Mirthwood will appeal to those who enjoy a good adventure in the form of something like Outward, and those who love a bit of Stardew Valley.

While Expeditions: Viking won’t be winning any awards for ground-breaking storytelling or innovative gameplay, it’s compelling in just the right way that keeps commanding attention throughout. I found it to be a lot of fun, if a little unpolished in places.

Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception is a great visual novel for fans of the slice of life genre and one that made me want the sequel right now.

Othercide is damn hard, but if you can push through and find your feet, it's also an incredibly satisfying and atmospheric experience. Whatever you do, don't go in expecting to play a straightforward XCOM-clone. Othercide deserves more respect than that.

World to the West puts players in control of four unlikely heroes with unique skillsets and tasks them with exploring a puzzle-filled map. The world and its humourous characters are presented in a delightful art style and the soundtrack is great but the gameplay becomes repetitive in lengthier chunks.

Despite the minor problems, Skul is an immensely enjoyable, constantly surprising and great looking roguelike adventure that comes well recommended.

It may make some of the same mistakes as the first game, but The Surge 2 still manages to improve upon it in every way, to create a brutal but rewarding sequel.

Horizon Call of the Mountain is a great launch title with impressive tech shown off at every corner, only let down by some of the climbing.

Fun and frustrating, often in equal measure, Ruiner is polished to a high shine but still won't appeal to everyone.

Advance Wars 1+2: Re-boot Camp feels like it’s for the fans who loved the games back on Game Boy Advance, and despite some issues, it’s a superb package overall.

Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven is a wonderful remake of a game few in the west have played, with seriously compelling combat.

Outriders: Worldslayer refines the overall experience, adding a heap of new content and minor improvements that make it an essential expansion - just don't go in alone unless you're armed for bear.

The WIld at Heart is a beautiful game, with some smart puzzles and an engaging story. There are a few mechanics that frustrate, but on the whole this is a really good game.

Void Sols kept my interest for far longer than any other game of its ilk, and is perfectly suited to the Steam Deck where I spent my time with it.

Spellforce 3: Reforced is a confident mixing of genres that does well with both elements, and brings a ton of content to consoles.

The beginning of a really good crafting game is right here. It’s unpolished in places, and it could really do with some sort of social interaction/sharing, but its simplicity makes for a good introduction to the genre. It’s rewarding, if a little grindy in its initial few hours, but crafting fanatics will lap this up.

Slopecrashers is a great action racing game offering plenty of fun in both solo and multiplayer.

The simple mission structure, replyability and overall catharsis of After the Fall make it a triumph of VR gaming.

Despite some occasional slowdown and framerate shenanigans Ganryu 2 is beautifully animated and moves around at a fair old lick, and the whole package is just a gorgeous neo-retro arcade treat.

If you never had the privilege of playing this when it came out originally, now’s the perfect time to give it a go. It’s action-packed and smarter than it may appear, plus Duke Nukem is in it!
