Taika Waititi’s background as a painter can be seen throughout the film, through the use of a vibrant color scheme and specific tint isolation. This is incredibly aesthetically pleasing and, quite frankly, nothing that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has shown us before. Matched with a rocking soundtrack -- Appetite for Destruction from Guns N’ Roses, Thor: Love and Thunder is quite literally an “appetite for destruction.”

Thor: Love and Thunder picks up after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is still tagging along as one of the Guardians of the Galaxy. After all his paths have been severed from his battles with Thanos, he finds himself without a pathway. In all of his thousands of years of living, this has never been a concept that Thor has had to tackle. This puts him on a journey of self-exploration. Although, obviously in the Marvel Universe, that can only last so long when the new villain Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) comes to town. Gorr vows that “all gods will die.” Thor recruits the help of his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) who seemingly became a Thor herself. These two learn to work together to defeat Gorr and how to navigate the world while rekindling their old relationship.

Thor: Love and Thunder emphasizes the idea of “love” in the title because that’s how audiences will feel about the film’s color variations and banging soundtrack. Christian Bale completely steals the entire show as Gorr the God Butcher. In every scene he is in, your eyes are glued to his worldly-like presence on the screen. Although he is terrifying, the audience will not be able to get enough of him. Christian Bale finds a way to make this a Christian Bale film and not a Chris Hemsworth film. As much as Gorr the God Butcher’s storyline is golden, which is ironic given his black and white color scheme, other branches of the film feel unnecessary. During the film, certain plot points are used that feel somewhat like a cheap excuse to move the story forward. The characters spend a solid 30 minutes exploring something new, yet later we learn that it has no overall impact or relevance to the story. Part of the film is wasted on the focus of Zeus. It may be comedic and light-hearted in the moment, yet it almost feels like it is only introduced to help set up future Marvel projects, rather than focus on the film we are currently watching.

If the title doesn’t make it obvious, the film deals with the theme of love persevering and expresses the concept that relationships aren’t forever, but the love behind them is eternal. Following previous Marvel content Thor: Love and Thunder continues the trend of pushing PG-13 boundaries and getting darker. When I say that Christian Bale is incredibly terrifying, that is really true. Marvel does not hold back on his character, especially when a large part of his role is about abducting children. Given that, plus the barrel of intense action throughout the film, this film is not to be taken lightly. I give Thor: Love and Thunder 4 out of 5 stars and recommend it for ages 12 to 18, plus adults. You can find Thor: Love and Thunder raining its way into theatres on July 8, 2022. So make sure to check it out! By Jude A., KIDS FIRST!

If some of you are starting to feel a little jaded with the endless stream of Marvel movies, you are not alone.

After the events that took place in Avengers: Endgame, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) now embarks on a journey to find inner peace. This lasts all of about five minutes before Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) shows up, with the sole purpose of destroying all the gods. In order to fight the threat to their existence, Thor seeks help from Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and Dr Jane Foster (Natalie Portman).

Thor: Love and Thunder is clearly dividing fans but for me, Thor 4 just didn't feel as good or as funny as it should have been. I very nearly gave up on the Thor franchise after The Dark World but the positive reviews for Thor: Ragnarok eventually persuaded me to give it another chance and well I wasn't the only one who was surprised at how funny and entertaining Ragnarok was. That right there is where the bar was set and to dip beneath it could not be allowed to happen. With Taika Waititi remaining as the director, the last thing I expected was for Love and Thunder to go hurtling towards Thor 2 levels of bad. This is tonally all over the place and normally I'd expect Waititi to get the blend between serious topics and humour right but in this case it's a mess. The jokes were constantly being thrown at you with only a handful of them getting any laughs at all. Not only that but they also repeated the same unfunny jokes over and over again, even if you did laugh the first time by the third and fourth it all gets a bit tedious. Overall the cinema was not laughing, and I understand every experience is not like this but when the majority of the jokes are met with cricket noises you have a problem.

