Oh boy....I was hopeful this one would not repeat the mistakes of the past. If you look at who is giving this dumpster fire positive reviews, not a surprise. People don't like it and neither do I. The first half was most of the character kissing Neo's ass and CONSTANTLY talking about how cool and revolutionary the Matrix trilogy was. It had the cringiest dialogue I've heard since....Matrix revolutions. Every time they called back to the trilogy, the movie became worse. Yet, when they added new elements to the story, it had some promise. And I gotta say, Neil Patrick Harris did really well as the new villain. Every single shootout would have resulted in the main characters getting shot. This is another one of those movies where the bad guys have storm trooper aim just so the good guys can do a slow motion flip into shooting them. Philosophical added value: 0, Memorable action scenes: 0, logical and enticing plot: 0, inspiration less humor: 0, Memorable actors (besides Keanu and Carrie-Anne), 0, woke level: over 9000. I see so many reviews from 'Hollywood sponsored 'reviewers defending this movie. Don't mind these people. Every matrix-respecting fan wouldn't rate this sequel high. This is unfortunately nothing more than a cash grab with 0 added value. The other two sequels were a 10/10 compared to matrix resurrection. Take it from someone who has written a thesis on the matrix.

They just buried the entire trilogy. It is not possible to watch. One gets the feeling that students were filming this film. And, of course, the left-liberal agenda is very often traced.
All hopes for a worthy continuation have been destroyed.

Spoiler alert Trinity is the new Neo, cause nothing subverts expectations like just making the previous supporting female character into the new lead and chosen one. What a piece of crap! To think that this abomination of a movie has the same name of the infamous trilogy that changed action movies forever, you'd think you've been living inside an alternate universe where everything is a parody of itself.What a piece of crap! To think that this abomination of a movie has the same name of the infamous trilogy that changed action movies forever, you'd think you've been living inside an alternate universe where everything is a parody of itself. Trans and black majority main cast cater to the twitter and reddit mob while the mindless, sloppy jumble of mess that is the action scenes reminds me of marvel movies where everything but the kitchen sink is thrown in front of a green screen without any sense of direction or cohesion. The story is laughably skin deep and feels like an utter travesty when compared to the infinitely deep concept of the original films and neither the cinematography, music or anything used in this borefest is memorable or inspiring. Hollywood has truly become creatively bankrupt and not even the big boys from the past can save it anymore. All they care about anymore is to become more woke and try to devour every single beloved franchise out there until nothing is left anymore but utter crap. RIP.… Expand

It is a soulless remake of the first film, with everyone involved being too old, jaded and disinterested.

This is only the 3rd film I have walked out of in my life (I am 52 and watch movies religiously). I didn't even walk out of that Chris Pratt alien monster invasion movie... and they literally PUNCHED THE UNSTOPPABLE ALIEN QUEEN IN THE FACE.

Do yourself a favour... don't even begin watching this film, it has no saving grace whatsoever.… Expand

Bad. And not bad in a "So bad its good" kinda way. There is a line in the film which feels like the director speaking to the audience. There is a theory going around, I happen to agree with that the director made a bad movie on purpose. And the Wachowski's have been making limited interest artsy movies or big budget flops for a decade plus now. I streamed this movie with my girlfriend. And we both fell asleep at different places. That's not normal! Especially not for me on a first viewing of any film. On a movie with action sequences? Literally a first. The first Matrix changed film culture, and created imitators. The sequels, though less liked still told, in my opinion, a satisfying story. This is more like bad fan fiction than a sequel. It could have been a good movie. There are elements in there that had the potential to make a great film if done right. But whatever not terrible elements there were, they got done dirty. Thats for sure.… Expand

The first 45 minutes to 1 hour were intriguing and it seemed to be going towards a Total Recall type storyline and then the rest of the movie kicked in, negating the first hour of the film and it lost me. I managed to survave maybe 5 minutes of this trash. You may wonder... but how is it possible you are reviewing it... well, my friend paid for the movie so he decided to watch this pile of jokes. He admitted that he almost walked out 3 times. He talked about the movie for 45 minutes, not for the good reasons. The story is utter garbage and doesn't make sense. He admitted that he made a mistake for staying and watching it... he would gladly pay the money again to be able to forget about the movie. I managed to get it off the net to confirm. I skipped through it once again and what I can say, this is an offence to the original Matrix. I'm extremely polite Keanu Reeves agreed to play in this I guess there was a closure somewhere in his contract and he had no choice, no other reason to explain this.… Expand

It shows no respect for the material (as absurd as it seems from one of the original creators) or the viewers that hoped for a meaningful expansion of the Matrix universe. The returning actors definitely try their best, but could only do that much with the atrocious material they were given.

