While it seems that all the games, even the most forgivable ones, feel the need to have a twist in them to break or turn upside down an established code, how can one with "retro" and a certain "opposition to change" both carved into its DNA surprise? In New Super Mario Bros. U, the princess doesn't get kidnapped, it's the hero that gets booted outside the castle to the far end of the realm. But it doesn't change anything: the game is a clear declaration that one does not need to change what already works perfectly.

Leaning more towards the action side of its gameplay, and offering an Arcade mode to take full advantage of refined mechanics, this Alan Wake spin-off could be seen as forgetting its glorious predecessor, but that would be a mistaken judgement. The story is clearly well-linked to the original, and the atmosphere, helped by a new setting and this spot-on atmosphere and writing combination, deliver a true Alan Wake experience. If you're a fan, this full-fledged XBLA game is unmissable.

The Stick of Truth is made like a JRPG in its gameplay and like a good 20 hours long episode of South Park in its story. And we love it.

SoulCalibur VI is a solid fighting game that offers good mechanics and a lot of content to enjoy some legendary fights with weapons. But the roster feels limited and, in terms of visuals, the game seems to have the same design than SoulCalibur V.

A combination of the best of Sonic, Sonic Generations reinvents, while staying true to the myth, and serves the fan well, whatever its generation is. It's an anthology of the musics, the pictures, the bosses, characters and levels we loved the most during those past 20 years of Sonic games, and one that, while not perfect (some gameplay imprecisions do subsist), remains a must-have for the Sonic lovers.

Battlefield V is a good surprise with a new teamplay system (support by intelligent heal mechanics), more destruction, customization and specialization system for weapons and vehicles. Definitively Battlefield V is a monumental shooter despite a conventional single-player (which stays interesting).

Ninja Gaiden 4 definitely breathes new life into the iconic franchise, thanks in large part to a dream partnership with action game masters Platinum Games. The result is a game with truly frantic, exhilarating gameplay that's also very intuitive and offers just the right amount of challenge to appeal to both veterans and newcomers. However, the combat can at times be a little chaotic, the visuals are not groundbreaking, and the somewhat clumsy recycling of assets to justify Ryu Hayabusa's return is a bit of a letdown. Nevertheless, we can then reunite with the legendary hero in all his glory thanks to generous endgame content, after completing a relatively short but undeniably intense main story. Pure adrenaline for fans of challenges and ninjas, and one of the best pure action games of a year 2025 already brimming with excellent titles.

Star Wars Jedi Survivor is in every way superior to Fallen Order. A real big sequel extremely generous on all levels, which multiplies the novelties. Whether it's in terms of structure, by offering infinitely larger regions than the first opus, or even open worlds that can be explored, or in terms of gameplay. Cal may be an accomplished Jedi from the start, but his rise to power is clear throughout the game. Battles, as well as exploration, benefit from a ton of new features that totally revitalize the recipe and still leave plenty of room for manoeuvre for a possible sequel. The only downside is that Jedi Survivor is so easy on the narrative that it completely undermines the game and its dramatic dimension. Some twists and characters are shoehorned in and also lose some of their beauty. An excellent game that doesn't lack much to be unmissable.

Darkest Dungeon 2 is a great sequel to an already great games. Red Hook Studios took risks by changing the way the game plays itself but it becomes one of the main strength of this new game which as adapted to the time. If you like hard RPG, tough but passionate experience, Darkest Dungeon 2 is probably made for you.

Harmonix keeps pushing forward and refining its concept with this third episode. More content, more fun, more polish, really enjoyable multiplayer modes, it's all in there for cool evenings with friends and solo fun, even though the formula remains the same.

The Creator of Dead Space is back to horror and it hits hard. The Callisto Protocol is an intense, violent and old-school survival-horror. A game with a sense of horrific aesthetics that hits the nail on the head, a delightful atmosphere carried by a devastating sound design and a solid, brutal and gore combat system. Very Good.

With Jurassic World Evolution 3, Frontier Developments delivers the most complete and polished entry in the series so far. The studio didn’t reinvent the formula but refined it in almost every way. Natural breeding, modular building, improved animations, and global park management finally bring the depth and cohesion the previous games lacked. It’s not perfect, micromanagement is still light, AI can be clumsy, and systems like finances or faction contracts could use more bite. But despite these flaws, the game remains a joy to play. You can easily lose hours building, tweaking, and simply admiring the prehistoric world you’ve brought back to life.

Fans will tell you that you do not play to EDF for graphics or technology, but for what it is: a funny thing done seriously. We like EDF as we like a good B-movie, where you can clearly see the hidden actor under the Godzilla disguise, destroying a cardboard-made city.

Four years after its original release, Valiant Hearts celebrates the centenary of the Armistice with this Switch release. With the same strong experience remaining unchanged, it still is a pleasure to (re)discover Emile or Kurt's destinies, thanks to the beautiful UbiArt Framework. With only two bonuses taking the form of an animated comic book and a regular artbook, Valiant Hearts still deserves another look, whether or not you already experienced it.

With its very efficient Ring-Con and a funny RPG game, Ring fit Adventure is a brilliant way to workout without even noticing it. If there is motivation, and a lot of space, you'll be able to do what you want to, at your own pace, with a few smiles. A very pleasant successor to Wii Fit, indeed.

Sound Shapes is a fresh take on platformers. Visually varied and original, its stages are combining the talents of different couples made of a musician and a graphic artist, and its a delight to discover and play their contribution level after level. Plus, the community tools for level creation will take over once you're done with the campaign.

REANIMAL follows directly in the footsteps of the studio's previous titles. Far from trying to reinvent the wheel, Tarsier simply does what it does best: immersing us in a dark and unsettling experience, driven by an uncompromising minimalism. Of course, this doesn't prevent the creators of Little Nightmares from refining their formula, with welcome additions and adjustments here and there. But beware of the feeling of déjà vu that is slowly but surely starting to creep in…

A very good port. If you don't have a PC and want to discover Civilization VI, head straight to this Switch version. The game is nearly identical, except it doesn't include the Rise and Fall extension nor the multiplayer mode. For the rest, it is the same game, the same pleasure that you can carry wherever you want. You will just have to be patient at the end of a game, because each turn will last quite a long time.

No need to Argue, Continuum Shift is a real gem, like its predecessor was. Its 2D visuals are more impressive than ever, is gameplay modes comprehensive, its characters unique and the changes they went through balanced the game enough to make it one of the top fighting games on HD consoles. Even the Online Versus play has been enhanced, and is now more comfortable, with solo play in-between duels like in SSFIV. Last but not least, BBCS has tutorial modes and a system to ease some combos, to ease in newcomers and make it more accessible.

As a whole, id Software's game is more than solid, but it still lacks a decent third act, with a scenario that would have focused a little more on the mystery of the apocalypse for example - but more importantly, its underwhelming (to say the least) ending sequence is a stain on an otherwise brilliant world, atmosphere and game design. Controller in hand, it still is a great game to play, with a brilliant gameplay mashup and various neat ideas. This time though, id Software delivered "only" a great game, not a masterpiece.

Final Fantasy 16 is more an evolution than a revolution. It's an ode to the license, a reinterpretation of the myth as rarely seen, and a spectacular game. It's an accomplished modern vision, an assertive turn to action with near perfect gameplay but which has almost nothing left of an RPG. A remarkable game full of sincerity.
