I have every faith in Chillingo making the multiplayer into something that doesn't induce rage, but right now I'd rather avoid it. Thankfully the singleplayer portion of Spice Invaders is more than enough to satisfy. Barring the occasional ad there's hardly any way of knowing that this is a free-to-play game. I think that alone speaks volumes.

I'd highly recommend trying out more than just the first two chapters of GHOST TRICK: Phantom Detective. They're good, but just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what this game has to offer. Essential for those who like something different.

Reckless Racing 2 improves on all of the original game's features and adds several more goodies such as career mode and car customization. This all combines to make it the best "rubbin's racin'" game on the App Store.

Excluding the screen limitations, 1001 Ultimate Mahjong is a fine game of Mahjong solitaire. It's soothing, relaxing and great fun to lose one's self in. There's hours upon hours of fun to be had and I can see it being a long term favorite for Mahjong fans.

Dungeon Crawlers delivers a solid dungeon crawling experience and its turn based combat works really well even if it's hard to control at times. The game looks great and the characters are humorous at times, but it is visually marred by its uninspired interface design. This game also delivers a good amount of original content for the price with more on the way.

Windosill is a game that I feel should be experienced by everyone. The puzzles are well thought out, it looks and sounds great and has such a unique feel. Really great stuff.

As a physics game, Greedy Penguins is run of the mill and standard, but as a puzzle game it really shines. The puzzles are clever, challenging, and super satisfying to figure out and complete.

Angry Bikes is not an entirely essential part of the endless runner canon on iOS, but it is an entertaining diversion nonetheless.

One of those games that's certainly very interesting, but I don't necessarily think it is all that entertaining as a game. The weirdness will wear off at some point, and unlike Katamari Damacy, the core gameplay mechanics don't lead to anything that's fun to play down the line.

Hank Hazard is a fantastic physics puzzler. Amongst an App Store heaving with the genre, Hank Hazard stands tall, making it an unbeatable example.

This free retro-inspired offering will bring a smirk to the face of anybody who grew up on the 8 and 16-bit eras. Just make sure you're ready for the grind.

This might be the best game in the Minotaur Project yet – its blending of various game types feels original, yet still so very retro. Check this one out.

Even with the somewhat questionably walled-off content, Star Warfare: Alien Invasion is still an excellent and rewarding game. Seriously, I'm kind of geeking out about it. It took me longer than intended to finish writing this because I got caught up in a "research" match. Yeah.

Baseball Superstars 2012 is a solid game, which is proven by the 30 million downloads to-date of the entire franchise. It's a very nicely executed freemium title that offers a ton of gameplay without having to purchase in-app upgrades. Baseball fans will love it.

Whether or not someone enjoys Asteroid 2012 3D depends on how fond the are of the 1979 arcade original and how much fun they have with totally mindless action. I'd never attempt to call it a "deep" experience, but sometimes I don't want deep. Sometimes I just want to blow crap up. And I can think of worse outlets than this.

When it works, Angry Bomber is a solid game with an addictive idea behind it. It has a generous amount of levels too, with 30 on offer. It's just a shame that the action is marred by control issues.

It does what it does well, and it simplifies the experience just enough to make it more accessible to less intense strategists. Assuming they're patient with the UI.

Blade of Darkness shows plenty of promise, and I'm still holding out hope for it, but in its current state it's something of a Hot Mess. It'll no doubt interest (and maybe even entertain) dungeon crawling fans, but it requires an awful lot of patience to endure. Especially in the beginning. Still, with a little fine-tuning it could become quite the thing.

While on its surface, Blocks Hurt! might seem a little too cheesy or low budget for most players, that shouldn't keep anyone from giving this wonderful game a try. It's unique yet familiar at the same time, and it does this without pandering to or alienating the player. Blocks might hurt, but this game makes them hurt so good.

Glitch Tank is a trippy little game. It's a shame that its aesthetic, while appreciated, can be a little hard to look at. Still, it's an experience totally worth having.

Spirit of Wandering – The Legend is a very traditional Hidden Object game but it's a solid example of the genre and quite enjoyable. It won't convert naysayers to the genre but fans will have a great time, much as I did.

Cytus isn't going to challenge the rhythm experts of the world. For those who love the genre but frequently stumble their way through it, however, Cytus is an immensely enjoyable title to play.