Shockingly enough, watching it on a dual screening together with the first movie, Resurrections doesn't even look or sound particularly well – the editing feels chaotic, CGI is mediocre and the soundtrack forgettable. The only way I can explain to myself how this movie happened the way it did is going along with the meta-narrative – maybe WB really forced Lana Wachowski to make this sequel and it's an act of industrial sabotage. If it was meant to make a laughing stock out of Warner Brothers and make sure to kill off the whole series for the future, that'd be the one thing it very much succeeded with.… Expand

Well kind of; he can't fight, he can't use any powers and is no longer the hero. He can stop bullets; which he does over and over again and a completey useless punch. By the end, you are hoping one of the bullet scenes loops takes him out to end both his misery and the audience. By the end he is completely subservient to trinity; apparently she was the hero entire time. Not forced at all; made complete sense (sigh).

All the scenes are utter rubbish; jumble story that is forced and looks like a college class production. Something about humans and love conquers all with just terrible plot points that go nowhere. Acting and directing at all time low. The opening scene is just terrible and jumbled; it's like they shot everything in a 20ftx20ft set only.

The good:
+1 star - for any scene with neil patrick harris, he really did a great job and any of his scenes were well done. Made a terrific "bad guy". Unfortunately that is about 15mins of movie.

Some nostalgia and cut backs to old movies; probably best parts.… Expand

Huge fan of the franchise here. I've watched the first film easily over 100 times, and although 2 & 3 had their issues, I still appreciate and enjoy them for what they brought to the table. Naturally I saw this film on opening night and even bought 10 tickets for my friends to come along. The apologies I've had to make to everyone I took along, speak volumes about how big the downgrade is with this film vs. everything that's come prior.

* The action, worse
* The lighting, colours, cinematography, and overall look of the film feels more like a tv show than a Matrix film
* The writing/dialogue/pacing, worse
* The audio, worse. (couldn't make out some dialogue, soundtrack/score is a huge step down)
* The 40mins of over-done meta commentary at the start of the film quickly becomes painful to watch
* Virtually all the characters felt underdeveloped
* Strong fan-film/parody vibes for almost all the runtime

The film isn't completely without ideas or moments with potential, but they're all drowned out under the weight of it's many problems.

Maybe giving this film a 1 rating is too harsh, but all things said and done, I'd rather I hadn't even seen it.… Expand

Seriously. What did you really expect? Much closer to the second film than the first. The CGI and special effects quality will surprise you on how low level they are. Hes still stuck in Johnny Silverhand mode from Cyberpunk 77. The propaganda is amped up to 11 like you would expect. Everything about this is either bad or just off. Leaving you a similar bad taste in your mouth that the Matrix 2 did. Only instead of the flavor of body sweat this film leaves you thinking you just got a face full of urine. Far more insulting. Barely cohesive enough to function.

Its truly a bizarre sight to see a director so oblivious as to why people liked the original source material. Then again it should not really be that shocking. The matrix never actually was about what the real matrix is. If you were online during those days and somewhat knew these hidden stories that are now the lore of the internet and proto dark web, you would know things like The Black Vault. The Matrix document has NOTHING to do with this franchise and it was basically leeching off something much more fringe and dark. So its that sort of drop off and disrespect for the orignial film from the true source material do you see here with this "film" from the Original Matrix movie. Basically unrelated. Simply sharing the same name.

Dont bother watching unless you want to be underwhelmed, disappointed by a preachy and bloated vanity project.… Expand

That's what should have been on the poster for this Abomination of a movie. "Not like this..." would have been tasteful too.

The Matrix Resurrections is fan fiction, written while making burned toast by people that did not understand the original movies. The point of the matrix is that not everything is the way you think it is, just because someone tells you it is that way. Are you making genuine choices, or are you fooled into believing that you make your choices? The problem with humans, to keep them happy in the matrix while the machines use them as batteries, is that they need the illusion of choice to accept the simulated reality around them.

