I'm a great fan of The Witcher books and games and I realy liked the first season. But, in my opinion, the history of Geralt (about the Witchers) could be more explored. For the fans of the world of The Witcher, the first season was very clear, but for whom whose never had heard about the history, I believe it was very confusing.
My suggestion is to add, on the next season, more scenes

My suggestion is to add, on the next season, more scenes showing Geralt getting prepared to fight monsters (one example is the scene of Geralt fighting with Striga on the CG animation).
I think it would be interesting to show the Witcher side of Geralt and what he can do with his powers, knowledge of potions and tracking monsters.

    10/10.

One of the best tv shows of 2019.

Despite the skepticism the show surpassed all expectations.

Script, casting, acting, soundtrack, visuals and atmosphere - OMG, it's great!

Registered here just to say that this show deserves far more better score than it has.

Give it max score and all my support.

    Thank you to creators!

    Can't wait for Season 2.

A really decent series. Very hard to follow at first but makes more sense the longer you watch and the better it gets. Can't wait till next season. I would think next season will be more straight forward and even better potentially.

High fantasy TV show that is faithful to the books. It does seem to "toss you into the deep end" as far as the world goes so people unfamiliar with the world may get lost on first viewing as the world is extremely fleshed out. It's well acted and the fight scenes are better than GOT

By woefully attempting a story made up from three fractured timelines to very little effect they have produced a final product that will undoubtably confuse any newcomers with its shambolic delivery of the story, whilst also it should enrage existing fans with its disrespectful shortcomings in terms of adapting the narrative and worldbuilding. The only positives are a small selection of performances and brief moments of fight choreography, but it's hard to see the silver lining in this tempest cloud. Expand

what an atrocity, they bastardized such a great series, how much did they offer to the author to let this kind of **** slide, the guy has no pride in his work to just let ****flix destroy it. the only saving grace is Cavill, and even then he alone can not save this steaming pile. 0/0.

Yes, you can tell he played the games, but i would question he read the books, because he tries to portray the game Geralt with his stoic badassery, but gives no attempt to show off Geralt´s wit and intelligence, which is understandable because like I said, the dialogues are pure garbage. I dont think the writers have the capacity to come up with witty or intelligent lines to begin with, so I dont blame only Cavill for that. However Geralt has never been a character defined primarily by his excellent swordsmanship or his stoic demeanor as the games or the show would have you believe. The show is filled with out of place diversity, men bashing, all the queens and authorities are black or female, its progressive garbage of first order. The audio and visuals are nice for a tv production, netflix has the money if not the talent. Fight scenes are probably the only thing I actually enjoyed. You can tell lot of time and thought have been given to the choreography, but thats where the positives start and end. The show has no regards for the slavic roots of the material and the lore is never implemented in any but the most basic and surface level way. This isnt the witcher, its progressive americanised generic fantasy for politically correct audience that took the names and tropes from the witcher and left the balls out. Expand

It’s not even the actual political agenda that annoys me the most, it’s how immersion breaking some of the changes or book interpretations are. Off the top of my head, one of the most powerful characters in the books is reduced to some weakling who can do a cool party trick, but ultimately goes tumbling down a hill and gets knocked unconscious. Oh, and for that role, they casted an average height, indian guy - although, he’s specifically described as «a fair skinned, particularly tall and handsome guy» in the books. Why? The books are based on Slavic and Northern European mythology, not some modern day, racial inclusion nonsense! Henry Cavill’s interpretation of Geralt is, in my opinion, as close to perfect as you can expect, and there are other, very good acting performances by the other characters in this first season of the show - but despite it’s fairly high entertainment value, I personally think it’s flaws and odd decisions on the part of the creator, prevents this TV series from being so much more. Thanks to this way of storytelling show is more dynamic and gives you an opportunity to get more attached to each character before their paths cross but may give you a hard time to comprehend what is really happening.
Show lacks a lot of Sapkowski's sense of humor but fighting sequences make up for it in my opinion. I was sceptic about the music at firs, especially Jaskier's ballads, but I have to admit it, its growing on me over time.

For fans of literary excellence, i haven't read the books, but congrats on taking a chance on a literary work that has been so long in the making, reaching casual viewers, and any amount of an often times volatile gaming community.