Minor irritations about the stubborn selection wheel aside, PyramidVille Adventure is a very entertaining freemium title. It's got all the trappings that… well… trap, as well as a healthy amount of new-ish additions. Whether or not it'll replace someone's farming addictions depends on their love of Egyptian themes, but it's certainly a worthy contender.

At its current price, compared to other apps, it's difficult to recommend The Passenger at the time of writing except to those who really enjoy their adventure games and have money to burn.

It's not groundbreaking, but I can think of worse ways to spend $0.99.

The strategic planning of moves requires more forethought than is initially apparent. I wouldn't be at all surprised for this to become the next big iOS hit (especially if they lower the price for unlimited turns into realistic territory); Spry Fox could well have a winner on their hands here.

Overall, the location-based aspect adds quite a bit of fun to the mafia RPG genre and if patience is the player's virtue then they'll accomplish big things in Life is Crime. If not, then they'll find themselves sleeping with the fishes.

Hatchi is a little piece of gaming history on our iPhones, and for the price of $0.99 it is one well worth looking into.

Where Ash II falls down is in the combat.

Steamscope is a gorgeous game with plenty of eye candy to enjoy, even if players spend most of their time bumping into walls and steam spewing pipes.

Despite the repetitive gameplay, I think Mailboxing is a fun little game for all ages. Younger kids are sure to get a kick out of it, just as long as they don't get any crazy ideas about batting down mailboxes in real life. For $0.99 it's a fair deal for what is given and it's a nice addition to the other mayhem-causing games on the market.

On the one hand, SOULCALIBUR is a 3D fighting game and has really great graphics, fast action, and a high polygon count. On the other hand, SOULCALIBUR is a 3D fighting game and is a complex game system with complex controls.

Arel Wars' strategy gameplay gets easier to comprehend over time, but it's still just too much information thrown at the player to be much fun, and the paywall that the game hits about 20 levels in is just more frustrating than anything. Strategy fans and Gamevil fans may enjoy this, but that's about it.

Niko promises to be an absolutely fantastic game. It looks and sounds great, the controls are smooth and the levels shown hint at some clever stuff in the unlocked version. It's well worth a look.

Smash Cops is ludicrous, and I certainly think that in a world where sitting protesters are pepper sprayed, no current police department should ever be allowed to play this game lest they get the wrong idea from playing. The issues can get annoying, but there's still something viscerally entertaining about smashing cars at high speeds.

While the voice acting isn't the greatest, and the accents and small syntax errors might make some native anglophones cringe a bit, the somewhat dark story of survival is surprisingly engaging.

Escape is a fun, challenging diversion for the retro-minded endless jumping fan.

It's all a very potent mix, but Puzzlejuice is tough. It's great fun and those with an expansive vocabulary will particularly reap the benefits of such a crossover title. In terms of accessibility however, I didn't find it quite as addictive as SpellTower, though it does come close.

The question isn't really about if the new version is a must have as there were already two million downloads to prove the popularity of the new gaming style. The heart of the matter is a comparison between Breakout Boost+ and the recently released Breakout Boost. To be honest, I'm a big fan of pay up front, especially when it's a game that I know I'm going to love.

Stop Those Fish is a quirky aquatic spin on classic arcade game type and it has lots of character. Unfortunately, it takes more than that to make a game really fun to play again and again. While this game works really well, it just doesn't seem to have the staying power to pull gamers back time after time.

In short bursts Urban Crime can be enjoyable. However, the problems raised throughout this review means that any fun had is often negated before too long.

Legion of the Damned is one of the better iOS strategy games I've played, but the eight-turn limit is a deal-breaker.

This game may be a AAA title for the gaming giant, but it is 13 years old, putting it somewhere in the hinterlands between classic and dated.

Its not just a clever idea, it's a clever idea wrapped in an extremely alluring (and well put-together) package. One that's totally worth playing.

Combining two types of gameplay means that Feed 'em up is excellent value for money. They're both fun too, although I found the Appetizer significantly more satisfying, purely for being so challenging. It's well worth a look for puzzle fans.

Order Up! To Go is a solid time-management game for those looking to become the next "Top Chef." Despite the freemium version's ad-stricken gameplay, there's a lot of addictive potential to be unlocked.

Overall I think Sketch Up is a fun and a unique way to experiment with shapes. It has a good, fast-paced tempo that will keep players on their toes as they attempt to complete each level with all three stars. Sketch Up has a lot to offer and has enough variations to keep players wanting more.

