Summary: Nineteen-year-old Meredith Estes is excited to finally start college when suddenly, she gets a sore throat. At first, she doesn't worry too much since her friends also felt a little under the weather, but her sore throat persists. To make matters worse, Meredith also sleeps more than usual. She developsnight sweats, fevers, and swollen tonsils and vomits at some point. Meredith loses her memory, her head becomes swollen, and her vision and speech deteriorate. Doctors are unsure about Meredith's ailment, until she goes through a craniotomy. They finally figure out that Meredith has been suffering from Lemierre's Syndrome, a disease that has been forgotten, due to the heavy use of antibiotics. Doug Posluszny has been healthy, until he suddenly becomes dizzy, with flushing skin, chills, and a headache. At first, it seems that he's simply dehydrated, but Doug soon develops numbness and tingling; excruciating, persistent headaches; weight loss; memory loss; and chest pains with breathing difficulties. Doctors believeit's all in his head, butafter an old acquaintance refers him to a certain doctor, Doug finds out that he has had Lyme disease the whole time. Expand