So what else has Thor 4 got going for it? Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie is great but she's underused, Natalie Portman gave a better performance in this compared to Thor 1 & 2 combined. The CGI is messy, the script is messy and can someone please tell me what the hell accent Russell Crowe was trying to do? What accent was that supposed to be? Watch out Jared Leto, it seems Crowe is trying to outdo you for worst accent in a motion picture. Give him the award already, he deserves it for that horrendous portrayal of Zeus.

The only redeeming quality I can pull from this mess is Bale's terrifying performance as Gorr the God Butcher. A scene stealer every moment he's on screen and the only character with any real depth. He should have been used more because he is without a doubt the best thing about Thor: Love and Thunder. Hemsworth is just cashing it in at this point and after four solo Thor movies and eight total appearances as Thor I can't blame him for getting a little bored with the character. God knows I am. He definitely looks even bigger and better than ever before and as a casting choice for Thor he's perfect but looks aren't everything. As for Taika Waititi, dude you're better than this so if you've also lost interest in these movies then enough already, call it a day and move on to something else. The audience doesn't need to be subjected to cheap jokes and screaming goats.

Hemsworth said Thor: Love and Thunder is "the kind of film a seven-year-old would make" and that's certainly true. It's all over the place and did not manage to pull itself together and it's not like I had high expectations. To all the people saying Love and Thunder is better than Ragnarok, I'm glad you thought so but I respectfully disagree. If Marvel's Phase 4 is more of this then I'm going to start skipping new releases. It's better to have quality over quantity and more effort and imagination is needed. Superhero films don't need to be an endless stream of cash grabs. Yet like every other superhero fan I still went to see the 29th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and I stayed for the obligatory post credit scenes. I have also contributed to the 300+ million Thor: Love and Thunder has made on it's opening weekend, which also means I'm partly the reason we probably haven't seen the last of Thor. You can either skip this or make up your own mind, if you are going to see it, I suggest you lower your expectations. Recommended for the Thor fans or for anyone who wants to stare at Chris Hemsworth for two hours.

Hemsworth, Bale, and Thompson all kill it with their performances, although Natalie Portman's is a mixed bag overall, succeeding far more as Jane Foster than Mighty Thor. Additionally, the new worlds explored and the color palette used in the film are bright and fun to look at, while the soundtrack rocks like it did in Ragnarok. However, the major problems shine brighter than all of that. The script is just really poor and feels like it was written by a child in many respects, particularly in the joke department. The film has no idea how to balance its tone, feeling far too immature towards its more serious subject matters like genocide and cancer, and misses far more than it hits on its jokes (namely the screaming goats joke, which was arguably the MCU's worst in any movie and felt ripped from ten years ago). A more troubling trend for the MCU as a whole, though, that this movie showcases blatantly is just how much was cut out. There are multiple scenes where it was clear a cut was put in to end a scene before it was intended to keep the runtime down. While this cutting was more subtle in Multiverse of Madness, it was so blatant in Love and Thunder and Marvel needs to let its directors do what they want, rather than keep the runtime down to under 2 hours to get more screenings in. It also works to the movies detriment as Gorr deserved much more screen time than he was given and some character development for the rest of the crew felt so rushed. While not an absolute bore like The Dark World, Love and Thunder is far inferior to both the original film and especially Ragnarok, as well as most of the MCU's other offerings. Expand

This is a hard film to review. I’m not sure what it is about Thor L&T but I just didn’t find it that funny. I felt like they tried so hard to push jokes out and they often didn’t land with me. I think there were too many jokes right at the start, it became obvious that the dialogue only served for humour reasons and because that failed to land with me it took away any storytelling or narrative immersion. The film is still entertaining and it definitely gets better by the second act, even the comedy improves once ‘Jane’ is introduced into the story alongside Thor. There are great action scenes and the film definitely doesn’t feel too long. I think it’s the perfect length. The villain is the best part of the movie, Christian Bale portrays his character extremely well. I will say, it felt very clear that Natalie Portman had only been contracted for one marvel movie. Immediately we are met with her character in a terminal situation which implies she won’t be returning after the movie concludes. Maybe they could’ve made it a little more subtle.

