    Chaos Code: New Sign of Catastrophe is an average fighting game. Although the gameplay isn’t bad, there are too many other underlying issues that keep me from recommending this title. Try another fighter instead.

    Youni is a very short and unfortunately lackluster experience. Once you’ve played the first few levels, you have essentially seen it all. Whilst some of the jump scares are great and some moments are very eerie, there isn’t much else to keep you invested or wanting to play. The poor visuals impact the smoothness of the gameplay, causing frustration on top of the slow pacing.

    As a concept, Ashwalkers is fascinating, mixing the survival genre with a visual novel. The world created in Ashwalkers is one of hope surrounded by despair, but the execution lacks the polish to make this one a game that I could suggest. The technical issues alone should have been caught before the release. But even with that aside, the lack of character development and a risk and reward system makes for a very dull experience.

    The 32-bit generation is one that I feel more indies should look toward after a plethora of 8-bit and 16-bit inspired titles have already dominated the scene. But Back in 1995 is too visually distracting, too slow, and too short for its $9.99 price. Nonetheless, the idea here is sound. With a better camera, a bit more speed, some expanded gameplay, and less negligence towards full-on emulation, a future installment could provide a nice retro fix.

    The Mims Beginning offers a humorous take on the god-like genre through Minions-esque characters, but a shallow story, rough graphics and performance, and basic strategy gameplay drag this title down through the depths of space.

    Epic Clicker Journey is a game that tries to mesh RPG elements with the clicker genre. While it’s fun in short bursts, there’s not enough to hold your attention for long. Its repetitiveness coupled with design issues make this one a game to avoid unless you’re a huge clicker fan.

    This exploration platformer pulls off the essentials, but the amount of time spent backtracking and grinding for upgrades feels much more wasteful rather than satisfying. Micetopia wound up slightly disappointing, but I’ve seen enough positives that I have some optimism for the studio’s next release.

    While Double Switch – 25th Anniversary Edition offers several improvements, the core game was never that good to start with. Locking bonus content is a mistake and, unlike its predecessor, there’s no real history to fall back on. Clearly one for existing fans only, who probably sprung for the physical release before it sold out.

    I certainly don’t mind a somewhat easy game, but I need a bit of challenge to hold my attention. After several hours, I think I’ve seen enough of Blacksmith of the Sand Kingdom for the time being. Perhaps it improves, but it should’ve put its best foot forward much earlier. The battles are so simple that the efforts at depth are lost, making crafting less necessary and rewarding.

    DRAGON BALL: THE BREAKERS incorporates a niche but successful formula into a similarly successful franchise, which should be a match made in heaven. However, due to graphical and technical issues paired with the unbalanced gameplay and unclear progression and menus, it results in a bit of a mess of a game. It was worth a shot, but I feel as though Dragon Ball should stick to what it knows best.

    The truth is, I simply can’t recommend The Bradwell Conspiracy in its present state. It just misses the mark in too many areas. With some fine-tuning and polish, its technical shortcomings could eventually be overcome, in which case it’ll be ready for primetime. But playing it on the Nintendo Switch now has me reaching for a bottle of ibuprofen.

    While I very much appreciate the efforts all the game developers out there put in to entertain us, Demolish and Build falls flat. You get to drive bulldozers and cranes and the like, but it’s a lot of work with only a little fun.

    While I like the intent that Feather brings to the table, its ideas are implemented in a subpar fashion. This is a proof of concept, whose asking price doesn’t reflect its current modest state. I can’t recommend it unless a sizable update arrives to unlock its potential.

    Just a Phrase by POWGI is a no-frills game that would’ve worked much better as part of a collection than a standalone release. It misses the mark in several key ways. I expected better than a quick game beaten with minimal effort.

    There isn’t too much to say about Robo Wars. I genuinely appreciate the desire to create a simplistic game that is easy to understand and control. The problem is that it gives the game very little depth and provides little replay value. Each of the 10 stages look identical and its simplicity in gameplay ultimately makes you feel bored after a short while. It’s not a bad game, but it’s one that I likely won’t remember anytime soon. It unfortunately falls in that unmemorable category, a game I’ll see in the eShop deals page and say “oh yeah I think I played that game.“ For now, It’s best that you steer clear of Robo Wars.

