Strider returns victorious. Great boss fights, responsive controls, interesting level design... those are only some of the elements that make this side-scroller such a success.

A slick pastiche of ‘80s retro cool and modern gameplay, Strider is both faithful to its source material and still capable of finding its own identity. It’s basically the raddest Saturday-morning cartoon you’ll ever play.

Strider is a great example of how you can reboot an old arcade game with modern sensibilities and still keep it true to its roots.

The Strider franchise rises in the XXI century, thanks to a game that will undoubtedly be one of the downloadables of 2014. Game development is inspired by the best Metroid and Castlevania bidimensional games, resulting in an essential one.

This reimagining of the original Strider establishes developer Double Helix’s firm grasp on the essence of the joy of movement that makes Strider Hiryu such a great character.

At its blistering best, Strider is a joy to play – its silky smooth controls making it difficult to not feel like the unstoppable agent himself. It's a welcome return to a beloved franchise, but it falls just short of maintaining the momentum that's expected of it, and instead opts to slice its way into a new generation with some less than exhilarating gameplay additions.

With more variety to its combat and some more time spent smoothing out its rough edges, Strider could have been a significantly better game.

You have to stay on your toes when it comes to combat, and the variety of enemies is pretty high. You won't be bored and you won't regret having spent the (very affordable amount of) money on it. For a ninja though, he doesn't do a lot of sneaking, but that's probably to be expected in the most heavenly armed fortress.

So I'll base this review on a first timer......

It's relatively cheap and it looks like it. Boring colour palette and bland visuals which wouldn't push the PS3, let alone the PS4. It's difficult, which I don't mind, but almost just for the sake of it. The original is renowned for it's harsh difficulty, so maybe it's simply a case of doing it again, but sometimes the difficulty just seems unnecessary. Possibly a ploy to lengthen the game?

I'm not bothered either way, because I couldn't be bothered to complete such a boring looking, repetitive, button mashing arcade game. I'd much rather play a remake of Target Renegade or Double Dragon.

Considering the masterpiece, i.e.Trine 2 (one of best games currently available on PS4, especially in 3D), is similar money, then Strider is way overpriced. Unless you're a hardcore Strider fan wanting to play for the sake of nostalgia.

    Average at best.

Strider is a terrible game. This sort of poor platform shooter should have died with the megadrive. Frustrating, dull, bad graphics, horribleStrider is a terrible game. This sort of poor platform shooter should have died with the megadrive. Frustrating, dull, bad graphics, horrible sound, disgraceful controls, laughable level design, all add up to make this an utterly unenjoyable experience. No wonder it was free on PSN but even that wont save this game, hopefully this will be the last we see of this mind-numbing game on any console again and the only time it will be used is as an example to younger generations on how not to make games. I gave it one point because it managed to load the game. Expand
