The question that every Final Fantasy fanatic poses is probably if it is still worth tackling all the extra obstacles, just to experience another epic adventure. As an online role-playing game, it requires a usual monthly subscription and every single expansion also has its price. If you look past that detail, Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers is yet another excellent game in the series, albeit a little too adapted for online gambling to attract exactly all "regular" Final Fantasy fans.- M3

While Dreams is a brilliant tool for home creations, after a few days we have seen all the Super Mario clones that we can take. Nearly all the titles feel have an "under construction" beta feeling. The question thus becomes, is it really worth spending money to beta test games for other creators? Of course, for those with a preference for homemade games, the answer is a resounding "yes". But for those who have never been aspiring game designers, it would have been more optimal with a cheaper lite version of Dreams, without the creation mode.- M3

Astral Chain is a different take on Platinum Games action formula and deserves a chance if you're a fan of their previous work. Although the battles never quite reach the same level of finesse and variety as in Bayonetta, there are still a occasions in the game that come close. The interaction between our character and its Legion is the big draw, but unfortunately there are times when we are forced to fight without it. Half of the times because our Legion attacks straight on, the other half because we ourselves fumble around with the right stick. But if you have plenty of patience, Astral Chain works superbly at least until it's time for Bayonetta 3.- M3

Insomniac IS doing a lot of things right with Spider-Man. The superhero feeling is perfect, and fans of Spider-Man will find plenty of references to the universe. But the game lacks something that is difficult to pinpoint. Not many of its ridiculous amount of side missions feel unique, and the main story lacks tension. Spider-Man is a beautiful, charming and creative game, but it's also repetitive and too ambitious for its own good.- M3

16 years after the first Psychonauts, the long-awaited sequel is here. A sequel that feels familiar, yet time improved in every way. Just like its predecessor, we get clever platforming, imaginative worlds, and wonderful characters. Unfortunately, we also get substandard battles, uneven level design and a somewhat unpolished package. It is quite noticeable that Psychonauts 2 is a grassroots-funded indie game at its core, but in the end its not all that hard to forgive the faults.- M3

Luigi's latest adventure is an adorable and well-made game that is far more diverse than we first thought. Exploring the hotel sometimes feels as extensive as the usual Super Mario adventure, instead of the brief experiences that preceded it. In addition, Luigi's arsenal has grown and with the help of Gooigi we also get a whole new way to deal with the many puzzles the hotel offers. But above all, it's the variety of ghosts and their surroundings that makes Luigi's Mansion 3 one of the most entertaining adventures this fall, despite some tricky controlling methods.- M3

The multiplayer is as unique as ever, and the addition of a single-player campaign (however brief) helps to pad out the game and give its best ideas more room to breathe. Not everything works—least of all the writing—but if nothing else Respawn proves it’s a studio willing to experiment, to push boundaries in a way Battlefield and Call of Duty largely stopped doing years ago.- M3

Forza Motorsport 7 is an exhilarating and easy-to-play racing game that is perfect for everyone who doesn’t want to waste their time on anything but reaching the checkered flag first. And on the track, Forza impresses with a ton of cars and intense races. Unfortunately the somewhat terrible AI, a few game breaking bugs and a complete lootbox-craze left us a with a sour taste. We still enjoy our time with the game, but it is not as fine-tuned as expected.- M3

Day of the Tentacle Remastered is in every way a reminder of where the adventure genre was in the early 90’s. It has a pretty shallow story, badly written dialogue and underdeveloped characters. Surely the remastered will probably make fans of the original happy, but for anyone else this is more a proof of how much story telling and puzzle design has progressed since.- M3

After almost ten years Twilight Princess still is a pretty decent adventure, though not close to being the best in the franchise. The world isn’t that interesting, and the dark story feels a bit outdated compared to more modern titles like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Definitely a greater game than the first Nioh, although still difficult to recommend to all action aficionados out there. After all, it's still a "soulsborne" type game and will take a lot of your time. Those with patience will experience the greatest fulfillment after defeating the various difficult bosses. But if you're not ready to devote your free time to memorize the fighting system: Turn around! There are limits to how much we can die before our console goes out the window.- M3

