First of all, I wanted this show to be good. I hoped it would be as good as LOTR, but that is too high of a goal, so I lowered my expectations. If I would lower it to match the level of quality of this show I would go through floor and findFirst of all, I wanted this show to be good. I hoped it would be as good as LOTR, but that is too high of a goal, so I lowered my expectations. If I would lower it to match the level of quality of this show I would go through floor and find myself six feet under.

That is also great depiction of entertainment contained in this show. Being burried six feet under would still be more fun, than this boring mess.

Casting was a failure, not because of inclusivity, but because of the unexperienced and dull actors. Some are good enough and others are worse than casting of corporate anti-sexual-harrasment videos.

Writing is unispired, boring, lazy and oh god disrespectfull. Nothing about Tolkien except the names. Total disrespect to the author and the fans, that by now adore his work for more than a half of the century.

CGI, special effects and such are mostly fine, but still seem like a mess, that force to wonder where all the money went.

Music is not fitting and just dissapointing.

Galadriel deserves few words on her own:
Nobody likes Karen behaviour, especially people who like Tolkiens work. Galadriel is portrayed as a arrogant, extremelly unlikable and nothing like in the books.

Lastly about the drama:
Fans aren't mad about the black, or whatever casting. Fans are mad, that amazon lazilly took existing thing and butchered it infront of them, just to make money. People are mad, that the books were thrown out of the window, because to this point every media around Tolkiens work inspired fans to take the book and submerge deeper into its lore. There is nothing Tolkien about this show. If it was made as a whole new show, some fans would loved this. It is just another, not-so-great fantasy show. Calling people racist because of their reviews is arrogant and stupid. Best thing to do, would be to scrap this mess and relaunch it next year with reworked story, effects, music and recasted few WHITE ELVES.… Expand

Amazingly, they had as much money for season 1 as was spent on the Hobbit trilogy. Elves are not wise and without glory and are mostly human than elves. orcs are completely different. single fighters who come from undergrounds! and hobbits are some few scared creatures that hide weirdly. and about this two episodes: Galadriel, seeking reveng for handred years and cant fight Sauron. she goes to a cave with an Elite groups of elves soldiers that all smashed by a troll and suddenly Galadriel comes and kills troll with some sophisticated attacks! Elrond is a fool politican. Elves haircuts are like Humans in 21th century. actors have no feeling in their acts. you cant say: ok I like this actor or his/her role. dilogues are so bad and you cant see any wittness in them. why would a little hobbit should think she has a responsibilty for a fallen man from sky? the dilogue in that scene is so awfull when 2 hobbit girls talking about that giant. a kid and a healer woman, kill a orc wich an Elite Elf worrior is scaping from. why a fallen man from sky with lots of skills and knoledge can speaks any language and acts like a fool from stone age. I think it s the worst adaptation that anyone can build from a book. Characters are for best dull, for worst they are actually irritating! The writing is awful! The only thing this series is good at is actually doing what it was made for - delivering "the message". Unlike Rogue One for example, this show is utterly empty on the story side of things, so you actually are going to hate the main character (yes, it's Galadriel) from the very first scenes. The dialogs are just hillarious. They drop some totally sensless grandiloquent phrases all the time... "You have not seen what I have seen"... "I have seen what I have seen"... "They have seen what they have seen?" For real? Is that a show based on one of world's best book series? The show is a total amaturity. And yes, we can see it from episode one, so there is no point in watching it further. Save your time and go read a book instead, or spend an evening with your family.… Expand

Dialogs are nonsensical at times, and constantly describe what is on screen ["look a hole in the ground", "you don't know what's down there" ect]. Physics are consistently in question. Scenes draw my unintentional laughter. There's no real reason to watch this. House of the dragon is an infinite ly better watch… Expand

Yes, the dwarfs look really good. The landscapes and cities are also very well done and the music is okay, but unfortunately that's where it ends. I think the elves all look reallyI am very disappointed after the first two episodes.

I think the elves all look really horrible - mostly MUCH too old (see Celebrimbor!), short hipster hairstyles and really lousy wigs (see Gil Galad). I don't see anything sublime with the Elves either, like Legolas, Thranduil, Celeborn or or or. Elrond somehow lusts after Galadriel even though it's his mother-in-law and one wonders all the time - where is Celeborn? The dialogues between the elves are totally flat, long-winded and you never give the impression that they are the wisest of all beings... Galadriel is presented simply as a superheroine, but seems more like a 3000+ year old child, which is totally stubborn. Gil Galad and Elrond were and are both great rulers and warriors, which doesn't come across at all. Gil Galad was not at all authorized to let other Elves sail to the West and even if he did, it was forbidden and not possible for the Noldor Elves like Galadriel to sail to the West! Arondir doesn't convince me at all either. Not because of the looks, but because he just walks around with his fictional wife, constantly scowls, and his dialogue is totally flat - see his "conversation" with the other elf. Oh, and why are the women of the elves mostly veiled???

