Es una adaptación genial, se apega a la obra literaria, si bien es cierto que uno que ya leyó los libros entiende mucho mejor la serie, aún así por sí sola es buenísima. Sin duda dará una buena experiencia!

I started being a fanboy to the Witcher with the games (as i think everyone do), and after a while I read the book series, and I am still love in it, it became my favourite book series. It is hard to adapt a collection of short-stories even if it in chronological order, but in the Witcher case, it wasn't, and this is the reason why they have to change plenty of thing, but they changed it in a very good and satisfying way. The actors and actresses were very good, especially Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra and Myanna Buring. This is a must see series everyone who likes even a bit the fantasy genre, i really looking forward to the next season. Expand

The Witcher is an adaptation of eight books and three video games, released by CD Project Red. I have not read the books, but I have played all three video games. I watched this with my wife, who has no experience with the universe.

I was worried about the adaptation for Netflix and in particular, Henry Cavill as Geralt of Riva. Geralt is an older character, and I was worried about how this would play out on the television. My worries were misplaced, as Henry portrays Geralt as close to the source materials that could be achieved in an adaptation from hundreds of hours of video games and books into television. It is clear that Henry is a fan of the source material and this shows through his entire performance, even down to the voice.

I didn’t buy into Anya Cholatra’s portray of Yennefer for most of the series but later on, it became more accurate to the source material; particularly in the final episode. Overall, Anya appears to be a very talented actress and I look forward to seeing her rise in prominence. I want to see her ‘own’ this character in the way Cavill has already taken ownership of Geralt.

Anna Shaffer as Triss Merigold is difficult to judge in this series, as she is very much a side character with little dialogue (mostly exposition outside of a single episode). Her wardrobe is out of place with the character we have grown to love in the video games; with the red hair that has become synonymous with Triss being absent. This is a character that will hopefully be developed in the future. The sorceresses are vain, and they use magic to heighten their physical appearance; they are cunning, long term strategists and committed to spreading their influence throughout the world. They use their positions at Court to gain influence and further their own goals. We need to see more of this.

Freya Allan as a young Ciri provided a competent portray, although again lacking substantial dialogue throughout the series. We know the character is special but the moving timeline in the episodes again made this character underexplored. This series is very much about Geralt and Yennefer and their rise in prominence and renown in the world. Joey Batey as Dandelion is the stand out character in the series and the closet to portray to the character from the subject materials. “Toss a coin to your Witcher” is the standout track from the series and fits the character perfectly. He portrays Dandelion with the cheek and playfulness that the subject material gives him. He provides the comedic relief in what is a bleak world and if Joey’s portray had been less sincere, it would have had a substantially detrimental impact on the series.

The world of The Witcher is captured accurately in this series; the grimy, dirty, middle ages atmosphere is abundant through the entire series. Several episodes were easy to get lost in, with the timeline moving backwards and forwards without clearly informing the viewer that this is happening. We had several “, but she died..” moments before realising what was going on. It was the main cinematography misstep in the series; I don’t see how the series would have been negatively impacted by portraying the series in its correct timeline.

The fight scenes are well-choreographed and provide enough gore and violence in short, sharp, points not to overindulge. The sex scenes will disappoint fans of the Witcher 2 but they are enough to move the storey forward; the relationship between Geralt and Yennefer builds as they begin to adore each other. The characters are mostly undeveloped and the finale of the season was left somewhat on a cliff hanger. This season needed a more in-depth initial examination of the characters at (perhaps) the loss of the storey to set the scene for new viewers, rather than leaning on fan service to bring in the converted. The converted were always going to be here for this after being starved of Witcher content since 2015’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. A longer season of say 12 episodes could have better developed these areas; we don’t even get a substantial explanation of what a Witcher is and how they are created! Overall we had a positive experience with this series, it hits most of the right notes but falls short of being a stand out season – it has all the hallmarks of an opening season with producers who are not entirely confident on how well it will be received. We are looking forward to the second season, which has already been greenlit. This is a solid 8/10 and worthy of a second season but this will need to do much more to bring in new audiences into this world and make this a long term Netflix hit that it has the potential to do. I hope they put caution aside and allow the writer to bring these characters to life in the second season.

Did writers at Netflix not bother to read the stories??? Could have given us new characters from Zerrikania and other places instead of this second hand ****

Other than being pissed, I'm DISAPPOINTED. Bad acting and directing. Weak as **** writing. Seen better costumes in Cosplay pics. How's that happen? CGI looks like crap, too.

