Premise: Absolutely brilliant. Player 1 in the VR controls Medusa, who has the ability to petrify enemies by looking at them, but can also kill Gaius in the same fashion. Player 2 with just a DS4 plays Gaius, who must protect Medusa when she needs to close her eyes and rest. A brilliant and slightly meta mechanic, as closing your eyes as Medusa does completely black out your view and make you trust your companion.
Execution: Eh. It feels like beta stage at best. Saying the controls are clunky would be a generous compliment. Which is unfortunate as the idea is fantastic. Movement is slow and blocky, invisible walls abound. Avatars are a little glitchy. Camera cuts are just... Bad.
Music: Nice, actually. A fairly simple handful of tracks that feel like a vaguely fantasy adventure. Though some cliche builds to monsters appearing. I thought I was in Jaws for a moment.
Graphics: Meh. This game wasn't going for AAA beauty, and that's okay. Polygonal cell shading here, and it looks just fine.
Length: SHORT. Even if you get several game overs during your play (as my husband and I did) we cleared the game in under an hour. Very, very short, and I didn't see much replay value beyond swapping player characters, which we then cleared the game in 30 minutes.
Final thoughts:
I really wanted to love this game, but for $20... to get a game so short and so unpolished was disappointing. I think if the team patched in a couple things to fix the clunky mechanics and add at least another four levels (to an even 10) it would be worth it.
Also... They should add more story to this! Even some actual animated cutscenes, or a picture book-esque story filler would be great. The tale of Medusa and her lover is SO original for a game, and they could do so much with it!… Expand