Overall, this movie is alright. It’s funny at times and has enough action to remain entertaining and compelling, with some neat cinematography here and there, but not the greatest marvel movie I’ve ever seen.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fui assistir o filme e assim estava MUITO haypado.

He lended the film gravitas that's lacking pretty much everywhere else. Natalie Portman also does a great job as the Mighty Thor but the seriousness of her story gets sidelined for conventional material that makes her story lack any emotional punch outside of the superficial. Overall, it does what it needs to as far as entertainment is concerned, but the real disappointment is that it could've done so much more (outside of jokes) and been a much more elevated movie. The movie was fun but disappointing. It tries to be a comedy but fails miserably. Some jokes are funny but most of them are forced, reused and some just made me cringe.

The story writing is just badly executed. Gorr could easily have a whole phase dedicated to him. I dont know who thought mixing Gorr's storyline (one of marvel's darkest storylines) with a comedy would be a great idea. It does not fit at all. The movie made Gorr look like a complete joke. We dont even see him slaying a god in the entire movie... They barely scratch the surface of his potential. You immediately forget about him when you leave the theatre.

Just when I thought the movie would get serious, they shove more forced comedy down your throat. I thought Zeus would be epic. Oh boy was I disappointed. They also made him look like a total joke. The space orgy joke was just cringe. The character had no charisma and was boring. The version of Zeus in DCU had barely any screentime but still looked 100x more epic than the Zeus we got in this movie.

By the way, Chris and Natalie have 0 chemistry together. Not a great recipe for success in a ''love'' movie. Im still looking for the love parts in the movie. Most of Thor and Jane's interactions feel forced and empty because they lack any chemistry.

Overall, the movie was fun but disappointing and annoying. The worst of all 4.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is not terrible in the slightest but it’s not top tier MCU. Visually this movie was great, soundtrack was awesome & the action sequences were pretty nice. But now to complain. My first issue with this film was that there were too many jokes and comedic moments in scenes I felt should have been taken more seriously, for example, the Lady Sif scene. I love the new Thor atmosphere with these jokes and such but I like it to an extent when it’s mixed with serious acting behind it. Second issue was the love triangle with the hammer. It’s funny the first time but after awhile it’s old, just like that screaming Goats. Last issue I had despite his incredible acting, was Gorr’s reasoning for why he was doing all of this. I felt he should have been committed to killing Gods for being arrogant & egotistical rather than doing all that plus for his daughter. I also had a slight issue that a guy named the “GOD BUTCHER” didn’t kill any gods on screen or any main characters. It’s enjoyable for a fast paced comedy action MCU film but I’d only rewatch it for a MCU movie marathon. Expand

This film was significantly worse than Ragnarok, in every way possible. The story suffered a lot because it tried to shoe horn so many unrelated elements. Additionally, the pacing was jarring, which made the movie feel both too long and too short at the same time. The only explanation was Marvel probably cut out so much stuff, so it could get it under 2 hours so it can maximize the screening times. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I appreciated the story development of how love and life prevail over hate and revenge. At the end, I found the feelings Gorr had for his daughter touching (even though their relationship wasn't highly developed in the movie). A lot of movies fall flat when they try to do sentimental scenes, but for me, Thor: L&T worked. I came in with low expectations because I didn't like how the trailers looked, but I enjoyed this movie. Not as much as Ragnorok though. Expand

But I really enjoyed the journey that Taika Waititi provides in this film. I thought the villain was very good, but as always, Marvel doesn't take advantage of its antagonists, with the exception of Loki and Thanos.

