I've read the books and are glad they are being honoured. Geralt just needs to get cat eyes and if the pommel of the silver sword can become V-shaped I'll die a happy man

This show is amazing. Thank you Netflix. Relationships between characters is like what I wanted to see on screen. Dialogs between Geralt and Dandelion and Yen, swordfights. First I was sceptical but I changed my mind after first seria.

It's part comedy, adventure move, horror movie and fantasy. I'm very happily surprised by how much I'm enjoying it. It's not trying to be a blockbuster, it's actually trying to focus on characters and story in the format of a tv-series and I find it highly successful at it. It's not competing with the books nor the games. It's holding it's own ground's and that's pretty rare. If you're a fan of good old adventure and fantasy movies this is probably your jam. Just don't expect it to be something it's not trying to be. Expand

The action is thrilling, the costumes are fabulous, the dialogue is high fantasy at it's best. So why isn't it *great*? Because it juggles a lot and asks a lot of the audience, and for the first half of the 8 episode season, is super confusing. Multiple timelines slowly becoming one, without telling the audience that's what is happening is a bold move, and it works eventually. It's worth the ride, and I'm ungodly excited for season 2. Also, it does a great job NOT being super sexist, thank the lord. All the sex and nudity is actually for a reason and not exploitative, it's set the bar high for future fantasy. ITS GOOD. Expand

Well, 1-3 series are very very good, 4-5 are quite normal. Starting from the 6th series, some kind of thrash begins, it is very crowded, the plot is compressed, some plot points are incomprehensible.
Pros:
The main actors play very well
Pleasant music
The plot, where there are no differences with the books is quite good
Great sword fighting
Cons:
Graphics, it is evident that there is not enough budget, there is little magic and all of it is merged. Dragons are poorly drawn. Well, the backs of some scenes are not very good
The complexity of the plot and the lack of dates, people unfamiliar with the universe will easily get confused
Unnecessary death of some characters
Poor disclosure of the characters of elves and dryads, and just missed branch Dol Blattana and the Blue Mountains, but this may be a problem of lack of funds, but nevertheless, these events are interesting and due to their absence, some character motivation is lost and logical gaps are created.

They needed to do another 2-4 series and then they could reveal some interesting points

Too confusing which timeline the current scene plays in. Also, for people that don't know the backstory, some actions of certain characters may seem confusing. But my biggest critique is the weird sceneries. The overall color and styles are too different in each scene and don't match action. Somehow it wants to be that cruel, horror series but instead is all colorful with oversaturated high fantasy elements.
In the end, the series is pretty close to the books and will only unfold itself fully in season 2 when the first roman begins but for now, it wasn't either really or good or really bad. Nonetheless, I'm a fan of the universe and hyped for the next season.

The first two episodes aroused dubious feelings. However, after me it was delayed and carried away. In my opinion, this is a good fairy tale, which I would love to watch at different ages. Yes, there are some flaws. But in general, very good. I give a rating of 10, because I don't agree with the opinion of critics and I want to somehow compensate for this. Sorry for my English. Expand

It has to be great to succeed. I do find the acting leaning to the weaker side, I also do not like when directors start to mess with the main lore and start to implement their own ideas, otherwise, the title should not be "The Witcher"! CGI can be quite cheap at times and the Slavic soul of the Witcher genre is hard to find. There is also be too much "Woke" stuff which destroys immersion. On a positive note, I do think it's an entertaining series, with a lot of nostalgic Witcher moments. It's definitely not a 0, neither is it a 10, I find it close to mediocre. 6-7 out of 10. I am looking forward to seeing what the future brings to The Witcher series. Expand

The acting is superb from the main cast, especially Henry Caville, who is able to play the subtle emotions of the emotionally surpressed superhuman mutant witcher that he represents on screen. Yennifer's acting is well done as well. The only issue with season 1 is the nature of the source material. Most of what goes on in season 1 is only mentioned in the first books in passing or is represented as a collection of disjointed short stories. As such, it was an extreme challenge to make it fit on the screen; yet they still made it work. If you pay attention, you can follow this series pretty well.

There are some insertions of forced diversity into this largely Polish and European setting, but it is done with class, unlike some movies lately such as the new starwars where all the diversity is given to the good guys while the bad guys are all "white males". The diversity hires are inserted equally and not given more power or authority than the expected polishfrench descended people. The CG is adequate, and "gets the point across", but don't expect something akin to game of thrones just yet.

Overall, an amazing experience.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This show is not for all, It's mosty for fan base of Witcher books and games, with twist of USA politics on casting. I did really enjoy that show, cause Am a big fan of books, even after some plots were skipped or just short to establish world. It's fantasy, so tons of stuff can go in. I just hate, when they don't know how does dragon look like. Actors really bring the world to real. It's a dark fantasy.

Good parts: Nice story, good character representation, you can feel chills when Witcher starts his sword work. It's really tries to be on point with books. You can feel the tension, and what character works.