The characters are good. Likes, dislikes, stengths, weaknesses, believable. My first qualification, aside from all that, the concepts attempted to be portrayed. Deep concepts such as, religion, apathy, popular belief, and survival. To a lesser extent, human empathy, very represented, but more veiled than any. Any empathy displayed is coming from the one you'd least expect it, and isn't explicitly verbally acknowledged, but shown over and over with little to no applause within narrative. That leads me to the main appeal of the Witcher universe, in my opinion, or at least, what i think most people got wrong about it, and the rest is up to you, and that is...

Heroes don't look like heroes, weaponizing religion has consequences, and destiny, is hard, and doesn't make sense, for those going through it. Powers beyond us are being used to manipulate nations, and the populace. Not really controversial in saying so.

The story is those in the middle, the heroes, victims, bards, and mages, forming it all into a history that is worth retelling.

His mannerisms and motives are spot on. Yennifer is as cunning as ever and her expanded character creation was a very good add. Jaskier is just like I recall from the books. Ciri seemed truly scared and afraid of Cahir while she was on the run. I am interested to see how they portray a more confident bandit Ciri in the coming seasons after her training. The acting all around were superb. Netflix has even raised the countenance on dopplers. They seem to have much more meaningful or scariness to them then in the books. The locations and settings were diverse and believable. Artuza is just as I pictured from the books. I also saw no plastic water bottles on screen:) Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As someone who never read the books, and only played the games, my opinion is that the show is "good". Not fantastic, but definitely enjoyable.

I think the production values are very high, the direction was competent, but that the writing was a little on the weak side, specifically in certain episodes (like episode 4). If they're looking to compete with the likes of Game of Thrones, they need to find better writers. I especially didn't like how inconsequential Ciri's plotline was. Her entire season can be summed up as "Escaped Nilfgaardians -> Found Geralt". Didn't help that the final episode was basically Yennifer's show, so the meeting of Geralt and Ciri at the end had less impact than it should have.

I'm also not really a fan of them going for this triad of lead characters. IMO they should have focused on Geralt. But if anything Yennifer had more of a fleshed out story. And considering her character isn't really that likeable for a good 2/3 of the season, that was a problem. Perhaps she'll be better after Sodden.

As for the acting, I think it was really good. Ciri, Triss and Yennifer met my expectations. And I liked Cavill's interpretation of Geralt, even though it doesn't exactly match my idea of him.

Overall I think season 1 was a success and I look forward to season 2, especially if they can find some better writers.

The trailers looked cheap and I can't think of the last time I saw a good netflix produced show. All the woke culture aside, this show fails at the basics. There is maybe only one good human vs human fight scene in the whole show. Any fight scene with a monster is poorly executed and lazy. The writing jumps all over the place with way too much time spent revisiting the fall of Cintra. The depiction of magic ranges from ok to terrible. I can overlook many problems but they eventually become too numerous to enjoy the show. If you read the books I can imagine this series becomes unwatchable. The only way you might get a watchable Witcher series is if it got Lord of the Rings money behind it. Unfortunately I think Hollywood would still find a way to mess it all up. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It could be so good but the stories are rushed, some of the best part have been cut or changed to be worse.
The sorceresses have been misused as not one of them exudes the confidence and class ascribed to their respective characters in the books. They act more like 19 year olds in their first convincing cosplay than 100 year old mages and Yen bothers me the most. The facial expressions she makes and the manner in which she delivers insults feels bitter and immature, not powerful, confident, and snobbish. This could just be bad writing but one way or another it needs fixed. This is after her transformation, the acting before is good. Some other parts from Yens story will either leave gaping holes in the plot or require extensive revision of it.
Some characters have been done well though, Geralt and Jaskir are great, Ciri is good as well though there is room for improvement in all 3.
For the smaller fights the choreography is great but the larger battles are not good and in Sodden Hill's case really is a massive let down compared to what it should be.
The ending along with the stories have been changed in ways that have lost a lot of the emotional impact that the books had.
The writing needs a lot of work, sometimes its good and sometimes its bad, sometimes i felt like the writers didn't know what they were making and a few times you can tell what was from the books and what was made up by the writers as it became a lot watered down.
With Nilfgaard and Fringilla there are a lot of changes and i dont think anyone of them is for the best. There are more points but this is quite long now so overall whilst enjoyable for some parts there are a lot of things that need changing and made better. 5/10

I reshooted the games twice each, and re-read the book ten more times. I can quote any passage or quotation from a book from memory. And I am normal about adaptations - I am a fan of the game of thrones and calmly relate to the last season, which also has huge problems with the script.
But the witcher of netflix is an absolute disrespect for the original source and its fans. The authors of the series and some fans do not understand him at all. You do not understand the meaning, mythology and generally this culture. All that you can do is to make a horror story with religious fanatics and the struggle between good and evil from the analogy of Roman empire - Nilfgaard, cut off the deepest meaning of the original short stories of the first two books and shove the inarticulate story about the formation of a strong woman. You made this fast food like Marvel and other garbage like the Black Panther. Well, do it further with your culture. Do not climb and do not litter in our culture - if you do not understand it.