One point is that disney urgently needs to improve the cgi of its movies. And don't leave it all to the new Avatar

Best "super-absurd hero" movie, ever!

Before the Marvel title section, this movie is already delivering absurdist jokes ambiance which is much similar to the prequel, Thor: Ragnarok (2017). If you have seen that movie, yeah, overall, that's a glimpse of this movie. My POV, I'm lovin' it haha... However, this movie's absurdism is really unexpected, and somehow Taika Waititi as Director proves his skill to keep it relevant or up-to-date with our current situation. Always delivers fresh jokes, unorthodox, authentic, and related to audiences.

This movie plot is really about "love" and "thunder". Self-crisis, emptiness, and anger about love and thunder. Why thunder? That's the secret lol. The pros are audiences are directed to focus on those movie plots and absurd jokes. Very entertaining and funny coz absurdism always acts as if anything is meaningless. Magnificent story, jokes, moral value, narration, and visuals, especially the music - the most unexpected and vivid marketing. SORRY, NO SPOILER. Besides that, it seems Thor gonna be the next romantic superhero besides of Spider-Man. Romantic, mightiest, funny, and emotional are perfect descriptions of Thor's persona in the future.

The cons are too many jokes create not such a romantic love ambiance, not really about the mightiest superhero or classical "power thing", and it's really promoting the music - too many but I'm lovin' it! Lol. Lastly, Thor: Love and Thunder (2022) isn't affiliated and gave important things about Marvel Cinematic Extended Universe (MCEU). This is only focusing on Thor.

BUT, it's really worth watching at the cinema! "Comedy" is something that we really need to relieve these particular chaotic moments and "superhero" is something that we need to feel energized, hopeful and not feelin' FOMO!? RN, I'm really into Taika Waititi movies coz this movie's absurdism is really beyond my imagination. Thor? Always be my most fav's Avengers.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This was the new Thor movie for the lackluster Phase 4 of the MCU, and going into this one I was incredibly hyped for it. There was so much in the trailers that hooked me in, like Christian Bale as Gorr The God Butcher, Zeus and more Gods are in the movie, and then I watched the movie, and I thought it was just good. This is definitely a shorter Marvel movie, it's only at 2 Hours long. The plot kind of **** over the trailers, as the Guardians of the Galaxy were featured heavily in the trailer and are only there for like fifteen minutes or ten minutes. The main point of this film is Thor, Jane Foster, Valkyrie, and Korg going on an adventure to the Shadow World to save Asgardian kids from Gorr. Bale as Gorr is...AMAZING. Definitely the highlight of this film for sure, as I love his entire storyline. The fight scenes are pretty rare (there's only like four of them), but I like all of them. The romance between Thor and Jane is really good, and it can be funny at times as well. Gorr ends up nearly killing Valkyrie and taking Stormbreaker, which he needs to reach Eternity to wish to kill all Gods. He makes it to Eternity for one huge fight scene where the Asgardian kids (one is Heimdall's kid) get Thor's powers and kick ass. And then the best part of the movie is Gorr turning good and dying, wishing for his dead daughter to come back, and Jane dies, the kid now being Thor's daughter. A bit of a depressing, but sweet ending. In other words I enjoyed the story, and the soundtrack backs up so many scenes, mostly Hair Metal music and I love it, with the actual soundtrack kicking ass. Overall a pretty good Marvel movie that will generate some mixed reviews, but I think it's a good sign for Phase 4 movies. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie proves that Disney has no idea what it's doing with their franchises, and are far more focused on appealing to as many audiences as possible at the cost of the integrity and interest in their own stories.

For one, they're treating Thor's character with an incredible amount of disrespect. Arguably, he is the most tragic hero in the entire MCU because he's lost everything and failed so many times at the cost of countless innocent lives. Yet Marvel is trying to make him out to be the but of every joke.

Meanwhile, a character like Wanda who's lost her brother and lover takes an entire town hostage to live out her fantasies, kills numerous sorcerers and many of our favourite characters in "Multiverse of Madness", and we're supposed to treat her like a tragic villain?

