Psyvariar 3 is a great shmup for newcomers, with mechanics that increase the difficulty in a smarter way and will appeal to veterans too. The Buzz system needs refinement, but nothing that ruins the great experience the game provides. It also has so many extra modes that the replay value is worthwhile.

Pokémon Champions is a battle arena for those who like Pokémon but want to skip the main RPGs and dive straight into battling. Despite missing features and existing bugs, the game fulfills its premise and has real potential to become the definitive Pokémon battling experience.

Atomic Owl markets itself as a frantic roguelite, but delivers neither; slow combat, few resources to strengthen yourself, and several performance issues on the Nintendo console. Even the non-roguelite mode was added without much thought and created a type of difficulty that is almost a softlock, requiring rebalancing and perhaps a bit more polish, especially to consider gameplay on a handheld.

The Day I Became a Bird is a short but charming narrative adventure that successfully brings a children's book to life. Unfortunately, the trailer leaves little mystery to discover while playing, and the lack of Portuguese is a serious issue. Still, overall, it offers a cozy way to spend your time.

Nitro Gen Omega aimed for a tactical mecha RPG, but ended up with a heavy machinery work simulator. The combat is good, but the amount of work outside of combat means you spend more time managing your team than actually fighting. It has potential, but lacks polish.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is a solid entry for both fans and newcomers. The new relationship and personalization options are very welcome, but the lack of sharing features and online play is a major flaw, as is the absence of Portuguese as a language option.

Pokémon Pokopia is a very fun concept of the formula that enshrined the Minecraft franchise, but with an excellent implementation of its own world, creatures and context.

Starbites has a great premise and adds fresh layers to the oversaturated turn-based RPG market. Despite a well-written story and remarkable characters, especially the protagonist, numerous technical issues keep the game from reaching the stardom it otherwise could have. The overall experience remains very fun, though.

Decline's Drop is a great action platformer that shows how an idea can emerge from a desire to want more of something. Decline's Drop is much more than something inspired by Super Smash Bros; it's a beautiful creation of art and sound, with combat that has its own hand-drawn style, all from the mind of its creator.

People of Note has a great story about a world that breathes music, but it lacked a better application of the theme in combat: it's much more challenging for the player and easier for the opponents. It's not difficult, but it loses a lot of dynamism because of this, and ends up feeling more like chess than an RPG. Despite everything, its plot and script are quite fun, as is its soundtrack.

No-Skin is a different and reflective horror game. Although it didn't quite manage to deliver that reflection, perhaps fans more deeply involved in the genre will understand. The idea of being a roguelike could have worked better if it had some kind of more positive reward, but it seems that doing so during the journey goes against the essence of No-Skin.

Super Meat Boy 3D is just a shadow of its original version; its visuals don't match the graphics, the soundtrack doesn't fit, and the controls are more frustrating than the game's difficulty itself.

Citadelum is an excellent city-building and management game set in ancient Rome, featuring an intelligent building system, clear objectives, an intuitive menu, and campaigns that simulate Rome’s historical events. A few issues, such as rough autosaving and basic battle sections, do occur, but they do not spoil the overall experience.

The Rogue: Prince of Persia is a Roguelike game with several characteristics of the franchise, but it lacks a stronger identity. In the end, it feels like a platform Roguelike that reuses assets as much as possible.

FUR Squadron Phoenix is a roguelite sequel to the indie game FUR Squadron. Heavily inspired by Star Fox, the game features spaceship mechanics with procedurally generated environments and various upgrades. It only falls short in some missing elements, such as multiplayer and checkpoints.

Damon and Baby is a dungeon crawler with a curious story and well-made gameplay. Despite its quality, it falls short in its Roguelite aspects, in addition to the co-op that doesn't work very well. Overall, it's a very creative product.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a fun game that mixes platforming and mechanics reminiscent of the Soulslike genre, in terms of combat and attacks. However, the gameplay loop relies too heavily on repetition and ends up being tedious, as does the Switch 2 port, which leaves much to be desired in several aspects.

From the series of "collections of old games re-released in modern times," Marvel Maximum Collection fits into the basic category. The package includes mediocre games that don't stand out in anything, for a high price and too basic features by current standards.

Despite the great surprise, there are some technical problems are that I consider unacceptable in the official emulation sphere.

Saint Slayer: Spear of Sacrilege is a competent game with a nice difficulty balance and curve for those who want to spend some time in a metroidvania title. The lack of content, though, lets the game become obsolete pretty soon.

The DX version of Sigma Star Saga is an excellent shmup with RPG elements, imbued with a nice and mature story that grants a dark atmosphere like those seen in Metroid Fusion and MGS Ghost Babel. Despite that, more in-game extras and a better rebalance of the experience system, since the random encounters were reduced, would make a huge difference.

With well-implemented mechanics and a gradual difficulty curve that blends combat and platforming in a challenging yet fair way, along with enjoyable exploration and a story that does, in fact, fit the series, Legacy of Kain: Ascendance is not without major flaws: besides being short, it features repetitive enemies and environments, and it does not allow players to skip dialogue when revisiting stages for further exploration. That said, it is a competent 2D game for fans of the genre and a solid addition to the beloved series.

Rushing Beat X: Return of Brawl Brothers is a great game, almost on the level of Streets of Rage 4, as a beat ’em up that stood out from others in the genre thanks to its beautiful aesthetics and deep mechanics. Sadly, it falls short due to its lack of challenge and dumb AI. Even so, if you’re looking for a beat ’em up among the titles available on Nintendo platforms, this is one of the best on the list.

Neopets: Mega Mini Games Collection is the ideal choice for those who miss Neopets, especially players who preferred the mini games over the website's other features. Virtua Fighter 5 arrived strong on Nintendo Switch 2. Accessible for newcomers thanks to its simple three-button layout and still competitive for pro players thanks to its intelligent mechanics and unique characters, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage is an amazing debut for the series on a Nintendo platform. With 19 years on the market, though, it missed the opportunity to offer more single-player content and more refined facial expressions and lip-sync animation, as on all other platforms. Even so, it remains one of the best fighting games on the market thanks to its mechanics and crossplay support.
