The movie is criminally unserious it’s a **** joke. Gorr knocks it out the park from the jump but as soon as the Marvel Studios logo rolls it’s all downhill from there, tonally. Thor and co. are written like an actual Muppets skit, complete with fighting literal Muppets within the first 10 minutes. Star-Lord gives this unusually out of character and frankly garbage pep talk to Thor that doesn’t really pay off at all when Thor recants it to Jane later in the movie.

For the great execution Christian Bale gives Gorr, he does ZERO God-Butchering in this film outside of the 5 minute prologue. They literally find out about this guy from a space Fox 5 broadcast labeling him Gorr The God Butcher while cutting through slides of dead god bodies.

Janes’ handling is great overall I think, but Marvel clearly cannot keep things interesting inflicting trauma on woman characters. Post-credit stuff was great though so I’m cautiously optimistic.

Overall this movie felt entirely disrespectful to Thor fans, like a parody Monty Python-ification of the typical slate of MCU one-liners and gags. Decent action sets and rare moments held intensely together by Christian Bale alone don’t save what is otherwise the weakest entry of Phase 4 without a doubt and possibly my least favorite MCU movie of all time.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Spoilers: If you haven't seen a marvel movie about a character who is corrupted by an ambiguously ancient evil that uses them for their own goals of destroying the universe in the last month, this movie might be worth a watch. Bringing back Natalie Portman just to have her be a former/current love interest and die so Thor learns a lesson feels like a misplay. Gorr as a character is utterly wasted and putting his quest tied to a universal threat takes away from what could have been an interesting revenge story that was teased by Thor and Eteri's interaction in Infinity War. Some of the 80s metal homages are cool but it's not enough to save the movie. Expand

Lowest quality marvel movie right there. They butchered my favourite hero.

Too many unfunny jokes. Humour in Ragnarok stretched to its breaking point and snapped. Even cgi is half baked. Nothing redeeming about this movie. Marvel is dead for me.

This film was significantly worse than Ragnarok, in every way possible. The story suffered a lot because it tried to shoe horn so many unrelated elements. Additionally, the pacing was jarring, which made the movie feel both too long and too short at the same time. The only explanation was Marvel probably cut out so much stuff, so it could get it under 2 hours so it can maximize the screening times. Expand

The movie was fun but disappointing. It tries to be a comedy but fails miserably. Some jokes are funny but most of them are forced, reused and some just made me cringe.

The story writing is just badly executed. Gorr could easily have a whole phase dedicated to him. I dont know who thought mixing Gorr's storyline (one of marvel's darkest storylines) with a comedy would be a great idea. It does not fit at all. The movie made Gorr look like a complete joke. We dont even see him slaying a god in the entire movie... They barely scratch the surface of his potential. You immediately forget about him when you leave the theatre.

Just when I thought the movie would get serious, they shove more forced comedy down your throat. I thought Zeus would be epic. Oh boy was I disappointed. They also made him look like a total joke. The space orgy joke was just cringe. The character had no charisma and was boring. The version of Zeus in DCU had barely any screentime but still looked 100x more epic than the Zeus we got in this movie.

By the way, Chris and Natalie have 0 chemistry together. Not a great recipe for success in a ''love'' movie. Im still looking for the love parts in the movie. Most of Thor and Jane's interactions feel forced and empty because they lack any chemistry.

Overall, the movie was fun but disappointing and annoying. The worst of all 4.

Hemsworth, Bale, and Thompson all kill it with their performances, although Natalie Portman's is a mixed bag overall, succeeding far more as Jane Foster than Mighty Thor. Additionally, the new worlds explored and the color palette used in the film are bright and fun to look at, while the soundtrack rocks like it did in Ragnarok. However, the major problems shine brighter than all of that. The script is just really poor and feels like it was written by a child in many respects, particularly in the joke department. The film has no idea how to balance its tone, feeling far too immature towards its more serious subject matters like genocide and cancer, and misses far more than it hits on its jokes (namely the screaming goats joke, which was arguably the MCU's worst in any movie and felt ripped from ten years ago). A more troubling trend for the MCU as a whole, though, that this movie showcases blatantly is just how much was cut out. There are multiple scenes where it was clear a cut was put in to end a scene before it was intended to keep the runtime down. While this cutting was more subtle in Multiverse of Madness, it was so blatant in Love and Thunder and Marvel needs to let its directors do what they want, rather than keep the runtime down to under 2 hours to get more screenings in. It also works to the movies detriment as Gorr deserved much more screen time than he was given and some character development for the rest of the crew felt so rushed. While not an absolute bore like The Dark World, Love and Thunder is far inferior to both the original film and especially Ragnarok, as well as most of the MCU's other offerings. Expand