The Matrix trilogy is one of thé, if not the best, movie franchise to have included strong philoshycal and religious imagery into its movie without ever saying it out loud. The subtlety with which this has been implemented in the movies is so good that you can watch the original movies ten times and learn something new every time. With Resurrections you are guarenteed to want to slice your own wrists a bit more every time you watch it.

Philosophy, religious imagery and strong themes like choice, love and destiny are gone in favor of futuristic and comedic elements like programmes that have actual emotions instead of seeing them like a word in their program. Neo is trapped in the matrix with Trinity who has been brought back to life for the second time in the franchise, only to serve as a plot point and to suddenly have powers like the One. A new version of the matrix and its new architect try to harnass the power between Neo and Trinity as there are 'power shortages', and the machines now wage war amongst each other... which is by far the dumbest idea to have been introduced into this movie.

Zion has been rebranded through the powers of CGI and is now called IO. Morpheus is dead because Laurence Fishburne was smart enough not to return for this travesty, and Agent Smith is played by a new actor because Hugo Weaving was also not touched in the head. Jada Pinket Smith returns as Niobe, with some of the worsed de-aging make-up i've seen in a long time. Even though IO is huge, we only ever really see one particular platform where almost every IO scene is shot... very lazy. The same can by the way be said for most of the movie. Small sets that copy parts of the original movies are used for its scenes, and most of the world is CGI.

I'm not sure what to say. If someone told me the story of this movie and asked me if it would make for a worthy sequel, i would have told them to seek medical attention. This is the same dumb, lazy and out of touch sequel **** like Independence Day Resurgence, The Predator and Alien Covenant. One of the Wachowski brothers might have been involved in this, but it sure seems like none of the original creators were.

I hate this abomination. I'm glad i didn't have to watch this in theatres. **** you Warner Bros. **** you Keanu for accepting this disgraceful movie rol. 1/10. Better ideas have been cancelled, just like this should have been.… Expand

Я заставил себя досмотреть ЭТО - но не матрицу или продолжение матрицы. Всё же Братья Вачёвски умели лучше чем женщины Вачёвски.
21 век - апогей упадка культуры и ценностей и это выражено в фильмах, играх, музыке и многом другом. Креативность превратилась у многих в коричневую жижу.

Bad. Really bad. Boring. Self-referential to an absurd and lazy degree. Contrived. Bad CGI. Bad choreography. As a long time martial artist, I'll say the fight choreography in this film was BAD. The previous Matrix films' fight scenes were like a dance. This film? No. As if those issues aren't bad enough, I see blatant woke-ism in changing "the one" to be "the two" and how Trinity is even stronger than Neo or at least can fly first. A bit contrived? I wonder if the other Wachowski "brother" was the true creative? Oh and speaking of blatant woke-ism, how about the coffee shop scene where she poses the question about whether she as a woman has been culturally programmed to want kids?!… Expand

You can tell Wachowski didn't even want to be involved as the film breaks the fourth wall and states it at the beginning.
The new actors are terribly miscast and there's a huge disconnect whenever they are on screen. There's no fear or tension throughout the entire film. It's obvious they are trying to create a franchise like Marvel with their lowest common denominator humor, flashy action pieces, and no substance. And, just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, the ending is basically like a slap to the face to all those who loved the original films. I mean Neo has a force-field... LOL

All I can say is I hope the old actors involved in the original got paid upfront. Any review that scores it above a 6 got paid to do so.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. the original matrix was a deep symbolic dive into the overall psycho/spiritual human condition, this movie just seems like its made for people in their 40s and 50s who are having a midlife crisis and are going through career changes and a divorce. the action is so bad it feels like a bad CW tv series. I'm honestly shocked that this made it out of the editing room with no one stopping its release, im not sure if it really was just Lana pouring gasoline onto the franchise and lighting it on fire because she didnt want the studio taking her creation and **** it up themselve. it really didn't have as much woke garbage as I expected,(other than trinity riding around with neo on her back on a motorcycle which made me laugh out loud and her awakening first) it was just hollow, the new architect was the analyst, maybe it's taking a shot at modern psychiatry being used as a tool for control that is more effective than using violence but it was so poorly executed it felt like a comedy at many parts,. just wow… Expand

There are a few things I don't understand at all.
1) Didn't the authors see what they were doing? When was the script written or when filmed or when editing a film??

