Naruto X Boruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections stands in many ways as the synthesis of a 20-year experience, which is as much that of Masashi Kishimoto's work as that of CyberConnect2, which has been working on these tie-ins since 2003. Unfortunately, they didn't seize the opportunity to deliver us the definitive transposition dedicated to the Ninja of the Leaf, sketching the story mode and re-presenting all the limitations of a gameplay that has abundantly had its day. Fortunately, Boruto's Special Story, the incredible cutscenes and the huge roster put a patch on it. A seal, actually.

The interface suffers from a serious scalability issue: text and icons are very often too small—at times almost illegible—on a screen like that of the Ally X. This is clearly a major flaw for a title that is so narrative-driven and involves extensive document reading. We are confident that this will be rectified promptly; however, given that this type of adventure game is perfectly suited for on-the-go gaming, we felt it was worth highlighting this issue.

Steelrising could and should have been a step up for Spiders. Unfortunately the choice to create a souls-like game at this point in the history of the genre did not help to reach the goal, bringing the team to a substantial stalemate. The story of Aegis works, the worldbuilding is interesting and the twists make the progression in the plot really interesting, but speaking of a genre so dependent on the technicalities of the gameplay, a bit of everything collapses under the weight of the experience pad in hand.

Winter Burrow is a gentle survival game that shares many traits with far more demanding titles, but softens them in favor of an experience with a warmer, more welcoming soul. One might even say it’s suitable for younger players. The story of this little mouse, who must restore his parents’ burrow, teaches us the value of a caring community. The cozy aspect of decorating and customizing the burrow isn’t particularly successful, and there’s no truly original idea that sets it apart from its inspirations. Still, it remains a pleasant fable about the value of simplicity.

Shadow Labyrinth is a fast-paced metroidvania that stands out for its atmospheric tone and the quirky presence of a yellow ball. Its most original features lie in the darker, sometimes unsettling narrative and the protagonist’s ability to transform into a futuristic Pac-Man, unlocking sections of the map designed to subvert typical genre expectations. While this creative twist adds freshness to a familiar formula, the game is held back by certain shortcomings: a lower-than-average difficulty, bosses that pose little challenge, a fairly predictable progression, level design that rarely surprises, and some stylistic inconsistencies. Despite these flaws, thanks to its fair launch price, it’s worth a try—especially for those interested in a more “accessible” metroidvania rather than a hardcore one.

On this front, however, one criticism must be raised regarding the limited quantity: currently, only five maps are available—all of them rather small in size. Skydance's Behemoth is therefore yet another good VR adventure released at the end of a year that had, instead, started off on the wrong foot. The variety of weapons and situations is discreet, but unfortunately the setting repeats itself too often, boring the player's eye. The plot is accurate even if not original or exciting, but it does its duty. If you are looking for a game that lets you have fun with controllers in hand, you have found it. It is a first step, mind you, and there is room for improvement in view of a following, but perhaps for this reason it would be worth supporting an Italian team that has something of its own to say.
