This is much better and more interesting than episode 8. The series successfully reveals the world of Star Wars.

That's too bad because at the core this series is amazing. It shows a mature side of SW which isn't about the Jedi. The mandalorians have always been a great part of SW lore, and having one as main character is a dream come true. Again, the only negative is that the plot seems to be slow with lots of episodes not advancing the plot much, disparate in budget, and lots of the great episodes being the last 3 ones. I personally feel the best episodes are the contained ones which show the Mandalorian taking on a bounty hunting mission (there is one great episode with an ensemble cast where the Mandalorian has to break out a prison inmate).

Hopefully all this is fixed in season 2.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It is okay of a series. The first two episodes was good and I liked the episode where they were on that planet with the village, then that’s where episodes got very sporadic and bland. The only good filler episode in my opinion was the prison break. The season finale was very underwhelming and also cheesy at the same time. They need to do a better job of character development and back story instead of just feeding us baby yoda segments in my opinion Expand

The show is a about a Mandalorian bounty hunter (voiced by Pedro Pascal) who finds things taking a turn when he takes the assignment to retrieve a mysterious individual. This is just a fantastic work of television!

This show looks great. It costs 15 mil per episode and definitely looks it. It has the original Star Wars trilogy appearance with a wild Wild West feel. There are a handful of great visual decisions. Also, I don't want to spoil anything but be sure to see the ending credits.

The music is really, really good. Again blending Star Wars and the Wild West.

There is just some really good dialogue. Though this is a more serious SW entry like Rogue One, it also has some decent humorous lines. Since the titular Mandalorian is a man of few words, this is one of those shows that can do a lot with a little dialogue in parts.

Though the cast is mostly just the Mandalorian, we get an excellent rotation of likable characters and actors. You may see some faces you'll recognize and won't suspect. It's especially refreshing to see Carl Weathers (Rocky, Predator) back in the spotlight as the head of the mercenary guild.

There are a couple things that appear to be an issue for several people online. First off: though the show does have a narrative through line, there is a heavy emphasis on episodic stories. I guess some people who saw the trailers were expecting one big epic tale and were disappointed. Personally, I didn't mind as they were entertaining stories. Although, I wouldn't have appreciated a little more revelation for a mysteries that was introduced early on. (I hate it when we have questions all season long and realize we have to wait until at least another season for answers.) The finale serves as a pretty strong wrap-up.

Second: Short episode length, 30-43 min. Admittedly, it'd be nice to have more Star Wars content, but it's nice that the show is straight-to-the-point and doesn't feel like it's trying to fill time.

There are a couple other issues. There are two times where a couple story elements feel like straight up copies of existing western/samurai films. Also, there is an aspect of Mandalorian culture in this that seems to conflict with how we've seen them portrayed in Star Wars Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels without explanation. The fact that Dave Filoni, the showrunner of the two shows, is an executive producer, director, and writer on this which makes the difference even more surprising.

Jon Favreau (director of Iron Man and the recent Jungle Book) created this and he really brings his A-game. This is a highly entertaining, fairly quick watch, and I highly recommend this.

The advertisement for this show called it ruthless and that it would show the dark side of the galaxy, a 'Game of Thrones' of Star Wars. And that's what I expected, the first 3 episodes were top notch with few issues here and there, I especially loved the way the episodes were shot and edited felt a lot like the original Star Wars. The writing was okay, I didn't like the part where the Mandalorian, which are bounty hunters known for getting the job done, not asking questions and just caring about the reward. Now, our bounty hunter was supposed to deliver a target, but when he realized it was a juvenile he put his life at risk to prevent the target reaching his evil employer's hands and proceeded to take care of it like he knew how to take care of a baby from a species he has never encountered. To me that felt stupid, but again in another episodes a group of raiders with AT-STs attack a village and don't kill any of the inhabitants, I also felt that that was just another way to remind us that the show is still Disney and there's no way anything would be ruthless in Disney's world. Verdict: Editing and visuals are a 9/10, but the writing is so bad and the series as a whole is so overrated just because of Baby Yoda that I feel it deserves a 5/10. It's worth watching but if you also thought the sequels are a money-grab and low effort, like really did, then this show isn't for you, not as bad as the sequels but not too good either. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. the mandalorian is a series that, in my opinion, deserves this score because of the high quality visual effects, coupled with an interesting and lively plot ... shows a humanized protagonist who is a rewards hunter who also makes mistakes and failures... is not a perfect series, but it can show a character who can't solve everything, with punches and shots, which gives a much more realistic tone to the plot, besides hilarious scenes... in general, it is a good series recommend Expand

