Taylor Swift becomes a more mature, sweet, loving and pop artist. "Lover" is the proof that she can make a clean-fun Pop. Despite having an extensive tracklist, the album remains cohesive and true to Swift's style. Unique songs like "Cruel Summer", "The Archer", "False God" are the mark that she can also do something different. I fell in love, laughed, danced and smiled.

Lover is a huge improvement from reputation (though not nearly as good as her older albums, like Fearless and Speak Now) but unfortunately it suffers from a lot of the songs sounding very similar. There were no absolute stinkers on the album, though some of the songs did not reach musical climaxes, something that could have made these songs better, such as The Archer and I Forgot That You Existed. Many of these songs have amazing lyrics, like You Need to Calm Down, but in these songs, the actual music wasn’t my favorite. That being said, while I am usually not a fan of electronic music, Swift uses synths and drum machines very uniquely and creatively, redeeming this music for me. Some of the tracks felt a little too reliant on this technology, though I greatly enjoyed a lot of the songs on the album. At first I felt a little overwhelmed by the electronic drums in The Man, but as I listened to it more and more, I became more fine with it (I listened to songs like Old Town Road in comparison and I still hate those drums, but I’m fine with the ones in The Man). Highlights: Lover, The Man, I Think He Knows, Paper Rings, Cornelia Street, Death by a Thousand Cuts, Soon You’ll Get Better, Afterglow, and ME!.

Taylor provided me with perfect love. The album has her compositions completely solo, and that already becomes differential and superior, the calm in her vocals and sonority is simply the best thing she has done in years as an artist. The perfect pop album comments.

It’s a minimalistIt’s been one year already since Taylor released her seventh studio album "Lover". It was the complete opposite of her previous album "reputation" visually, lyrically and sonically. While "reputation" was a very dark and heavy album, "Lover" was a very bright and uplifting album. The album opens with "I Forgot That You Existed" which is a perfect way to start the album. It’s a minimalist song in which Taylor declares her indifference to her detractors and it’s a farewell to the traumatic events that inspired "reputation". While it’s mainly a pop album, Taylor experimented with a lot of genres on this album.
With "Lover", "Soon You'll Get Better" and "Paper Rings" Taylor returned to her country roots. "Soon You'll Get Better" is a very personal, intimate, emotional, stripped down ballad about her parents' battle with cancer. It feels like a diary entry and it can easily make you cry. It features the Chicks but they feel more like backup singers in this song. "Paper Rings" on the other hand is a fun, upbeat country-influenced pop rock song that makes me dance every time I hear it. The album's third single and title track "Lover" is a romantic ballad that is inspired by country and folk music. The album's bubblegum pop lead single "ME!" always gets made fun of. Is it Taylor's best song? No. Was it a good choice to release it as the first single? Nope. However I still like the song. It’s far from being her best song and the "spelling is fun" line is cringe and immature but the song doesn’t take itself too seriously and always puts me in a good mood so yeah it’s my guilty pleasure. "You Need To Calm Down", the album's second single, still slaps. Hard! It’s an electropop anthem for the LGBT community and addresses homophobes, Internet trolls and bullies. The biggest experiment on the album would probably be "False God". It’s a sexy mid-tempo song that has more of an R&B sound and incorporates elements of jazz and trap music. "The Archer" is a vulnerable dream pop song and a lyrical masterpiece. It channels Taylor's insecurities, anxiety and existential crisis. "I Think He Knows" is one of my favorite songs on the album. It’s funk influenced and you just have to get up and dance to it. Such a fun, uplifting song. "Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince" is an extremely clever song. It sounds like a dramatic song about a high school experience but it’s actually a protest song about the current state of US politics. Genius. The album's second song "Cruel Summer" is pop perfection. It’s very breezy and has a very nice vibe to it. "Afterglow" is an incredible song that doesn’t get enough attention in my opinion. It’s a mid-tempo pop track in which Taylor is apologizing to a romantic partner for the impending failure of a relationship. "Daylight" is such a beautiful and simply flawless way to end this album. It’s an introspective ballad that documents her past and where she heads in the future. It ends with a beautiful monologue. Again: perfect way to conclude the album.

