The episode begins perhaps slightly too low with minimal development...followed by a middle that is perhaps slightly too rushed with some sequences coming off sloppy...but then something happens and it finds proper footing. The episode was kept simple and to the point clocking in at 40 minutes... which is just about enough time to establish the universe and profession we follow our protagonist traversing, but perhaps not enough time to establish heart or investment. At first, admittedly, it doesn't seem like there's much under the mask for a titular character. However, by the time we reach the closing credits we realize there's definitely a person behind that cold gaze and dry dialogue, and that this series is clearly about exploring who that person is... as well as the implications his own developments may have on the universe around him. As Star Wars' first leap into live-action series, so far so good-enough. A "western" set in the Star Wars universe sounds good on paper and I'm fairly optimistic that it'll look good on my screen too. Expand

This is even more impressive considering this is Star Wars' first live action show. It contains elements from all aspects of the Star Wars universe to appeal to all fans which is something I can deeply appreciate. Its use of dialogue (or lack there of) was at first something that took me back, but then as the show progressed I saw how this was intentional as the silence conveys more than it seems. The music is phenomenal, its sci-fi action mixed with western drama sets the mood the whole way through. I have to say that for once, Disney out did itself in making this piece. Expand

This is the without a doubt the best Star Wars feature I've watched since OT movies. Left me with a bittersweet taste because it's a living proof of what we could've expect from the sequel trilogy if someone like Jon Favreau had directed it.

After the first two episodes, I can say that this show recaptures the Star Wars essence that was lost by the recent movies (The Last Jedi and Solo specifically).

The cinematography is top notch as always, the story is interesting, the main character even managed to have more charisma than some of the protagonists from the recent movies. My only negative point is because of some scenes feel a little like filler. Hopefully the show stays in the right track and they don´t lose focus when the inevitable subsequent seasons arrive

It reminds me more of Star Wars than Star Wars. Its grimey, action packed and full of adventure. The musical score is a incredible mix of electronic / brass instrumental and something new to the franchise that I absolutely welcome. All of the acting is great and they have brought back many of the alien races from the original trilogies (instead of not showing barely any! *cough* *cough* episodes 789). If you enjoy watching straight up adventure (without all of the politics or different plots following different characters mess) this nails it straight on the head and you will love it. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Series 2's ending was ruined by uncanny valley Luke CGI, stupid dubstep, stupid Stormtroopers that just stand there to get killed easily, and when Mando takes his helmet off wasn't powerful because he did it in the penultimate episode. Oh and Moff Gideon's hammy monologuing was a huge cliche (Like The Incredibles satirized). Why don't Lucasfilm use deep fake technology? Collider have shown how easy and completely convincing to use deep fake with SW characters. Overall this season was disappointing, but some nice moments so I'll take any decent Star Wars morsels, but I found it nowhere near as good as season 1. It seemed to be 50% filler and so many tropes that got repeated (Side quests). Much shorter episodes too. I can only presume that Lucasfilm were in a hurry to get this out, the writing was rushed. This was even pointed out by one of the directors who was given a 19 page script. Expand

My summary in short from the first episode: Disney raises TV Series to a new Level.
I have rarely seen an episode so grasping like the first episode of The Mandalorian. Technically, it was top notch, the CGI, monsters etc. look like in the cinema. The main character is just how you would expect the bounty hunter from Star Wars. He plays wonderfully that hard kind of character with a dark past, but also with a sense of humor in some scenes which makes it so brisk. It's hardly an "everyday" character that you could compare with from other TV Series...
From the action, it starts quite heavy and fast paced in this first episode. Normally, you see lots of story "fillers" where things happen that not really drive on the main story, just to "fill" out some time probably to reduce costs or due to missing episode ideas. But here to be honest, its so full of nice moments, you could easily have made a movie from this episode. Maybe the will do one some day... B I just have to say I loved this episode and I hope they keep up the quality in further episodes..

This show's premiere was amazing.

