Too many times the word masterpiece has been used in an improper way, losing its real meaning. So, Super Mario Galaxy 2 is not a masterpiece. Is something words just can't describe, standing tall above all those canons which normally define a videogame. Its incredible level design, its addictive fun, shining graphics and a wonderful score make it an extremely well crafted jewel, one that's destined to shine forever in the history of videogames.

Ultimately Baldur's Gate 3 is, in no uncertain terms, a shining jewel of design and programming, so deep, layered and sumptuous that it can be considered the new golden standard of the genre: a benchmark of prodigious magnitude that will be a real nightmare for anyone want to embark, in the future, on the development of titles belonging to the same category. Where many would have crashed to the ground by replicating the myth of Icarus and the Sun, Larian Studios triumphs and brings a sequel to PC that in many ways even surpasses its illustrious predecessors. In short, the throne of the best RPG of the generation has just been claimed.

One of the best adventure games ever made. A playful and artistic titan, who gulps down the hours in a single bite, in a sumptuous banquet of possibilities, creativity, imagination. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom may not have the disruptive impact that Breath of the Wild had because it grows from its roots, given the direct sequel nature. However, it bears new fruit. He possesses - and it is a great conquest - the courage to implement another type of revolution, enlarging, refining and ennobling every virtue of his predecessor. The legacy of the first Link epic on Nintendo Switch is still felt, both for better and for worse. With the legacy of a glorious past, Tears of the Kingdom builds a magnificent present, and opens wide the horizons for the future of the series. In fact, it has the power to stay connected to memory. Like a memory. Beyond the time.

The relationship between vastness of the experience and density of content makes this expansion a very valid product that literally kept us glued to the screen for dozens and dozens of hours. The new weapons, spells and sorceries also greatly enrich the already vast list of tools at your disposal and, in any new game plus, it will be impossible for you to do without them. Exciting, recognizable and modern, Resident Evil 4 is the example of how to make a remake. The team directed by Yasuhiro Anpo has managed to preserve the spirit of the source material, reintroducing memorable sections, spine-chilling settings and an iconic bestiary with few rivals. However, the whole adventure has undergone changes of various nature and extent, sometimes more showy, sometimes more subtle, but not insignificant for this. Leon's investigation in Europe pushes the accelerator on the action dynamics but without betraying the survival horror cornerstones of the series, also thanks to the work previously done by Capcom on the second chapter. Thanks to these attentions, the comparisons with the abominations of the Illuminados have maintained the right amount of tension and the lugubrious atmospheres of some scenarios have been further enhanced. Always in line with the world of B-movies, even the plot now enjoys greater solidity, testifying to a process of updating the experience that has left nothing to chance. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is a very valid title, which once again demonstrates the enormous commitment made by the Square Enix team in the reconstruction and expansion of the seventh final fantasy. Blood & Wine is hands down one the best expansions in the whole videogame history. Thousands of quests, a new fascinating region to explore, original gameplay mechanics. And it brings solid improvements to the user interface and the combat system. There wouldn't have been a better way to say goodbye to the Witcher.

At least as regards the playful and narrative component, the re-edition for PC and home console of Dragon Quest XI S is confirmed as a product of impeccable quality. Being a port of the Switch version, the graphic compromises have remained almost unchanged, but this time the title compensates for its artistic shortcomings with a doubled frame rate, almost zero loading times and a resolution finally in 4k, which consequently guarantee very high performance level.

Overwatch is the new dimension of competitive play. A step forward in the genre, an hypertrophic heir to Team Fortress: each of the 21 heroes represent a class, and the concept of asymmetrical balancing is just brilliant. On the other side, the game is not that fun if you play it alone, and the absence of ranked match is unacceptable.

Assassin's Creed 2 is miles away form the first chapter. It's a whole new game, different in many aspects. The main quest is involving and nice to play, and the number of side mission and extra activities is impressive (and all of them are fun to play). The setting is peculiar and unique, and the panoramic views are sharp and, somehow, magic.
