So I don't really know what you wanted here.
It's optically good and the consequences are all not bad.
But why do the supporting roles get so little screen time? The supporting character from the first episode is very interesting but is eaten up in 20 minutes. Really great job.
The three main characters are too much in focus.
Therefore, this series is also only mediocre.

Чот все подахуели мальца с нытьем. Это прекрасно. И смешно, и всерьез, и со своим лицом. Дико интересно, все понятно, все отлично сыграно, дайверсити в кои то веки без нареканий вписано. Праздник же для жанра.

Well, it is not perfect, and some casting could have be done better, but it is a solid and well made show. Henry Cavil is done a great job IMO, with bringing some vibes from the witcher games. The flaws of the first episode:
    1. The fight with kikimora was in the middle of nowhere. Instead of the usual swamp area, they decided to use some vomit graphics from the late 90s.
    2. The role of Renfrey completely failed. Instead of a person with a difficult fate and nature, we’ve got an offended “next door girl”. 3. The Witcher’s atmosphere has been **** up. We’ve like it in video

    3. The Witcher’s atmosphere has been **** up. We’ve like it in video games. But we haven't seen any of it on the screen. Btw, blacks in the world of slavic fantasy look as foolish as penguins in the midle of savannah.
    5. Designer responsible for the nilf armor should be kicked out of the profession. And Lauren Schmidt should take less vine and pay more attention to organization of the filming process.
    6. Battle scene - main nominee for the award "Shame of the year".
    7. Soundtracks of the series in quality lose to tracks from free libraries.

This was well worth the wait. Season one was excellent. Congratulations to everyone involved. I must admit though watching through it the first time was similar to playing through the Witcher 3 game the first time. It's better the second time around.

First of all I have to mention that I am quite the Witcher fan myself. I have read all the books and played all the games several times. As it was evident that Netflix is really putting effort into this and Sapkowski himself was part of the team so I had quite the high hopes. But still it was able to positively surprise me. Even more so now that I have watched the whole season 1 twice.

The series follows books pretty closely. There are a lot of added info on Yennefers back story during the early episodes which I found to be very good to flesh her out as a character. In the end she is one of the 3 main characters in the books and in them she kind of just comes out of nowhere and her backstory is only mentioned as a side note. I think that was something her character actually lacked in the books considering how important one she is. Anya Chalotra also does fantastic job as her. I found her performance excellent especially in the later episodes.

After that additional story part the series follows the books very closely. Some things do seem to be left a bit vague compared to books which I would attribute to the limitations of the medium compared to books. So many things have to be left unsaid to fit a book into a video format. The most important themes are there though and it is made clear that it is not just the story of Geralt, but his family; himself, Yennefer and Ciri. That might be why some people who only have played the games have seem so critical of the series. In the books and as a result in the series Geralt is A point of view character, not THE point of view character. That is totally the opposite in games so the storytelling is very different.

I was wondering before the show came out how are they going to implement the short stories from the books and be able to tell a coherent story. They do have to do a lot of timejumping which might be hard to follow sometimes for people not familiar with the books. Especially since they added the early story of Ciri already to the series 1. I am happy to say though that they do manage to do it pretty well. They have a lot of little overlapping scenes to show what part of the timeframe it is and which scene is related to what and it is often easy to see things happen in the past because certain people are still alive. And it all comes together pretty nicely in the end and everyone end in the same moment so it is easy for them to start series 2 and the Ciri epic for good. The timing will be much easier in the following seasons.

All in all I was very happy with how the series turned out. The team does show clear care and respect towards the original stories of mr. Sapkowski and they did a very worthy adaptation.

P.S. Some people seem to have issues with the races of some of the cast. There are black people in the world of the Witcher from the beginning, namely the Zerrikanians. Zerrikanians who are right next to the Empire of Nilfgaard and whose mercenaries Nilfgaard is known to use en masse. So how there would not be any black or mixed race people in the Empire? That would just not make any sense. The Zerrikanian units are in the Nilfgaard deck in gwent for god sake.

EDIT: Bumped up my user score to 10 because all of the crybabies giving it a 0 because they watched one episode and there was a black man in it. Such a horror! My honest score would be an 8.

