All very much and happily remains the same--and unless you are an absolute die-hard insane fan who will find something to complain about here ... there really isn't all that much to complain about whatsoever.

The comic timing isn't as tightly paced as it once was, but there's a certain WTF thrill in watching story lines meander where ever they please. [20/27 Mar 2015, p.92]

It still feels, moves, and thinks like the Community you know. It has changed, yet it hasn’t. Its essence remains.

It feels familiar and fresh, with myriad possibilities in front of it thanks to smart new cast additions and a renewed focus on those characters over just getting lost in the creatively inane.

Community continues to achieve a tricky balance of cynicism, sentiment and surreality.

At his best, as is frequently on display here, Harmon knows how to overload a scene with references to everything from dinosaurs to Lawnmower Man, and still keep the action moving.

The heart remains the same. If you loved it before, you’ll still love it. And if Community wasn’t your kind of humor in the past, it’s not going to be now.

These episodes are not their finest half-hours, but they’re laying a foundation for greater things to come.

The season premiere makes a gentle effort to re-establish the show’s shrinking original cast.

The premiere, which is funny moment to moment while also being a thoughtful referendum on the nature and style of Community and whether it needs to change.... The season’s second episode is a little flat over all, but the scenes in which Mr. Rash is strapped into a pair of cut-rate virtual-reality goggles, navigating a computer landscape out of the “Tron” era, are worth the effort of finding Yahoo Screen.

The college was saved and the show was saved, but that left each with a question: what now? The first two new episodes still seem to be figuring it out. Community still feels very much like the same show in tone, sense of humor and production quality.

While the first episode is comfortingly familiar to Community obsessives, the second one feels weirdly off.

Although the cast changes may take a while to get used to at the start, they soon become hilarious, lovable additions to the group. The humour is a bit wackier, which I love, and the lack of restraints of being on Yahoo instead of television really shows (Especially in running time of episodes). This season really has been fantastic and quirky. Full Review »

Just sat through the first 3 episodes, I wasn't expecting much but they really surprised me with the quality of this new season. The fact they decided to just go completely insane with the plotlines was in my opinion, really smart. Full Review »

This season feels different, but in a good way. Shirley has left the group and Troy now being long gone, Community has added Frankie (played by Paget Brewster) and Elroy (played by the amazing Keith David). These additions are great and I'm very surprised how much I actually liked the Frankie character. She adds "the straight man" (or in the case woman) view that is missing from the group since... ever. And no matter what he is in, I love Keith David (Gargoyles ftw). The first two episodes were funny and full of Community-esque shenanigans.

I can see how fans of Community would be turned off from this new season being on Yahoo or the cast changes, but even if I didn't like the season that much, more Community is better than no Community. But , I actually did like the first two episodes and I think I will like the rest of the season. If you haven't tried Community yet, seasons 1-5 are on Hulu or check your local listings. I just hope Yahoo Screen's video player gets better...
