Freaking amazing!

Simply put, Grand Theft Auto III is the best game to be released in the past two years. Possibly the best to be released in the past ten.

The sound effects are horrible because they replaced a lot of Arcade sound effects with lower sampled and wimpy sounding effects. This is really the only downfall of this game, aside from the frame dropping.

Picture the most complete racer you could ever imagine, now double it. Gran Turismo is definitely the best racing game ever.

Nearly everything in the game is interactive the way it would be in the real world whether it’s melting ice cubes to leaking flour bags. The detail is staggering.

It’s graphics notwithstanding, this is THE PS2 title XBox and GameCube loyalists will jealously write angrily about to Santa in their Christmas letters.

I cannot say that I have ever played a driving game that has challenged me and given me more feelings of reward for my hard-earned efforts than "Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec."

Madden 2003 is the best overall football game ever made, period...Denying it the perfect score it so richly deserves just because "NFL 2K3" comes soooo close to unseating it would be a crime.

Definitely a solid game and the best in the series, just a tiring genre that is no longer as exciting as it once was.

The best action adventure game on the planet.

New modes, better AI and less of the floaty artificial feeling from 2001 makes Madden 2002 a football game for the ages. It's going to be hard for anyone to make a better pigskin game than this.

But I would pledge my undying allegiance to anyone responsible for a beautiful work of art such as this.

The most complete and polished piece of football software I've ever spun (!) on my PS2.

A Solid story, inventive gameplay mechanisms, both third and first person views, a slew of spy equipment, awesome weapons, unique emotional plot and stealth make MGS one of PlayStation's greatest games ever.

Do you need more proof of NCAA Football 2004’s superiority? Besides being the only version of the game to support online gameplay and having a ton of new teams/camera/angles/fight songs/sound effects added, how about the absence this season of last year’s pretenders-to-the-throne from Sega and Sony?

Tight control, a fantastic training mode that really helps anyone learn, original modes like Kumite and just awesome AI make for one of the best fighters in years.

The track designs are really what make this game worth playing. It reminds me of "Rush 2049" on crack with little details such as close calls and drifting that make the game a joy to watch.

Without it your PlayStation is naked.

SSX is indeed BIG (thank you very much!), and one of the few games on PlayStation 2 worth its asking price in addictive, fun replayability.

The PS2 version’s graphics are surprisingly close to its XBox/GameCube counterparts, and the licensed soundtrack apes Rockstar’s "Grand Theft Auto" interface in its depth and variety.

As of right now (9/10/2002) there isn’t a better-playing and more rewarding NFL football videogame experience on the console market than this one, on or off the net. “Madden” is soaked in more gravy (AKA gameplay modes), but I’d take a stab of NFL 2K3’s stylish ESPN-soaked raw meat anyday, anytime, anywhere.

Easily the best Soccer game out there for any platform and even moreso one of the BEST sports games on the market. This is "FOOTBALL" the way it's meant to be.

Not to be missed.

The best fighting game ever made, for PS2 or any other system... "Soul Calibur II" comes close (and surpasses it in the minds of those that don't know any better), but VF4: Evolution is interactive one-on-one brawling at its purest and most visually alluring peak.

What it lacks in licenses and features (no online play!) WE7I more than compensates for with the most realistic, intense, attractive and all-around addicting soccer game to ever appear on PS2.

The fighters move so fludily that one almost feels as if they are being helped from the onscreen character.

NHL 2002 has finally unseated "NHL '94" as the only hockey game I would actually fight with other players over a controller in an eight-man multiplayer match.

Perhaps it's the fine tuning of the controls, or the training section that changed my mind. Whatever it was, I totally am in love with EA Big's newest title.

Sands of time you collect can actually allow you to "rewind" the level, changing the mistake you made. As unbelievable as this may sound, it doesn't make the game too easy because the balance between being able to use it is well done.

A higher recommendation than "Vagrant Story" we can only give to "Chrono Cross", but coming second behind that masterpiece is like being the second child of a wealthy family: your older brother/sister will likely inherit the business, but you're guaranteed a sweet and cushy life.

Neversoft has captured the feeling of the sport as it has never been before. Dirty, gritty and real. You can almost feel the scraped knees.

Sure Blitzball and the Upgrade system irk me a bit but the absolute perfect presentation and plot are worth these minor aggravations. This is the first MUST HAVE RPG on the PS2.

This is *the* one game you must buy or otherwise youll never see the true power of the PlayStation.

What makes this game so great is that it uses a lot of cues from real life events to create believable and exciting missions... If there ever was a crowning jewel in first person shooters on the PlayStation, this is it.

The complete and total lack of a buddy list in any shape or form, simply reinforces how amazing this year's Madden is in that respect. Lobbies are simple to navigate, but without a list to assist you, tracking down your friends is essentially an impossible task.