Watching this made me realize how much of Ragnarok was an accidental success. Taika has made a mess here throwing a mass of sketch comedy ideas at the audience in the early first half. With marvel no longer riding the coattails of a successful run of films, the weak effort in the writing of this film this really stand out. Also throw in a tonal mess flipping from ridiculous to serious and add in some woke-ness for good measure (is it really necessary to sexualise so many characters in an action adventure film?). This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Thor has gotten to silly and goofy. He comes off as just an idiot half the time. Surprise he has now lost someone else he cares for…Jane. The one person and love interest that was still out there and he could possibly end up with. Now Thor has the power to give someone else the power of Thor like he does with the kids at the end??? Tony is probably cussing in his grave bc they could’ve all used that in endgame. This was very disappointing though overall especially since losing Ironman and Cap Thor could be the one to push the avengers forward and help fill that hole. I doubt anyone reads my reviews but I enjoy writing out my feelings. I’ve been away from metacritic awhile. If you do read it thank you it’s just my opinion. The Thor movies have certainly had their ups and downs, and at this point I'm starting to believe Thor: Ragnarok was a fluke. If some of you are starting to feel a little jaded with the endless stream of Marvel movies, you are not alone. The Thor movies have certainly had their ups and downs, and at this point I'm starting to believe Thor: Ragnarok was a fluke. If some of you are starting to feel a little jaded with the endless stream of Marvel movies, you are not alone.

After the events that took place in Avengers: Endgame, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) now embarks on a journey to find inner peace. This lasts all of about five minutes before Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) shows up, with the sole purpose of destroying all the gods. In order to fight the threat to their existence, Thor seeks help from Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and Dr Jane Foster (Natalie Portman).

Thor: Love and Thunder is clearly dividing fans but for me, Thor 4 just didn't feel as good or as funny as it should have been. I very nearly gave up on the Thor franchise after The Dark World but the positive reviews for Thor: Ragnarok eventually persuaded me to give it another chance and well I wasn't the only one who was surprised at how funny and entertaining Ragnarok was. That right there is where the bar was set and to dip beneath it could not be allowed to happen. With Taika Waititi remaining as the director, the last thing I expected was for Love and Thunder to go hurtling towards Thor 2 levels of bad. This is tonally all over the place and normally I'd expect Waititi to get the blend between serious topics and humour right but in this case it's a mess. The jokes were constantly being thrown at you with only a handful of them getting any laughs at all. Not only that but they also repeated the same unfunny jokes over and over again, even if you did laugh the first time by the third and fourth it all gets a bit tedious. Overall the cinema was not laughing, and I understand every experience is not like this but when the majority of the jokes are met with cricket noises you have a problem.

So what else has Thor 4 got going for it? Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie is great but she's underused, Natalie Portman gave a better performance in this compared to Thor 1 & 2 combined. The CGI is messy, the script is messy and can someone please tell me what the hell accent Russell Crowe was trying to do? What accent was that supposed to be? Watch out Jared Leto, it seems Crowe is trying to outdo you for worst accent in a motion picture. Give him the award already, he deserves it for that horrendous portrayal of Zeus.

