DC’s Justice League Cosmic Chaos is a game that younger gamers will enjoy, even geeky pop culture fans like myself. You can tell that the developers have an affinity of DC Comics, particularly with all the Easter Eggs and weird subtle references that are littered through Happy Harbor. All in all, a sturdy gaming engine with strong controls and well-crafted story featuring the amusing Mxyzptlk and three of the Justice League’s most powerful heroes, Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman. It’s just a shame that there is no campaign co-op but nonetheless, it works well as a single-player game.

The game still looks great, sounds brilliant and plays fantastically. If you missed it the first time around on the Wii-U, you’re in for a treat. The Gex Trilogy on Xbox Series X is a lovingly crafted remaster that delivers exactly what it promises: three quirky, nostalgic platformers with just enough modern polish to make them playable in 2025. It’s not a reinvention, and it doesn’t need to be. It’s a celebration of a character who never quite reached the heights of Mario or Sonic, but who carved out a unique, sarcastic niche in gaming’s pantheon.

Overall Nexomon on Switch is much better served in the sequel Nexomon:Extinction, than in this version. Whilst having its moments of fun and slightly addictive gameplay, it is still at its core a mobile game that’s really best enjoyed in smaller 5-10 increments rather than a proper hour or two of normal playtime. It was disappointing to see that no effort was made to update the game from the mobile with the exception of the removal of micro transactions. At £9.99 it is not the most expensive game and would be good for those of you who want to scratch that monster catching itch before the new Pokemon games come out.

For veterans of Doom Eternal, The Ancient Gods DLC is arguably a must-by…especially if you’re looking for increased challenge and some clever worlds. Bethesda is likewise famous for supporting their titles to the nth degree, thus this DLC will offer significantly more playtime for the Doom devotee. There’s oodles of ongoing and/or contests for those registered with Bethesda’s online Doom portal. New players…don’t bother. The barrier of entry is simply too high in storyline, complexity and difficulty. Start with the main title (now readily available at huge discounts), and revisit this DLC in due time.

Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age is great. It was great in 2017 on the PS4. It’s greater now on the Switch. It looks amazing and the frame rate is consistent in the dock and in handheld. The price point is an issue. A port of a game more than a decade old should not cost the same as a full price Triple A new release title. There are indie games on the Nintendo Shop that are amazing for only a fraction of the price. Hell the original PS4 version of the Zodiac Age can be found in most stores of $25 and it is ostensibly the same game. Ultimately, though, if it’s your first time playing the series, Yakuza Kiwami is a decent place to start. Though technically, Yakuza 0 is the beginning of Majima and Kiryu’s stories, Kiwami is a fairly faithful remake of the original game from way back in 2005, so presents the actual beginning of the tale, as it was initially meant to be told (aside from a couple of bits to tie it to 0). It also doesn’t quite have the same flair or scope that much later entries have (technically 0 is the 6th). That being said, it also doesn’t have the level of bloat that many of the later entries have, and the Switch 2 port is incredibly slick and, like Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut before it, is an absolute joy to play either docked or in handheld mode.

You don’t have to play the games in order (though the story may work a little better that way)… so if you get stuck in one you can always jump out and have a go at another and then come back later. The challenge starts low but increases at a decent pace as you go so you will feel like you are on top of things one moment only to find the urge to rage quit building as you are a few levels deep. But as tends to be the case with these games… perseverance pays off and that sense of victory is all the sweeter for having to really work for it. PES 2013 is once again a lot more realistic and gives the player more (tactical) control. Due to the slow tempo and the many tactical ways of putting your team on the field, every player can put a well thought through game on the pitch. Unfortunately the goal is mostly defended by incapable, badly trained chimps and on top of that the game also has some traditional PES-problems: bad animations, few licenses and an overall lacking finish. PES 2013 is like F.C. Barcelona playing in a tiny 500-person stadium; the quality of the game can never really be fully appreciated.

This is the same Civilization VI experience you would expect to find on a PC, for better and for worse. It’s portable Civilization VI and it actually works. Civ fans probably didn’t even read this far down before they made the decision to jump in. Series newcomers shouldn’t be afraid to give it a shot, there’s a great tutorial and the reworked interface makes things seem a little less daunting, for the first few dozen hours at least.

In the end Alice: Madness Returns is a fun game that really twists the traditional arcade platformer with the acid like world of the original Lewis Caroll's Alice in Wonderland.

Royalty & Legacy went from an underwhelming reveal to a Royal surprise. It's a more than fine pack for any Medieval Fantasy, swordfighting lover like myself. It's world is gorgeous and full of lore, and clear love and passion went in to it. It is not a must, but a welcome addition, and what it provides it does well.

Overall, Avernum: Escape From the Pit is a solid RPG experience that combines classic style, a compelling story, and generous content to create an indie game that is very much worth your time. If you're looking for a complex single player RPG and value content at the expense of visuals, don't miss this title.

If you’re a fan of Pokémon, Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! creates a decent experience on the Nintendo Switch that takes the series back to basics which makes for an enjoyable game as you attempt to catch all these little critters. However with the inclusion of the Poké Ball Plus, this does transcend the real-world with the virtual-world that builds a much more interactive experience on the Nintendo Switch, especially with the ability of using it with Pokémon GO and your smartphone.

Gotham Knights is a beautiful game that tells an amazing story. Fans of Batman and Arkham Knights will definitely like what they see. Still, the game’s over-reliance on grapple and grind can wear thin, even with a terrific nightly progression system that advances main and side missions wonderfully. Final judgment should be reserved for robust multiplayer inclusion, however.

It’s easy to get muddled in the endless sea of roguelikes, but occasionally, you wander on one that feels really special. Forestrike ticks that box. With a simple premise and a great combination of pick-up-and-play combat and involved strategy, Forestrike makes for a mighty fine martial arts adventure.

I think it’s a fun little game and am happy to recommend it… it might be a little pricey for what’s there (I completed the main game in a bit over 6 hours), there are the extra challenges and each play through can provide different experiences… but perhaps wait for a sale to get the best value.

Sound in the game is superbly done, the music sound track fits the look and feel of the game. With sweeping grand music and drumming beats fit for the grand epic adventure that the game is. So too is the voice acting, with flair and conviction and an earnest truth ringing in the words.

We may have seen it all before but the EyePet Move edition transcends the original premise and creates a rather well made virtual pet game that is so abundant on the Wii and the DS. Great graphics, good use of the PlayStation architecture, this might become a must have game for the younger gamer.
