Well, there is a lot of star wars in it somehow. But with it super simple one-way story line and its Teletubby like characters it seems to be made for children more than for grown-ups. The "great mandalorian" trying to awake his fate by riding on a ridiculous comic something with dramatic music underlying the scene is ridiculous at its best. Also the mandalorian seems to be a determined super-hero which on the one hand makes his great struggle to ride on a whatever made for TV shows for 4 years old unfitting and on the other hand makes for a less interesting main character than in most other star wars movies. The surprising end of the identity of the bounty-huntED (to not spoil anything here) makes up for a lot of episode 1s slack. Remains to be seen how the story evolves and if it falls into trap every single series recently does fall into: super-heroic and therefore super-boring and unindentifiable main characters, fast build-ups with no background or depths, clicheed characters and fights instead of interesting subjects or depth of story. Hopefully it gets better. Expand

This show's premiere was amazing.

Story has me hooked so far and the role of Mandalorian culture is really refreshing change in Star Wars stories. Acting is all around amazing, being it the protagonist being Mandalorian or troopers being troopers but with soul. Atmosphere is spaghetti western like, which is perfect for telling Star Wars Bounty Hunter stories. I thought I would miss Boba Fett, but so far the show's protagonist has been amazing. Good amount of laughs and "wow's" during the first episode. 10/10

If you are like me, you were greatly disappointed by just about every release in this franchise since the Return of the Jedi. Jon Favreau does an amazing job at capturing the same feel and integrity that made this franchise what it is today. The practical effects are amazing. He understands that we appreciate this far beyond what CGI has to offer even in 2019. As far as writing goes, the characters have actual interesting depth to them unlike the mundane and bland examples found in the recent movies. You actually end up caring about what happens in this series, or at least I did. The music is also fantastic and truly compliments the visuals. This show gives the impression that it cares much more about story rather than cheap fast action scenes and feel good moments like in the recent movies.

I highly recommend this to anyone who has given up on this franchise but was a fan of the older films. I am very impressed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Finally something really well done by Disney. I kind of lost hope with their Star Wars making capabilities but man did they do a great first episode. You finally got to se a bounty droid which you have only seen in the animated Star Wars series. And the main character is such a badass. Just what Star Wars needs(because they literary killed of all the fools characters....only chewie) good job and keep upp the good work and don’t fail me with rise of skywalker Expand

Disney finally get Star Wars right. This has a much closer vibe to the OT than the popcorn trash they've hashed out in the last few movies. Maybe it was one big conspiracy all along to promote their new streaming service? oO

My summary in short from the first episode: Disney raises TV Series to a new Level.
I have rarely seen an episode so grasping like the first episode of The Mandalorian. Technically, it was top notch, the CGI, monsters etc. look like in the cinema. The main character is just how you would expect the bounty hunter from Star Wars. He plays wonderfully that hard kind of character with a dark past, but also with a sense of humor in some scenes which makes it so brisk. It's hardly an "everyday" character that you could compare with from other TV Series...
From the action, it starts quite heavy and fast paced in this first episode. Normally, you see lots of story "fillers" where things happen that not really drive on the main story, just to "fill" out some time probably to reduce costs or due to missing episode ideas. But here to be honest, its so full of nice moments, you could easily have made a movie from this episode. Maybe the will do one some day... B I just have to say I loved this episode and I hope they keep up the quality in further episodes..

The First episode, was incredible. It set a great precedence for the next episodes. This is how Star Wars should be. With and edge and grit. Cant wait for the next one.

Best i could imagine...
It's not just an expensive TV series to draw our attention, from the very first episode I can tell the story has a lot going on and it's full of surprises!

At this point... poor dialogue, poor character development, & no real interest in any of the characters (except maybe Herzog’s) after watching the first episode. Production value seemed somewhat high in some cases... but everything felt rushed, cliche, simple and soulless. Lack of development leaves the viewer with little to be invested in other than the original mythology. Very disappointed if this is supposed to be Disney’s marquee offering for its new service. The Mandalorian has all the qualities inherent in the original trilogy. It touches the necessary strings of the soul and penetrates deep into the heart. I think this is one of the best creations in this universe.

It's sad when you find out that not only is John F and Waititi involved in this show but that it's this awful sad excuse for a SW project that follows suit to these last three terrible terrible movies they made.

How can it be a gritty show and still be a kid show on Disney?

Did anyone think about anything other than profits when they decided to make a gritty PG13 show those two don't go together.

Also there is a scene when Mandalorian children are running by and every Mando in the bunker is wearing their helmet in doors.

Did any of these morons making this actually ever read a comic or novel with Mandalorians mentioned in it?

If they had they would realize how that doesn't make any sense, even to help them with their silly attempt to make us feel good about never showing the Mando main characters face.

Also not a good idea to have a show with a character we cannot see and bond with, you have 8 39 min episodes, 8.

Congrats Disney keep ruining SW and Marvel and humping it's corpse for every cent you can. One day you won't be able to coerse and manipulate the fanbase you didn't build into buying your **** anymore.

You are without shame and without vision and that can't last for ever.

Well done hacks!

The episode begins perhaps slightly too low with minimal development...followed by a middle that is perhaps slightly too rushed with some sequences coming off sloppy...but then something happens and it finds proper footing. The episode was kept simple and to the point clocking in at 40 minutes... which is just about enough time to establish the universe and profession we follow our protagonist traversing, but perhaps not enough time to establish heart or investment. At first, admittedly, it doesn't seem like there's much under the mask for a titular character. However, by the time we reach the closing credits we realize there's definitely a person behind that cold gaze and dry dialogue, and that this series is clearly about exploring who that person is... as well as the implications his own developments may have on the universe around him. As Star Wars' first leap into live-action series, so far so good-enough. A "western" set in the Star Wars universe sounds good on paper and I'm fairly optimistic that it'll look good on my screen too. Expand