Starcraft: Remastered is a great but somewhat superfluous upgrade with the original game still being supported and free to play at that. Yakuza: Like A Dragon is a fresh update of Sega's crazy gangster simulator. The new combat system is varied and really entertaining. The balance between the seriousness of the story and the humorous elements is excellent, and the new protagonist Ichiban is convincing. But unfortunately, the real "next-gen" elements are absent. A Plague Tale: Innocence is a flawed yet thrilling adventure. While we love the characters and mostly enjoy the stealth sections and combat, the game is just too linear and limited; “walk there and do that – or die”. Control is a really atmospheric game with everything we want in a third person action game and a little more, but unfortunately it falls on the execution. With more well-made character models and fewer bugs, this would have been a really good game for anyone looking for an immersive and intense experience. Unfortunately, it’s sometimes barely playable. It's easy to judge Sword & Shield as a quick cash grab during it's first hours. The rich and complex story from Sun & Moon is all gone in favor for a more classic Pokémon story with no flimsy side tracks. Graphically, it is also not as impressive as other major titles from Nintendo. But what we get instead shows a willingness to take the series forward with new, fresh features with Dynamax and the open world hub that is the Wild Area. And in the end the fight is the most important thing in a Pokémon game. When we're in the middle of a gigantic and crowded stadium, enjoying the most dynamic battles of a Pokémon game, it's hard to think of anything else. Then we realize that Pokémon should be all about becoming "the very best." Everything else is secondary.- M3

Despite being over 20 years old, Diablo II is a true classic and offers gameplay that holds up very well even today. However, the graphics do not, which makes it fitting that this remaster lovingly repaints the exterior but leaves most of the interior intact. You will mainly hack and slash your way through the levels, but clever puzzles, fun explorations and challenging platforming makes the adventure feel familiar yet fresh at the same time. Sure, the game feels a bit low-budget at time, and especially the control and camera could use some fine-tuning. But overall, Airship Syndicate has created a real gem for anyone who wants a slightly smarter and more varied action game.- M3

Although the game system is well done and the environments are beautiful, the rest is still bland and unimaginative. However, the battles are a strong bright spot - and if you like Japanese role-playing games in the old style, there is a lot to like here. Do not expect any groundbreaking new features or an outstanding story though.- M3

Even though Dragon Quest Heroes II might not feel like a full fledged sequel, it fixes our main gripes of the first game and offers an enjoyable adventure filled with charm and flashy but somewhat repetitive battles.- M3

With an entertaining campaign, great online opportunities and panic-stricken zombie slaughter, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is an impressive package. Still, we can not help but feel disappointed. The best parts of the campaign could have been developed much more and the online modes feel well stripped down. Cold War still impresses, but with more development time, it could have been so much more than "this year's Call of Duty game".- M3

It is easy to say whether Trover Saves the Universe is worth your time or not. If you like the humor, the gameplay is solid enough for the game to keep your attention to the end. If you do not like the humor, however, you will probably give up before the first level is completed.- M3

There is plenty of fun to be had with Super Mario Party, if the circumstances are right. With four friends and the right mindset you will have hours of fun in front of you. Although if you prefer a fair game, can’t gather enough players, or want to play online the enjoyment falls significantly. In the end Super Mario Party might actually be the highlight of the series so far, but there is still a lot of room for improvement.- M3

Clubs and spears instead of firearms, and mammoths instead of cars. Far Cry Primal is a well-made and interesting take on the Far Cry formula, but in the end it just is not as good as the third and fourth installment.- M3

Mass Effect Andromeda is the anticipated sequel to the hit space trilogy that, sadly enough, doesn’t deliver. Sketchy animations, uninspiring characters and uneven story make this one a space-adventure to quickly forget.- M3

Paper Mario: Color Splash is one of those games that works best if you play it a couple of hours each time. The graphical design is as wonderful as ever, and the adventure offers plenty of charming settings. Sadly the gameplay feels a little too monotonous, and the battles aren’t as dynamic as the previous games.- M3

Firewatch is an odd game, not only because it’s an indie title with no combat whatsoever. The world is so beautiful and the first hour is pure gaming magic. But in the end the story feels a bit flat. However, the artwork alone makes it worth playing.- M3

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit is a good attempt to revive the toys to life genre. The AR functions are really impressive, with varied environments such as snow landscapes and lava worlds that give your living room a completely new look. Unfortunately the basic game itself is somewhat limited in terms of characters and unlockables. In addition, the 200cc mode is the only one that corresponds to the fast-paced feel from the original. And the total prize will definitely discourage a lot of curious players.- M3

