It's still one of the very best 2D Mario games ever, and now it looks sharper and performs better. With that said, the new additions are fun but they did not give the experience a greater creative and qualitative edge. The multiplayer minigames and single player training challenges are welcome, as are the difficulty and assist options, but those who know the original well enough might not see this Switch 2 version as a significant improvement over the original. Especially when the original is already so good, and fairly recent.- Starbit

A Space for the Unbound is an adventure game that stands out for its absolutely gorgeous art style and memorable plot that brings in a bag of difficult themes for the player to come into contact with. As far as its gameplay goes, this is a rewarding experience featuring a great amount of puzzles, but its pacing is not what most players would expect, and often it's possible to be facing too many redundant tasks. This means that seasoned adventure game fans will feel more at ease with A Space for the Unbound, whereas a broader segment of the public might be put off by the way the game advances.- Starbit

Dynasty Warriors: Origins performs remarkably well on the Nintendo Switch 2, and brings its healthy mix of massive scale battles and straight-forward action in a sharp and competent way, with no let downs and hiccups. Fans of the Dynasty Warriors series have plenty to look forward here and can expect its hallmark features along with a very captivating plot. Other players might start feeling that the action turns repetitive after a few hours, and the lack of a multiplayer mode is hard to justify for fans and newcomers alike.- Starbit

Beacon Pines is a charming indie game that puts the player at the centre of a fairy tale adventure as it develops one chapter after another, with our acts having consequences on the game's plot. While the game's focus is not on an action-packed experience, the lovely art style and soundtrack and the way it balances between a kid-friendly look and gloomier and sinister environments makes Beacon Pines a thrill in its own league.- Starbit

The game does a great job at grabbing the player's attention and provides a fitting audiovisual environment, but its gameplay can often feel repetitive with a course of action that gets dull sometimes. For a game that makes use of so many dialogues, Oxenfree II is not always able to deliver the most interesting exchanges, and its plot development turns out to be more linear than it seems. Fans of plot-heavy games with mystery settings still have plenty to enjoy here, though.- Starbit

Because it takes such risks with its plot and delivers very engaging puzzles, this sequel successfully musters from its sources an absolutely mind-blowing ending, which more than makes up for the game's flaws that include poor quicktime events and an over-reliance on sexualized humour that quickly loses its track. Fortunately, everything comes together and works out nicely in the end.- Starbit

Longtime fans who want to relive the original experiences will be less thrilled, given that the work gone in these remakes feels less ambitious than it should, with its lacklustre visual performance and changes to the art style, while new players won't be very pleased at the relative lack of options that could bring the game up to modern standards of turn-based strategy games. Nonetheless, the very fun gameplay mechanics remain firmly in place, and they are as good as ever, which is a very good point in favour of Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp.- Starbit

This point and click adventure with a few (too few) action and puzzle moments features a marvelous writing work, a captivating and disgruntled world, an exquisite visual presentation and top voice acting. Had the production invested a bit more on its action and puzzle components, then Chicken Police would be a fantastic game but nonetheless, it's a fine work that's going to appeal to fans of adventure and mystery games.- Starbit

One of the most popular games in the Star Wars series lands on the Nintendo Switch and if this conversion of Knights of the Old Republic doesn't bring anything new from a technical and gameplay point of view, the work was masterfully done and it delivers the original game to everyone who wanted to play it on the Nintendo Switch. Those who are less versed in the Star Wars universe and unfamiliar with the original work won't feel the same appeal, as this effort is mostly targeted at long-running fans.- Starbit

This action RPG is capable enough to give the player an enjoyable and involving experience, notably thanks to its combat, and its remastered looks are also to be praised. At the same time, its actions can feel repetitive too quickly, and the camera often behaves in a frustrating way. Overall, Boundless Trails does not rise above its direct peers, but players looking for a more relaxed action RPG experience should definitely take a look.- Starbit