I see many 10s for this show and can't imagine how anyone thinks this show is great. Guess FOOLS accept anything. Guess they don't realize they weaken the Witcher legacy and support an ass-backwards kind of racism by rewarding this garbage.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This was a brilliant first Step in the Witcher Universe. Episode 1 hit a brutally good opening. After that the quality slightly did go down, but all in all it was a very good first Season.

The Characters are phänomenal, Henry Cavill is just the right Geralt also Anya Chalotra as Yennefer was spot on. Lot of the side characters are well written and good picked.

The Scenery, atmosphere and also the CGI moments are very good for this first step. It was a high production value.

So was there something "bad"? Yeah there were a litte bit of confusing writing and storytelling, which lead to moments where it was very hard to follow at all. Also some Characters like Triss Merigold were kinda underrepresented. Lastly a few, really only a few, CGI moments werent that good.

All in all highly recommended for Fans and for New people to the franchise.

While reading this review, understand that I have not read the books or played the video-games so I came into it as close to not knowing anything about the world of the Witcher as one could but now I am completely hooked. Season 1 starts of rather "meh" with Episode 1 (it was okay but didn't blow me away) but each episode after just kept getting better and better where by the end of season 1 I didn't want to stop watching. So what's good? Well, firstly, Henry Cavill is a complete badass and a brilliant Geralt (again coming from someone who hasn't read the books or explored the games). I started off worrying that he would be a monotone character with little depth who just broods all the time and does his best attempt at a Batman voice impression but over 8 episodes you really see the character of Geralt grow and evolve. Cavill really knocks it out of the park; with his acting and the help of great makeup and costume team, he really transforms into Geralt and not just superman with a white wig on. So bravo!

Apart from Cavill, The Witcher has also has a wealth of great supporting cast and characters which all add their own interesting storylines and quirks to show. Without going into detail, the character of Yennifer has one of the most interesting storylines and journeys of the whole show. The Bard character also adds some really great comic relief and humor. What's also a strength of The Witcher's cast of character is is they feel real and gritty and filled with flaws. The writers do a great job of balancing those strengths and flaws.

What did feel like a bit of a challenge sometime was the 3 main storylines did sometimes get a little muddy/hard to follow especially when the show doesn't make the "timelines" very clear upfront (which may not be an issue for people familiar with these characters). To add to the challenge they also add in quite a number of new names and faces at the audience which was also a little difficult to keep track of. However, sticking with it definitely pays off and as various storylines come together it becomes clearer and clearer (also Googling helps).

Finally, one of the strongest things about the Witcher is the world that is created on screen. If you're a fan of fantasy then you'll no doubt love this show. There are a ton of very cool magic spells, fantastical creatures and host of classical fantasy tropes/must haves: taverns, quests, epic monster fight sequences, wenches, battling armies and the list goes on.

Overall, if you are fantasy fan then give The Witcher a shot. It's not a perfect show but it's a lot of fun and it seems to only get better.

All involved should be proud of their work on this project. Admittedly, without having read the books or played the games I can understand that it might be challenging to keep up with the flashbacks and flashforwards in the timeline. Some captioning might have helped alleviate this. All three of the leads played their parts perfectly. I was initially skeptical of the casting of HC for the role of Geralt, but seeing his passion about the project and the work that he putinto the role I'm glad that my initial skepticism was 100% wrong. AC also excelled in the role of Yennefer. Again, I was concerned about this casting choice as AC had few past credits on which to assess how she would care in this role. I was so impressed with her portrayal of Yennefer which is to me, embodied the complex character from the novels. Ditto with FA in her role as Ciri. In terms of the story and flow, aside from the sometimes confusing jumps in the timeline, LH and her writers did such a wonderful job piecing together the source material. I'm not sure if some of these professional critics understand the daunting challenge that LH and her team faced in adapting the source material which, TBH, is more than a little disjointed to start with. I waited a long time and hard, not a bit upset, I'm even thrilled. What about sofa critics who put low marks, have you even watched at least half of the season? Judging by the trailer and season 1 and the "wig" that everyone loved so much does not make any sense whatsoever. People try, make content so that you "don’t sit on the priest exactly with a candle on the table." For starters, try to create something yourself and give it to the public. Cavill delivers pitch-perfect expletives :)

Great adaptation - good choice to run Ciri and Yen's backstories in parallel from the start, as they not only set up those characters but also key elements of the setting. I loved the jumping between time periods which felt very consistent with the patchwork-vignette structure of Sapkowski's books, and a fresh way of interleaving backstory with "the present". Cast are excellent.