Story has me hooked so far and the role of Mandalorian culture is really refreshing change in Star Wars stories. Acting is all around amazing, being it the protagonist being Mandalorian or troopers being troopers but with soul. Atmosphere is spaghetti western like, which is perfect for telling Star Wars Bounty Hunter stories. I thought I would miss Boba Fett, but so far the show's protagonist has been amazing. Good amount of laughs and "wow's" during the first episode. 10/10

If you are like me, you were greatly disappointed by just about every release in this franchise since the Return of the Jedi. Jon Favreau does an amazing job at capturing the same feel and integrity that made this franchise what it is today. The practical effects are amazing. He understands that we appreciate this far beyond what CGI has to offer even in 2019. As far as writing goes, the characters have actual interesting depth to them unlike the mundane and bland examples found in the recent movies. You actually end up caring about what happens in this series, or at least I did. The music is also fantastic and truly compliments the visuals. This show gives the impression that it cares much more about story rather than cheap fast action scenes and feel good moments like in the recent movies.

I highly recommend this to anyone who has given up on this franchise but was a fan of the older films. I am very impressed.

I'm enjoying this show, my favourite so far after the first chapter has been chapter 4.

The look of the show is that of an 80's Star Wars show, that may sound like a negative but it isn't. It feels and looks like it is set just a few years after ROTJ and imo this enhances the show.

The story isn't a typical Star Wars story, yet it makes sense. And although the first chapter kind of gives you an idea of how the entire thing will play out. That doesn't bother me, I want to watch this story still despite this.

What I like is that there isn't black or white characters only. Most of them has their goods and bads. And Mandalorian himself, show that you don't need to be a good person in order to decide to do the right thing when this is required. It would be good if more people this days don't follow money blindly as bounty hunter, but stop at some moment and help the one, who can't protect themself. The pilot is the perfect time to present the main narrative of the show, the disruption/recognition and the motives of the protagonist. The Mandalorian begins strong by presenting him as a badass bounty hunter that is evidently trained in the arts of combat and experienced in his job however his motives seem quite bland, being that he only wants to make money by hunting down contracts. The show tries to jam pack Star Wars references on the viewer in aims to earn credit through nostalgia but feels too forced and the scenery is not far from awful. The environments shown in chapter 1 are very basic and blend, being only dark and enclosed rooms and desolate deserts. When you look at the rich environments that's George Lucas created, and the availability of atheistically pleasing scenery/settings presented in previous star wars movies, it seems hard to get the environment as wrong as they did in the pilot episode; there is nothing creative about bland open plains of ice and sand and western styled villages. In terms of the aliens, they nailed their design and there seems to be a much wider variety of aliens and their use of practical effects on the first contract The Mandalorian seeks out really pays off in looking visually stunning. The action scenes are also well choreographed and the bounty droid seen towards the end works well as a good source comedic relief. For a pilot episode this has started off strongly and I'm excited for the future episode and the disruption faced at the end of the episode is also very interesting, I just hope they venture to more exciting terrain outside of the deserts in the future episodes. I recommend this show however expected more from the 15 million dollar budget on each episode. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Mandalorian. A safe but middling effort.

While we are only two episodes in at the time of this review, I can say I have enjoyed The Mandalorian. While it's good, it's far from great. This is typical safe Kathleen Kennedey PG Star Wars. Does just enough to satisfy die hard Star Wars fans but not enough to make it something special to the common viewer. After the Solo movie disappointed with it's more gritty PG-13 rating helped reinforce their tried and true toned down kids demographic. Some over the top, almost unbelievable moments and a baby yoda creature spice up the first two episodes but toned down violence is almost laughable. If you are a Star Wars fan this is will be a entertaining and enjoyable jump back in. If your not then this show will leave a lock lacking in it's current state.

My dream is a gritty, dark, tragic more adult focused story and plot. Something more in line with GoT style series. I wish they'd take the risk, focusing on younger audience is fine but leaves a big, older market wanting something more.

I really really enjoyed this. The Mandalorians are my favorite thing in Star Wars and always have been. I was nervous to watch this... but i'm truly impressed. It's gritty and creative... it's just what the dying franchise needs.