It's a shame that Disney does not respect their own original male characters anymore and are more in favour of leaving them to the curb while forcing their new female characters to be more likeable and potentially carry the future of the MCU (which, by the way, they won't...)

And that brings me to my next big problem; the fact that Mjolnir could be reforged and was done so by Jane Foster.

So let me get this straight, Marvel; not only could Mjolnir have been reforged, making the entire Stormbreaker arc in Infinity War absolutely pointless, it was reforged by Jane Foster of all people?

Every person who has ever worthy of wielding Mjolnir have all had the following things in common;
1.) They were super-human beings
2.) They dedicated their existence and powers to protecting and serving life

Thor had this. Vision had this. Captain America had this...

But Jane Foster certainly does not.

This only highlights the main problem that Disney has with its female characters. Its not the fact that they exist that's the problem. Its the fact that they become overpowered and flawless in every way for no sacrifice or cost (unlike every other MCU hero), and they give them the most screen time as if they've deserved it. That doesn't make for a good character; that's just incredibly lazy writing that will only serve to make similar female characters less desirable in the future (which is obviously the opposite of what Disney wants).

Then there's the problem with the Wish's existence. If that thing exists, it makes all other plot developments in past MCU films irrelevant!

Dark World war and Hela dying? Undone!

Ragnarok and Hela destroying Asgard? Undone!

Thanos searching for all the Infinity Stones? No need if he can force the Asgardians to take him to the Wish and use THAT to wipe out half the universe instead!

And, of course, there's the writing of this film as well, which is by all means a disaster which tries way too hard to recapture the success of it's previous film, "Ragnarok".

The entire film is just joke after joke; turning every moment whether suitable or not for a joke into a lead-up to some badly written one-liner. It doesn't allow any of the film's aspects to be taken seriously or with respect; especially Gor the god-killer who is one of the most bad-ass villains in all of Marvel's history who's treated like another disposable and shallow one-shot villain who's seriously under-powered. Disney is doing an absolutely horrible job with developing their stories and creating wonderful characters for us to follow and aspire to be like for future iterations of the MCU. They treat their more interesting and developed male characters as the comic relief, the under (and poorly) developed female characters like they can carry the entire film just by being there, and completely nullify previous plot and movie developments just to force their own stories to work after the first draft is done.

Definitely not worth watching.

A four hour movie that was tossed into a blender and only two hours were poured out, without bothering to make them coherently connect. If you can think, then almost everything in the movie makes no sense, especially the big threat which invalidates Infinity War/Endgame. Typical MCU, where canon and continuity are not part of the FRANCHISE so nothing can make sense, and there are no stakes. Jane's entire power explanation is laughably bad, and contradicts what Odin said in Ragnarock. I guess Taika could not even remember his previous Thor movie... I’ve read a lot of reviews and it looks like many either love or hate it. There are high stakes here, excellent acting and a villain very complex and compelling for the MCU, so I think it might just come down to what you’re in the mood for whether or not you’ll find any enjoyment watching it. After the last two Marvel movie entries, Spider Man and Doctor Strange, I think some movie goers where looking for something to continue the more serious tone the MCU has had lately - especially here with the heavy material that is being tackled in Love and Thunder. I enjoy the kind of humor Tika brings and I really love how well the MCU Thor character has been developed. I found the more irreverent tone and the jokes to be really refreshing. The deep loss that is at the center of all that is driving the plot forward would have been too much for me personally without the comedy. I really loved this movie and was moved many times from laughter to tears. I also really liked how the film it self seems to be referencing how the Thor movies are becoming more “worthy.” I think Marvel fans, especially people who read the comics, will really like this. Just a heads up - the baddy might be a little much for some of the younger kids, but there is a very silly yet highly empowering moment near the end of the movie for those still a bit scared of the dark. If they can stick it out some might draw inspiration from how kids make their way out of their situation. Expand

I definitely am not going to take my son for this one - was going to because were both fans of Ragnarok and Taika is the director there too. I'm not a conservative nut job and am generally open minded but I fail to see why sexual references (hetero or otherwise) need to be in a movie like this. It's just jarring. It could have been a much better movie had they just dialed down all the weirdness. Expand

It's a fine movie. There are some issues like pacing, tone issues (some of the joke scenes go for too long), and a low use of Christian Bale. But it is over all fine.

