If you miss Doom, you miss what I anticipate to be one of two most important first person shooters of 2016. The classic returns in great shape, with all its vital elements intact. Give the campaign some time to pick up speed and it will pump your veins full of adrenaline. [07/2016, p.38]

Although in terms of gameplay mechanics The Old Republic closely resembles World of Warcraft, it's not just another MMO. It's a full-blooded RPG that makes your character important from the start and tells stories that are worth following. It also allows you to enjoy them alone if you're not keen on that whole multiplayer thing. There are a lot of unknowns in TOR's future but I keep my fingers crossed for it to be bright. Ubisoft acquired Nintendo’s license, added some Rabbids in the mix and entrusted the game to its Italian studio that never developed any large game on its own. What’s more, neither the studio nor both IPs had anything to do with tactical games. I still don’t understand how Kingdom Battle turned out so good. [11/2017, p.46]

I honestly did not expect such a stellar game. Crash Bandicoot 4 is breathtakingly beautiful, features an amazing soundtrack full of references to the original trilogy, offers tons of content, and thrilled me to bits with its brilliant level design. What’s more, it stayed true to its gameplay roots, while introducing loads of great new mechanics. For me it’s the game of the year. I salute you, Toys For Bob! [12/2020, p.58]

Unlike the 2017 edition, F1 2018 failed to surprise me with the scope and depth of changes it introduces to the series. Basically it is the 2017 edition, but a bit fresher, a tad more modern and somewhat more realistic, which makes it a very good game. [11/2018, p.78]

Anno 117: Pax Romana rejects the industrial revolution, replacing it with stable evolution. New mechanics and improved production chains add freshness and character. A harmonious, patience-demanding strategy where less can mean more.

Heavenly Bodies is a surprisingly enjoyable physics-based puzzle game about an astronaut fixing a space station. Unusual controls and weightlessness can be frustrating, but most of the time they are really fun. The game shines especially in local co-op, where clumsy interactions between two astronauts are often amusing.

OlliOlli World is a fun, very accessible game that lets you easily pull of many tricks, fly over chasms and slide on dinosaur bones as you explore an enticing wacky world. What I don’t like about Roll7’s latest creation, was its narrative side, a sudden difficulty spike by the end and the lack of a good level editor.

Batman’s Creed: Shadow of Mordor – Monolith’s inspirations are so obvious that you could call their game a rip-off. Its greatest sin though is the fact that it fails to vary gameplay the way Assassin’s Creed or Batman do and offers almost nothing apart from killing stuff and playing with the Nemesis system (which, I admit, has its moments). I got so tired with its repetitiveness that I wouldn’t have finished the game if I didn’t have to. [Dec 2014, p.48]

I had tons of fun with the PC version of Horizon Zero Dawn. I appreciated the story, enjoyed exploring the vast, remarkable world crafted masterfully out of extremely diverse elements, and found defeating the largest mechanical beasts to be deeply satisfying every single time. Additionally, the Complete Edition features The Frozen Wilds expansion, which is not only large, but also visually stunning. [10/2020, p.56]

A fighting game that you just can't miss! Controls are friendly and satisfying and the level of thrill Street Fighter X Tekken delivers is over the top. It's a pity that game modes seem half-baked and Blanka is available in DLC only. [May 2012, p.62]

The latest Halo is a big deal only for hardcore Halo fans. For me the single player campaign was unbearably pompous and despite 1080p and 60 fps the visuals are not as breathtaking as they once were in Halo 4. The game builds a solid foundation for Halo 6, but it’s not one of those games you absolutely have to play. [13/2015, p.48]

A very good adaptation of a board game that occupied one of the top spots of the BoardGameGeek list. The rules are the same, so the goal is to create new habitats for birds and attract as many specimens as possible. The game has a great tutorial, obvious educational values (I wish it presented more information about the species though), and the cards are lovely, but it is a shame that only North American birds are included.
