It is worth a glance, but if you bore easily you may find this doesn't have the 'wow' gameplay factor to hold your interest for long, and would probably be better off looking elsewhere ultimately.

Even with this solid track list, and the sensible step away from Simon Cowell, Karaoke Revolution still fails to answer what makes it unique.

It's most definitely a sink or swim title, but for those eager to take to the seas they could do a lot worse.

The game is in fact at its best in the opening tutorial levels where your only purpose is to gather and grow and wreak splendid havoc on the scenery, before any of the fire sprite collection, bonus objectives or special moves are added to the mix, bogging down the gameplay.

Taking it as a whole its blatantly not perfect, in fact it's almost shoddy at times, but there's a nugget of gold inside SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Tactical Strike that shines through bright enough to almost make up for the numerous problems.

The camera, AI and dreadful respawning conspire to cause great damage to an otherwise enjoyable yarn.

Not even the addition of 8-player online and system link multiplayer can help inject the lacklustre race proceedings with any tangible worth in the face of shoddy track design and worryingly slack vehicle controls.

If only it had received the sort of touch generation's look and feel recently applied to titles such as Picross DS or Puzzle League, then this could have eclipsed even the PC title.

All in all, considering that the overall gameplay mechanic is a rinse and repeat exercise of duck and cover shooting coupled with a partially fractured command interface, it's hard to recommend Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway to anyone other than hardened series fanatics.

Much like those random late night films you know nothing about before you watch them and end up enjoying, Galactic Assault is more fun that you'd expect although it never really ever comes close to being great.

Shaun White Skateboarding attempts to do something fresh and interesting with the skate genre, but ultimately fails with fudged controls and glacially-paced gameplay.

Overall the game just has a very mediocre feel about it. It seems a bit like someone just got the basic elements of a point and click adventure game from 10 years ago and assumed that this would do fine.

Early bosses can be defeated by simply standing right in front of them and persistently pressing of the x button.

It doesn't skimp on the imagination or level design, and while it might feel a little patronising to some in terms of constantly telling you what buttons to press, it still offers some very enjoyable fun.

Aside from the basic RPG elements and decent storylines, Ninety Nine Nights remains a shallow game with little to make it stand out.

If Starship Troopers is your favourite film and you're looking for a new game to play for a couple of days and then use it only to prove to friends that the abilities of your brand new PC are beyond those of their next-gen consoles, then this is a suitable choice. If, however, you are looking for something more, I would look elsewhere.

This is a game that certainly joins the dots, but ultimately has the feel of a 'design by committee' delivery. Although it does have its moments, it rarely shines as much as it could. Although this is no doubt the first in a series of releases from EA, it is fair to say they could have made a bigger splash with its first outing on the DS.

Taking it on its own merits it's a generally fun but rather un-ambitious and far too short arcade brawler that certainly isn't going to change the world but will happily provide a few hours of solid fun for anyone willing to give it a go.

The opponents seem to always outclass you, with the AI coming across as simplistic, relying instead on superior stats as opposed to any kind of impressive fighting prowess.

And while the title's misgivings are obstacles that anyone interested enough in the sport will learn over time to overcome, as a beacon towards accessibility to gaming for non-games players, they'll no doubt serve to hinder rather than endear their experiences.

If you're not fussed either way or Transformers don't especially tickle your fancy, then you'll still find a competent action adventure that whilst incredibly linear and lacking variation, is still essentially sound.

Whilst it doesn't have the depth of play of The Godfather, or the violence of Scarface it does a good job of playing to its strengths and delivering a highly enjoyable game.

Crash Bandicoot is one of the all-time great platforming characters, not a brawler, so let's keep it that way.

Testing out the new additions and playing around with the new options is more than mildly diverting. However, after a while the tediousness of the city-scape and the simplicity of the driving model conspire to make one think of the other things that could be done with the time.

If you're an RTS or Warhammer fan you will probably still enjoy it, it's just lacking a certain something that would make it a good game regardless of whether you normally love RTS games or not.

While substandard scripts and voice acting can be forgiven, when someone pays upwards of £30 for a game lasting ten hours maximum they do not expect to be faced with fiddly controls or to be confused by poorly thought out level structures.

Overall, this game will hit the mark for its target audience, so if you know someone who is a fan it will be perfect. It might be a pleasant diversion for the older gamer, if slightly simplistic.

Here again we find a third-party suffering next to the high bar set by Nintendo with the likes of Wii Sports - a game that no doubt had a much larger budget and longer gestation. At least in NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams we have a passable distraction until the day comes when we find out what exactly the Wii is capable of.