The MCU is back before us with more content that we’ve been clamoring for. This movie follows Thor as he enlists the help of King Valkyrie, Bestie Korg and ex-girlfriend, Jane Foster, to fight Gorr the God Butcher, who intends to make all of the gods extinct.

You know with these MCU movies we have to talk about the storyline and the bigger picture. First, a newbie could definitely just watch this movie and not be completely lost about what’s going on. As Korg narrates at key points in the movie, he’s able to bring us all up to speed. Secondly, I’m no comic book expert but to me this movie doesn’t move the universe along that much if at all, which is good. I feel everyone is too wrapped up in how it plays into the phases and multiverse and blah blah blah, which just causes people to not be immersed in and entertained by the product in front of them (*cough cough* alluding to what people did to the Dr. Strange movie but no one asked me, so I’ll move on). Lastly, this movie is full of heart. Thor, Jane, and Gorr will pull on your heartstrings throughout in unexpected ways. While some of their plot points weren’t fully fleshed out, I recognize that it’s hard to make these movies feel important after the emotional depth in Endgame. Nevertheless, Taika’s direction and the writing definitely tried their best to fill the movie with heart and humor. Let’s move on to the cast.

Christian Bale does his thing as Gorr. He’s so creepy in this. Bale has a way of slithering across the screen and being menacing even though he’s not necessarily physically imposing. Marvel could’ve taken this to the next level in dastardliness, but it seems like the MCU is building to an overarching Big Bad and don’t yet want to give us that Thanos-like figure. Who knows? We may have seen that Big Bad already, but the MCU hasn’t truly featured them yet. Anyway! Thor, on the other hand, while goofy and fun, campy, and still beastly, he does come off a bit too corny. And, it’s hard to say because some of the exact same moments are definitely going to be moments that people enjoy. The same goes for Korg as well. Taika does a great job voicing Korg, but at times it’s a bit much or unnecessary. The fact that he narrates a lot of the movie could be a turn off to viewers. Korg is great in small pebbles but the whole rock mound gets a bit annoying. Our friend, Jane Foster can be annoying too but her bash head Thor-ness is definitely fun to watch. Marvel definitely found a way to make Jane come into her own and not just as a Thor carbon copy, which I enjoyed. I wish I could say the same for Valkyrie. They didn’t really let my girl Tessa really shine in this movie. After Ragnarok, I think we wanted that boss chick featured again. Unfortunately, she was more of a bell and whistle than a co-star. Those are the people you come to see but there are a bunch of small characters that either melt your heart, annoy you a bit, make you laugh, or want to see more of. Srangely that mixture, actually gives a movie life. It’s just Marvel doing Marvel things making you want more.

Long story short, Thor: Love and Thunder while maybe not Ragnarok doesn’t fall too far from the tree. Marvel, Taika and Kevin Feige just continue a strong MCU/Thor Franchise. This movie will make you laugh, hold on to your seat, awe at the action, suck back thug tears and more. Thor gets a bit corny but not enough to make me say don’t see Bale’s creepy Gorr the God Butcher. Love and Thunder will make loud noise in the theaters so grab that big box of fresh popcorn and enjoy.

Two hours of the worst jokes and premises the director could cram in. If you want jokes that constantly undermine every scene to the point were you stop caring about the movie then this sorry excuse for an entry in the MCU is for you.

