The iOS version of Gravinaytor is a basically good game suffering from a case of bad port-itis. It still has some genuinely fun moments, but they're tucked inside questionable controls that fight the player every step of the way. Unfortunate, but nothing a good update can't fix.

The bright colors and fabulous visuals, the retro style and the chip tune music tracks all work together with the rock-solid gameplay to make Blowup!! one of the best matching games out there. This game should not be missed.

Hope's Quest's mildly inspired look only makes its gameplay seem that much less inspired by comparison though.

Vermes on Mars looks great and plays well. It is a challenging game, but the difficulty is well balanced and players shouldn't find themselves getting stuck for too long on any one level.

An exciting and addictive bike game. Clever gameplay, fluid graphics and challenging levels make Bike Baron an instant classic.

A well done game and it really shows off its polished visuals and mechanics.

It's a very good game that's a lot of fun. It's just that the original offers pretty much the exact same experience with a lot more content and modes. If someone already owns Fruit Ninja, I can't really think of a reason why they'd also want this version. Unless they're a huge fan of the movie or the actor, anyway.

Part of what hampered the controls for me was the lack of lateral space in portrait mode. Combined with the fairly wide flock awareness circles, this left me having to carefully micromanage strategic sheep maneuvers with tiny movements that rendered time bonuses almost impossible to get after the first couple of chapters.

I hate to turn my nose up at such a pretty and theoretically cool game, but the controls really do drag the whole experience down.

I've been enjoying what Galaxy Pirate Adventure has to offer quite a bit, but it didn't take very long for me to wish there was more. Mining, escort missions, anything. Anything to break up the monotonous loop of travel-shoot.

Crazy Escape's cartoon style graphics suit the game perfectly and add humor. It's hard not to laugh as the sheep are dragged mercilessly behind the jeep. This is a great introduction to path drawing games for younger gamers, but packs a fast-paced challenge for even a seasoned finger-pilot.

Make no qualms about it, this is a great puzzle game for iOS. The world is gorgeous, the puzzles difficult, and the story interesting. Gamers looking for a puzzle game that finally breaks the mold, has quite a bit of character, and can adjust to the controls will find a great value in this title.

While the concept and gameplay of Incredible Express aren't new or revolutionary, I find it to be a great hybrid of game elements that players have come to love.

Monster Warrior isn't a groundbreaking game by any means. It does justice to the slice and dice style of its genre, but there are a few things it could be doing better to stack up more favorably against the competition. That said, players looking for a spooky slicing game to help them get into the Halloween spirit may like this one.

Aside from being just plain fun, there's also plenty of reason to revisit Bring Me Sandwiches!! once it's in the bag.

Virtual City Playground is still enjoyable and the series of missions certainly adds to the appeal. For the hardened gamer however, restrictions can turn frustrating. Players with limited amounts of free time will lap Virtual City Playground up as a worthy alternative to Virtual City.

Worms Crazy Golf is an all-in-one entertainment pack that includes exciting gameplay, exploding worms and some very difficult obstacles to overcome on the way to a hole in one. This game is fun for golfers and non-golfers who don't mind adding a few strokes onto their game to explore the course and unlock a few surprises.

Fara is a well polished action RPG from a small team. The game may not be epic in scale, but it seems about the right size for a small device and it is compelling enough to merit a look. The hand-painted environments are beautifully crafted, and the dialogue is funny even if a bit over the top at times.

There are plenty of physics-based puzzlers with swinging mechanics on iOS, but Climber Brothers still manages to stand out in spite of its rather derivative tubby brothers. At that price it's hardly a hike for your wallet.

Just an absolute joy. With mechanics that are nearly perfect, and a style that is difficult to out-do, this is a game that must be checked out by anyone who likes endless runner games, or anyone who just likes to feel happy while they play. This game is just fun.

From the difficulty to the combat, to even just the way the game feels like it was yanked straight out of a SNES, there is a lot to love here.