Super Mario 3D All-Stars is a commemorative edition and one that's mostly about nostalgia. This means that players looking for a reinvention of the three classics included herewith will not find what they're looking for, as the contents on this release consist of something as close to the originals as possible, with only a few tweaks added. This will satisfy those looking for a strictly nostalgic experience, but it will also highlight how Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine did not age perfectly. Beyond that, it's difficult to understand why there's a one-year time limit on the availability of this release, or why there's so little additional content for an anniversary edition other than the three games' soundtracks. In any case, those looking for a revival experience will be well served.- Starbit

Going Under has the format of a roguelite dungeon crawler that's been fused with a plot that satirizes contemporary capitalism and the corporate world, and it works delightfully. Citizen Sleeper marks an unusual arrival on the Nintendo Switch of an RPG inspired by board games, and it does a very good job at creating a somber and dystopian atmosphere with matching audiovisual qualities, while delivering enveloping parallel plot lines. This new chapter features the best combat ever seen in the Fire Emblem series, as well as a new mechanic that sets up a link between characters of different games and their abilities, which is extraordinary. At the same time, Engage features the least interesting plot in the series, as well as many unnecessary dialogues that feel like a chore to go through. With an exquisite visual background, Engage's positive aspects should be more than enough to appeal to those who want to focus on the combat and interactions and who are willing to put the plot in the backseat of the experience.- Starbit

Lair of the Clockwork God sets a rather ambitious purpose for itself: to successfully merge platforming and point and click mechanics and wrap them up in a funny and enjoyable package with its own brand of humour. Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake does a good job at preserving the original's unsettling atmosphere and the emotional dimensions of the plot. Like a master of its own craft, this game knows how to deliver horror that is not shoved on the player's face but rather creeps up slowly and cleverly manipulates the rawest of human emotions. If Fatal Frame II's mechanics have aged fine, including the Camera Obscura, some performance issues need fixing to improve the experience. While not a game for everyone, horror fans with a taste for psychological horror will find themsleves enraptured by this remake.- Starbit

Immortals Fenyx Rising is ambitious and putting this game on a Nintendo Switch is a feat, in a certain way. However, the game fails to impress at the several facets it puts up - there's plenty of content, but it gets repetitive soon; the game world is vast, but the enemies' variety is too short; the combat is engaging, but quickly becomes too simplistic. On top of that, the game is clearly affected by performance issues on the Nintendo Switch. Rogue Heroes: Ruins of Tasos draws inspiration from some groundbreaking references when it comes to adventure games, and adds to them an extra level of challenge with a roguelite component. This story-led adventure game more than earns its credit for its beautiful art style and exquisite soundtrack. The plot is the main driver and it's a marvel to find out more about the game's tragic but heartwarming background story. Its combat is less impressive, though, and it feels repetitive soon enough, especially as we expand Kena's capacities, and at some specific points there seems to be a performance issue with regards to the graphics. Nonetheless, the game's narrative dimension, its audiovisual world and the exploration and search for collectibles more than help Kena: Bridge of Spirits merit its place on the Nintendo Switch 2 catalogue.- Starbit

Mary Skelter Finale is the ultimate ending to the series' story line. It doesn't break with the formula but rather sticks to its guns, its main addition is breaking the exploration between groups of characters who will help each other escape from each dungeon. This has its advantages, insofar as it broadens the game's perspectives, but also its disadvantages in the form of a slower, somewhat less compelling game pace. Donkey Kong Country Returns HD is a fitting remaster of a game (or rather, of a pair of games) that has more than earned its place in the Donkey Kong Country series. A lovely audiovisual experience, levels with the distinct DK flair - including the barrels, the mine carts, Rambi, and the crazy enemies - and a gameplay packed with trial and error and collectibles, never too harsh but not a walk in the park either, this is an easy recommendation for players less versed in the original game. Road 96 brings an original approach to adventure games by putting its experience on the road and structured along episodes and vignettes as the characters attempt to flee the rule of an authoritarian despot. The game features an array of interesting characters and a marvelous art style, but it's also harmed by unsolved issues, as well as by development choices. This is both its most positive and negative trait at the same time - the experience at hand is relaxing and welcoming, but the lack of any kind of challenge and strategy makes this a limited effort. Those only looking for the calm side of laying down buildings and getting points without any further challenge will find a great companion and for a good price too, but anyone looking for something deeper will quickly grow tired.- Starbit

