Grid, the soft reboot of the brand, is like the original game a fun arcade racer with a few easy-to-use simulation approaches. The circumference is minimal, but on track Grid is very convincing and challenging.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint suffers from the lack of decisiveness. It does not know whether it is a single player game or a loot-shooter like The Division 2 and thus, fails to satisfy either of the two areas. Additionally, a poor enemy AI and a story oozing with clichés add to the shooter distress.

Untitled Goose Game is both for people who like creative and weird ideas and people who are into stealth. Sadly, the whole spectacle is over way too quickly. But in the two hours it takes to play through Untitled Goose Game, you’ll have a blast. Awaken your inner goose.

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is the better Yooka-Laylee game. The developer’s decision to create a 2D- instead of 3D-game was the right one. The overworld is the secret star of the game with loads of riddles and secrets and overall the new Yooka-Laylee is very challenging. The role models are obvious: Super Mario and Donkey Kong. If you are into 2D jump and runs, you will have a lot of fun with Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair.

Satisfying, brutal combat and fun exploration paired with some clever improvements make The Surge 2 a deeper, better experience than the first game, even when the story falls flat and forgettable most of the time.

Now and then the gameplay is a bit repetitive, but on the whole it hardly bothers.

A finely crafted game that knows what it wants to be and succeeds on almost every level. The fluid action, beautiful art style and engaging story will keep you hooked for at least 15 hours, but once the final boss is done, there aren’t many reasons to return. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Gears is sawing in the right direction now. Gears of War 4 disappointed a bit, the new Gears studio was under a lot of (time) pressure. This time The Coalition surprised positively. Gears 5 offers more variety than previous Gears and, thanks to Jack, gives real strategic skills for the first time. I also like the longer, atmospheric story sections. Fortunately, the storyline with Kait offers suspense, as the story about the Hammer of Dawn doesn't exactly sparkle with ingenuity. Thanks to The Coalition for the three-player co-op mode as well as for the escape mode. All in all, Gears 5 convinced me.

There are fantastic ideas at work here, but the confusing opening hours and an abundance of repetitive tasks will put a lot of people off.

Remnant: From The Ashes is a challenging third person shooter with light RPG elements and co-op. Though it lacks in high quality presentation and storytelling, it is still a lot of fun to play.

A perfect cast, strong performances and a thoughtful script offer an intimate, almost voyeuristic insight into the personal lifes of these characters, who really grew on me the longer I played. In terms of gameplay, there are ups and downs, some of which could have been avoided. I understand the directors intention behind some decisions, but I wished the game had more options in terms of video control or perhaps even a post-credit-mode that lets me combine two videos into one cohesive dialogue. But as long as you know what you are getting into, this movie-in-a-game-hybrid can be a fascinating experience, even when the overarching storyline turns out to be a surprisingly simple affair.

Control does have its fair share of issues, like the useless map and the subpar pacing of the story. These flaws, however, are not enough to take away from the ever-entertaining fights against enemies, the great atmosphere and the strong worldbuilding. I for one will not leave the Federal Bureau of Control until I’ve unsheathed the last of its mysteries.

Gibbous is a charming, old school point&click-adventure with a Lovecraftian twist. Despite it being very much inspired by older titles, Gibbous, for the most part, avoids overly complicated and farfetched solutions to its riddles. Instead, it relies on a lot of wit and attention to detail. The humor is a tad too meta in the beginning of the game, but feels a lot more natural later on. While the story is decent, its ending leaves a bit to be desired.

Rad is a competently made rougelike. However, compered to other games like it, the gameplay is quite monotone and there‘s too little variety regarding the characters. It’s also also quite easy, leaving veterans of the genre feeling bored.

Rebel Galaxy Outlaw is like the little, cool brother of Elite Dangerous. It’s not as huge and doesn’t offer the variety in terms of ships or planets compared to it’s older sibling, but at the end of the day, Outlaw is just plain fun.

Vane is a rather short and artistic indie game that is committed to give players as little guidance as necessary. That is true regarding the gameplay as well as the story. While the atmosphere and vast sceneries of Vane are intriguing, the game‘s reluctance to point the player in the right direction often works against itself and more often than not results in frustration.

My expectations have definitely been met as well, as the new part of the series has very different civilizations, a nice sci-fi look, a good soundtrack and a comprehensive bodybuilding strategy.

The campaign is a lot of fun. Sadly, there is very little story to it, but powering up your car nevertheless feels great. The other game modes are also great, delivering challenges, legendary races, Grand Prix and a very robust multiplayer mode. As every year, the developers deliver the full package.

Sea of Solitude doesn’t quite hit the mark. Gameplay-wise it is boring, the story overexplains too much and isn’t as interesting as it thinks it is. The idea behind it all, however, is great, exploring the concept of being lonely and taking the issue of depression seriously.

Shadowbringers is one of the best MMO-Addons, we have ever played. The emotional main story is breathtaking and in its own right the best reason to play this game. Moreover, there is so much great content with the new zones, dungeons and raids or fresh features like the Trust System. A Must-Play for every MMO-Fan.

Cooking Simulator is fun, despite its tedious career mode. There’s a lot of detail tot he different recipes and it takes a lot of focus to be successful. This is partly so because of the controls which aren’t always too responsive and some technical hiccups. Cooking Simulator isn’t a full meal, but a great snack.

Look closely, Konami, for this is how a Contra game should look and play like! Blazing Chrome doesn’t win a price für originality, nor does it reinvent the action genre. It’s just a damn well-made game.

Outer Wilds isn’t as big as something like No Man’s Sky, and gameplay-wise, it is quite simple. Still, it feels special, mostly because of ist non-linear structure. The game is all about exploring and having an adventure. It can be frustrating, mostly when the open structure leads you into a dead end. But this is just a minor problem in an otherwise fascinating experience.

Compared to its predecessor, Steel Division 2 is even more complex – mainly because of the new campaign mode. Although everything in the game is great for fans of real time strategy, it lacks of a real tutorial. That’s a shame, because without any help the game is much too complicated for beginners.

Contra Anniverary Collection brings these great action platformers together in a competent way. The controls aren’t always perfect and we would have loved to play the multiplayer online with friends. Also, it’s sad that the fourth entry is missing altogether. Nevertheless, there’s a lot to love here.
