The premise of the story could have been good. What doesn't make sense is the cinematography. How is it possible it looked so beautiful in 1999 and now it looks like a cheap amateur movie? Same thing with LOTR and The Hobbit, the cinematic feeling of real film was replaced with the sterile awkward framerate of digital 8k soap opera shaky cam nonsense.

The original Matrix had such careful attention to detail, everything had the film grainy green look and cinematic feel. This new one felt like watching a clueless high school student was given 100 million to create a soap opera. I can't even get into the story, the legendary cinematography of the original was replaced with the worst visuals in any high budget movie I've ever seen. It just doesn't make sense why anyone would do this? I could have hired a 12 year old to film a better Matrix movie, it's mindboggling just how absolutely terrible it looks.… Expand

Strongest disappointment of the decade. Why, why it was necessary to resurrect the matrix, and even so mediocre. Even a copy of the beginning of the film was made worse than it was in the original episode.

The 2nd and 3rd film are what they are.. weren’t the best sequels but we’re watchable in that era.

This fourth film.. I want to gouge my eyes out with bleach. I can’t believe Keanu signed up for this, and I’m glad Lawrence and Hugo haven’t made an appearance they must have respect for their work and craft. The story is god awful, why they’ve decided to dig up the old story and add onto it I have no idea. The fight scenes are like watching your drunk uncle trying to fight other people at the Christmas party, and the portrayal of Morpheus leaves a lot to be desired the same goes for agent smith. These characters were brought to life by the actors and to replace them and to try again just feels lazy and sub par to the originals I didn’t have high hopes but I didn’t think it could be this bad. And why that guy from how I met your mother is in it makes it even worse. I’m glad I didn’t pay money to see this in the cinema.… Expand

I felt like I was watching a fan film remake of the original by a freshman high school drama student with a GoPro that just so happens to be dying of cancer so Keanu and Carrie--Ann help out via the Make a Wish Foundation. NPH tries so hard to save this movie but it's just not the right fit for him to play the bad guy. After playing Barney in HIMYM this was simply bad casting for this Analyst role. Don't even get me started on the casting for Morhpeus, Agent Smith and Bugs. This is up there with Tommy Wiseau's The Room- it's pure cringe. "Oh Haiii Morhpeus" was the first thing I thought of when credit's rolled. There are some great drinking games that could be made our of this movie, so at least something good came from this film. I give it a 1 because we did have some fun making fun of this movie.… Expand

It is a movie so bad that it seems like the director was trying to make as awful of a matrix movie as they possibly could. The self-referential metafictional elements are so cringeworthy and lame that the movie comes off like a bad fan film. At its best, there are brief hints of ideas that could have been used in a better way. As a whole, the movie feels cheaper and more dated than first movie which came out over 20 years ago. It seems like the Wachowski who worked on this forgot the first thing about why people liked their movies in the first place. There is no element of this that is at all redeemable or enjoyable. The directing, acting, casting, score, cinematography, editing, etc. etc. are all so disgustingly bad as to be amazing that anyone who even saw the first Matrix was remotely involved with this one. The fight scenes aren't even good, confusingly edited and appearing cheap and fake. The casting of the villains is borderline criminal. Even the set design is uninspired and dated. The film appears to be set in the cringiest part of the early 2010's, even the outfits the characters appear in being unimaginative and unstylish. It feels like this was made as some kind of medium for promoting "diversity and inclusiveness", as it has been seen with so many film as of late - something that always seem to fail, as it forces the narrative and art of the movies/shows, instead of letting it shine trough naturally.... На 40 минуте фильма 3 из 4 людей из компании с которой я пришел в кино проголосовали уйти с сеанса, это первый раз в моей жизни когда я действительно хотел встать и уйти из зала.... и лучше бы я ушел. После окончания кино нам даже нечего было обсудить, мы просто были в шоковом состоянии, даже в отрыве от вселенной Матрицы это невероятно скучное кино, после часа просмотра все просто ждали когда уже фильм закончиться. Just about every aspect of film making is either mediocre (music, sfx, choreography, casting) or just embarrasingly terrible (model design, camerawork, plot). There are machines with big Disney eyes and cute tiny robots giving high-fives, for God's sake... The scene where Trinity learns to fly is so cheap that it's meme-worthy. Fighting scenes are cut to 30-milisecond shreds like in a cheap action movie from the 90's, you can't make out the choreography most of the time. Plot is cheap and uninspired, and it simply does not make any sense in the long run. Back when the original trilogy came out, it probably wouldn't make it to a fan-fic collection.