Just the fact that this is a Bungie game should alone be enough to garner the interest of any gamer. Combine that with the freemium pricing model that gives you the first chapter of the game for free, and this is a surefire shot of success.

Skillz takes plenty of practice but it's a rewarding title nonetheless. It captures the spirit of console based music games perfectly with some impressive production values making it all the better.

Each character class has its own strengths and weaknesses, each level has a host of hidden contraptions with which to cause chaos, and every weapon packs a powerful punch, but the control issues – coupled with the graphical stuttering and lack of gameplay variety – just don't equate to much replay value.

The lack of an option to play a match with a random opponent severely limits the game's playability though so players should make sure to share the game with their friends if they plan on playing it much. The game looks great, it's simple, and the matches are satisfying.

I was initially interested in this game for its unique take on the castle defense genre, but its slow gameplay kept me from truly being immersed in the experience.

If looked at from a distance NBA 2K12 seems like a competent vehicle for playing basketball on the go. Sadly, upon closer inspection, the luster of an incomplete development cycle and poor overall execution of the sport's fundamental gameplay make it nearly impossible to recommend.

For a newcomer to tower defense games, Gem Keepers is the perfect place to start. For those who already love the genre, Gem Keepers is a no-brainer. Get it.

Leather jacket, pumped up kicks, blingy blang, green skin, sunken nose, yellow and clotted eyes, yeah, that is Chompy, my pet zombie and she is hecka cool. Easy gameplay, a little addicting, not too gross or gory, My Pet Zombie is fun and pretty cute. For a zombie.

Powder Monkey is a well polished RPG that is fun to play, looks great, and doesn't get bogged down with complex battle systems or an incomprehensible plot. The gameplay is simple and the game looks great.

A cute game, with bright and engaging graphics, great music, cute sound effects and just plain fun gameplay. With easy controls and a simple learning curve, FatCat Rush is great for everyone in the house.

Surge is a funky tapper that has converted this non-believer.

This is a great film trivia game that is simple to play and has more to enjoy than just correctly answering questions. The game's images are so well done, the effect is positively spooky. Film buffs will appreciate FilmWise Invisibles and they will really enjoy the images.

Punch A Hole is a no-frills puzzler that even the seasoned gamer will find brain tickling. The gameplay is straightforward and fun, the learning curve is quick for each new element, and the challenges tough. Add Game Center challenges to the list and we have ourselves a new go-to game.

A great idea that comes up slightly short in practice, Helium Boy is still one of the few original 3D platformers in the App Store that deserves your attention.

The game is simple, no doubt, but the challenge it provides gives it the feeling of a more complex game without complicated gameplay mechanics getting in the way.

Danger Alliance: Battles is a solid title although one that would benefit from future updates. Speedier enemy AI would be welcome as well as the much promised single player campaign. Despite such niggles, currently on sale at $1.99, it's a good time to jump onboard the Danger Alliance: Battles ship.

The real question in all of this is, would I recommend Trade Nations? Absolutely. It's free, fairly addicting and is a great way to kill those occasional 3 minutes of nothing to do.

The game is just plain satisfying to play and the ever-present draw of earning better gear is a great motivator. I'm not too keen on the way the increasing difficulty can back players into a corner if they're saving for a particular gun (and completed stages can't be replayed), and money takes a long time to earn, but that's just how it is. I mean it's a game about shooting zombies. What else does anyone need to know, really?

Based on its interesting game mechanics, twist on the generations old house fly and challenging race to the finish, Fly Run is a solid flying adventure.

Combining online strategy, role-playing elements, and a unique fantasy setting, Chronicles of Merlin is an entertaining game that provides plenty of cheap thrills and excitement.

I highly recommend Miner 2049er as both a nostalgic experience and as a just plain fun iOS game. The free content runs out pretty fast (only 4 levels are available), but it's fun while it lasts.