The action packed titles bring with them a great length of gameplay, as well as visible improvements between them. Even though the adaptation is not perfect and there are some visual choices which look questionable, any fan who wants to pick these games again or to discover them for the first time will find a great package in The Ezio Collection, which also includes two short films.- Starbit

Chaos;Head Noah / Chaos;Child Double Pack is a long title but one that encapsulates an enveloping experience delivering two stories of suspense and mystery. Its most pressing issue is the translation, especially with regards to Chaos;Head Noah where many of the double entendres get lost, but nonetheless both games represent a very engaging effort with a good amount of disturbing moments that will grab the players' attention.- Starbit

Mr. Run and Jump gives players looking for a pure platforming challenge a real test of their skill. Its incrementally difficult levels that join a thousand deadly features to a thousand deadly enemies will require the sharpest and most responsive trial-and-error responses from anyone who dares to take it on. So much so that even with its assistance features, Mr. Run and Jump will leave out players less keen on such extreme challenges.- Starbit

Moero Crystal H may not be a classic dungeon crawler but that doesn't keep it from featuring a rich, varied environment with engaging combats, plenty of content and many characters to explore. At the same time, some of the game's elements definitely feel too risqué for some members of the audience and not everyone might feel comfortable with playing this, especially in front of others. Players who can look beyond those unusual features will find something that's worth exploring for many hours.- Starbit

Fate/Samurai Remnant is an action RPG with Musou elements that acts as a welcome introduction to the Fates universe and brings a vast, rich world to explore. Accessible controls and a well implemented combat system are two of the game's main highlights, though performance issues and long loading times make the experience less breezy than it should be. All in all, Fate/Samurai Remnant is a captivating and addictive experience for fans of the genre and for those looking forward to get into the Fates universe.- Starbit

Thanks to its captivating plot around a disturbing series of murders, a frequently light-hearted humour completely at odds with the circumstances, and a fabulous visual presentation and art style, The Smiling Man makes a name for itself when it comes to a visual novel with a point & click adventure gameplay. At certain moments, however, it would be good for everyone if the game could rely less on trial-and-error and more on stimulating the player's detective instincts, lest the experience becomes longer for the wrong reasons.- Starbit

The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters may not create the most terrifying environment ever seen in a game but it does a very good job with its art style and at providing a fun experience. The gameplay mechanics could use a bit more variety, as they end up feeling rather repetitive and cliché but there's plenty of good elements here to explore and if there is a follow-up to this game, the potential to do something more ambitious is immense.- Starbit

Monster Sanctuary blends a Metroidvania game with monster capture elements, and it does a great job at bringing those worlds together. With its enormous amount of content and a fun, well-designed sense of progression, Monster Sanctuary does not stand out as brilliantly when it comes to its exploration, which feels rather simplistic, but there are plenty of elements here to make it worthy for everyone who enjoys any of both genres represented.- Starbit

Summer Catchers resembles an endless runner, except this one is based on a soapbox car. Its concept is as simple as possible, and the game's pleasant pixel art style is a charm to look at. Where Summer Catchers doesn't succeed is in delivering an experience that rewards players for their skills, as nearly every success here is a matter of sheer luck, and the random tracks aren't always adequate for the gameplay on offer.- Starbit

Featuring a gameplay experience that can feel both rather repetitive but also very rewarding, this sombre work also gives the player some rays of light in the form of looking after a child. So, and despite some repetitiveness and leaving some of the plot points open, Void Terrarium is definitely something that fans of Roguelikes should try.- Starbit