I truly loved it, really i did. I would give it a 10/10 if triss wasnt 50 years old and brunette. But that's a minor problem. And how could they leave out gwent!

I was planning on taking my time and watching an episode every few days, then I watched the 1st episode and I finished the whole season in 3 days. I haven't been this locked into a new series since GoT season 1. Henry Cavill is the perfect Witcher and the way they use timelines to tell all the back story and then it all come to a point in the final episode was perfect. TOSS A COIN TO YOUR WITCHER.

The series is actually much more canonical than the game. The images of Triss and Yennifer are more authentic in the series than in games. People were greatly imbued with sympathy for the images of their favorite characters from the game and now reject everything that does not correspond to them. People were greatly imbued with sympathy for the images of their favorite characters from the game and now reject everything that does not correspond to them. I gave a chance to the series and it did not disappoint me. Over time, I was imbued with sympathy for the characters in the series and no longer experienced discomfort. People who find fault with such things and various trifles seem to me biased and too conservative. Sometimes, it seems to me that they are trying to amuse their pride in this way, thereby showing that they read books compared to some. I am sincerely sorry for such people, because they are fixated on trifles and are unable to enjoy a good series. Watching the series, I did not feel discomfort about the races. The image of Kalante and Yennifer are quite feminist in the series and, in principle, this corresponds to their characteristics in the books. Ciri in the book was either lesbian or bi. The series is not one of those that you can run in the background and do household chores. You must be very careful not to miss important details. The plot is messy, but this is not a script problem. It is rather a problem of the source. The first season of the series is based on the first two books of Sapkowski, which were not novels, but cycles of stories and are chaotic in themselves. As for me, the creators of the series managed to streamline the Geralt storyline better than it was in the stories. This film adaptation has surpassed its literary source. The creators managed to do this with the help of their freedom in the plot. With all due respect to Sapkovsky, he was not a drama guru, and most people found out about his books thanks to the witcher’s game series, which continued the plot from the books. Almost all the creators' liberties in the plot added drama and were created in order to better adapt the plot to the cinema. Moreover, all ideas and meanings have been preserved. In the series, the internal conflicts of the characters are much better developed. The characters look more multifaceted than in the cycles of Sapkovsky's stories. The picture and dialogs are good, but not perfect. The creators have something to work on. Of the advantages I want to especially highlight the musical accompaniment in the series, added humor and fighting scenes. The series has great potential. (Sorry for my English) Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

I would have probably could have agreed with the current average score of 7.5, but the final episode pulled together a lot of the story, and made the journey more interesting to me in the end. Some CG could have been a bit better, and some scenes made me cringe a bit, but I thought the season did a good job of setting up the characters, and introducing viewers to the world. I can't understand some of the bad reviews complaining about diversity. This is a show made for a worldwide audience in the 2020's, based on a book made in the 1990's. It should not be shocking to anyone that the show needed more diversity than the books, or video games. None of the casting took away from the show, or the lore in my opinion. It will only make the show better, and more interesting.

The show was awesome the magic was battle and other fight scenes were great. The story the first 3 to 4 episodes were strange due to the majority of the episodes were actually flashbacks but this was not said making the story come off strange. After episode 4 it finds its footing and you can understand what is happening with the 2 stories being told. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Serie dell'anno imho!!!! Expand

As a mindless fantasy rollercoaster, Geralt’s journey is five stars all the way to tea-time. Sadly, for those who like brains with their brawn, it may be more of a slog.

It takes a while for viewers to learn how these characters are connected, via an exasperating Westworld-esque narrative knot that takes much of the season to unfurl. ... The Witcher heightens our confusion by fumbling details that would have helped it set a cohesive tone. Dialogue vacillates, from line to line, between theatrical fantasy-speak and modern colloquialisms (“Dragons are, in fact, a thing!”).