    Despite admirable claims to be “designed with the busy gamer in mind” the unfortunate irony is that Little Town Hero’s battles are so tediously time-consuming. Combined with their especially repetitive nature, and tendency to rely on “luck”, this RPG is a snooze fest. I mean that literally – I almost dozed off I was so bored.

    Regina & Mac World is heavily inspired by platforming greats of the past, yet falls short on delivering the fun homage it aims to provide. It plays more like a demo, with a poorly designed platforming experience and clumsy controls. I am hopeful of an improved version in the future but, for now, this is sadly one to avoid.

    If you are really into the Blade Runner franchise and can put up with the shortcomings, I suppose you can get some enjoyment from Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition. Everyone else should take a pass on this remastered adventure game. Maybe if the studio comes out with a “More Enhanced” edition, with plenty more fixes in place, it may be worth another look.

    Brightstone Mysteries: Paranormal Hotel offers a fun premise for puzzle/adventure fans, but it fails to follow through it nearly every regard. The graphics, the puzzles, the story, and even the docked-mode controls combine to make this a crime not worth solving.

    Although it’s great to see new games released for the 3DS (and with a good implementation of the 3D effect that even Nintendo eventually abandoned), Silver Falls: 3 Down Stars isn’t worth dusting off your old portable. It’s effectively creepy, but it’s also buggy, drab, and a general slog. However, it leaves me with hope that the developers will be able to put it all together in future games.

    Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted’s port to the Nintendo Switch has proven to be a difficult one. The slippery controls render the game difficult to play, but I don’t consider this a hit against the franchise. FNAF will continue to be a fan favorite, and I’m sure more games are planned for the future.

    I really wanted to enjoy Attack of the Toy Tanks. But I found the AI poor, something the repetitive level design only emphasized, leading to tedium. Meanwhile, the multiplayer is disappointing in its limitations. Replay incentive is low, due to strict rating time limits, and the fact that you don’t seem to unlock upgrades or anything else.

    Planet Quiz: Learn & Discover is aimed at a specific audience and is aware that it’s not going to be topping many peoples wishlist, but if you have a love for all things Earth, animals, and culture, I’m sure you’d be able to have a fairly decent, albeit short, time with this. That said, if you are passionate about those subjects, it’s likely that this may not be very challenging at all, and just confirm what you know. Its three quiz modes are the same and do little outside of this to keep gameplay fresh and exciting after a short burst of rounds.

    The foundation is here, but, like The Simpson’s orphanage, it needs more walls – “three is not enough.” With subpar controls, music missing the mark, and a disappointing map, Two Parsecs From Earth’s great visual style remains, but it’s not enough to keep me playing.

    Any potential Wartales displays as an outlaw fantasy RPG is negated by frequent crashes. There’s fun to be had with party management and a robust turn-based combat system, but until the stability issues are addressed, the game’s not worth the frequent backtracking previous save points.

    I can’t really give Aztech Forgotten Gods a recommendation. What looked like a grand action adventure with interesting storytelling, exotic imagery, and cool gadgets, turned into a blancmange—several ingredients, but flavorless and unsatisfying. It could be worth the price-tag if it gets cleaned up and organized, but I wouldn’t buy it at this point.

    Paradise Marsh seems less concerned about being an “adventure” and more about delivering feelings. Some will no doubt appreciate its efforts. Others, like me, might feel it needs to work harder at providing what’s advertised. I feel bad knocking a solo dev’s first release, but I sincerely enjoyed little of my short time with this game, same as our contributor with whom I sought a second opinion. The visual and gameplay repetition combine with other shortcomings to make a forgettable title. Next time.

    I give Dragon Quest a point as a piece of video game history, a point for the music, another for its DNA in Fortune Street, and one more because I’m feeling charitable. But beyond that, I just think this is a subpar port of a dated game, especially with no nostalgic value attached to it. It’s definitely not for me. With the graphical issues, I’m not even sure it’s for fans either.

    Honestly, for as many good ported games there are, there’s just as many bad – and Where Angels Cry: Tears of the Fallen Collector’s Edition is a perfect example. With achievements/collectibles that can be earned through playing the game casually, eliminating any possible replay incentive, and the elements of an awful story, it is really difficult for me to justify anyone picking this game up. Unless you really like medieval Europe and poorly-made adventure games, there’s no real reason to pick up this game.