RobotRiot's a bit refreshing when many other platformers are going to the hyper-short route, and the level design that extends out vertically as well as horizontally is well-done as well. It feels a bit stiff at times, but is a solid experience overall.

This game is visually-stunning, and its missions have a great sense of scope to them.

The characters are cute and well designed, the levels are challenging yet not brutal, the music is bright and lively, and flinging the squids around the screen is a ton of fun. And we can all use a bit more of that, right?

Everybody can enjoy it, while strategy fans can still get their fix.

SpaceChem isn't the most beautiful of games but it's certainly complex. Controls are easy to use and the concept is perfect for the iPad screen.

The free to play elements are particularly odious here, but if the ads were toned down or removed entirely, the experience would be a lot better.

As it stands though and at its low price, Movie Quotes Hangman is still worth playing for the film buff. Just don't expect it to last forever.

It's what I've always wanted on iOS. There just needs to be more here! This is a wonderful start.

The combination of persistent progression, user generated tracks, and bright neon graphics takes this simple racing game to a whole new level.

Each game might not be powerhouses of the App Store but together, it makes for an entertaining package. The Corona Indie Bundle is a worthy purchase indeed.

Big Buck Safari is fun, but it isn't a very deep game. Animals run, players shoot at them by tapping, that about sums it up. Fans of other hunting titles looking for more environments to hunt in may want to give it a look.

There's just enough content to get a taste, and the multiplayer goes a long way to extending its shelf life.

Isle of Tune HD's hook is ingenious and its creative potential is immense. Even if the iPad isn't necessarily the best way to play it, if that's all someone has this is definitely worth checking out. It's basically GarageBand by way of Will Wright.

It just feels like it's lacking that special something to transform it into a 5-star game.

It just needs a little more polish to become something more than the somewhat average game it is today - the responsiveness of both the touch and tilt controls doesn't feel very tuned, and the tutorial could certainly do with a look-over, as could whatever's causing tricks to not register.

It's more involved than a typical corridor flyer, looks great, plays well and is absolutely loaded with challenge. The price might look a bit scary, but I think fans of this kind of game will get their money's worth here.

I don't consider Dark Meadow a "copy" so much as a new entry in a young genre. A genre that it fits very, very well. Fans of gesture hack-n-slashers, gothic thrillers or both are in for a real treat.

As a puzzle game, Monster Madness HD has a few neat wrinkles but is largely uninspired. It's simple, responsive gameplay combined with it's strong art style will probably make it shine as a way to entertain kids in the Halloween spirit.

With some tweaks this could be a solid mech action game, but as it is now it feels like more of a broken-down wreck.

I'm honestly shocked that PikPok isn't charging money for Slam Dunk King. There's more than enough content and fun here for a non-freemium game. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. It just seems weird.

A great experience and puzzle fans looking for something more from a physics game will really enjoy the game. It looks great as well and it is obvious that the developers have taken the time with MixZle to make sure they've created and released a polished product.

I had my initial doubts about the gameplay mechanics of a falling character as side scrollers are always a sure bet. Then I took High Flyer Death Defyer's for a spin and was surprised at the level of entertainment it provided.

One of the smartest games I've played on iOS, and it demands a kind of precision and planning that other games just don't have. The game works well no matter which platform it's played on, but iPad owners will definitely want to check this out on the larger screen.

A decent game but not a refined experience. R-Type on iOS looks and controls much better. However, gamers that want something that will test every fiber of their reaction and memorization skills will find a great challenge hidden in this game.

The comedic, text-based storyline may not be for everyone. The parodies may not be understood by everyone. But the gameplay is a whole lot of fun, and rewards a player for learning the way in which different items react and for consequently reacting quickly to these items themselves.

This is an extremely faithful port of the original game, all the way down to the input lag. The game is difficult, yet rewarding thanks to each success being well deserved. This is not a game that will appeal to everyone, but any fans of games gone by will find this makes a decent addition to the collection.

