It's certainly a good-looking and challenging shoot 'em up but Pulstar isn't quite as fun as many other NeoGeo shooters.

If you have a fondness for Psikyo-style shmups then Aero Fighters 3 will make a perfect addition to your gaming library.

With so many must-play retro shoot 'em ups available on modern consoles, Ghost Pilots ends up being one disappointing game.

If you want to see how fun NeoGeo shmups can be then you need to play Prehistoric Isle 2. It's one of the best games in the genre.

Vasara Collection contains 2 incredibly fun classic shoot 'em ups that aren't very well known which makes this collection even more worthwhile. So, if you're an arcade shooter fan then buying this compilation should be a no-brainer.

As a huge Wonder Boy fan, I enjoyed Wonder Boy Returns Remix but it's definitely not a complete improvement over 2017's less than stellar offering. The fact that it's missing a lot of its content simply doesn't make much sense at all.

Ittle Dew may not contain a lengthy adventure but it's so packed with fun that I highly recommend it. Replaying this indie classic definitely made me excited for the prospect of Ittle Dew 3. Will it ever happen? By Itan's beard, I hope so.

Whipseey and the Lost Atlas may be a cute and somewhat fun 2D platformer but it's a bit too unforgiving as well as incredibly short.

ESport Manager has a solid premise and some cool simulation elements but the actual matches are way too easy to exploit.

Ignoring the huge hassle of powering your base and how difficult it is to use the industrial hotspots, I still enjoyed all of the changes in No Man's Sky Beyond. There's quite a variety of them so if you're a long-time No Man's Sky player, I'm sure you'll find something to enjoy. However, be warned because if you have any old bases, it might take a while to power them all up.

If you fit in Vambrace: Cold Soul's niche audience, you'll definitely have a fun time but overall, it's a tough game to widely recommend.

Not everyone will enjoy Agatha Knife's off-putting world but those who do will find a lot to like about this quirky adventure game.

Habroxia is about as standard as retro-style shoot 'em ups can get while still offering slight twists on the classic gameplay.

I enjoyed Pig Eat Ball much more than I thought I would and I'll gladly go back to it whenever I want some frantic arcade fun.

As a Geometry Wars clone, Debris Infinity offers some welcome gameplay wrinkles but it doesn't quite live up to the classic.

In the end, Harvest Moon: Mad Dash disappoints as a Harvest Moon game and as a puzzler. It definitely has some redeeming qualities but they're so minor when compared to the super-easy and humdrum gameplay that I simply can't recommend playing this silly spin-off.

The Legend of Dark Witch was a blast back in 2014 and it's still a treat to play 5 years later. Whether you're new to the series or not, it's a must-play game for any 2D action game enthusiast.

I imagine that less patient gamers will dismiss Mistover but once you let it hook you, it's a tough RPG to put down.

Cat Quest II took what made the original special and amplified the fun with co-op multiplayer and a variety of enjoyable quests.

Mango Protocol's twisted sense of humour is in full force in MechaNika so if you love dark humour and adventure games, give it a go.

Old-school beat 'em up fans will surely have some fun with Stay Cool, Kobayashi-San! but its repetitive and random nature definitely makes it an ultimately tedious and frustrating experience.

Sturmwind EX is one of the best shmups available for modern consoles. It's clear that a lot of love and attention went into every detail of its gameplay and world and the result is one refined and super-satisfying arcade experience.

If you like going deep into the lore of the Dungeons and Dragons multiverse then I can't think of a better game for you. However, if you're looking for fun gameplay, it's better to look elsewhere because Planescape Torment isn't a fun game; it's an immersive one and it tries to tell a story that's utterly depressing but in the end, we read it because we care about the mysterious nameless one.

Those who want a simple platformer with oodles of replay value will get a lot of fun out of Bloo Kid 2 and its charming world.

I can't think of a reason why anyone would want to play Blindy. From its irritating concept to its annoying gameplay, it's one bad game.

Seeing as there are much better combat-focused PSVR games out there, playing Reborn: A Samurai Awakens simply feels like a chore.