The only redeeming quality I can pull from this mess is Bale's terrifying performance as Gorr the God Butcher. A scene stealer every moment he's on screen and the only character with any real depth. He should have been used more because he is without a doubt the best thing about Thor: Love and Thunder. Hemsworth is just cashing it in at this point and after four solo Thor movies and eight total appearances as Thor I can't blame him for getting a little bored with the character. God knows I am. He definitely looks even bigger and better than ever before and as a casting choice for Thor he's perfect but looks aren't everything. As for Taika Waititi, dude you're better than this so if you've also lost interest in these movies then enough already, call it a day and move on to something else. The audience doesn't need to be subjected to cheap jokes and screaming goats.

Hemsworth said Thor: Love and Thunder is "the kind of film a seven-year-old would make" and that's certainly true. It's all over the place and did not manage to pull itself together and it's not like I had high expectations. To all the people saying Love and Thunder is better than Ragnarok, I'm glad you thought so but I respectfully disagree. If Marvel's Phase 4 is more of this then I'm going to start skipping new releases. It's better to have quality over quantity and more effort and imagination is needed. Superhero films don't need to be an endless stream of cash grabs. Yet like every other superhero fan I still went to see the 29th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and I stayed for the obligatory post credit scenes. I have also contributed to the 300+ million Thor: Love and Thunder has made on it's opening weekend, which also means I'm partly the reason we probably haven't seen the last of Thor. You can either skip this or make up your own mind, if you are going to see it, I suggest you lower your expectations. Recommended for the Thor fans or for anyone who wants to stare at Chris Hemsworth for two hours.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. ***Mild Spoilers***
My wife and I are big MCU fans. We've seen every one of the films, in theaters, together and have had varying opinions on a few of them. For the most part, however, we've enjoyed everything Marvel Studios has produced. That is until Love and Thunder stormed into cinemas. It is the first MCU film that we watched and felt had close to no redeeming qualities, generating an acute urge to leave the theater. We didn't, however, and here are my thoughts. Any notion of a compelling plot point was horrendously undercut by the film's inconsistent tone. The machine gun approach to humor shot so many holes into the narrative that it caused any semblance of weight or severity to come draining out in rivulets.

Gorr, for example, had the makings of such an intriguing villain but he had a stark lack of screen time in which to earn the title "God Butcher" and his potential was washed away in a deluge of joke after joke after tired joke. Don't get it twisted though. Christian Bale's performance was fantastic. Whenever his underutilized villain was allotted a segment on-screen, I could feel the anguish and hatred as the emotions traced furrows across his pained brow, his dialogue dripping with palpability. But with every goat screech, slapstick bit or suggestion of a love triangle between Thor, his former hammer Mjolnir and his most recent weapon Stormbreaker, I felt as if Gorr was out of place, tonally speaking. Even established characters such as Jane and Valkyrie felt unrecognizable from themselves with their usual personalities swapped out for generic, goofy lines. Our titular character simply became a parody of himself as the script overcapitalized on his ponderous penchant for oafishness. The only character that truly felt at home in the morass of endless quips and levity was Korg considering he’s never been presented as a particularly solemn entity.

And speaking of, Korg's overused, ham-fisted exposition washed over any hopes of subtly or subtext and many subplots were either totally ignored or relegated to a brief mention with no payoff. The power struggle for leadership of the Guardians of the Galaxy between Starlord and Thor (hinted at in the closing act of Endgame) was reduced to a gag. Valkyrie made a mere utterance on the weariness she felt for the responsibilities of being king which gets glossed over before moving on to the next joke. Toothgnasher and Toothgrinder, Thor’s legendary goats, were distilled into a one-note running gag based on a more than decade old meme. Jane's quest for Mjolnir consisted of an absurdly brief overview of Asgard becoming a tourist attraction (more missed potential). Sif’s short reunion with Thor was hijacked by the notion that she, one of the greatest warriors Asgard has ever seen, doesn’t understand the requirements to get into Valhalla for the sake of a jape. Then, a character’s passing on to Valhalla as one of the few emotional beats in the film swiftly had the rug pulled out from beneath it when said character was greeted by a cheerful former ally, thought lost, boasting a "Hey, you're dead too" line. The list goes on. The thing that sucks regarding the humor, other than it drowning out the plot and overstaying its welcome, is that even the jokes I would normally find humorous fell flat because I had already been beaten into a sense of numbness by the incessant torrent of jokes that didn't land.