While the mood and feel of the show is cool, there is really very limited next to none character arcs or even storyline arcs of note. It is heavily monotone, achieving little in the way of drama. It is hard to justify it as a tv series, perhaps a 3 episode miniseries would have been enough.

Again, it is difficult not to like the Mandalorian because the few things it does have going for it, it does very well, but it's very far from must see tv. A generous 6.5/10 from me.

However ruining the immersion, all the actors in armor ie troopers and the mandolorian looked unnatural when they were walking running or moving in general. As someone who wears awkward gear i know that after a while you become used to walking and moving in it. Also there elite former troopers moved like shell shocked new recruits who had never fought, beeen trained or born with a lick of self preservation. The sceene with the baby and 2 bike troopers was entirely on point though. Good concept horrible training and emersion breaking at points that a few hours of training could of helped with. Expand

Nobody is annoyed by baby yoda's oh-so-lucky near-death and how-convenient force powers. We are too enamored with those oversize ears and glimmering big eyes to care about what makes sense and what doesn't. Love makes you lose your reason and ignore flaws. When Jon and Dave created these quaint characters that Star War fans can easily fall in love with, they'd already succeeded. Objectively, the show is full of flaws, but it does 100% deliver on the magic of George Lucas' "dumb kid's movie" franchise. The money printing machine is definitely being rebuilt out of the wreckage of Sith Kennedy.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I watched up to S2E6. This is pure amazing unadulterated fun badass action. It deserves a 10. I give it 9 because the beginning is a bit slow and after watching 3 episodes I thought it was boring. But I gave it a second chance after hearing people's comments and I'm happy I did. This is the BEST STAR WARS I've seen, up there with the first trilogy (but with faaaaar better effects)

At first is catches by surprise because it's not the typical Star Wars. It's a western set in SW universe. You have to get used to it. By S1E5 I was already hooked. The action scenes are so well done

The episode twists are so cool

The main character is a total badass at the level of Rambo and the secondary cast is really great.

The pacing is excellent.

Baby Yoda is the first cute SW creature which is not annoying.

There are funny scenes which parody SW without being cringey or feeling forced or too much. It is particularly funny to see how deliberately useless the regular stormtroopers are. There is a particular scene where they're trying to aim and shoot at something and they don't hit even once.

The evil guy is over-the-top on your face evil but without being too much.

The only thing I felt a bit lacking is that almost no background is given to Bo Katan and Ahsoka Tano. However I understand that their story is already developed somwhere else.

The only thing I didn't like is a certain fight between a fully trained jedi knight and what I understood to be a regular human. The jedi and the human where kind of matched in terms of skill. That didn't seem to make sense as jedi have super human skills and no creature that can use the force should in theory match a master in the use of the force (except perhaps a Mandalorian?).

I hope they continue producing this quality stuff, because this is through the roof.

Disney has just convinced me to be happy about them buying all these licences. If they do this good, please keep on buying stuff...

It created strong characters that you care for, relate to and want to know more of. This is especially praiseworthy because the Mandalorian played by Pedro Pascal always wears his helmet. It works because it follows the “Show not tell” rule. You get everything by his body language, voice and even hesitation in some situations. The show is much like Sergio Leones western where they speak not much but the scenery, mimic, expressions and pacing fills the gaps more than enough. Then there is the strong additional cast. Lets start with “Baby Yoda” who is named officially as the child but the first name sticks to the character and will be used. He is mostly practical effects by puppeteers and works amazing. Strong chemistry with the cast. Carl Weathers as leader of the bounty hunter guild is a master scoundrel, trickster and interesting character. IG-11 the bounty hunting droid steals the show and he won me over. Kuiil by Nick Nolte is another favorite. Great backstory, smart and a noble soul;“I have spoken”;-). With former rebel shock trooper Cara Dune played by Gina Carano we have a strong addition to the cast. She is smart, kicks as and will win you over easily. Bonus points for Emily Swallow as The Armorer, Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon who you will love to hate and others I wont spoil. The story is pretty good and it gets better and better as new characters were introduced, you learn more backstories and the development / interactions start. It starts with the Mandalorian picking a special bounty hunt that is granted under the table. He did not know that this changes his life drastically. More I will not spoil. It is also the lore and world-building that improves the show. The Mandalorian codex (This is the way), the outskirts of the Star Wars galaxy that are mostly abandoned by law, the bounty hunters (and their guild) and the remains of the Empire are grabbing your attention. There are also underlying philosophical aspects that can be argued about. Good vs evil and shades of gray of this. Nature and nurture or parenting and family. The sets and special effects are also top notch and I think they did an excellent job. Overall this has hearth, soul, great characters and you always feel engaged and want more. Easily a 10/10 and I am hyped for season two. That is the way and I have spoken;-). Expand