I just go crazy for what I looked. It's just a downfall into cinematic hell.

In this film, everything is done wrong. Hands did not come off the face after the first fifteen minutes until the very end.
How did they manage to do it so badly? Why didn't anyone take the liberty of stopping the process and sending it back for revision? Where they were in a hurry is not clear at all.

Fights? Disgusting.
You did great fights in the first three films. Why couldn't you do the same in this?

Dialogues? Disgusting. The characters are incoherent. They just ... I have no words.

Music? I don't remember her at all. Was she even in this movie?

The characters in the film ... oh my god, I don't understand why you did all this. They just took everything and flushed it down the toilet.

What the hell was the point in all this? Everything in this film is very, very poorly done.
In no case do I recommend watching this. And fans of the trilogy should be doubly careful not to approach this "movie" even a single step.… Expand

Но главное в Матрице - это многослойный и философский сюжет... до сих пор люди находят нюансы и детали, которые поражают воображение. То что мы получили сейчас.. это... АнтиМатрица, это жалкое паразитирование на культовой вещи. Мне вдвойне жаль, что к этому приложил руку один из авторов оригинала. Хотя, теперь очевидно, что она, увы, "не умеет", а Матрица - стала культом в результате работы команды талантливых людей, в которых Вачовски был лишь одним из.. и судя по всему - далеко не самым важным. Ни один элемент в этой киноотрыжке - не переплюнет оригинал и оба сиквела. Даже всё что скопипастили, выглядит хуже оригинала. Возможно, я не прав, и время покажет, но... пока, я ставлю этому фильму "1 бал", только по тому, что он, на какое то время, дал мне надежду, пусть она и не оправдалась. У всех своё мнение, но я ощутил это так, как если бы, теперь уже сестра, плюнула всем фанатам в лицо. п.с.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This film was so utterly bad there were moments I had to look away. Its so cringe worthy at times I was afraid that whatever pestilence has been poured into this thing might transmit from the screen into my soul. Im at a loss for words, its simultaneously a tragedy and a crime against what was a brilliant original. When Neo is cowering like an old man on Trinity’s bike, sticking out his hand to do that shockwave like a stiff magneto with Alzheimer’s I lost it. This is insanely bad. Its beyond comprehension. He just spams that shockwave over and over and it looks atrocious. You'll see, it's possibly the worst climatic scene ever, it's shocking.

Anyone who enjoys this is probably a tad simple, and that's OK. But if you have a normal iQ, are relatively stable mentally, then this will be a waste of your time and money.… Expand

I tried to like this movie. Wanted to like this movie. But I feel like Im taking crazy pills. I understand a moderate difference in perspective, but how can anyone love a movie with another movie from 22 years ago spliced in to the point ofI tried to like this movie. Resurrections feels like a made for TV fan fiction adaptation. I could forgive the bad cinematography and ropey VFX if the writing and editing were better. It's pretty baffling how a movie can be this bad across the board. From the cringey dialogue, poor acting, to overly long non-sensical expositions, boring action, boring characters, lack of music, lack of originality, lack of story and endingIt's pretty baffling how a movie can be this bad across the board. From the cringey dialogue, poor acting, to overly long non-sensical expositions, boring action, boring characters, lack of music, lack of originality, lack of story and ending with a terrible cover of the original Rage Against the Machine song. Interesting parts were underdeveloped and everything else non-interesting was overly developed. Scenes and dialogue from the first film were quite literally reused here. It reminded me of the Boondock Saints sequel which was almost literally a copy of the first.

What's most baffling was the early meta-commentary on bad sequels and studio pressure. Was the film purposefully being meta about how bad it was or did they think this was actually a different kind of sequel? In the first film you had snippets of Baudrillard's reference to Simulacra and Simulation. The Matrix Resurrections feels like a photocopy on it's fourth scan of the original; best avoided all together and removed from the first trilogy.… Expand

A sleeping pill for everyone.. yes that is what this "MOVIE?" is.. or documentary.. i still don´t know what Lana Wachowski was thinking when she made it.. yes it is bad and not worth buying.
