The best economic simulation game in years. Cities: Skylines does everything SimCity wanted to do and is one of the best ways to spend free time that I can think of. [05/2015, p.68]

The most interesting premise of LA Cops – the fact that you control two policemen – is squandered by your buddy’s poor AI and the lack of co-op mode. Said AI is unpredictable in a bad way, so tactical planning is basically out of the picture unless you call hiding behind a corner with a shotgun and sending your partner as a bait a tactic. One of those little things that would work much better on a bus to work. It’s got simple mechanics, the turns are short and it can help you stretch out your brain. [05/2015, p.67]

I kept wondering whether the developer first came up with a brawler and then added the whole card game dressing to avoid expanding the arcade component or was it the other way around. Whatever the case may be the game is unique, I’ll give it that, but it doesn’t mean it’s good. [05/2015, p.66]

Oblitus was so close to being a really good game. It’s inspired by philosophy that stands behind Dark Souls’ design but strays from it in some key elements and having nothing to lean on in these aspects comes across as unpolished and not properly thought through. [5/2015, p.65]

Pleasant exploration and interesting turn-based combat are unfortunately counterbalanced by too much backtracking, over-the-top number of fights and not very functional map. [05/2015, p.65]

It’s the same game on PC and iOS, which explains its simplicity and low difficulty level. It just wasn’t designed to steal months of your life, but works great in short, relaxing sessions. [05/2015, p.64]

A very good action game, but a weak Souls game – and even From Software and Sony were referring to Bloodborne as a Souls game. It’s got a solid basis – mixing Dark Souls’ it’s-gonna-be-hard-but-it’s-worth-the-pain character with faster pace – but it’s dragged down by some technical issues (e.g. loading times and framerate instability) and dubious gameplay design choices. I took interest in Ori by chance, looking for something colorful for my kid. What I found instead was the hardest but also the best metroidvania of this decade. It became this year’s most pleasant surprise for me and I plan to return to it regularly for years to come. [05/2015, p.58]

It’s not your typical Battlefield, but if you don’t mind trading military uniform for a police badge, you can buy the game and enjoy long hours of fun playing cops and robbers online. The single player campaign is not worth your time. [05/2015, p.54]

You can play Helldivers alone but there’s not much point to it, because it’s the co-op that’s teeming with dramatic moments that make this twin-stick shooter easy to fall in love with. Not for a lifetime maybe, but for a dozen evenings of heroism, sacrifice and brotherhood in arms. [05/2015, p.52]

It’s not that I regret those couple of hours I spent with Wrong Number, but for every advantage there’s a drawback, for every ‘I had fun’ there’s a ‘but’ and for every ‘wow!’ there’s a ‘meh’. [05/2015, p.50]

The problem with Rebellion’s whole zombie series is that the developers were unable to supplement their great sniping mechanics with equally good content, so gameplay quickly becomes repetitive, even tedious. I can’t imagine anyone completing all three campaigns in single player mode. Co-op is more enjoyable, which is not a surprise, as the whole game was designed around it. [05/2015, p.48]

The game has its shortcomings, but until I completed it (in 60 hours) Pillars of Eternity was my air, my food, my life, my last thought when I was going to sleep (if I went to sleep at all, that is) and the first when I was waking up. I would come to the office sleepy, drink a bucket of energy drinks and feel the same excitement that overwhelmed me ten years ago when I played BioWare’s games. [05/2015, p.42]

Karmaflow absolutely should not have been released in a state that would be pathetic even for majority of early access titles. It’s ugly, clunky and crawling with bugs that range from small but annoying to progress-halting. The game just falls to pieces right in front of you. [04/2015, p.66]

I like games that let me know that what I do matters or at least build a believable illusion of my indispensability. The Order: 1886 did not need me at all. It seems it was made by people who would rather do movies than games and the player is a hindrance for them. When it becomes available for free on PS Plus though, it will be worth downloading because it looks great and offers 5-6 hours of decent, even if derivative fun. [04/2015, p.60]

Remastered edition tried to get rid of some nuisances of the original, but still it’s a game designed for an old, very limited console. However, if you wish to catch up on classics, first go for Ocarina of Time, then obligatorily check out Majora’s Mask. [04/2015, p.59]