    I’m not sure who Little Shopping is for. Sure, there’s bright colors and even numbers to challenge young minds, but I’m positive a simple game of Tetris would be more satisfying and more stimulating than this barebones virtual shopping game. It’s hard to recommend this game. As a former kid who was occasionally settled with poor titles, I can only say firmly: Kids deserve better.

    While there is fun to be had with Breakout Recharged, I really can’t suggest you go out and buy it at lunch. At $10 the game is simply overpriced and not worth your time. When the game is finally on sale, that would be the best time to experience this version of Breakout. Otherwise there’s a really good Atari Flashback Collection on Switch, which is a much better investment to enjoy these classic games.

    Playing Fledgling Heroes, it’s hard to shake the feeling that I haven’t somehow time-traveled to the past. It feels like the sort of game I might’ve enjoyed reviewing seven years ago as a mobile port to the 3DS or Wii U eShop. Except it’s 2020, and this is an original game on the Switch. Runners have come a long way, and players expect more from the genre’s console counterparts.

    Unless recently divorced and/or identifying as non-binary, I have a hard time envisioning that many will get $19.99 worth of fun here. Solo, while having its heart in the right place, would have been better off as a visual novel.     While I can appreciate the wonderful gameplay and can truly be impressed by the fact the game was made by one person, it’s simply not enough of an experience to justify a purchase. The game’s nonsensical story is extremely hard to follow to the point where I just stopped caring. It might be impressive looking, but frequent glitches, enemy desponds, and broken checkpoints frustrate the experience. It’s also over way too soon. Maybe if it goes on sale and more of the major glitches are fixed, then I would say try it out if you’re interested in first-person shooters and action games. For everyone else, it might be best to leave Bright Memory Infinite alone.

    ESport Manager wasn’t what I was hoping for. I get that enthusiasts are probably the game’s target, but wouldn’t a measure of more accessibility to widen the potential audience be a good thing? I even have doubts that Esports aficionados will find this game particularly good, given the inferior accessibility. While the game packs a fair amount, the user interface and complete lack of touch screen support make it feel more like work, seriously weighing down the promise for something addictive. The idea has potential, but it needs to be handled with more care.

    Project Winter is a great game concept that you can clearly see how the game is supposed to work. Yet the game was ruined by bad lobbies and awful players. While this is not the game’s fault on its own but rather its player based Project Winter is a game that can’t really be recommend you go out and purchase, unless you have four other friends that want to play with you. As a solo experience, there are much more enjoyable multiplayer games you can jump into on Nintendo Switch.

    Townscaper offers little to keep players engaged and seemingly never will. I have to call it what it is, an early access Steam experiment trying to pass itself off as a full-fledged Switch release. Since the developer admits no DLC’s on the horizon to address expected features that are MIA, this incomplete title’s one to skip, even at just $5.99.

    Trash Sailors has its fun moments and extremely unique art style to help visually stand out. Plus, like every co-op game in this genre, it can be quite hilarious to play with friends as chaos ensues and everyone is yelling at each other to do tasks. Yet a key gameplay aspect of Trash Sailors is completely broken. The combat doesn’t work and isn’t fun, despite it being so integral to the gameplay. Add the fact that it’s unplayable in single player mode and you’ve got a very mixed experience that may not be worth your time. Until these issues get fixed and combat is completely overhauled, Trash Sailors may be more trash than treasure. Especially when much better co-op experiences exist on the Nintendo Switch.

    Bookbound Brigade had the potential to be a good or even great game. Unfortunately, it fell victim to being dull and obnoxiously difficult. If the new take on the Metroidvania genre is being as boring and frustrating as possible then Bookbound Brigade met it’s goal. I would suggest saving your money to buy the book of the character you find the least interesting. Reading it would probably be more enjoyable than playing this game.

    Metal Slug Attack Reloaded is a massive disappointment. The bones of a fun game are there, but unfortunately, it’s dragged down by brutal spikes in difficulty, creating a game that verges on unplayable and certainly unenjoyable.

    My time spent with Gun Crazy wasn’t terrible; it also wasn’t anything special. It felt like a half-baked idea that sacrificed length for difficulty. The game in its current state is hard to recommend, especially at the asking price of $4.99.

