I'm almost three hours closer to death and that time was utterly wasted by this drivel. I could sit here and write 3000-4000 words on everything that is bad or wrong with this movie but plenty have already echoed what I'd write and it's already wasted enough of my precious time. The only positive is that Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions are no longer the worst movies in the franchise. Compared to Matrix Resurrections, those two are positively masterpieces... Stick to the original trilogy. Hell, stick to the original first movie.

Spend your precious time on literally ANYTHING else.

A film that tries to tweak the idea of unnecessary reboots and sequels, but can't escape the fact that it truly is one. It tries to bend over backwards to justify its own existence but fails, and is often baffling.

Nothing memorable.

Nice parody! Absolutely despicable, never been disgusted before. The only explanation I can think of is that the creators of the movie has made it this way just to arouse our scorn and contempt, though I'm not sure why.

This movieAn intellectually bankrupt movie that spends approximately 15 minutes mocking the triviality of video games while stroking it's own nostalgic ego... I've played 1-man video games with more depth than this festering pile of trash. This movie is something, but it isn't good.

In a franchise like this (Star Wars, James Bond, Jurassic Park), you eventually reach the point where you realize that you've watched more bad films than good ones. The Matrix franchise is one excellent film, two middling films, and one utter piece of garbage. You start Matrix Resurrections in the middle of a nostalgia rehash of the original film, and you expect that it's just a plot device that will soon run it's course. And then it keeps going, and before you know it you're an hour into a film that is nothing but nostalgic call-backs to the original film, while trying to pretend that it's somehow not just a pathetic cash grab (that literally reuses footage from the original film).

Keanu looks like he's being held hostage, and like he's saying every line down the barrel of a gun. Despite 22 years of technological advancement, the effects are worse than the original film. If you paused a frame, the new film might look better, but in motion the effects are just jarringly bad. The acting is bad. The plot is stupid. It's really just the kind of film that I can't believe anyone even thought to make.

The choreography, cinematography, CG, wardrobe, and editing are on par with a cheap Syfy movie of the week; it's incredible that every single aspect on the visual side is worse than 20 years ago. There are far too many jump cuts to try and mask the poor fight choreography and every mildly interesting scenario is just a pale imitation of a sequence from the other movies. Neo now has a goofy looking forcefield/energy blast gimmick on top of his already OP The One abilities that removes the small amount of tension in combat because he can seemingly use it indefinitely to block any attack if he feels like it, I suspect some of it has to do with Keanu's age finally catching up with him; it was noticeable in John Wick 3 but it's very apparent here. The special effects, like bullet time and the agent's shifting into others are stylistically worse than the trilogy and there's a new VERY poorly done slow motion effect that is overused, especially by the new big bad, and the lighting is poorly done because the use of green/blue screen is always obvious. The weapons are just as atrocious; like a bad FPS game nothing feels like it has any weight to it and again looks cheap. There's also an introduction to friendly machine lifeforms that are named and designed like a throwaway Star Wars side character and it's all so tonally blind I couldn't help but laugh, one of them is a deus ex machina that just shows up and can solve half their problems.

Gone are the days of well researched and written philosophical quandaries and interpersonal experiences, now the dialogue is laughably bad and inappropriate for their scenes with plenty of hamfisted attempts at feminism. Instead of a clever wink and a nod to it's predecessors it is frequently and clumsily shoving references in your face while regularly showing clips from the trilogy, the first five times this happened I chuckled but when it kept on happening I couldn't stop from rolling my eyes. The machines have inexplicably become sexist towards women (the ending exchange is some of the worst writing I've ever witnessed) when they've always just put down the mankind as a species. Despite being humanity's saviour and knowing Trinity better than anyone Neo is constantly put down and told his opinions are inconsequential when requiring multiple attempts to her out even though the others needed multiple to save Neo, to paraphrase 'the most important choice of his life isn't his to make'. The One's code is also shared by two now, get it they're non binary huh huh you get it? It's very clever. This whole choice is strange because in the trilogy women play the most important roles human outside of Neo and Morpheus: Trinity saves Neo's life, helps him every step of the way, and kicks all kinds of ass throughout, the Oracle is one of the most key beings in the story, the council is half female, Niobe is the best pilot humanity has, they couldn't have defeated the Merovingian without Persephone, women stop the machine's drills, etc

Oh, and on top of all that there isn't a single memorable piece of new music in the film.