There were definitely some great moments within Season 1, but unfortunately, these great moments were too few and far between. One of the biggest issues hands down is the acting which can range from tolerable to downright torturous at times- this is easily some of the worst acting performances we have witnessed in the Disney era, but there are definitely a few standout performances. In addition, the story with the exception of "the Child", who has been dubbed "Baby Yoda" isn't that interesting. I feel like The Mandalorian is about as generic as you can get which is a shame because overall it seems like a missed opportunity. Instead of interesting known Star Wars favorites such as Bossk, Boba Fett, IG-88, Dengar, etc we simply were given an unknown character who quite frankly isn't that special (or that interesting for that matter). This seems just like another attempt from Disney to bury just more of what George Lucas created and it doesn't work that well. Sure this offering is better than The Last Jedi, Attack of the Clones and the mediocre Solo film, but compared to other films within the Skywalker saga and compared to other Star Wars TV shows such as The Clone Wars and Rebels, The Mandalorian simply isn't the slam dunk that many people claim it to be. As a Star Wars fan, it is worth a watch, but it isn't really worth the cost of Disney+ subscription on its own merits. Expand

The Mandalorian feels like something new, in that it adds to the universe of Star Wars, instead of being a repeat of other works within the universe. Excellent visuals, well played characters, and the series does not seem bothered by superfluous, too explanatory dialogue (like many other tv-series seem to be these days). TM is unique, well acted, well written and well produced to a level that you couldn't hope to see other than on a big budget movie. Jon Fraveau for me is one of the most underrated directors in Hollywood right now. He does his things and you get something nice and fun to watch, period. Pedro Pascal and everyone on the show are amazing, to the action scenes to the drama ones. One of the greatest show of the year no doubt.

But thisThe Mandalorian is easily the best Star Wars material Disney have ever produced since their acquisition of Lucasfilm. The new film trilogy and the Solo movie are all to be avoided like the plague, whereas Rogue One was pretty good. But this TV series is on a wholly another level. It's more like what Star Wars should be, than the Episodes 7/8/9 combined.

The Mandalorian is structured more like a western cowboy TV series than a space adventure. The titular Mandalorian (aka "Mando") played by Pedro Pascal is very reminiscent of Clint Eastwood's Man With No Name character from the Sergio Leone spaghetti western movies of the 1960s. Just like Eastwood's character lacked a name, Pascal's Mando constantly hides his face behind a helmet, adding to the surrounding mystery of who he is. Both characters are self-serving bounty hunters and very good sharpshooters. And when the need arises, they can be helpful to others as well.

This show introduced us to the Child aka "Baby Yoda" (later revealed to be named Grogu). The Child is an infant with latent Force powers who can help with the Force from time to time, and has to be returned to his people by Mando.

The Mandalorian series has also spawned several cultural memes, particularly the Mandalorian warriors' motto "This Is The Way", and The Child itself due to its cuteness.

So far there have been 2 seasons, both of them excellent. Can't wait for Season 3.

I expected nothing from the new Star Wars movies and series, and I were right in the main triology of Rei, but this one has it.
Yes, it has the essence of the old ages of Star Wars, where the galaxy was rich in especies, where the worlds of smugglers and bounty hunters were based on an old far west style and where the main characters are charismatic.

After three spectacular episodes and a trending little surprise, the show established itself in a more standard few episodes but turn again into a high level episodes in the ending (two last episodes), finishing the first season whith hype for the second one.
