Summary: This was the second time in the history of Eurovision that the United Kingdom had been the host nation, and they still had not won a contest. France, the winners of the 1962 Contest declined the opportunity to host, as they had hosted it in 1959 and 1961, and did not wish to host again in 1963. All sixteen countries who had competed in last year's contest were back contending for the 1963 title. However, the 1963 Contest will be forever marred in controversy over the announcement of the winners. Hostess Katie Boyle claimed to have problems understanding the Norwegian jury when they first gave their votes, and they had to be called back after all other juries had voted. When the Norwegian jury was called again, their points were altered in favour of the Danish song, giving it a small lead over the Swiss entry, and thus providing Denmark with the victory. Expand
