The show isn’t even close to fully formed yet--the relationships between characters are mere sketches, and the mélange of patients, interpersonal moments, and hospital politics is a bit of a jumble--but the foundation feels solid enough to hint that while this might not be the next ER, it’s certainly something that could grow into a fully realized, enjoyable show.

There is NO new ground broken here. And yet, like “Chicago Fire,” there’s something that works.... The cast here is better than average for the modern medical drama. Platt and Merkerson are the two veterans who ground the piece, while the new young cast, especially DaCosta, DeVito and Donnell have breakout potential.

Viewers looking for the best new medical drama of this still young season can find it in Chicago Med. Then again, there are only two of them so far.

Should be renamed, "Chicago Meh." CBS' highly mediocre Code Black is superior to the tired medical drama while soapy Greys Anatomy is farShould be renamed, "Chicago Meh." CBS' highly mediocre Code Black is superior to the tired medical drama while soapy Greys Anatomy is far more interesting and entertaining than both. This new Chicago iteration from Dick Wolf is entirely paint by numbers television all the way but the crossovers with PD and Fire should provide a built in viewer base. All those hunky Chicago cops and firemen will need repair work at the Chicago hospital and TLC from the hot nurses. . Full Review »

I'm afraid that with the exception of "Chicago PD," Dick Wolf's Chicago franchise is a sorry shadow of the Manhattan originals. Chicago FireI'm afraid that with the exception of "Chicago PD," Dick Wolf's Chicago franchise is a sorry shadow of the Manhattan originals. Chicago Fire is puerile, and the latest offering, Chicago Med is formulaic in the extreme. Thank God for stalwarts S. Epatha Merkerson and Oliver Platt, either of whom could probably have saved the Titanic. This may be a greater challenge. Imagine an ER filled with narcissists, but wait, I'm not just talking about nurses and docs here, but patients as well! I'm sorry, was there a WGA writers strike occurring when the "script" for the first episode was written? Every hackneyed ER plot point from better shows was resurrected here. Even David Koch would not buy the naming right to this new ER center... and that's saying something. Full Review »