Absolutely the most fun you can have playing by yourself...For multiplayer look at Sega's excellent "NFL 2K1."

This is crack cocaine, lottery tickets, booze, coffee and your-Robert Downey Jr.-consumed-drug-of-choice addiction of choice, all squeezed into a playable PS2 platforming experience that runs/talk/looks like a 2.5D duck.

Clearly the best space shooter ever.

No game is perfect, but I'll be damned if Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal isn't close as can be. There's something in here for everyone to enjoy, and at a mere $40 pricepoint, it's worth every penny.

The shortness of the experience, reliance on a barely-improved gameplay formula, melodramatic storyline twists and stepped-up quality of its competitors (particularly Sam Fisher's "Splinter Cell" games from Ubi Soft) prevent us from scoring Snake Eater higher.

One of the rare, few 32-bit games that still impresses, still retains magic after being beaten, and still begs for one last shot at exploring all its secrets and milking all its three-dimensional worth.

Takes better advantage of the PS2 than "Tekken Tag Tournament", IMHO, with incredible physics, realistic fighters and fast action not seen in any other modern brawler.

Aside from the story this is Crystal D's finest moment with a title that should make Lara Croft seems like yesterday's news.

Easily the best Crash game yet and possibly the greatest platforming title on the PSX yet. Although not as long as the previous games it provides the most bang for the buck!

Ico isn’t a new type of game but rather one taken to near perfection. Rarely does a game gel like this and it’s simply the work of a master.

From reasonably good-looking graphics to kick-ass sounds (dig those funky KISS tunes!) and more gameplay modes (online as well as off) than most players will know what to do with, the PS2 version of THUG is the most complete extreme sports title ever made for any system EVER.

A refreshing twist on one of the oldest genres.

This is easily the sleeper hit of the year with action that rivals the highest grossing action flicks. Mel Gibson watch out!

Upgrades to every key area of the gameplay design resulting in a near-flawless title. A real showpiece and a stellar example of what the PS2 is capable of in the hands of talented developers.

With better graphics, deeper gameplay, a polished ESPN interface to die for and an outrageously low price ESPN NFL 2K5 offers the most bang for your gaming dollar, period.

One of the deepest sports games period. With online play, which I admit is not quite as exciting as football or hockey, an insanely deep franchise mode, and solid graphics and sound, it seems that this is the choice for fans of the long, deep experience of baseball.

Unless you have a personal connection with any of its 28 songs though, this DDR is best left for gamers that don’t know any better. [12/31/02]

Moving from one area to the next is the smoothest I have ever seen in any game. From a technical standpoint, this is truly revolutionary.

The NFL has always been my game of choice but NCAA Football 2002 has caught my heart. It's not perfect but it's the most fun I've had with noname players in years.

WWF Smackdown 2 know's its role and that is the best wrestler on the PSX.

Whether it be blasting gun-toting monkeys or zombified idiots, Timesplitters 2 has awesome AI. I just cannot say enough about how well done the enemies are in the game.

Every now and then, a truly great game comes out. Viewtiful Joe isn't quite one of them, but it does a nice job of setting the stage for things to come (like the sequel, duh).

It's a testament to the addictive gameplay and perfect control of Colin McRae Rally 2.0 that, despite its dated graphics and average-at-best sounds, it still manages to become the best rally racer on PSX.

The stunning look of the game is just about the most beautiful thing we have ever seen.

This could very well be the final PS "Madden" and that's ok because it's the best!

The licensed rap music has got to go for "Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005," please! Other than this licensing snafu by EA’s music department the 2004 edition of the prettiest, fun, complete (online play rules!) and user-friendly golf sim on the face of the planet is well worth the $50.

Bigger, faster, more in depth and wholly better than XL but it remains largely the same despite additional gameplay modes, tracks etc.

Everything that NHL 2003 does “NHL 2K3” can perform just as well, except for the fancy presentation aspects that EA Sports has polished to near-perfection (and which Sega Sports is still learning to implement properly).

A true blast from the past that earns classic status in this reviewers eyes. Please do yourself a favor and live or relive some of the finest moments in videogame history.

From its robust Franchise mode to its peerless graphics engine, and from the intimidating control options (I’m still finding new stuff to do as I write this!) to its mostly lag-free online playability, NBA 2K3 redefines and expands the genre to new heights.

Though its graphics aren't as pretty as "Burnout 2's," HP2 delivers the goods: intense races, cool real-life cars being driven at law-breaking speeds, hundreds of virtual miles of terrain over which to race, a pumping soundtrack.

If you like games that tell stories, this is one of the best yet for the PS2. It’s shocking that it’s also one of the best shooting / action games as well.