I could go on for several paragraphs more about what I felt was wrong with the film but it isn't necessary and would just devolve into a pity party of complaints (hasn't it already?). I will just end it by saying: Either Waititi needs a shorter leash or Marvel needs to hand the next Thor film to someone that will do the franchise and characters justice.

The comedy falls flat too often, and the attempts at comedy undercut any gravity of the other scenes.

Ragnarok for me was super enjoyable and I was excited to see the next Marvel installment by Waikiki, but boy was I wrong. Huge opportunities are missed here with the Gorr the God Butcher character, Comedy relief is forced for no good reason, and anytime kids are overused as main plot points I usually roll my eyes. If you want a family friendly film, then go watch Clifford the Big Red Dog and leave Thor alone! I will not include spoilers, but this nonsensical bologna needs to stop. The property and stories already exist, STOP TRYNING TO MAKE THEM YOUR OWN! This film ends with a new character that doesn't exist in Marvel literature and leads you to a pretty "easy to figure out" next installment that NOBODY should be excited for... This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

The movie has some nice bits but on the whole it was just more of the same, with excessively childish humour mixed with copious same sex references all over the place, which makes one wonder who the hell the target audience of this thing is. I definitely am not going to take my son for this one - was going to because were both fans of Ragnarok and Taika is the director there too. I'm not a conservative nut job and am generally open minded but I fail to see why sexual references (hetero or otherwise) need to be in a movie like this. It's just jarring. Unfunny. Too unserious. Wayyy off the mark. Nice visuals though.
Too much of anything is never good, and that's written all over THOR 4. The right parts (in plot and the cast) were present to have made what could arguably be one of the best MCU movies out there (and outright the best MCU PHASE 4 movie so far) but somewhere along the line, it got botched. Thor is over a thousand years old, he's lost his father, mother, brother, home (and favorite hammer), and he's gained some friends over the years that might've made his pain bearable, but there's no way he could have ended up being this... This WAY! There're just too many stupid plot lines in this film. Thor from Endgame/Infinite War is still the best Thor iteration yet; that brooding, weight of the world on his shoulders hunk of a god aura he had, not this wise-cracking, unfunny jock ****

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Thor is basically a slapstick comedy. Every 20 seconds or so there is a joke of some kind. The goofiness is something one would expect in a Deadpool movie, but even the Deadpool movies are not this over the top with jokes. The God Butcher doesn't do anything like maybe butchering god's. How can you water down Thor? Give his power to about 30 kids and tell them to fight gor's universal threats. This is an example of letting a director do anything they want without correcting him before he drives a movie into the ditch. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie proves that Disney has no idea what it's doing with their franchises, and are far more focused on appealing to as many audiences as possible at the cost of the integrity and interest in their own stories.

For one, they're treating Thor's character with an incredible amount of disrespect. Arguably, he is the most tragic hero in the entire MCU because he's lost everything and failed so many times at the cost of countless innocent lives. Yet Marvel is trying to make him out to be the but of every joke.

Meanwhile, a character like Wanda who's lost her brother and lover takes an entire town hostage to live out her fantasies, kills numerous sorcerers and many of our favourite characters in "Multiverse of Madness", and we're supposed to treat her like a tragic villain?

It's a shame that Disney does not respect their own original male characters anymore and are more in favour of leaving them to the curb while forcing their new female characters to be more likeable and potentially carry the future of the MCU (which, by the way, they won't...)

And that brings me to my next big problem; the fact that Mjolnir could be reforged and was done so by Jane Foster.

So let me get this straight, Marvel; not only could Mjolnir have been reforged, making the entire Stormbreaker arc in Infinity War absolutely pointless, it was reforged by Jane Foster of all people?

Every person who has ever worthy of wielding Mjolnir have all had the following things in common;
1.) They were super-human beings
2.) They dedicated their existence and powers to protecting and serving life

Thor had this. Vision had this. Captain America had this...

But Jane Foster certainly does not.