Miscasts, black elfs and other stuff aside. the show seems incredibly cheap. The very first fight with the monster we see, said monster looks like it came straight from the 90s era television and the fight itself is rather anticlimatic.
I could tell more, like how some characters are total opposites of books, how the writers keep missing key points in things people say, think or represent. Like, I can clearly see the attempt to make a nod towards the source material, but it just comes out wrong and completely misses the point.
Maybe some people unfamiliar with the Witcher franchise will like it. But i don't think it's a work for those who are already fans.
Like honestly, i wouldn't mind miscast, tolerancy which people are complaining about and all of that, if it atleast was interesting to watch AND stayed closer to the books plot.

Banquet hall in aretus with loft-style walls of broken brick and tables with crackers at the reception of all the kings of the north is also ok? And the fact that Gerart’s embarrassment simply dragged the castle all night, while she was gutting the rest in a split second, did she fall in love in any other way? And the mine in Temeria where they walked along the floor with a vacuum cleaner - otherwise it is difficult to explain that cleanliness. Black Elf. Nilphs who run scattered on heavy cavalry, and that in turn is waiting until they get closer to a distance of 20 meters are also normal? Yenifer, who fell into a couple of minutes to wait until they brought her sleeping pills and suffered infernal torment - is this justified right? The Volttest, which looks like a greasy unwashed drunk (he was even better in the Polish series) was normal too? Dryads with crossbows, and an intrusive incomprehensible glow in the forest. The dragon looks cartoonish. They killed Myshovur, who lives and lives in the book - why was this done? The battle at Sodden is generally some kind of shame - where is the epic, a hundred nilfgaards - is this the great battle at Sodden?

P.S. I will add that Geralt, Buttercup and Cyri turned out to be very good. The color palette and the music are very good. The battle scenes look impressive and delight the general plans of nature and Cintra. I hope in the second season there will be more budget and more logic in the script.

Yes, she is a capable actress and i'm against whitewash casting but original Yennefer in the novels is quite different than Chalotra's Yennefer. She is described as a very pale figure and she is a difficult person, she can intimidate anyone easily if she desires to. But in the series she is quite a brunette and not intimidating as we imagined to be. Anna Shaffer's Triss is also an unexpected choice but she is a side character in the novels so no big deal. But Yennefer is a main character in novels so it matters more.

As a Witcher fan i watched all season in 12 hours or so but following the storyline can a little bit difficult because of Sapkowski's novels have a messy timeline. They made everything they can in series to give it a little bit order whatsoever.

    It's a good fantasy-action series.

Quite good adaptation. I'm polish and I read Wither series long before even the first game. It's as much about hatred, xenophobia and racism as much it's about sword, monsters and magic. Even more. So people loosing it over casting of some black or latino actors are laughable. And don't say it "Eastern European fantasy" because it is not. Itt not happening in Poland. If you haven't read the books it might be hard to follow. It was a lot of fun to watch these characters come to life and develop as the season went on. I thought it got choppy at times since the first two books are short stories and the show seemed to skip around a bit, but they did a good job in piecing it together.

Pretty good series about The Witcher`s Universe.
Too underrated, but it has a lot of disadvantages:
    - Strange casting (black elves and Vigo, Triss-romal)
    - Too much unspoken and too much unnecessary
    - Nilfgaardian armor

But, in summary, The Witcher is fine and **** for fans and geeks.

Horrible parasitism on books. Some canonical stories are just for show. The Queen wishes everyone beer and terribly ridicule the ambassadors. Humor gave way to a huge amount of pathos. Yen Mary Sue, Ciri Imba, for which you do not worry... There are many logical inconsistencies even for the original work.

The obviously racist race-switching of many characters for no reason other than serving the insane SJWs in charge did not quite ruin this well-acted show.

