Sakuna’s deep rice-farming experience is truly unique. Making perfect rice is difficult at first, but you will become attached to the rice plants you have been cultivating over the in-game years. With intuitive controls, the side-scrolling action and dungeon exploration section is an enthralling experience as well. Sakuna is great at connecting these two different styles of gameplay, creating a well-balanced game with lots of variety all round.- IGN Japan

Resident Evil 4 is simply one of the best remakes out there. It doesn’t only modernize the original game, but also gives the player more ways to tackle combat. The updated knife combat in particular adds a whole new layer of fun. The graphics and sound are of high quality, and even the story moments and characters that were lacking in the original have been improved. That being said, in 2023, Resident Evil 4 doesn’t leave quite the same impact as the original did back in 2005.- IGN Japan

Hogwarts Legacy is a detailed open world game focused around magic. It completely fulfills the dream of enrolling in the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. While the game has its fair share of problems in terms of UI and performance, it isn’t just for Harry Potter fans: Its casual nature also makes it a great game for newcomers to open world games.- IGN Japan

It’s no surprise that brand new visuals and sound make the alluring world and ephemeral story of Link’s Awakening all the more endearing, but I did not expect to fall in love with its 26-year-old game design all over again.- IGN Japan

Black Bird’s strong visual and sound direction are a callback to developer Onion Games’ previous incarnation as LOVEdeLIC, but the game itself is a hardcore shoot-'em-up. Its great design demands the player learn patterns in order to chase high scores, an approach that is enjoyable for both seasoned players and those new to the genre.- IGN Japan

From the open world to engaging in part-time jobs, No More Heroes 3 does not only bring back some of the series’ most iconic aspects, but also manages to introduce new elements without making a mess out of it. With the improved battle system, this is the best action game that Grasshopper Manufacture has ever made. The only thing that drags the experience a bit down is the often rough story development and lack of character depth.- IGN Japan

ALTDEUS: Beyond Chronos is an even better VR adventure than developer MyDearest’s last game, Tokyo Chronos. The satisfying story feels like a full-fledged robot anime. While improvements could be made to the ambitious UI, which incorporates AR to make the player’s actions within the game’s world feel more natural, both the story and stellar presentation make this a game any robot anime fan should buy a VR device for.- IGN Japan

While the balance between punishment and reward feels a bit extreme, the satisfaction you get when finally beating a difficult boss is unmatched. Even so many years after its original release, this “theme park of death” is still as great as it always was. While faithful to the original, sudden invasions from other players can interrupt the flow of the game, which is something I had hoped to see the remake improve on.- IGN Japan

Dynasty Warriors: Origins brings the series’ concept of beating up hordes of enemies to a new level due to more varied and better-paced gameplay. While the way characters interact with each other and the protagonist’s own story can feel a bit awkward, experiencing China’s Romance of the Three Kingdoms period as a nameless warrior is extremely satisfying.- IGN Japan

With a much higher visual quality compared to previous entries in the series, Yokai Watch 4 makes you feel like you are walking through a gorgeous anime. While the wide variety does add a somewhat cumbersome feeling to the gameplay, as an overall experience, Yokai Watch 4 is a great new direction for the series.- IGN Japan

While some of its new story feels unnecessary, and players who have already beaten the original will have to go through the dungeons all over again to access the new content, this is still one of the best RPGs of the current generation.- IGN Japan

Obviously inspired by Vanillaware’s games such as Dragon’s Crown, The Vagrant’s graphics are impressive, and the game comes with a ton of replay value, making it well worth your money. However, while its game mechanics are interesting, The Vagrant struggles in finding its own identity.- IGN Japan

Hardcore Mecha wonderfully pays homage to the Super Robot Wars series, and comes with cutscenes of high quality. Stages have been cleverly designed to prevent the game from becoming tedious, and the voluminous scenario and deep gameplay make it easy to get lost in Hardcore Mecha’s anime world. It’s too bad that with the exception of your character’s arch rival, other enemies don’t leave a lasting impression.- IGN Japan

While keeping the series’ essence intact, the newly introduced Wild Area makes Pokémon Sword/Shield feel significantly different, switching up how battles and party formation work. Pokémon Sword/Shield is an enjoyable game, and even if it doesn’t include every single Pokémon ever made, its changes could very well mark a new start for the series.- IGN Japan