This only highlights the main problem that Disney has with its female characters. Its not the fact that they exist that's the problem. Its the fact that they become overpowered and flawless in every way for no sacrifice or cost (unlike every other MCU hero), and they give them the most screen time as if they've deserved it. That doesn't make for a good character; that's just incredibly lazy writing that will only serve to make similar female characters less desirable in the future (which is obviously the opposite of what Disney wants).

Then there's the problem with the Wish's existence. If that thing exists, it makes all other plot developments in past MCU films irrelevant!

Dark World war and Hela dying? Undone!

Ragnarok and Hela destroying Asgard? Undone!

Thanos searching for all the Infinity Stones? No need if he can force the Asgardians to take him to the Wish and use THAT to wipe out half the universe instead!

And, of course, there's the writing of this film as well, which is by all means a disaster which tries way too hard to recapture the success of it's previous film, "Ragnarok".

The entire film is just joke after joke; turning every moment whether suitable or not for a joke into a lead-up to some badly written one-liner. It doesn't allow any of the film's aspects to be taken seriously or with respect; especially Gor the god-killer who is one of the most bad-ass villains in all of Marvel's history who's treated like another disposable and shallow one-shot villain who's seriously under-powered. Disney is doing an absolutely horrible job with developing their stories and creating wonderful characters for us to follow and aspire to be like for future iterations of the MCU. They treat their more interesting and developed male characters as the comic relief, the under (and poorly) developed female characters like they can carry the entire film just by being there, and completely nullify previous plot and movie developments just to force their own stories to work after the first draft is done.

Definitely not worth watching.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Each new film Marvel rely solely on the actors performances when the script is awful. This unsecure Thor weights too heavy on Chris Hemsworth to the point you can't take him seriously when he acts or says something with wisdom. Killing Zeus (to later on you know he is alive) in that weak scene really throws the script out of the window. Thor equals Gorr by killing a god after not getting their help. Taika even goes in a gag of "killing" Korg to "justify" Thor's rage in mortaly wound Zeus. Jane Foster is not bad but the whole cancer drama its damaged by the script and the occasional "Im not lady" BS or Valkirie is a "king" stuff. I'm not even gonna mention the whole kids kidnapping and getting powers later on, that sh.. talks for itself. Despite the good Ragnarok film by Taika W. this one is of the worst Thor's film. Expand

The first Thor movie was an okay introduction and the second one was quite bland. In came Taika Waititi with Thor Ragnarok (2017), who made Thor a charismatic and fun character. Thor Ragnarok was no doubt one of the funniest and most enjoyable movies in the Thor franchise so far. It was no wonder that I was looking forward to Thor Love and Thunder when it was revealed Taika was returning as director. So did Thor: Love and Thunder deliver more fun or was this a big thundering step backwards?

Firstly, Christian Bale was phenomenal as Gorr, the antagonist, in this film. He delivered an amazingly unsettling performance that made him incredibly creepy. He also delivers on the sorrowful moments as well that make him very sympathetic. Amazingly, he can be both frightening and yet kind of root for him. Natalie Portman finally returns to the Thor franchise as Jane Foster after being absent in Ragnarok. Her return is very "mighty" as she isn't just a doctor that is around but now a hero in her own right. It was great seeing her return and it's great to see that the chemistry between her and Thor (Chris) is still there. She has her struggles to deal with it and Natalie does an outstanding job of conveying the pain that she is going through. Chris and Tessa return as Thor and Valkyrie respectively and they are still great. Taika is still fun as the rock person Korg. Russell Crowe is pretty enjoyable to watch as Zeus as well. The whole cast did a great job in their performance.

I also like the themes that are explored in the film. The exploration of love is a running arc for Thor throughout and I liked seeing him try to find "himself". There is also the theme of death in both Gorr and Jane's arc. It is handled wonderfully in both and I liked the resolution to it all as well. Legendary composer, Michael Giacchino, gives a colourful and bombastic score that works well for the movie. He also incorporates some great use of songs, similar to Guardians of the Galaxy, such as "Sweet Child o' Mine" by Guns N' Roses that just mesh well in the film. There are some pretty enjoyable action sequences but the most memorable is in the second act. There is a fight scene in the shadow realm that is just visually oozing with style.