My issue with last episode is was that battle 50v4 battle in the open nonetheless and that was one of the worst scenes I've seen in tv shows ever. That's battle ruined episode 8 which ruined entire season, kinda like 8th season of GoT ruined tv show overall. Expand

After complete the whole first season. The Mandalorian succeeds whee the Disney Trilogy fails. It's because it is made by Star Wars fans with a passion.
A classic Clint Eastwood themed style story off a lone ranger caring for a mysterious child with very little dialogue and facial expressions is very impressive. The action sequences is pretty dark which is refreshing and it's humor may sometimes be out of place. However this show is a breath of fresh air after the dreaded Disney Sequel Trilogy for fans, this may go down as the first live action Star Wars show and as well as the best.

As a die hard Star Wars fan I'm shocked the reviews for this show are so HIGH!! The show is like watching a 80's tv show like Magnum P.I or something where there is a different not well defined villain every 1 hour show and he gets beaten by the end. There was no surprises or just great storytelling at all. Just straight linear writing. When I saw the internet blow up about baby Yoda I was like this cant be a good thing that everyone is focused on a mute side character and not the actual show itself. And it looks like I was right. Again the show isnt terrible but I just finished the Witcher as well and honestly enjoyed it alot more. Which shocked me because usually anything coming from a video game background.....(yes I know about the books....the video game brought the main popularity).......is terrible. But it at least told a story and tried to tell it in a different and interseting way. The characters in this show were just plain boring. The storytelling was linear and sometimes boring and again I think Disney is killing another property they arent suited to run. This show was WAY to PG doesn't need to be rated R but it didnt need to be so bland a 3 year old could follow it either. Sorry but after all the hype I'm just highly disappointed. Show has potential but they failed to reach it. Show wasnt terrible but it wasnt rewatchable or memorable either. Expand

TM is unique, well acted, well written and well produced to a level that you couldn't hope to see other than on a big budget movie. Jon Fraveau for me is one of the most underrated directors in Hollywood right now. He does his things and you get something nice and fun to watch, period. Pedro Pascal and everyone on the show are amazing, to the action scenes to the drama ones. One of the greatest show of the year no doubt.

Some episodes are very good, the first episodes got me hooked! But a few episodes (such as EP 4 and 5 as an example) have very bland characters, sloppy storyline and feel totally pointless, making the show feel like another Disney Star Wars fan fiction. I don't think there should be pointless episodes in such a short series. Most scenes are beautiful and the cinematography is superb at times, which really nails the original Star Wars feeling. I would like to have seen a Star Wars with a higher rating than PG, making it more serious and to capture the western setting better. Expand

Kids get the usual Disney contents, moms get Baby Yoda, dads get Star Wars nerdy reference. The show almost feels like being made by a bunch of fanfiction writers with familiarity of the setting but zero sense of screen writing.

Storyline shows no complexity at all. In fact, most of them are fillers. You can skip 4 of 8 episodes and you'll still understand the story just fine. Characters are completely uninteresting. None of them are developed. None of them had nuances: protagonists are morally good heroes; antagonists are one dimensional evils. The show relies only on a cute muppet and flashy action, but has zero substance. Had a potential great world-building with some details, but they chose to abandon it for rule of cool (and cute).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After the disastrous Star Wars movies this is the only thing left in our hands. It's feels like original Star Wars, some characters look serious, some of them look like real badass and some of them looks very funny, little mystery and action mixed with little drama and humor, just like old times. Sometime feels like old western movie but it's ok, because Mandalorian story about the "Bountyhounter" not about the Jedis or Siths, but after all the chapters we still didn't any answers (not even a little bit) about story. Why Mandalorian feels so attached to "Baby Yoda"? We saw some flashbacks from his childhood but that's it. Still doesn't make sense, why he suddenly changed his mind? What did he saw in "Baby Yoda"? And more importantly what is the story behind the "Baby Yoda"? Also Madalorian looks like needs new gadgets, something like jetpack maybe? Because after chapters and chapters his fighting style still looks same it became little bit repetitive scenes after watching couple of chapters... But don't get me wrong i loved Mandalorian, he is great Star Wars character, all I feel he looks like need some improvements, that's all.