NHL 18 has plenty of content for the hockey fan, whether you play offline or online. The new skill focused gameplay is a welcome addition, as well as the party mode "Threes". But just like the previous games NHL 18 feels a little too unpolished on the ice. This series is still in need of a renovation.- M3

With over 50 games on the roster Sega Mega Drive Classics has something for most retro fans. Granted most of the games have already been seen in older collections and the emulation is not always perfect, but the ability to quick save and especially rewind is a game changer. Even though some will call it cheating, the ability to undo mistakes makes the classic games much more accessible and enjoyable than ever before.- M3

When we sum up our experience with episode 3, it definitely feels better than when we played through the other parts. It all ends as usual with a strong cliffhanger that promises well for the continuation. We hope, however, that the next episode offers more action and gameplay moments with more direct control over the events.- M3

Hexagroove: Tactical DJ is a somewhat odd but still enjoyable music experience. While it isn’t a typical music game where you mimic predetermined tunes, it isn’t a music creation tool either. Instead it’s something in between. At first the gameplay might feel both overwhelming and confusing, especially since the tutorial is pretty terrible. But after some practice everything starts to come together – and you will soon be hypnotized by the excellent symbiosis of sound and visuals.- M3

Ghostwire: Tokyo is an odd but thrilling adventure that mixes action, horror and Japanese traditions. Exploring a demon-filled Tokyo is decently frightening, while the battles are both intense and somewhat original. Some repetitive moments and an uneven story lower the experience a few notches, but in the end, the positive parts outweigh the bad ones.- M3

Morrowind is a well-made but familiar extension to the Elder Scrolls Online universe. Although "more of the same" has a negative tone to it, it is hard to complain when a huge island filled with exciting adventure awaits. However, it would have been nice with an updated combat system and some new game mechanics that would bring some needed freshness to the gameplay.- M3

We will have to wait and see if Hitman's episodic format will turn out to be a successful approach. Right now the experience seems somewhat abrupt. But what´s really important here is that the gameplay is a step in the right direction with a creativity, freedom and fair difficulty comparable to some of the series' greatest moments.- M3

Everybody's Golf VR takes videogame golf to a whole new level. Although the fact that the gameplay is amazing, makes the lack of content it even more disappointing. Given the relatively low price tag, the number of courses is acceptable, but the lack of online play and even single player tournaments hurts the overall enjoyment.- M3

It's been more than a decade since Left 4 Dead 2 and Turtle Rock is now back to reclaim the throne. Back 4 Blood is not a revolution, though. Instead, it's an evolution of the developer's already excellent gameplay from before. Although we would have liked less of the small flaws we find, it does not stop the game from being a really entertaining and addictive shooter. With human teammates, that is.- M3

With challenging yet fun racing, a career mode filled with content and a ton of different motorcycles, Ride 4 offers us most things we want from a racing game. Unfortunately, much of the enjoyment is hampered due to an unbelievably uneven difficulty level. Simple races are interspersed with challenging competitions and purely diabolical challenges. Ride 4 is still the most complete motorcycle racing game and a big upgrade compared to its predecessor - but be prepared to have your patience tested.- M3

Call of Duty: Vanguard reminds us of the Call of Duty titles from over 15 years ago. And there is nothing wrong with a somewhat stripped-down reboot, but in this case, it feels like a lack of development time is the main reason for the cutbacks. The single player campaign looks terrific and plays great but has very few memorable moments. The zombie mode on the other hand lacks a lot of content at launch. Luckily, the main online mode offers plenty of content and the gameplay is as addicting as ever – even though everything feels very familiar.- M3

Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs is a light-hearted tactical role-playing game that is easy to learn yet challenging to complete. Grid is an easy-to-play racing game that entertains on the track but disappoints everywhere else. The career mode is hardly worth the name, and the online mode only offers the most basic functions. Although, if you can't stand the realism you’ll find in most of today’s racing games and just want something fun to play – Grid might be the game for you.- M3

Seen as an expansion, Destiny 2: Shadowkeep is good but not great. Most of the new content is enjoyable, but the gameplay loop falls into familiar routines surprisingly fast. However, if you see the expansion as a part of a complete package, the overall improvements have transformed Destiny 2 to one of the best action games this console generation. If you haven’t tried it yet, there hasn’t been a better time to start than now.- M3