The main game mechanic, with emphasis on combat and management rather than on plot, is definitely a point in its favour, as is its wide and varied game world. Where Battle Brothers falls short of expectations lies mostly on how the game was adapted, namely its control system, which is difficult to get used to on the Switch. Its difficulty level also feels unbalanced at moments, and its player interface feels like it doesn't fit with the game. Players able to look beyond these shortcomings will find a great tactical RPG challenge, but others will feel put off by those elements where Battle Brothers fails to deliver a consistent experience.- Starbit

The dialogues and characters are fun, and the visual environment displays great quality and an art style that stands out for the best reasons. Its interactivity is nearly non-existent, though, and the few occasions where the player can make choices they amount to no consequence on the plot development whatsoever.- Starbit

With a varied and high quality musical selection based on Rock and Metal, the game's audiovisual component is worthy of praise. As for its gameplay, it can get a bit confusing at moments when there are too many things on the screen simultaneously, and a plot that feels too bland. Still, Double Kick Heroes can be a fun experience, especially for those who are particularly keen on Rock and Metal music.- Starbit

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is the premiere of this reboot of the Tomb Raider series on a Nintendo platform, and it does so in great style. The game features a very enveloping cinematic quality, and its storytelling features will keep players captivated from the beginning to the end, thanks to its balance between exploration, puzzle solving and frantic combat, while behaving very well on the technical performance side. Its puzzles can feel somewhat simplistic, however, and this version for both Nintendo Switch systems clearly required a graphical compromise that is difficult to understand on the Switch 2.- Starbit

SD Gundam Battle Alliance is a great example of fan service and one which does a very good job at celebrating the Gundam series for its long-running fans. If this group will be delighted at the huge number of robots to unlock and enjoyable combat, those less versed are more likely to see the game's flaws with regards to repetitive missions and a rather lacklustre plot. With all things considered, SD Gundam Battle Alliance is an action RPG that mostly aims for the Gundam fans group rather than for a general audience.- Starbit

Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water is a remaster that does a lot of things right, and which shows that the series still has the ability to deliver a good amount of frights. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl bring the fourth generation of the Pokémon series to the Nintendo Switch and they might perhaps take this job too seriously, in the sense that these remakes demonstrate a lack of creative freedoms taken in the conversion process. While many of the elements that made the original games popular are still here, it would have been very positive to take a few steps forward to make the experience more in line with contemporary standards. As it is, it's still a great game, and one that fans will appreciate for being able to enjoy in a new, more immersive format.- Starbit

Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny brings the series to a new threshold - and if that can be said for the level of absurdity in the game, it's better applied to the characters' transition from 2D sprites to 3D models. The combat remains largely the same and very competent but while the performance isn't stellar and players have the option to scale down the visual quality in exchange for a smoother experience, it's safe to say this sixth chapter will be very much appreciated by long-running fans of the Disgaea series.- Starbit

Monster Prom XXL is a fun and creative dating sim, a kind of game that's not very common on the Nintendo Switch catalogue. With plenty of content to unlock, the included DLC, the large amount of possible game endings and humour, Monster Prom XXL is not the most in-depth experience available and feels rather drab when played solo but as a multiplayer experience, this is a good and funny alternative to many games out there.- Starbit

As far as control and action go, this chapter of Mario Strikers works very well and it knows how to introduce players to its mechanics. The game disappoints when it comes to its content, however, as it feels like it's been cut short with regards to characters and game modes. On top of that, while the online multiplayer experience is marvelous, despite the lack of some functionalities, the single player experience is rather limited in its scope and its appeal ends too quickly.- Starbit

Casting cinematic realism aside, this pixellated 2D non-stop shooting fest is not for those who can't take on a challenge but players who like to be pushed to the edge will be duly rewarded by its fast-paced, exhilarating gameplay. Prinny Presents NIS Classics Volume 1: Phantom Brave / Soul Nomad is a compilation that brings back two tactical RPGs from the 2000s that deserved to be presented to a wider audience.