This is an above-average port that tries to compensate for its reduced difficulty and average visuals with minor improvements (new level, binoculars, etc.) that have dumbed-down the XBox version’s stealth-reliant gameplay a little bit.

The sequel elevates what was so great about the first one to a complete new level of terror.

The emphasis on improved graphics, realism and vehicle/track variety come at the expense of a missing online component, better AI for the CPU drones and the return of the dreaded license tests. The good overwhelmingly outweighs GT4’s handful of tolerable negatives though.

Still shots don’t do justice to its clean interface and pretty graphics justice; Lumines has to be seen, played and heard to be fully appreciated.

With solid puzzles, a great story, creepy settings, the most disgusting monsters ever and puzzles that simply rock, Silent Hill 2 has gained my respect in the survival horror genre.

The best part about 2K2 is without a doubt it’s realism, however that in itself will put some players off. If you aren’t into putting thought into each and every basket you shoot, 2K2 will seem like a slow, methodical bore. But if you’re in the know, the pacing becomes a sweet symphony that is just a few hairs from greatness.

Story is a great component of any RPG but it has to have a quality battle engine alongside. Thankfully Grandia utilizes one of the best we have played.

It's one of the best, if not the best, basketball titles I have played on any system. That alone makes this one of the best purchases for your PS2 this year.

A handful of new gameplay tweaks, new hovercraft racing classes and a PSP-worthy visual overhaul make WipeOut Pure the best installment in the series since 1996â??s "WipeOut XL."

EA’s decision to pander to casual gamers and non-golf fans with “Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005” threatens to obliterate the reputation the series has built over the past three years as the console golf sim to beat.

The control in R4 is something that you will either be a fan of and realize that it offers almost unprecedented control or feel that it is so arcadish and fake that it's unbearable. I reside on the fan level.

This may be the best single player experience (EA has) come up with yet.

Great balance and plenty of fun put this one on par with "Mario Kart" and if not for the average track design it would easily surpass.

Huge levels are constrained by pre-determined paths, action sequences are harshly pre-determined and any sense that you might have be able to affect the outcome is sapped by the largely obvious mission objectives.

Outstanding visuals (the best yet on PS2), killer sound, kick-ass characters (new one’s as well as returning one’s), finely-tweaked gameplay (which still lags behind VF4 in depth but not replayability) and a truckload of extras (including the first three Tekken arcade games) make this the be-all, end-all installment of Tekken to date.

Lacks the true simulation aspects of PC titles, but at least the series now plays, sounds, looks and controls as close to perfection as humanly possible.

Rarely does a 3D action game become more fun to beat after its been completed a first or second time. That’s exactly what R&C and its truckload of gizmos delivers.

Red Faction joins the ranks of the PS2 triple-A titles. Solid control, a good story, an incredible atmosphere, and a long adventure make Red Faction an awesome package.

Sometimes many little things that seem small can add up to make an impact and I believe NCAA has done just that. I am once again impressed EA.

The best asset of Madden 2002 is still its overall sense of providing the complete package for hardcore simulation fans as well as casual armchair quarterbacks or groups of up to eight football-mad NFL fanatics.

Better-looking, more polished, funnier and longer (much longer) than its predecessor.

The only requirements needed to have a blast playing Ridge Racer on PSP are (a) a pulse, (b) the skill to be competitive in a driving videogame (not everyone’s cup of tea) and (c) some historical perspective of what this series has meant to Sony in both sales and as a measuring stick of its then-new systems’ power.

Sure, there's a little blood and the replays really show off some of the sport's unforgiving brutality, but it's only enough to warrant the game a Teen rating from the ESRB so parent's shouldn't have to worry about their warping their children's fragile little minds with this one.

One thing that really impressed me is that when racing against the computer the cars will actually change places.

Abe's Exoddus isn't different in too many ways from the original but it harkens back to that old saying. "If it ain't broke then why fix it?" fans of the original will be totally pleased here.

And when you factor in downloadable content with the upcoming release of the PS2 HDD, SOCOM’s reign as the PS2’s top online game doesn't look to be ending anytime soon.

It spanks the crap out of "Gauntlet Legends" in depth while still having the hack ‘n slash a non RPG fan will be drawn to.

The magic of the revert comes through despite the graphical flaws.

Had Jak II delivered a gameplay revolution as dramatic and massive as its graphics (BEST LOOKING ACTION PS2 GAME... EVER!), excellent sounds (which take into account non-English speaking players), buttery-smooth controls and solid interface this could have become the PS2 equivalent of "Super Mario 64."

The ultimate “MGS” fan’s dream come true. And, with Solid Snake now front and center throughout the proceedings (Snake Tales anyone?), this “MGS” sequel can be enjoyed the way it was meant to: with as little Raiden as possible!
