Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is one of those experiences that redefine your concept of what an RPG can be. What Sandfall Interactive has achieved in their debut is simply astonishing: a narrative that captivates you from the first second with adult characters facing complex moral dilemmas; a revolutionary turn-based combat system that transforms each encounter into a strategic dance full of tension; and a visually stunning world that masterfully blends Belle Époque with dark fantasy. The conversations at the campfires have made me laugh, cry, and reflect on life itself. Its bosses have challenged me like few games manage to do. And its soundtrack continues to resonate in my head weeks after finishing the adventure. More than a game, it's an interactive work of art that will remain in my memory for years. Without exaggeration, one of the best debuts from a studio that I've seen in decades as both a player and critic.

Maliki: Poison of the Past is a pleasantly surprising game. It offers an innovative combat system, a visually enchanting world, and charismatic characters. Its flaws, though present, don't overshadow the many things it does well.

The long wait has finally come to an end, and it was well worth it: Assassin's Creed Shadows is an incredible experience by Ubisoft taking place in a beautiful feudal Japan. The game boasts an incredible number of activities and side quests which considerably enlarge the game's overall length, and even complement the main plot adding some relevant data. Yasuke and Noe are very different characters, especially when it comes to batlle, but in the end the two of them are equally enjoyable. The icing on the cake comes from both the visual aspect as well as the sound design, which definitely help providing the most immersive of experiences.

And the thing is that Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition stands out for practically the same reasons as its sister installments: fun gameplay, a good story, charismatic characters (although in this work they are not as much as in other titles in the saga) and, above all, a world that is overwhelming to see and explore due to how vast it is. Huge, yes. And also very dangerous, as I mentioned in the analysis. But it is a joy to get lost and discover scenarios, each one more impressive than the last, with scenarios that are the envy of many current open worlds.

Suikoden I & II HD Remaster does a nice job at remastering two classic entries that were once absolute references in the JRPG genre. There are a bunch of improvements, such as the noticeable increase in battle speed as well as the ability to easily enable the auto-battle mode. However, the UI still lacks elements to actually make this feel like a revolutionary step-up when it comes to user experience.

Split Fiction is the resulting product of taking the core elements of what made It Takes Two such a great game and just brainstorming all kinds of entertaining and unexpected concepts. Hazelight has done it once again, and you should expect to see the new game by Josef Fares's team amongst the most highly regarded games in The Game Awards 2025.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Early Days Collection is the definitive compilation of classic handheld titles from its reign over card games. These are simple, unbalanced games, but charming and highly addictive. It doesn't seek to reinvent itself or compete within the genre, but rather to offer fans a gift that will relive a fun-filled era.

Monster Hunter Wilds is a natural evolution of the series, improving on almost every aspect of its predecessors. While the main campaign can be a bit short, the real game begins in the post-game, where the possibilities multiply and the challenges become truly exciting.

It remains to be seen how this work will end with film number 2, which will be released next April, but for now, we have been delighted by Lost Records: Bloom & Rage. It offers a narrative adventure full of very charismatic characters, impeccable artistic design and a soundtrack used with skill at the most appropriate moments.

After more than 30 hours of gameplay, I can safely say that Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is exactly the kind of madness we needed. It's a game that embraces the absurdity of its premise and turns it into its greatest strength. The story kept me engaged, the characters are memorable, and every aspect of the game is bursting with personality.

Avowed demonstrates that Obsidian remains a studio capable of challenging RPG genre conventions. They've created a more focused experience that seeks to innovate in fundamental gameplay mechanics. The combination of vertical exploration, magical combat, and complex narrative points to a title that aims to rise above genre clichés. However, the game suffers from fundamental inconsistencies that prevent it from reaching its full potential. The lack of voice acting, fragmented narrative, limited NPCs, and reduced content variety burden a proposition that promises more than it ultimately delivers. The ability to switch between perspectives, far from being innovative, ends up undermining immersion rather than enhancing it.

Civilization VII represents the most ambitious leap forward in the series' history. Firaxis has managed to modernize the formula while maintaining the essence that has made the series great. The introduction of the Dynamic Eras system, the revamping of combat and diplomacy, along with improvements to urban development, create an experience that feels fresh and familiar at the same time.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is a masterpiece that has achieved the impossible: improving on its predecessor in every aspect while maintaining its essence. Despite its demanding initial learning curve, it offers a unique and rewarding experience that rewards patience and dedication with unforgettable moments. A cinematic narrative, high-quality side quests, and hours of entertainment are the major incentives to help Henry in one of the year's best adventures.

Tails of Iron 2 has made it pretty clear to me that Odd Bug Studio understands how to make a sequel: keeping the essence while expanding the possibilities. Death Trap proves that the series' basic formula is still a hell of a lot of fun. The moments of triumph, when your traps work in perfect sync, or when you throw an orc into a lava pit and watch it bounce off the saw blades, are still just as satisfying as they were a decade ago.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle stands as one of the best video games of 2024 and living proof that MachineGames is a studio that knows how to move skillfully in environments different from those we've been accustomed to in the past. Neon Blood is a truly outstanding graphic adventure whose plot captivates you from the start, constantly inviting you to continue its development while exploring each and every corner that is part of the city of Viridis. Ending all corruption and returning peace to the streets and inhabitants of the city will only be possible if detective Axel McCain, in the company of his allies, overthrows the dangerous powers present. If, in addition to liking graphic adventures, you are passionate about pixel art, you will love this 'Made in Spain' title.
