An interesting opening to what will hopefully grow to be something quite special.

Puzzle games have always been a highlight on handhelds, and Surge Deluxe carries on this tradition. It’s amazing that despite largely lacking the AAA blockbuster titles, the Vita has become something of an indie paradise. Surge Deluxe is the latest, and one of the best.

Make no mistake: within moments of the disk-tray closing, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II weaves an intoxicating spell that compresses hours into minutes with shocking efficiency. A most pleasurable enthralment blinds the eyes to any shortcomings for a time, but with each successive break from play the cracks begin to form.

The new features add to what was already an enjoyable and entertaining experience, only now you can kick, punch, shoot and strangle your way to the top and feel like you're actually doing it.

NFS:U2 is trying very hard to progress this franchise, but sadly the enhancements that EA seem most proud of (the free roaming map, refillable N2O and SUV racing) detract from, rather than enhance, the game play experience.

Somehow, Final Fantasy III is still amazingly enjoyable and as addictive as any in the series, despite its age.

If you enjoyed the Lego Star Wars games and didn’t feel that they were getting tired by the end of the second game, then you’ll love this release.

Gamestyle seriously can't imagine anyone NOT having a good time with the game; the story is strong, scripting is well-done, characters are likable and the humour is abundant and at times very sarcastic.

Overall Sonic Jump is a solid entry to the Sonic library, a game built from the ground up for a specific device. It plays well and looks good on the iPhone retina display. There are plenty of better games out there but it is just nice to have another solid Sonic game to play.

If you like destruction, shooting people and a game with a brain the size of a pea then there is no doubt that Stranglehold is the game for you. It’s not smart or clever, but despite the flaws it still managed to entertain us right to it’s conclusion.

LEGO Harry Potter: Year 5-7 is one of the best co-op experiences that you will have all year, matched only by the co-op levels in Portal 2. It is more of the same, but sometimes more of the same is just what is needed.

Whilst there are some really good ideas here, Carbon feels too unbalanced as a package – too many bells and whistles attached to an average racing game. Roll on next year’s instalment.

An original IP in a genre not associated with consoles during the Christmas rush may not be the best time for its release. Though perhaps it’s managed to carve out a niche and in doing so we’re hopeful this really isn’t the end of this war.

Dragon’s Crown is an amazing experience and whilst it may be easy to turn your nose up at it, due to the visual style of the characters, to do so you would be denying yourself the chance of playing one the the best side-scrolling beat-em-ups of all time. A game with simplicity, that is also as deep as you want it to be. Open to newcomers and experienced players alike, you need this in your life.

Overall Metro 2033 is a game that should be played. It is atmospheric, gripping and arguably one of the better stories told in a game.

Had The Gunstringer been released as a full priced title with none of the added bonuses, then there would reason to complain, but released at a low price point and packed to the rafters with bonus content and a forgiving aiming system that doesn't want to punish the player. This is one Kinect game that should be in every Kinect owners collection.

If you have no interest in the classic cars, then there may be no real incentive to pick up F1 2013 over last year’s release, but you’d be missing out on something very special. It is probably the best release yet, there is plenty packed in and oh, those 80s cars are things of absolute beauty.

A great game, steep in challenge and offers very little but repetitive running and shooting, you will know if you are going to like it from the box, what you wont know is if you have anywhere with the required lighting to be able to play it.

What you have here is a game that has that special something, simple to play, but extremely difficult to master. It gets the balance so right, that any frustrations of difficulty are completely eradicated as you want to tackle levels again and again just to get each one perfect. A wonderful addition to the Vita’s impressive Indie library.