With beautifully choreographed fight scenes and great performances, this TV show has the potential to be great in the future. As it stands now, it is good, although it does have some notable flaws. The first few episodes were not that engaging, since they felt sort of unfocused and uninteresting. Some of the sets and character designs look kind of cheap, especially early on during the show. However, the last episodes of the season are incredibly well done, having some outstanding scenes with breathtaking visuals. The CGI in general is a mixed bag though, where sometimes it looks stunning, whilst other times it can look rather fake. The scenery looks overly bright in some scenes and it gets a bit annoying after a while, but that's only present whenever there's a lot of sunlight. However, the visuals still manage to deliver spectacles and marvels. The other thing that I am not really impressed by is some of the casting of the main characters, but it isn't much of an issue now after watching the performances. Henry Cavill plays Geralt perfectly and it is apparent that he's very passionate about the role and the project, being a Witcher fan himself. Yennefer, even though at first she seemed miscasted, Anya Chalotra actually has turned out to be a decent choice for the character. Freya Allen as Ciri is amazing as well and delivers an emotional performance. And, most of the other characters are wonderfully played by their respective actors and actresses.
Overall, The Witcher looks promising, and if it keeps getting better like the episodes of this season progressively did, then it might even rival Game of Thrones in some aspects.

With this production team this show was destined to become disappointment. Script writer completely misunderstood the point of what first two books all are about and butchered source material. Those books are not telling about escaping Ciri for eight episodes. They are not about to show how strong and independent women is Yennefer. Those stories are about Geralt on the path and through his journeys build a world, characters and their relationship. Don't get me wrong i'm not against changing original stories or creating new ones to better fit cinematographic narration of the whole show. But what we got here is mostly chaotic non-canon bu****it that provides mostly suffering to fans of the franchise.

As fan of books - avoid this show.

Horrible writing, bad acting, cheap CGI and costume design, music... composer tried to capture(copy) that feel from the games and failed miserably. Without a doubt, my favorite chapter was the first one, it's great.

The music is perfect. The battle scenes are brutal. The special effects ... comply.

It seems to me a good adaptation, although they have modified elements and the order of events.

It is possible that many people get lost because of the unusual way of telling the story (temporary leaps into the past, and into the future). There may even be spectators who get bored ...

I want to mention also the great work of dubbing in Spanish (Spain). I liked it a lot.

Although I know that not everyone will like it, I recommend it.

This show is worth watching. It is overall enjoyable but there are a lot of problems that are made as a choise by creators. There are few battle scenes, but when they are on screen it is great fun. Henry is really good with a sword and i loved watching him fight every single time, especially in the first episode or the monster in ep3. Main trio of the cast is good, they have problems again but compared to rest of the cast it is far less glaring.

Now the thing that glare most obviously is the blafication of eastern europe setting. We have black elves, black dryads(makes no sense deep in the forest) or intentional change of characters with lighter skin into darker ones like Redhead Triss is not a redhead or Fringilla straight up being african black. It is so obvious that it kills suspension of disbelief everytime you see one of these things. These characters are not black in either books or the games.

Nilfgaardians are not done well one bit. They are evil for the sake of being evil. Every dialogue scene with them is tropy, they are behaving as if Emperor is a prophet but there is actually no philosophical discussion or even single line of dialogue that actually explains what they believe in. It simply is as it is because creators needed unwavering loyalty in Nilfgaardians. They are in the category of "Stupid Evil". Sacrificing invaluable resources for momentary gains. Last episode is a good show of this. And dont get me started on the ballsack armor ugh..

The show also has tempo problems. I understand they need to do a proper exposition to main characters, but the current day events about Ciri is strecthed out the whole season which completely diminishes the impact it'd have had on us if they just condensed it into one or two episodes. Show constanly goes between past and the present as a way of exposition and it creates problems. I could keep up because i know the books but would make no sense to people who are learning about them the first time.

Great deal of characters are not portrayed properly. Especially the last episode involves an event if done well would've been crown jewel of television. However they needed a far bigger budget to pull it off, and we could tell from directing and the decisions it was lacking. Thats why the characters in the episode are far weaker than their book or game counterparts except Yennefer which makes no sense. Especially when you see how that one particular character fights, compared to whom she was far weaker in the books. Basically they are very liberal about book material despite what creators claim.

Still overall it is not a bad show. Dialogue is generally good, action scenes are done well and directing is decent. I even liked Jaskier(dandelion in games) which may be the best of the cast in terms of how well he fits. Songs should have more Polish/folk vibe however, as it is still too western. Overall if you just want to watch a decent fantasy show, the witcher will do the job. It is good enough.