This is the rare interactive book that will genuinely entertain the whole family.

Bit-1 is a great game, and so much fun to play. It is challenging in the way a platformer should be, but not just because of lame controls. Players will enjoy making their way through the lush bit-filled environments, laying waste to tons of well designed enemies. This is simply one of the finest platformers to be found on the iPhone.

Disappointingly, both the analog and tilt controls remain stiff and difficult.

Similar game mechanics have been used elsewhere but it works well within Subcat forming an enjoyable and challenging title. My only slight concern is the accuracy when tapping but other than that, it's a fun one to drop in on for short doses.

Those who want their games to be a little more complicated, as well as those who want their games to be nice to animals, may be justifiably put off by Mushroom Madness. However, anyone looking to indulge with some dumb, savage fun should give it a look.

With the addition of new settings with the charm of Circus, more robust multiplayer action – and my personal wish – an endless mode that gets progressively harder, Woody Woodpecker could be epic. As it stands, it's a great bet for kids, a kick for nostalgia junkies and for all, at $.99 for a universal build, it definitely offers some ha-ha-ha-HA-ha's!

While it's a nice attempt at replicating our beloved Mario Kart, it does come up short in my opinion with the lack of on-screen controls and multiplayer mode.

Mos Speedrun is a game that fans of retro platformers should definitely check out. The speedrun level format fits for short-burst on-the-go gaming, and the level designs are perfectly made to be played in several ways.

For those of a certain age who loved adventure game books, it's the perfect app to play and one that players will find themselves returning to. Not least because they'll have to be pretty skilled to 'win'!

It's all fine but nothing more than average. Nothing makes it stand out from the crowd, not even the attractive hand-painted backgrounds.

It's a ridiculous amount of fun.

There is a lot to like about Prizma. With its 90 levels and levels and rich game environment, I found it to be very appealing for any puzzle game lover.

Zombie Wonderland 2 isn't the next revolutionary, groundbreaking zombie slaying title but it does what it does well and with simple controls, too. There are a lot of zombies out there. Time to thin their ranks a bit, and enjoy doing it.

There is a lot that I would change about Star Marine: Infinite Ammo, particularly to make it more in line with the games that inspired it, but what's here is rather intriguing and fun. Flawed, but there is fun to be had.

StreetBike: Full Blast really has a lot of issues to fix, particularly to make it feel like a more polished product. Until then, this is just an unspectacular racing game, even if it is one of the few motorcycle racers on the App Store.

The gameplay is fairly bland, though, and there isn't much variation in the environment. The cars and trucks are all carbon copies of each other, and the road just continues straight ahead into infinity.

It's a challenging title, much like Geometry Wars, but a fun one nonetheless.

With such a low cost of entry, Stretch the Puzzle is a real winner for anyone who remembers the fun that is to be had with a good old fashioned tile puzzle.

With a ton of extra levels and characters planned for future updates, I think it would be silly to pass this one up.

I could easily overlook Wicket – The Beginning's control issues if it weren't for the fact that the gameplay serves zero purpose. There's no progression of any kind, save watching the numbers next to the gold coin, sword and shield go up. It's a shame, really. I think this game could be pretty cool if any of it actually lead to something.

Can be pretty fun. It's certainly not as robust as other more popular games in the genre but it offers a more unique experience. One that I'd gladly recommend to people who enjoy this kind of stuff.

Yes, a few cheap deaths aside, Don't Run With a Plasma Sword is another solid endless runner with a little bit of action-platformer thrown in. So throw the instruction manual out the window and give this one a try if you're a fan of the genre. Did I mention the theremin? It really is rather neat.

The environments in Street Wrestler are simply gorgeous. The cell shaded art style, the detailed design, and the dynamically animated backgrounds all make this game one serious piece of stylish eye candy. The controls aren't flawless, but they work well enough that the player can focus on fighting bad guys instead the controls.

Legendary Heroes is still fun in small doses. It starts to fumble a bit as it progresses because the smaller margin for error magnifies a couple of minor (but significant) issues, though.

It's a shame, really. If it weren't for the camera/controls combination, Asteroids 2012 would be a pretty fun game. With less-twitchy controls and a more user-friendly camera, it would be an easy recommendation for arcade lovers. But even after (yes, after) an update, it still suffers from the same problems. Still, there's potential here.