If seen as a comedy, this movie feels like a joke that its missing its "second act", it goes from the set-up straight to the punchline.
But since the movie is trying to sell a dramatic story, you have to judge it for that, and it becomes plain terrible.
Christian Bale is, by far, the best thing in the movie, but he is barely in it, in a movie that is clearly missing A LOT of footage, which also makes it incomprehensible at times.

Hard to believe this was made by the same people that made Ragnarok.

Not great, not terrible, just fine. Love and Thunder has interesting visuals and cool action sequences, but is also poorly paced and has some noticeably out of place comedy and cheesiness. Adding another twenty to thirty minutes to the films runtime could've helped add more context to the story and ease the previously mentioned pacing problem, but instead we have a movie that is too short to tell a fully realized Marvel storyline. Fans of the MCU will get some good entertainment value out of Thor: Love and Thunder, but they shouldn't expect anything really special. Expand

In total honesty, gone are the days where I'd become excited and overjoyed for the newest MCU film. In my eyes, the MCU's golden age ended with 'Avengers: Endgame' and it just hasn't been the same since. For the most part, we've been plagued with films that simply feel like obvious afterthoughts or expertly-written epilogue fanfiction at best, and this one is no exception. Riddled with an absurd amount of corny moments including but not limited to flying/screeching Taylor Swift goats, Thor riding his Stormbreaker axe like a witch on a broomstick, Thor caught in a jealousy love triangle with his old hammer MjoInir and his Stormbreaker axe and talking to them quite often throughout the film, random accents galore (Valkyrie now suddenly has a British accent and Russell Crowe's Zeus's accent is beyond silly, all over the place, and impossible to pinpoint), etc. The list goes on and on. Not even the performances can really save this one, as Hemsworth remains charming yet goofy to a fault in this one, and Bale's Gorr simply loooked and felt like a Voldemort ripoff. For me, the film's biggest standout star was Portman's Mighty Thor. Watching her carry the hammer and kicking ass was incredibly fun and satisfying to watch. The Guardians of the Galaxy also make a brief appearance at the beginning of the film that felt fun but mostly rushed and wasted unfortunately. Like I said before, the story and writing simply feels like fanfiction material at this point in the MCU and the stakes and emotions never feel as high anymore. So overall, while it's big, bright, and does have its fair share of enjoyable action sequences and a solid action performance from Portman in particular, this 'Thor' still feels like too much of a burnout like the rest of Phase 4 of the MCU has felt so far for the most part and is simply just a jumbled and corny mess. At the same time I feel its certainly not the worst of the Thor movies sorry Dark World. Was interesting that Marvel didn't take the easy way out I was expecting them to with Jane near the end. Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman were great in this. Where the movie falls down is it gets very cartoonish with its humor there were some parts that made laugh admittedly but unfortunately a lot more parts that made me cringe and took me out of the story. Christian Bale did what he could with Gore but his arc felt a bit rushed and not fleshed out. Zeus felt like more of a punchline rather than a powerful god it was like the parts that should have been serious in the movie couldn't be as the movie was sort of stuck in cartoon mode. Overall there is certainly enough to enjoy in this movie but it struggles to balance humor with serious parts was great to see the guardians though. Expand

Despite the fact that the film was supposed to be a comedy because of how the character has been treated lately turning him into a clown, it has drama, action and epicness... And a lot of love. The villain is well-constructed, his origin-to-end story arc is very good, though I'm sure comic book lovers will say he sucks. The scene with the empowered children was a perfect touch. Using Zeus for the issue of inclusion and progressivism was funny, not forced at all; and the thing about Korg makes sense because he's just rocks. The Jane Fonda arc... I mean, Jodie Foster... I mean, Jane Foster and what she did at the end was fine, and the scene with Thor was very emotional and deep. Taika Waititi definitely convinced me this time, he gave us a good installment.

The mid-credit scene was very interesting, let's see what happens with Thor's future, and the post-credit scene was satisfactory.