An entertaining entry into the jumping genre. The rubber-band mechanic, coupled with a need to be quick and accurate, make this a game that is easily playable for a few minutes, or extended gaming sessions.

It's a fine title to pick up for action puzzle goodness.

For those who never played First Samurai the first time round, there's unfortunately not much to love here. It's just too set in its old ways, keenly demonstrating just how much things have changed in the past 20 years.

Niggles aside, Funpark Friends is respectable enough, it just needs some work doing to it. With a few more social features and a little more functionality in terms of things to do, such as more interaction in the running of the park, this might be something pretty cool.

While ZombiePanic might lack brains, it's by no means a pointless endeavor. It's excellent fun which is pretty much all that anyone could ask for from such a game.

Anyone looking for a new physics game to have a good time experimenting with will enjoy the challenge here.

iOS gamers looking for a challenge from their games will be satisfied by Commander Pixman, as it is extremely difficult.

It's not that Team Hot Wheels Flame Riders isn't fun. It's just a little basic to be true value for money, even at the low price of $0.99.

While Jelly Defense is pretty formulaic, it is fun for a time, until the difficulty level ramps up and players step away out of frustration. It's unfortunate as early levels are quite fun but trial and error does not make a great game, it just annoys.

Fans of arena survival games like Tilt to Live, Hard Lines, and Silverfish ought to check this one out.

A solid app. The problem is I don't know if I'd choose to play it over something like Zynga Poker, which cleverly makes use of user's Facebook network – at least not for Texas Hold 'Em.

When it comes to sci-fi/western mash-up arcade games, I can't think of a better example than Pixel Ranger. It's just simply… endearing.

Fling a Thing manages to combine flinging physics, arcade tomfoolery and just a hint of virtual pet with surprising success.

An enjoyable change from the bounty of other physics-based games. The setting is entertaining, the puzzles challenging, and everything is wrapped up in a humorous package.

While it may not have much in the way of unique gameplay, Mortal Skies 2 is a competent arcade shooter, even if it is on the more difficult end of the spectrum.

A fun physics based game with a quick learning curve, interesting scenes, good music and sound effects, and can potentially have a massive amount of levels once all the themes are created and if the gamer is willing to pay for them.

So now I've finally seen what all the fuss is about.

I was genuinely surprised, however, at how much fun I had with Stinger Foosball League.

Fans of the genre will absolutely love Tiny Defense, it falls second only to PvZ.

With a deep and involving story that goes on for a fair while (depending on the player's ability to solve puzzles or their susceptibility to searching for a walkthrough), 1112 Episode 3 is a great purchase.

This game is best served for the soccer faithful who wants a deep game on the go, more than just the casual player looking for a quick game on the go.

While fans of the Katamari series who can't get enough of the gameplay will love this one, and newcomers will get a chance to see why these strange little games keep getting made, this is hardly fresh. For a series that's so original in design, isn't it time to toy around a bit with the game design? Just mixing up new levels isn't going to cut it.

It's possibly one of the best iOS puzzle games in recent memory, and it's available at a price that's downright foolish to pass up.

This is still an enjoyable game, regardless of the less than perfect controls.

Fans of shooters looking for a game with high production values and console-quality gameplay scaled down for mobile will love this. Just be aware that it does pale in comparison in terms of complexity to the big-name console titles that it is inspired by.

Word Ball is another word game which presents a fairly simple mechanic but executes it very well, in its case with medals to collect and OpenFeint for rankings.

TITUS certainly wasn't what I was expecting, but I've had plenty of fun with it. The mini-games kept the simulation aspects from dragging, while those same simulation aspects kept me invested for the long term.

While match-3 games are not exactly the pinnacle of innovation these days, thankfully there are still original takes on the game being made, and there are new types of asynchronous games being made too. Panda Picnic should satisfy my match-3 tastes for a long time.

This simple game has a surprising degree of variation and that keeps the game fresh from stage to stage. Players will enjoy Chicken Frenzy, even if they risk ending up with some egg on their face.