The retro 8-bit graphics are seriously entertaining and every one of the 160 life stages has its own unique graphic representation. Quick games and the seemingly endless payout of entertaining life stage shifts will keep players burning through lives as quickly as they possibly can.

I was genuinely surprised to find myself playing Fluff Friends Rescue so incessantly. It can turn into a major problem when there are important real life things to do. Animal lovers should consider that both praise and a warning.

For the most part Foodie the Bug is an enjoyable game. Just be prepared to see the 'fail' screen over and over again.

More maps or more zombies would be nice, but really I'm just holding on to hope for an eventual way to bypass the super-boring early waves. Still, it's bound to keep action lovers occupied for a while.

I don't see this game being meant for older audiences but this crazy medieval-themed carnival is sure to keep kids busy for hours.

On many fronts Law & Order: Legacies is an outstanding re-creation of the crime procedural in interactive form. However, lackluster voice acting and minimal variety in game mechanics prevent this from being something that will appeal beyond the franchise's fan base.

Vlambeer deserve credit for making a fantastic game, and along with Halfbot, they deserve a ton of credit for making this a shining example of how to bring this kind of game to mobile properly. Even after all the weapons were unlocked, I still found myself chasing after the unlockable characters and modes that require superhuman-level performances in order to succeed. This sets a high bar for other iOS releases to try and match this year.

Lunar Racer's fast-paced take on the action racer has a lot going for it, and is definitely worth keeping an eye on in the future. There's plenty of room for more tracks, modes, and vehicles. Noodlecake Studios does not disappoint with this one.

I really wanted to like Chicken Rain, there is some potential fun game play with this app. However, with the constant interruption the fun was washed away.

Maybe the game could've built on it a bit more but even without it's a great little time-drain and well worth a look and maybe a few several hours.

The only real downside to Monkey Quest: Thunderbow is that when it's finished there's very little incentive to go back and play through it again.

Unlike most physics-based puzzles, Backyard Bounce doesn't have the repetitiveness that leads to boring gameplay. This, plus its homage to Mr. Naismith makes for a great game.

While the controls can be a little fussy and the rating system seems totally nonsensical, I still can't seem to tear myself away. It's always "Just one more level," or "Just one more try." I can't explain it, but I suppose I don't really need to. It's simply a fun and very addicting iOS game.

Sticky Ball is a fine way for bored players to kill a day. Despite its issues, it has got enough worthwhile puzzles for a single play through. However, unless it has some downloadable content on the way, most probably won't be compelled to visit it again.

Sure there are plenty of other titles in the genre out there, but how many of them involve re-killing zombies anime-style as a schoolgirl? Not many.

I definitely appreciate Night Shift's style and effectiveness at being freaky, but it's still an awfully simple game. It might sound silly considering the platform but it's pretty simple even by iOS standards. That said, I think there's still entertainment to be had here. Especially from players who like their games scary, retro or both.

The gameplay in Curio is not very unique at all, in and of itself. However, Curio's haunting atmosphere and it's superb extras make it more of an experience than just a simple game. Ultimately, this is a title well worth considering.

Gameplay-wise touch controls continue to fit this genre like a glove.

Cave Crawlers is one of the most enjoyable dungeon crawling RPGs on the App Store. It might not be to everyone's liking with its odd combat system, but the amount of customization in both weaponry and armor alone should give loot collectors hours of entertainment.

An entertaining little puzzle game. It involves enough strategy and challenge to keep players thinking and entertained for a decent price. I enjoyed the graphics, the style of the game and the game elements that it employs. I would recommend giving it a whirl and playing all 6 free levels before purchasing the full version.

Don't miss this spiky gem. If putting that shiny new iPad or iPhone to great gaming use is the journey, Crazy Hedgy is the destination.

Negatives aside, Puzzling Penguins 2 is a charming little puzzle game, and will keep gamers' attention for a good while.

There's a ton of potential in SpySpy. The more forgiving early stages are proof of this. However, until the controls get a tweaking (at least let us get off of ladders without having to climb all the way to the bottom) I can't really call it a "must play." Maybe more like "must watch."

Despite the guiding god style of gameplay being long ignored, Save The Furries makes a good step towards showing that the genre is still alive and well. As long and consumers can get past the game's hefty $3.99 pricetag, there is quite a bit to love in this planetary puzzler.

It's amazing that Soccer Showdown, a game from a small developer like Naquatic, could come and make Game Center integration a key part of its product, and make it actually possible to easily find games to play.