Bad ones: Some silly stuff, like witcher should be OP in fight witch humans. Yen fight with bad guys as good as Geralt. You don't really know why Geralt and Jaskier is a thing i always felt like they we're opposites of themselves, to show character development of Geralt, who is old, cynical, and hard to handle. In here Jaskier is just ok and can sing.

Quanto as outras interpretações, nada chama muita atenção.

Full of action, drama and beautiful shots throughout. The total of 8 hours seems like a breeze and now the long wait for season 2 begins. The only negative is that they only have one season available currently.

No Spoiler.
I will make a list of things I really liked and what threw me off.

Good things:
Actors- All the actors did a fantastic job. The charachtets and the vibe they own is out of this world in both the games and the books, considering how hard and complicated it was, especially Geralt, they did good.

Sword fights- Very well done, also the witcher signs are cool. I would love to see more then the aard

Crudelty- The world of the witcher is cruel and full of blood and sadness, it's part of the magic. Glad they included that.

Story_ I like the story and the adaptation.

Negative things:
Geralt **** hair - I am sorry, but in some scenes the hair system Henry has to ware sucks and looks very very fake. True fans know how much important Geralts' hair are, that's why he is the white wolf. Not a small detail.

Special effects ( Monsters in particular)- Now, if you do a series about the witcher world, monsters are a big component. Not all special effects are bad, in fact, some of them, are really really good. But the monsters...sooo fake and badly done. I know they are heavy money to make, but again, it's the witcher: monsters must be scary, look scary and move in the correct way, if you really want to give the series the game and the book vibes.

Geralt's eyes- They are circular, and I am fine with that. But again, you can easly tell they are fake. They look fine in the dark, but extremely fake under the light. Costumes- Well, Nilfgard armour....you know already. But also, I don't like Geralt armour. Looks like a piece of plastic. Other are good

Geralt is too mad- Geralt is a very very very very complicated charcter. I understand it must not have been easy for Henry to do him, but he always looks mad which is not true in both games and books. Geralt knows when to look scary, but the majority of the time he is an observer, someone who prefers to stand aside and not take any position, also knowing to hide emotions. Henry looks mad 70% of the time as Geralt and bever never never shows his incredible, chill, outstanding side. That' what makes a great Geralt in my opinion, something the games have done perfectly.

I think the show made a solid first season and now that everything is set up... season two will be ready to explode out the gates! Excellent acting, scary monsters, and fight scenes that could make LOTR jealous. I loved the visuals and music, it really set the tone of the gritty world that most of the Witcher takes place in. This is one of those shows that takes you a few minutes to adjust to, much like any new show pushing boundaries like Firefly, Star Trek or any other great show out there! This show is incredible. I don't really care what the critics think. This is coming from a group of 5 of us that binged watched it together in one sitting, with only 2 out of the 5 being familiar with the Witcher games and lore.

Henry Cavill nailed it as Geralt and I thought that the rest of the cast did a fantastic job at portraying their characters. Anya Chalotra was especially great as Yennefer. The only gripes that I have with the casting is that I believe Mimi Ndiweni was miscast as Fringilla, solely based on the fact that she reminded Geralt so much of Yennefer in the books he accidentally refers to her as Yennefer during a sexual encounter. I also think that they should have given Anna Shaffer red or auburn hair to match her character as Triss, I think most people were pretty upset about the fact that these characters looked nothing like they were described in the book or video games.

Otherwise I thought that The Witcher series is an absolutely incredibly fantasy show that really does fans of the books and games justice.

And for everyone that is complaining about the timeline pacing, my fiance that doesn't have any experience whatsoever with the Witcher was easily able to immediately decipher that we had jumped back in time from the first moment of it, without me having to fill her in on anything.

Also, for everyone complaining that they can't follow the timeline pacing.. I feel that's absolutely ridiculous. My fiance was able to follow the narrative just fine and didn't have any issues with figuring out the timeline and she has no experience with any witcher lore and it was completely without me filling her in on anything.

Expand

--All truths rhyme. Thus far I'm enjoying the series. The casting and portrayal of Geralt of Rivia is almost spot on in terms of looks, costume and demeanor as that seen in the video game series "The Witcher" of the same name. Is the series a perfect adaptation of the books? No! of course not, what is? The video games? Certainly not the games either. What the Netlfix series does well, and similarly the video games by CD-projekt Red, is capture the essence, humor and charm of Geralt and his way of navigating himself in a world full of heinous, selfish people and their political schemes or conspiracies all while he is protecting the weak and vulnerable. There are a few laughs and dark humor here and there. The action is quite satisfying when there is the opportunity to see, Geralt's sword play. That first fight seen towards the end of the first episode, top that!!. To be fair, the books consist mostly of dialogue and drama between characters. The Netflix series stays true to this. As well as not straying so far away from the books or game lore that us fans cannot recognize particular characters.

The casting / acting is well done. Of course, Cavil as Geralt is the best. The evolving character Yennifer continues to surprise. More on it later...