    Bus Driver Simulator deserves some appreciation for its attention to detail, but the details are pretty boring in this case. It doesn’t help that the gameplay is cumbersome and glitchy, and the visuals are dated and drab. Unless you’re really into slow drives through PS2-era depictions of European cities, take the Desert Bus instead. At least then it’s for charity.

    Hammerwatch II’s graphics and world design are amazing, and the soundtrack fits super well into each area. The gameplay is still a little frustrating, though. And with the very real chance of losing all of your progress, I wouldn’t say it’s worth it. It’s sad to see such a well-designed game ruined by such fatal bugs.

    Space Tail comes across as an forgettably mediocre game. While its art direction and strong story start seem to lead to a potential great adventure, the game mechanics you use are fundamentally broken or just boring. This makes the entire experience feel dragged out and not fun. It’s a game that I played for this review and ultimately will never go back to. While it is by no means a bad game, Space Tail is a game I can’t recommend for people. There are plenty of better games on Nintendo Switch for you to check out.

    Splatter – Zombiecalypse Now is a wild, over-the-top, trigger-happy shooter where your ZR button will be worn out if you stick with it for more than a few levels – and well done if you do! Don’t get me wrong, the visuals are gory and chaotic, but they clash with the dark, gritty setting and zoomed out top-down view, resulting in a pretty messy and ‘gets old pretty quickly’ experience.

    Despite many positive elements that Dodo Peak has to make it satisfying, I must admit that I genuinely didn’t have much fun playing it. It’s challenging, but not in a way that held my interest beyond a few minutes at a time. Further, the familiar three-star setup is weakened by an emphasis on speed and random enemy placement. This Dodo might not take flight on the Nintendo Switch.

    If you want to be able to play a fully-licensed snooker game, anywhere and at any time on your Nintendo Switch then this would be a suitable option, albeit a boring one. If you aren’t in need of portable snooker-gameplay, then you are probably better off going to your local bowling alley and/or sports bar.

    Reed 2 is a simple platformer with cheap ways to die and similar mechanics from the first game. For a short game of 52 small levels, it can take a while.

    "Ultimate” in terms of content and options but not in enjoyment, Ultimate Racing 2D 2 makes a poor first impression and fails to recover. If it looks interesting to you, I’d suggest its predecessor for half the price. This game has more to it, but it’s a case where less would’ve been more. I hope the devs take a prolonged pitstop before the third entry.

    Excalibur Games has serious work ahead if they want to make Tracks – Toybox Edition a good game for the Nintendo Switch, especially if targeting whole families. Having a proper tutorial, improved UI, and touch screen support are some of the fundamentals they should revisit.

    35MM is a messy blend of multiple genres lacking any clear definition or direction. The tense atmosphere that it builds isn’t enough to keep you invested and definitely needs more depth in its gameplay, story, and performance. This is a real shame, as there is clear potential for this to be far better than what we have received.

    Rough Justice ‘84 has a great concept and ’80s setting. Unfortunately, it’s executed poorly on the Switch. Despite the cool soundtrack, there are other audio issues. The idea of solving cases might be a fun concept, but this is hard to recommend. The poor controls and user interface make this one to avoid.

    Ramp Car Jumping is a physics-based puzzler that lacks creativity and longevity. It provides a couple hours of silly fun for one or two players on the Nintendo Switch, but it never feels like more than a free-to-play mobile title.

    The Suicide of Rachel Foster is well constructed when it comes to design and mechanics, but is let down if you stop to examine the plot for a moment. The deeper into the game you get, the more it feels like it’s trying to shock rather than effectively engage with serious topics.

    Given my fondness for hidden object adventures, I found a smidge of entertainment with The Last Days’ story elements. It’s a bit of a bush-league release overall, though, and the port has some evident issues. So, unless it gets a patch, I struggle to recommend to all but big genre enthusiasts.

    Forgotten Hill Disillusion loses itself trying to be a challenging click-and-point puzzle game. While some of the puzzles are well-designed, the ones that don’t provide enough context outweigh the better riddles and thus make for a frustrating experience. The game does offer a help option, but often it feels like you have to rely on the help all too often to figure out the solution.

    I can’t say Incredible Mandy is a bad game per se, but it is underwhelming and less than the sum of its parts. On sale, this might be an okay title for those who can embrace its mechanics and pacing. But I didn’t enjoy most of its puzzles, and puzzles are its main offering.