Real sorry for Keanu. He already took part in the biggest disappointment in video games. Now, they put him in one of the biggest disappointments in cinema.

The only redeeming quality is that the makers seem to confess and apologize by inserting this allegory of a burnt-out game designer forced by corporate interests to make a sequel he never wanted.… Expand

Just like the recent Star War “re-boot” sequels, this is another example of Hollywood digging up their most loved and famous franchises, and utterly destroying their legacy and memory in order to remake the central themes, characters andJust like the recent Star War “re-boot” sequels, this is another example of Hollywood digging up their most loved and famous franchises, and utterly destroying their legacy and memory in order to remake the central themes, characters and archetypes for a modern society social agenda. This goal seems to be much more important that staying true to fans, a series, and even money — as I doubt this film will do well at the box office and highly doubt two additional movies will be made from this content. From the very beginning of the movie, we see whole sequences that simply re-hashes of the original film, only with slight alterations to make way for the new characters. B-roll from the original trilogy is intercut extensively through the whole movie to remind us these scenes and sequences are supposed to be familiar. But these scenes are not nearly as well done or enjoyable as they were the first time and beg the question: were there no new ideas? Just like in the new Star War franchise, we see a new cast of characters that seem far too young and fresh faced to be believable in their roles. They have about the “grit” of armchair gamers sitting in a cyber cafe — not the charisma and gravitas of Lawrence Fishburne as Morpheus in the original films, who you believe has fought his whole life in an underground war against the machines. Unfortunately, even Keanu Reeves delivers a tired performance — with no fire of his previous character (which is already understated due to Keanu’s style as an actor) I’m a big fan of Keanu Reeves and I really came to see this movie for him, and was sad to see such a lack of enthusiasm or development of Neo. Story-wise, we pick up with Neo (as Thomas Anderson, his Matrix-world, blue-pill personality) as a game designer who is internationally known — get this — for his game franchise “The Matrix.” Yes, the entire first 3 movies in their entirety and exactness, exist within this world as a video game that Thomas Anderson wrote. He thinks he wrote it all from his imagination (stay with me) but they are actually repressed memories of his previous life as the real Neo. It’s a bit hard to follow, especially because it sometimes feels like this is a movie about Keanu Reeves as an actor, famous for the Matrix, and not a reprisal of his role in a new trilogy. What I found ironic is that Thomas Anderson’s company is working on a new game trilogy, a sequel to the Matrix, and we see scenes of his creative team talking about what would be needed in a sequel to have the same impact on the world that the original Matrix had (funny). They bring up ideas like “challenging people’s perception of reality” and “iconic action sequences” — all true, and clearly meant to communicate to the audience what they want to add to this movie. Except, none of those elements are actually in the movie. They completely missed the boat. Once the slightly confusing, winks to the audience and original trilogy are over and we get to the “red pill moment” of our main character the film completely collapses as a compelling story or having any sense of high stakes or consequences for failure. They make Neo and Trinity’s romance from the original trilogy the central theme and motivation of Neo, which was probably the weakest narrative of even the original movies. It’s even more lazy this time around. If you’re at least hoping for some innovative action sequences or a re-imagining of “bullet time” I have more bad news — nothing but gimmicks and nothing memorable. The final action sequence at the end is downright laughable at it’s total absurdity. I wish that I could say even one good thing about this movie, as I had every hope of enjoying it even as mostly mindless entertainment. But I honestly cannot think of one redeeming quality as either an action movie, an addition to a franchise, or even as a hard-core Keanu Reeves fan. Skip this one to send a message to Hollywood that we won’t accept such lazy, worthless sequels. I promise, you will miss nothing here even if you are a huge fan of the series.… Expand