So sorry, if you love Lord of the Rings, only know a little bit more and have also watched more than just the films, you will often be very, very disappointed here. Not from the landscape, the cities, the music, but from the really bad portrayal of the elves. Especially Celebrimbor and the other old elves were just cast wrong, the design of the clothes is terrible and we don't even need to talk about the hair. Misrepresentation of familiar characters such as Elrond and Gil Galad and an over-the-top Galadriel. twisting of lore etc. etc.

Ultimately a pure disappointment. Landscape, cities and music is not everything. By far not. That's why I can't take the series with me at all and it's really boring. This modernisation of Tolkien doesn't make sense at all, it's a story written a long time ago and was made to be a mythos for england and was inspired by norse mythology.

The acting really isn't anything special, kinda meh at best.

The visuals are good, which is to be expected with this kind of budget (bit to bright for my taste).

The actions of the characters don't make much sense in my head (like Galadriel jumping of the ship, which is basically suicide) and i don't even know why i should like any of them.
Heck, i still don't have any clue about like 90% of the Story, which viewers should have after a ton of trailers and two whole episodes.

Dialogues are kinda dumb and not very good.
(You haven't seen, yes i have, no you havent', yes i have,...)

The lorebreaking just makes me cry aswell.
You could just change a few names here and there and there wouldn't be any Tolkien related stuff left at all, it really is that far gone from the books.

Didn't enjoy it at all, was bored all the way through.

Also, new characters were made up while important main characters Tolkien created were deleted. Races were changed, sexes were changed, the appearence of certain fantasy races were changed, the story was heavily changed, and character's personalities are completely different from what they're supposed to be. No one should be supporting this, or anything like it. The people who made it are Marxist political radicals.

Besides the fact that it's an overtly woke mess, which made a point to purposely destroy Tolkien's vision (apparently they believe they are better at writing fantasy than Tolkien), but the production values are all over the place. Some scenes look incredible while others look very poorly put together. I blame that solely on the directing. It's a directors job to oversee the entire production and make sure the final product is the best it can be. There was a big failure here, in that regard.

The acting is one of the shows weakest technical aspects, however. Some of the actors are so inept with their abilities that they come across like people who you'd find on a WB channel television show. For a 1 billion dollar budget I have no idea how the production values are as bad as they are. While they're not terrible, they're not nearly as good as anyone was expecting. Maybe it's the fact that instead of seeking out incredible talent to portray Tolkien's art accurately they, instead, focused all their efforts on trying to shoehorn in as much woke/Marxist programming as possible.

I'm expecting any more strong female leads introduced will have the exact same character traits. Please can someone come up with a new character type? These self inserts are not interesting, inspiring or relatable in any way.

It doesn't deserve any marks, no-one involved seems to care about fantasy and they probably laughed at nerds and geeks while growing up for loving something so silly and childish as wizards and magic. I say this because of the total lack of attention to the small details that make a world feel real. It's just so soulless and sterile as scene after scene of nothing comes and goes. And the worst thing is how the character tells the viewer how you are supposed to feel about them. All of their intentions and feelings are explained to you the viewer because you can't be trusted to figure it out for yourself… Expand

Scanning through these reviews, I now know that there is concerted effort to make positive reviews and reviewers look better than the countless people that voted negatively.

So cynically obvious it's laughable. EVERY positive review has been upticked by almost every person.

The only problem with attempting to fix a positive impression are the vast majority of those pesky negative reviewers.

You can try to fix things to look like positive 'Green' reviews but sadly for the fixers, I am seeing a LOT of 'Red' reviews here!

Remember; how many find something useful is not nearly as important as the reviews written.

The show is so terribly written, dull dialogue, phrases that are meant to be profound or Tolkien-esque but they seem like a shallow Instagram post, Galadriel es so unlikeable and unrelatable that they had to writte the rest of the charactersThe show is so terribly written, dull dialogue, phrases that are meant to be profound or Tolkien-esque but they seem like a shallow Instagram post, Galadriel es so unlikeable and unrelatable that they had to writte the rest of the characters around her so bad so she could "shine", things that happen because they looked pretty but are out of any logic (like that big pile of helmets, I mean, seriously?), The Hobbit are horrible, the characters react to the plot instead of developing it, they have to explain everything that is happening because they assumed the spectator is dumb, and a long etc.

The only reason I am giving 0 points despite the fact the show has cool graphics and stuff is because they are using the actors as shields to defend themselves of the bad reviews and blaming the fans and calling them racists, shame on the showrrunners and shame on webs like this one that are praising it out of nothing, well, out of $$$ to be honest.

Worst piece of crap ever!
