Shin Megami Tensei V manages to improve on a supposedly perfect combat system by introducing new options that offer a welcome extra level of complexity. The storyline is a little less convoluted than usual, and the graphics engine struggles at times, but the end result is a truly impossible-to-drop RPG and one of the most successful exponents of the genre on Switch.

Horizon Forbidden West for PC is the best adventure starring Aloy, even on not the most powerful configurations. All the magic of Guerrilla Games' game has been delivered uncompromisingly and will engage you for several hours as you explore, fight and experience a beautifully narrated and wonderfully portrayed story, accompanied by a soundtrack worthy of a top-notch film production. By forgoing some detail, which is moreover compensated by the smaller screen size, even Steam Deck – or similar consoles – owners will enjoy this excellent production.

TMNT: Shredder's Revenge is a sensational belt scroller, created with both passion and respect for the classics. The folks over at Tribute Games must really have loved their work, and it shows every second you spend playing. If you love this genre of games and are nostalgic for the old days when the Turtles dominated the arcade ecosystem, Shredder's Revenge is your game of the summer. Or maybe of a lifetime.

Once again, Arkane Studios delivers an amazing title. Prey is a huge, non-linear adventure in which the player really is the king, a simulation where everything works just fine, with a deep and inspired sci-fi story. A true masterpiece.

Season is a phenomenal work, not just the classic little pearl, but an all-round videogame experience capable of excite, tell, immerse us in the last moments of a reality that could end, change, mutate. A memorization and movement mechanism within towns, villages and glimpses of nature of disarming beauty.

It is not always perfect, but overall we are facing the best story driven FPS in recent years, crafted with love, much more freedom but still impressive in its narrative, graphical and playable level of detail.

TrackMania Turbo runs faster than ever, in the best iteration of the series. The cliche "Easy to pick up, hard to master" never made more sense: incredibly fun, challenging and addictive, the only reason you should avoid it is if you really hate racing games.

Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition for PC is an add-on that enables advanced ray tracing effects and it works only on RT-ready video cards from AMD and Nvidia. While it does look impressive on PC, it may be more interesting for next-gen console users, since it makes the most of advanced graphic capabilities of PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Awesome. A game that basically does not add anything to the platform genre, and still manages to be original and innovative by mixing all the ingredients with mastery. Despite the extreme difficulty it is never frustrating, keeping you in front of the screen for another run, and then another one and one more, while you promise yourself the next run will be the last. Recommended for both hardcore gamers aiming for the best score, and a more casual audience looking to have fun, and who don’t mind if they will only see a small part of the game. After all, how many of us have ever finished Bubble Bobble?

Stepping back into Sam's shoes on PC is the best way to (re)discover Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Far more than the new content, it's the increased technical freedom that makes the difference in the experience: the unlocked frame rate, upscaling tools, and numerous graphical options further enhance an already extremely fascinating world.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is not a soulsborne, and it’s not another Tenchu. However, the breathtaking landscapes of a war-torn Japan and a mysterious but compelling story make a perfect outline for a rhythmic, stimulating and particularly challenging gameplay.

Monolith Soft brings back to light one of Tetsuya Takahashi’s most singular JRPGs, originally buried in the depths of Wii U. The absence of the GamePad is more than compensated for by new content and improvements that refine both the pace of the battles and the narrative experience, making the adventure even more engaging. Living up to its name, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is the best way to lose yourself for countless hours among the wonders of Mira.

It took almost twenty years, but finally Planescape: Torment has a worthy successor. Torment: Tides of Numenera has a distinct and unique personality, thanks to a ruleset created by Monte Cook, the story written by the amazing trio McComb-Fargo-Avellone, and an incredible freedom to approach the game. If you have even a small amount of love for CRPGs, this is the game you don't want to miss this year.

Impressive use of proprietary Microsoft's maps and AI technologies aside, Flight Simulator is outstanding for the sheer amount of freedom we are given and how far it pushes our spirit of exploration. Sim fans will have a lot to chew on, and newcomers will love the "simcade" feeling offered by the customizable assist system. It’s also on Xbox Game Pass, so go get it.

Slay the Princess is a deep narrative adventure with the sole goal of telling a story, in a sort of big, deep What If? which succeeds in the complex task of surprising. To reach total completionism, you could even need six hours of play. It's a rich, deep and literally flawless title. A big, small and unexpected evolution for graphic adventures.

This new revival, in addition to engaging and exciting, details the talent of Tekla and Jonathan Blow. It is a new look that, in addition to involving and impressing, embellishes the journey, making it pleasant and much higher than it appears. The work is absolutely valuable, so much so that the vote below, exactly in line with the value of the work and the past, remains unchanged or almost unchanged.

A new defensive approach, a new mode and a bunch of fixes are just a few of the spearheads of NBA 2K18, a game that's very easy to learn, but very very difficult to master indeed. The best title of the series without any doubt, and one of the best sports titles published thus far.

Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection marks the coming of age for a series that, for the first time, truly manages to shake off the label of being merely a spin-off. Capcom has crafted a solid, multi-layered experience that cleverly weaves together storytelling, exploration and progression systems, finding in habitat restoration a mechanic that is as original as it is seamlessly integrated into the gameplay. The game world feels alive, rewarding curiosity and dedication, whilst the combat system refines its foundations without compromising them. Despite a few inevitable flaws — a certain simplicity in the more conventional side activities, some structural limitations in interaction with the world, and artificial intelligence that doesn’t always measure up in the later stages — the title manages to maintain a rare balance between accessibility and depth. The result is a mature, satisfying and surprisingly ambitious adventure, capable of leaving a tangible mark on the current JRPG scene.

Thirteen years after the release of the first chapter, Remedy tries to improve itself and answer the questions that fans have been holding in for so long. Alan Wake II is another excellent step toward the ultimate maturation of the Finnish dev team, capable like few others of telling fascinating and engaging stories, surrounded by solid gameplay and a first-class cast. A few minor technical flaws and some knots yet to be unraveled (perhaps in a DLC?) are the only, small moles in a production that maintains the excellent levels already achieved with Control.

The King of Fighters XIV is a huge game: fifty characters, a lot of modes and a robust, deep yet accessible combat system. It takes a while to get accustomed to the new 3D graphics (and the slight changes in the movement speed), but when you get the hang of it, you'll find yourself enjoying one of the most technical and rewarding fighting games of the last few months.

The remake of The Last of Us: Part I on PlayStation 5 brings Naughty Dog's beloved classic to the same level of technical quality as its sequel and other flagship titles of this new generation Sony, making the two experiences much more homogeneous between them, with an eye towards the improvement of AI and many options for accessibility. If you have so far missed the opportunity to immerse yourself in this apocalyptic world with Joel and Ellie, this is certainly the best time to make up for it. As long as you are willing to spend.

There’s no doubt Arboria is an interesting rogue lite, but perhaps it was been published at the wrong time, in a market really overcrowded by games of the same type. The game offers captivating graphics, the original setting and the robust combat system, as well as the interesting character skill tree have but also lacks variety, which combined with the absence of side quests tends to make every run look the same. I still enjoyed, although the long waiting times between one run and the next are a poor fit for the genre.