Note: I heard some rumors about sjw guys actually trying to getting touch with the Mandalorian, are you guys NUTS? Aren't you guys done enough damage to Star Wars franchise? Man, I'm tired from this nihilistic sjw pricks! Stay away from the Mandalorian! Don't even dare to touch it! You guys are like midas, except everything you touch turns to **** don't you see?!

Anyway, i really liked the mandalorian especially theme music one of the best (at least for me), i hope mandalorian continue this way without doing any ridiculous/nonsense changes in story... Fingers cross, this is still Disney you know??

The first three episodes were well written and thoroughly engaging, recreating Lucas' Star Wars landscape without forcing the issue (Rogue One), allowing the Mandalorian to stand on its own without looking like high-budget, fan-fiction. The rot began to set-in by the 4th episode of the series which was poorly written, badly directed by Bryce Dallas-Howard, resulting in a hollow, plastic replica of Seven Samurai. Nobody talks about the plot armor, mcguffin, cliche gimmicks of this show because it has something that the sequel trilogy sorely lack: Characters that CLICKS with the audience at first glance.

Nobody is annoyed by baby yoda's oh-so-lucky near-death and how-convenient force powers. We are too enamored with those oversize ears and glimmering big eyes to care about what makes sense and what doesn't. Love makes you lose your reason and ignore flaws. When Jon and Dave created these quaint characters that Star War fans can easily fall in love with, they'd already succeeded. Objectively, the show is full of flaws, but it does 100% deliver on the magic of George Lucas' "dumb kid's movie" franchise. The money printing machine is definitely being rebuilt out of the wreckage of Sith Kennedy.

The Mandalorian is something that fans expected to get from Disney. It goes beyond history of the Skywalkers and gives us a great tale about an not as ordinary bounty hunter as he appears.

Mediocraly written, sometimes bad acted, the mandalorian offered nothing to people to watch... Every episode look like a mission from a videogame, go to point A to point b, kill that target, capture that target, no character and story development...

This show can be summed up in one quote from it:

Random Character: "Do you ever take off your helmet?"

Mandalorian: "Sometimes. In private. It's part of my religion".

Turned off the show right there. Minority pandering is killing disney.

The production quality is high. Almost as high as the movies. However, one major weakness is the short episode format that really makes any depth in the stories or character development totally impossible. All characters remain as flat as had they jumped of the empire state building and all their adventures remain incredibly simple.Just action,no time for mystery or exploration.
Then there is the total lack of imagination on the writer's/makers part. It's only episode five and how many time have we been on Tatooine? Isn't there any other planet out there? Keep milking the first two movies has its limits.
Then the haunting flaw of Star Wars was the attempts to turn it into a giant dales commercial for toys sold to primary school children. It became a kids show. At first it seemed that he Mandalorian would have a more adult vibe. But with episode five we are back at the full Jar Jar Binks level robots. And then there's is the cute Yoda baby. Okay for one or two episodes but unless it falls under the spell of the Sith and becomes the Dark Side's new hope for the next Emperor it is becoming really really annoying in a Wesley Crusher kind of way.
So it gets a 6. It's not totally hopeless, but if it continues to become more of a show for little kids I will drop out. Make it meaner and less save I will become more positive.

What I like is that there isn't black or white characters only. Most of them has their goods and bads. And Mandalorian himself, show that you don't need to be a good person in order to decide to do the right thing when this is required. It would be good if more people this days don't follow money blindly as bounty hunter, but stop at some moment and help the one, who can't protect themself. In general I can't say anything negative about the series. Maybe sometimes they start a bit slower than needed, but otherwise very, very nice show which is totally worth watching even if you are not SW fan. Expand

I feel half the shots are done to the quality of a blockbuster film, and the other half of the shots feel like they are dragged out and maybe should of done another take because it brings me out of the immersion of the show. It feels like a Broadway show, but someone filmed it and is showing you the tape of the show. while impressive for live theater, its feels a level beneath the actual ability of film making. thats also another way to describe what i see wrong with the show. what i see right with it, was like I said the other half. beautiful special effects, with some movie quality scenes. the action scenes suck. just goes back to the feeling of it would be fun to watch it live on Broadway. but watching a tape of a live Broadway play leaves you feeling disconnected. I'm enjoying this show, my favourite so far after the first chapter has been chapter 4.

