Generation Zero combines the open world of an RPG with the shooting and looting of a battle royale, to create a rather special, 80s vision of post-apocalyptic sci-fi, where every fight feels like a battle for survival.

Overall, this still needs a lot of work before I can recommend it. While the visual novel like sections and the UI are crisp on the Switch, the actual gameplay runs and looks bad. The only reason you should consider getting this game on Switch is if you absolutely need portability over everything else.

The Shapeshifting Detective on the Switch is the best way to play it since it offers the full big screen experience and has the ability to not only play it on the go but with both button or touch controls. If you enjoy murder mystery games, this one is definitely worth your time.

The new additions to the story and combat are welcome and they definitely make the experience better than the original Vita release. This is better than playing it on the PS Vita for sure but you’d rather just get this on PS4 or PC if you’re really interested in Caligula.

If you’ve never played OlliOlli or the follow up, you absolutely need to get this package that has both together. The music, level design, and animations are all superb. OlliOlli 2 is easily one of my favourite indie games of all time and I’m glad to have it on another platform.

A triumphant follow-up that sets the bar for the looter-shooter. There are some teething issues, but The Division 2 is an incredibly polished product, and downright compelling at the same time.

It was almost inevitable that One Piece World Seeker would have some faults, but it’s hard not to love the game regardless of them.

Despite some issues with visuals and AI, MX vs ATV All Out Anniversary Edition is somehow still a lot of fun to play and brings back memories of Motocross Madness.

It’s engaging and interesting, but not a game for those looking for a quick casual bounce around. This is an experience best played with headphones, greasy palms from the precise jumping, and sweaty forehead from the concentration. It’s not a revolutionary game, but it does what it sets out to do very nicely indeed.

The campaign itself is quite lengthy with some of the later puzzles taking a little bit more to work out, but the game does such a fantastic job of gradually introducing new ideas that nothing feels insurmountable. It doesn’t feel quite as polished as it did when I played it on Xbox One, however it feels great to sit and muddle my way through the clever puzzles again, especially in handheld mode.

There’s a lot to like with this remaster and I hope Capcom considers remastering the others for Switch (and PS4 and Xbox One) in the future because some aspects haven’t aged well but this is a damn fine experience. I’ve grown to enjoy playing many older games on handheld systems and Onimusha is best on Switch for me.

BlazBlue: Central Fiction – Special Edition is by far the best fighting game on Switch. It was already fantastic on PS4 but having everything included here right from the get go in a port that runs brilliantly even in handheld mode makes this my favourite version of the game. If you enjoy 2D fighters and have been wanting something content packed and polished, this is all you need on the Switch.

With controls feeling slick whichever way you play, the Switch version comes recommended due to its versatility and if you’ve yet to take the plunge (literally) with Downwell, there’s never been a better time to do so.

Devil May Cry 5 is a stunning hack and slash game and never fails to amaze. Combat this good should be illegal.

The Occupation is an inventive political thriller that does something new, but is let down by poor AI and some frustrating bugs.

Ape Out grabs you by the bananas and doesn't let go. A glorious combination of cathartic action, addictive gameplay and a rousing jazz backing.

Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn has a great game tucked away inside. But the time that has passed since the original and the extra additions tarnish the experience we fondly remember.

While it does have some issues, the core gameplay of Dead or Alive 6 is fluid and brilliantly fun. It’s certainly the best in the series so far.

A nice looking adventure, Fimbul is ultimately a bit of a hollow and forgettable experience.

If it’s realism you’re after, DiRT Rally 2.0 is up there with the best rally sims out there. It’s just let down a bit by some poor Rallycross AI and intrusive use of its online features, even in single player modes.

Jump Force wanted to be something for every anime fan, but while there’s plenty of fan service there just isn’t enough substance to proceedings.

Pumped BMX Pro is a decent game with loads of tricks to keep you occupied but the precision of the jumps and the steep learning curve can be quite off putting.

Trials Rising is a thrill ride of crazy tracks and various challenges, pushing physics-based racing to its limits.

Stellaris is a beautiful, busy space adventure that rewards you as much for careful, considered strategy as it does for building a 40-ship fleet as early as possible and going ham on anything with more than one pair of eyes.