Unfortunately, the comedy in this movie does not work. I just found the comedy in this movie to not be that funny. Ragnarok had some laugh-out-loud moments but Love and Thunder just never get those types of moments. Additionally, a lot of the humour comes from Thor being an idiot. In Ragnarok, he was a lot more comedic but he had an arc and an important decision near the end. Here he is just a comedic idiot throughout and he never gets that sort of big decision as he did in Ragnarok. He does have an arc but it's very weak. It's genuinely a shame that the titular character has been reduced to a joke in his film. On that note, the comedy isn't as prevalent as it was in Ragnarok. Ragnarok was a comedy throughout with some strong serious moments sprinkled in. Love and Thunder mesh half a comedy and half serious and this tonal clash hurt the movie. The serious moments are when the movie is at its best but then a dumb gag happens and damages the moment.

Christian Bale is the standout in this film but his character Gorr is barely even in the film. There is a whole middle act where he just isn't even there. He is also called the God butcherer but we don't even see him on screen actually butchering a god which is such a shame. Gorr needed more screen time to flesh out his character and show why he is a threat to the gods. They also don't show why Gorr killing gods is bad. There is one scene implying negative consequences but we don't see it either. This creates a problem where it feels like there isn't much at stake in the film even though there is supposed to be. The film just doesn't have much weight to it. In Ragnarok, Odin's death was meaningful, the brother's conversation was meaningful, Valkyrie's decision to help was meaningful, Thor embracing the God of Thunder was meaningful, and Thor letting Asgard blow up was meaningful. Love and Thunder just lacks a lot of these apart from one thing at the end that isn't even Thor. Overall, Love and Thunder is pretty disappointing. I expected something that was like Ragnarok but instead got something that felt like an attempt at Ragnarok. The comedy wasn't as funny this time and there are a lot more serious moments this time that is great but makes the comedy feel more jarring as it interrupts the moment. However, it is not downright terrible as there is enjoyment to be had here. It's just not a great Thor movie and definitely not as good as its predecessor. It's just okay and after over 20 MCU movies, okay just isn't good enough.

Losing what was great about Marvel films. Writing and flow missing. A lot done that didn’t make sense in the end.

This is, where the MCU truely hits rock bottom, makes me wonder, if I have treated other movies too harshly. 80% of this abomination is a redefintion of the word "bad", you'll probably find the movie poster next to the word in the Oxford dictionary. 20% are quite good and have a redeeming quality, but that is not enough to save the movie. In fact, the good things make the bad ones worse and there are a lot of bad scenes.

The main problem is, at it's core Thor Love & Thunder is a very serious movie with some interesting, adult topics and a really great villain on top. Yet the movie decides to be a caricature of itself, constantly ridiculing itself and trying so hard be funny, you'll grind your teeth.

From a technical perspective the movie looks really bad and plain wrong. There are beautiful scenes, but most of the time you think you are watching a game lifestream. All in all, don't watch, or prepare to be disgusted.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The movie was bad. I had so many expectations considering how the third installment in Thor was but this was just bad.

The movie tried to add a lot of jokes like Ragnarok but compared to it the jokes here failed, most of them were just lame, to say the least. Then the arcs of the movie were not good, the emotional ending of Jane did not hit well tbh. THe story too was just bland and had nothing compared to it compared to recent MCU films which were plot stuff. The CGI too was bad and many parts could easily be told a green screen this is a big downstep from previous MCU films

But one major highlight from the film was Gorr. Bale just nailed the character he was scary and it was amazing, every moment of him on the screen was amazing. The scene where they fought for the hammer was beautifully done and acted. However he too deserved a deeper storyline on what happened to his daughter and more, it felt like the director was just trying for a shorter film tbh.

TBH an extremely disappointing marvel film only good thing was the fight for the hammer and Gorr, otherwise, it was just bad

But since the movie is trying to sell a dramatic story, you have to judge it for that, and it becomes plain terrible.
Christian Bale is, by far, the best thing in the movie, but he is barely in it, in a movie that is clearly missing A LOT of footage, which also makes it incomprehensible at times.