I completely understand that people can sit through something awful, be unaware that it's awful, and then enjoy it, and good for them. But, just because you think something is good, does not make it so. I for one, absolutely **** hated this film. I grew up watching the trilogy, people bash the second and third instalment but at the age of thirteen, the scene in The Matrix Reloaded where Neo fights off a hundred-or-so Smith clones to the 'Burly Brawl' track, is one of my favourite scenes in cinema, to date. The problem with the people enjoying this film, the same crowd who sung the praises of the absolute turd that was The Rise of Skywalker, spout things like 'but you got to see Neo and Trinity on screen again'. You do realise it's possible for you to see those characters on screen, AND for the film to be excellent? The two aren't mutually exclusive?

'Oh how was the birthday party?'

'Oh well the house burned to the ground but there was cake at least'. Jesus christ people. Have some kind of even moderate expectation in an art form worth BILLIONS of dollars. Fans like myself have been waiting some seventeen years for this sequel. So, when you spew absolute crap like 'Oh but the director didn't want to even make a sequel' or 'it advances the story of the trilogy, think about this; it doesn't. The film starts by telling us word for word, that the original three films weren't actually of any significance, they were video games. So, instant recognition for the source material completely pissed up the wall. 'Our parent company Warner Brothers... they want another sequel'

'What!?'

That's a line in the actual bloody film! How much adoration do you feel a director deserves, when they rock up to start filming and their attitude is 'Hmph, I don't like the fact that I'm being made to do this so I'm going to steamroll it'. Let me ask you this; how many sequels have you seen, where actual footage from previous chapters is used over and over again in the new one? No? The director makes you sit through a film, which rehashes scenes you've seen before (Neo fighting Morpheus in the Dojo was an insult and ten times worse than what it was 22 years ago) - THEN shows the original footage alongside it. So you're seeing the same scenes, twice over. What about the establishment of characters? Well, Neo and Trinity are back (which seems to be the ONLY positive anyone can find) but Morpheus and Agent Smith, arguably two of the most iconic hero and villains respectively, nowhere to be seen. Is their absence neatly written so that it at least makes sense? Nope. Morpheus is now a parody of the character he helped establish, and Hugo Weaving has been replaced by... exactly. There's also no lightning fast choreography which was such a huge part and appeal of the original trilogy, camerawork is janky and relies on rapid shot-changes to distract you from the fact that nothing worth seeing is even happening, and the acting is absolutely abysmal. Did you want a sequel which expanded on the franchise, or did you want a sequel which mocks the originals, cancels them out as 'Oh that stuff didn't actually happen', and spend most of the runtime showing you scenes you've seen before, albeit worse? The escape scene with Trinity, red pill/blue pill, the Dojo, Neo discovering 'none of this is real', it was all in the first film.

Oh but because I thought this film was **** I didn't understand it, or I'm 'transphobic' because Lana Wachowski is now a woman. Nope, it's just a horrible film and I could've written something better quite comfortably myself.… Expand

Everything that made the original Matrix amazing, they messed up. The acting was terrible, fight scenes were awful, I never cared about any of the characters, there was no tension at all, no suspense, and another thing I noticed is that Neo never once even held a gun. My heart breaks for Keanu Reeves & Carrie-Anne Moss who could not make this script work under any pretenses because of The Matrix Resurrections' unwavering forced woke culture garbage spewing out of every cinematic film grain. It does not surprise me that Lawrence Fishburne isn't Morpheus in this trash heap, and that his unnecessary replacement, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II falls woefully short of both the original actor and character. All the intelligence of the original trilogy has been replaced by offended culture and easy to construct and manipulate plot points that lead nowhere constructive. It is obvious that deception is the only effort put into this disaster, to stretch out a terrible and forced story into a two hour abomination that desparately pleads with the audience to remember the original trilogy as much as possible, even ripping lines and scenes blatantly from the Wachowski Brothers earlier work trying to polish this turd into the same content, failing at every level.