Criticisms: lots of nudity which wasn't entirely necessary (though it does speak to Yen's character), and a few lines that were too contemporary (eg. "off-grid"). Even the weaker episodes are still fun though. I was already a fan of the games and books but this show has made my uninitiated wife a fan of the Witcher.

Also want to take a moment to laugh at all the racists moaning about PoC in the cast. You're fine with a Continent full of interdimensional monsters, but not people with different skin tones because you think everyone in this world should be Polish? Geralt will bathe in your tears :)

It was an hour long. It certainly held my attention. My wife left before the end because she hates the violence, which was considerable. I hope we will have to endure less bloodshed as the series goes on. Not that it's unrealistic, and the special effects are admirable, nor does it pander to the bloodless violence tropes of Hollywood. Perhaps there'd be less actual violence if people had a better idea what it looks like. There was some nudity and one rather chaste love scene. Compared to GoT, violence was more thematic than carnality. There was a bit more wizardry than I recall from the games, though Geralt was rather sparing in that regard.

Henry Cavill nailed Geralt, and the culminating swordplay was brilliantly executed. Roach seemed perfect for his part as well. Freya Allen as Cirilla (aka Ciri) gave us some interesting moments. The major characters looked good in their parts. Many of the minor characters had confusing accents. I felt the writing represented Geralt as I remember him, struggling to be a just and impartial actor in an unjust world that bids furiously for his allegiance. It was interesting to experience the invasion of the North by Nilfgard and to learn how Geralt became known as "The Butcher of Blaviken". I had little knowledge of Renfri and her tribe before this episode brought her alive. The same with Ciri's family.

Online reviews of the series have been mixed at best. In some ways, perhaps it follows too closely on the heels of GoT, while being even more weird and revolting. I plan to continue watching at weekly intervals. I don't think fans of the main character will be too disappointed.

Excerpts from other reviews:

"Over at Rotten Tomatoes, Netflix's The Witcher has a "rotten" (but barely) score of 58% from critics with an enthusiastic 91% audience score. As we showed in our roundup of The Witcher reviews, most critics found something positive to say amidst constructive criticism." -CinemaBlend

"I’m definitely not averse to the wild extremes of this genre — shout-out to the visceral blood terrors of Adult Swim’s Primal — but the first episode felt like cheese gone moldy. That nude bordello really edged the whole vibe in a fratty direction, and the long running time required a lot of take-forever talk about prophecies and destiny. Did you watch further into the season?" -Entertainment Weekly

Episode 2 did not disappoint. Anya Chalotra is BRILLIANT as Yennefer! I never fully understood her witchy personality before. Also I thought they did a splendid job of painting the elves in a sympathetic light. Joey Batey plays Jaskier the Bard, better know as Dandelion, and apparently sang his own songs as well. I found his personality highly annoying, but he has a sweet, well-controlled tenor; he's also quite the skilled lutanist. This episode helped my understanding of the Conjunction of the Spheres and its implications for elven-kind. There's a heavy dose of 'feel for the underdog' here. I hope we meet a few sympathetic human characters before the end.

In episode three I noted a relentless emphasis on the horrific aspects of Sapkowski's stories. I think this material will be too strong for the taste of most adults.

Episode 4 lacks subtlety.

When Iheard that Superman was playing Geralt, I was prepared for disappointment. It wasn't until I saw the 2nd trailer that I became interested. I am a fan of the games and have not heard much about the books, so I am coming from that perspective. I have to say that this show won me over and did so rather quickly. My initial thoughts on the casting was that it really took me by surprise. I thought the choices made were a bit odd, however, each character ends up feeling believable. Now, I really appreciate the unassuming casting that the show has. No one stands out as the expected perfect fit, which makes the characters feel fresh and appropriate in what feels like a well built chaotic world. If everything were perfect, this show, like everything else on film today, would feel formulaic. Instead I find myself pleasantly surprised by finally not knowing what to expect from Hollywood. The key beats in the story are there and names and places all feel familiar, but nothing feels "typical". This isnt a perfect show, but it does a great job of pacing each character's story through the season so that you understand the motivations, relationships and political situations in the world. the sword play is fantastic and it has a great balance of episodic one off episodes with a steady moving larger story line. something that most TV shows fail miserably at. Superman plays Geralt in a way where he starts to feel like the obvious pick for the role. Both Yennifer and Geralt's characters are complex and understandably jaded. The show is a good blend of action, romance, hope, humor and world building. my main complaint is that its only 8 episodes. a great 1st season that sets the series up for a bright future. Expand