Hard to believe this was made by the same people that made Ragnarok.

There's like zero sense of seriousness in this movie, totally out of MCU's style and most definitely not making any progress for the universe like they only wanted to just make a thor movie for the sake of cash grab

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Awful movie. Takes the viewers for idiots with bad dialogue and cringe moments worthy of the Office rather than in a Marvel movie. There is a moment when a recurring character loses an arm and is on the verge of dying and the whole scene is taken as a joke. Really embarrassing for the cast. I feel sorry for them. Don't bother watching. Even when it comes out on Disney+. Expand

I have a hard time understanding that the same person who made Ragnarok also made this. Where the jokes landed at the right time in Ragnarok and were actually funny, in this movie it was the complete opposite. Korg became the new Jar Jar Binks, the romance with Jane drowned in "joke" after "joke, and the enemy never really felt like a real enemy (Bale did a great job tho). It just felt flat, boring and never engaging in any shape or form. Just a continous flow of stupid jokes 100% of the time and Thor - more than ever - felt like a clown, but now without the charm from the previous films. I dont know if its a sign of Marvel going downhill or just the director going overboard, but this was a real disappointment. Expand

If you only care about dumb fun, special effects, and jokes, you will probably love this movie. However, if you're a Marvel fan who is truly invested in these characters, their arcs, and their legacy, then this film is a complete slap in the face. This film felt more like a bad rom-com fanfiction rather than a quality, A-List Marvel film. Taiki takes characters with complex, deep arcs throughout the MCU timeline and treats them as nothing more than a laughingstock. This film revolves around the love of Thor's life slowly killing herself just to be with him one last time all while being hunted by a man who wants to kill Gods out of revenge for his dead daughter. The film's plot is incredibly dark and sad, yet we're expected to laugh at it. The opportunity for deep, developing moments for the characters and the villain in this story are thrown away for cheap gags.

The Guardians, Valkyrie, and Korg are completely useless to the storyline that it begs the question of whether they should even be in the film at all. Not only are they useless- the writers make them look completely pathetic and laughable as well. While the whole story is all about Thor and Jane, Taiki completely wasted the other characters and hurt their overall reputation and development. He turned them into characters they were never meant to be.

Taiki failed with this film. He does not manage to hold up to the bar that Ragnarok set whatsoever. There is no divide between serious plot progression and comedy and the writers show a complete lack of respect for the characters and their arcs. While there are some genuinely funny moments and entertaining scenes, the lack of effort put into the characters and their development is inexcusable.

Really shows how much marvel is scraping g the bottom of the barrel to string the universe together at this point. Lazy writing, completely pointless to the overall universe, and seems like a cash grab overall.

Great casting is the only positive.

If I were to summarize the movie, it makes the beloved character of thor, a god from Norse mythology, one of the most beloved characters, look a total dunce. It's almost like the writers want to emphasize how thor is an asshat, selfish and jealous man while Jane Foster, a WOMAN, is superior, selfless, strong, and dutiful.
They were able to make Thor, THE GOD OF LIGHTNING look pathetic. This is such a scummy way to keep your other characters on a pedestal. Jane Foster's character could have been so much better if only it wasn't built upon the fall of Thor's character. MCU keeps on alienating me, as a viewer watching it from my early childhood. I am all for strong female characters, but that's the key. 'Characters', not just 'I look more competent because men are incompetent. Even as a diehard fan, I no longer feel the urge to watch the movies because all I see are my heroes turning into clowns.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I came away from this film feeling depressed. Don't we go to watch films like this for some escapism? Instead I'm forced to watch a beloved character dying of cancer. It makes no sense to me why they decided to do this. The film would have been better if Jane had been cured by the hammer and stayed a superhero. Do we have to have terminally ill people represented in films now? I came home with my girlfriend and we both sat in silence feeling miserable before arguing and going to bed. That's the effect it had on us. Thanks Taika. Expand