The look of the show is that of an 80's Star Wars show, that may sound like a negative but it isn't. It feels and looks like it is set just a few years after ROTJ and imo this enhances the show.

The story isn't a typical Star Wars story, yet it makes sense. And although the first chapter kind of gives you an idea of how the entire thing will play out. That doesn't bother me, I want to watch this story still despite this.

The show expects you to treat it like you've been invested in the story for a few years. It comes off as pretentious, and many of the scenes seem like a waste of time or like its skipping a lot of events that the viewer should see. The writing is somewhat lazy and leaves me wanting so much more, so instead of being satisfied after an episode, I resort to watching anything else to leave a better taste in my mouth. But it's early and Disney+'s first original. I would still give it a chance. Like I said, it's not boring. Newcomers to Game of Thrones often said that about the first couple of episodes. I'm hoping it improves. Expand

This is even more impressive considering this is Star Wars' first live action show. It contains elements from all aspects of the Star Wars universe to appeal to all fans which is something I can deeply appreciate. Its use of dialogue (or lack there of) was at first something that took me back, but then as the show progressed I saw how this was intentional as the silence conveys more than it seems. The music is phenomenal, its sci-fi action mixed with western drama sets the mood the whole way through. I have to say that for once, Disney out did itself in making this piece. Expand

After the first two episodes, I can say that this show recaptures the Star Wars essence that was lost by the recent movies (The Last Jedi and Solo specifically).

The cinematography is top notch as always, the story is interesting, the main character even managed to have more charisma than some of the protagonists from the recent movies. The pilot is the perfect time to present the main narrative of the show, the disruption/recognition and the motives of the protagonist. The Mandalorian begins strong by presenting him as a badass bounty hunter that is evidently trained in the arts of combat and experienced in his job however his motives seem quite bland, being that he only wants to make money by hunting down contracts. The show tries to jam pack Star Wars references on the viewer in aims to earn credit through nostalgia but feels too forced and the scenery is not far from awful. The environments shown in chapter 1 are very basic and blend, being only dark and enclosed rooms and desolate deserts. When you look at the rich environments that's George Lucas created, and the availability of atheistically pleasing scenery/settings presented in previous star wars movies, it seems hard to get the environment as wrong as they did in the pilot episode; there is nothing creative about bland open plains of ice and sand and western styled villages. In terms of the aliens, they nailed their design and there seems to be a much wider variety of aliens and their use of practical effects on the first contract The Mandalorian seeks out really pays off in looking visually stunning. The action scenes are also well choreographed and the bounty droid seen towards the end works well as a good source comedic relief. For a pilot episode this has started off strongly and I'm excited for the future episode and the disruption faced at the end of the episode is also very interesting, I just hope they venture to more exciting terrain outside of the deserts in the future episodes. I recommend this show however expected more from the 15 million dollar budget on each episode. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Mandalorian. A safe but middling effort.

While we are only two episodes in at the time of this review, I can say I have enjoyed The Mandalorian. While it's good, it's far from great. This is typical safe Kathleen Kennedey PG Star Wars. Does just enough to satisfy die hard Star Wars fans but not enough to make it something special to the common viewer. After the Solo movie disappointed with it's more gritty PG-13 rating helped reinforce their tried and true toned down kids demographic. Some over the top, almost unbelievable moments and a baby yoda creature spice up the first two episodes but toned down violence is almost laughable. If you are a Star Wars fan this is will be a entertaining and enjoyable jump back in. If your not then this show will leave a lock lacking in it's current state.

My dream is a gritty, dark, tragic more adult focused story and plot. Something more in line with GoT style series. I wish they'd take the risk, focusing on younger audience is fine but leaves a big, older market wanting something more.