My favorite song on the album is easily the fourth and last single "The Man". It talks about sexist double standards and patriarchy, which Taylor herself was a victim of several times. The song itself is an empowering, bad **** pop anthem. It's a masterpiece and deserved so much more. The only song on the album that I don’t like is "It's Nice To Have A Friend". It sounds like she’s reading the lyrics without any motivation or emotion, there’s no melody which makes it sound insanely monotonous as there’s literally nothing happening in the production either and it’s just...there basically. "Lover" was a great album. It might not be as groundbreaking as "Red", "1989", "reputation" or the new album "Folklore", but was still a pretty damn good pop album. Taylor mainly wanted to have fun and sing about love on this album after the serious "reputation" but it also has some deep moments about feminism, mental health, politics, LGBT rights and cancer. I also love how much Taylor experimented on this album. Whenever I'm in a bad mood I play this album and I feel better. Favorites: The Man, I Think He Knows, You Need To Calm Aspen, Cruel Summer & Daylight

Lover is the most intimate and personal album of Taylor. The album is full of bops. I don't seem to have enough despite the 18 tracks. You looking for sad bopd? Listen to Death by a thousand cuts, Soon You'll Get Better. You want inspiration? You got yourself The Man. Stay away haters, I Forgot you Existed. Just go listen to Lover. You won't regret.

Many people will think this is an overated album. Actually, this deserves more than that. I didn't love reputation when it was out. But, we can see Lover which is totally different from reputation. We can see the old Taylor in this album. So, Taylor is still being herself.

It is easily her best work to date. It is the embodiment of all forms of love. From family to friends to relationships.

This album is so good, it's definitely her best album EVER! Every song on the album is better than all the singles she released prior. It doesn't have any fillers or skips, lover is the album of the year.

After the 2017 album reputation, I was questioning Taylor’s Swift’s songwriting and if she lost her touch. This album proves she can still tell her stories and give pop hits.

Like all Taylor’s albums I’ve listened to in full, Lover is a very mixed bag. However, I think the positives outweigh the negatives. While she isn’t the best vocalist, she manages to keep her singing interesting with emotive inflections of her voice, especially on I Forgot That You Existed. I Think He Knows delivers CRJ-esque pop surprisingly just about as good as Carly delivers. The title track is undeniably beautiful. Soon You’ll Get Better is beautifully written to her mom battling cancer. Paper Rings is another great track this album absolutely couldn’t do without. However, there’s plenty of tracks I found myself forgetting even after multiple listens: Afterglow, Daylight, and It’s Nice To Have A Friend. Furthermore, the first two singles deliver lyrical content that’ll make you regret checking out the song. From “hey kids, spelling is fun” to “there’s a lot of lame guys out there” to “you can’t spell awesome without me” ... ya uhm yikes. Then there’s YNTCD serving us “could you just not” to “shade never made anybody less gay” to “7 A.eaaM.” I feel bad ranking YNTCD too poorly though bc I like the instrumental n melody and ehh there was an attempt at showing her strong support to the LGBT community, which is sweet, I love the thought of that. I also appreciate the petition and music video associated with it, so I can’t hate it *that* much, I guess. I’d be lying if I said I always skipped it, only sometimes.
Anyway, bottom line is that it’s a mixed bag just like 1989 and reputation.

I think Taylor will always overcome herself. She flawlessly can write an entire album talking about love without making it look cliche or quaint.

It’s an album that screams out for an editor, but when it hits the right notes, it demonstrates just why Taylor Swift is one of the biggest pop stars in the world.

Ultimately, Lover is overstuffed and meandering, but serves as a positive reprieve from her past struggles in the public eye, and represents an artist at the peak of her creativity, power, and—one hopes—continued romantic bliss.

Lover is a fabulous record, full of super-fun standout pop hits that make your heart burst. It oozes with Swift’s much more palatable upbeat sass. She’s in love and also thinking about different kinds of love.