TL;DR
It feels like a bad fan-fiction that lacks any of the identifiable traits that made the trilogy so beloved, Resurrections is in no way worth watching.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The first half of the Movie is really great, and they did actually the impossible to create something new and unexpected here. Afterwards, you get introduced to a lot of new characters, who don't bring much personality to the table, that would somehow affect the plot, and only kind of do their jobs. And since you can't really care about them, all the action scenes fall flat, and seem kind of noisy, not having much impact or meaning to them, besides of serving as action sequences. Some parts seem very hastily done, like Neo getting imprisoned and freed a few seconds later, when they could have told him spending weeks there in a minute of screentime, a missed oppertunity to explore how (differently here) he would deal with it. I guess it's just lazy writing, as well as the finale, where trinity and neo just duck off, leaving their companions for dead. Anyhow, if the matrix was an important movie to you, you will enjoy this one as well, and it's easy to forgive the movie some sloppyness. What i really don't get is though, how the free people live under an authoritarian military rule. I mean, couldn't the moviemakers imagine something more uplifting, than saying that the next best alternative to what we have now would be actually worse, politically. This way the movie seems more like a threat than allowing you to think something else somehow... Expand

And it obscures some of its better commentary in smatterings of techno-babble. Nevertheless, it offers up a number of excellent twists on the theme, including one big one that would have been excellent to see in the first film. Perhaps the world wasn't ready back then for action films with big ideas. Regardless, it is now and this Matrix tries and often succeeds in delivering an action-thriller which cares as much about its ideas as its set pieces and fight sequences. And, if some of its bolder messages -- like questioning the necessity and value of neverending war -- are an awkward fit for a film that revels in so many explosions, it pokes enough fun at itself (and the Matrix universe in general) to get away with it. Audience disagreement could be seen as part of the overall joke; as in, "Did you really choose to like or dislike the Matrix, or was that just your programming?" Expand

I only even went to see this because a friend of mine was a big matrix fan (Key words there "Was") and wanted to know how Neo and Trinity are still alive since they both died in 3. Well lets just say he was really disappointed with it and well Like i said I didnt care.
If you are a Die Hard Matrix fan you will see this most likely no matter what i say but you may want to consider not seeing it to preserve your enjoyment of the original Trilogy if you are not a fan of woke trash being shoved down your throat.

I've read all the wikis, own paraphernalia, played the games and debated theories to this day. The first movie was so well thought you could never stop finding interesting new references every time. I could talk about it like if it came out yesterday.

This...is nothing like the movies I fell in love with. And I went into that theater ready to pour my heart on it. Hell, the unreal demo had me FREAKING GOING...but the premise, the music, the new characters, the convolutedly dumb plot, and sub par choreography made me feel like I was watching another movie, like a parody or a different interpretation of the Matrix. After watching it, the first thing I did was going back home and watching the originals again in an attempt to cleanse my eyes of what they had seen. I will say there's some good and interesting aspects of the movie, but oh man the bad outweighs the good by tons.

I created this account out of the grief of seeing this movie and the need to release my disappointment to anyone caring to read. I can only recommend seeing it once if you are a fan of the series and need some closure.

There are some great scenes and ideas, but the movie as a whole doesn't feel like Matrix at all. They turned it into a messy fairy tale and at many points it feels hollow.
Scenes with Niobe were great, acting was superb, and I wish the movie centered around Neo and her. All in all, too much of mambo jumbo and hocus pocus. The Matrix worked because it was grounded in reality. This one went on a fantasy trip...

Instead we get a sub par action scifi film that reads more like a tv pilot from the twilight zone with a higher than average vfx budget. The opening segment of the movie also seems to openly mock the original trilogy fans which i found quite pretentious.

I consider the original trilogy high art with some of the most groundbreaking visual effects, soundtrack and fight sequences put to celluloid but with this movie i honestly struggle to wrap my head around what lana was thinking to achieve with this sub par production.

It is a watchable boring mess of a film.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Looking at the reviews I feel like I was overly harsh so here's the most fair review I can write sans political angling by both “woke” and anti-woke people(both of which have no place in constructive criticism): Resurrections is definitely watchable but mostly retread ground, it ends up being a poor facsimile of what came before it. The ending feels unearned because of poor character development throughout. Here’s my personal list of nitpicks:

-The first 20 minutes are pure cringe. The writer clearly had no idea how to resurrect Neo and went overly meta with a game designer identity even name dropping Warner Brothers and referring to bullet-time repeatedly.

-The slick action is gone and replaced with what seems to be endless incoherent pseudo-intellectual rambling.

-The slick Cinematography is gone, the Matrix isn’t even tinted green anymore to differentiate it from the real world.

-The fight choreography is just bad and the jumpy editing doesn’t save it.

-It feels the need to continuously justify its existence via visual callbacks to the original.

-Neil Patrick Harris was an absolutely terrible pick for the analyst. I’m still not clear what his character’s job even was.

-The surrogate for Morpheus is so meta it becomes pure cringe, even making fun of the original. I actually liked Smith’s surrogate though, well done there.

-The exiles scene made no sense, they were throwaway characters to begin with. Just why?

-Neo is now too powerful despite the matrix being reset and his amnesia.

-For me the ending was thouroughly predictable given the clear pattern throughout the film of every male character being overly emotional and every female character being cool and calculated. Sadly because of this in the end Trinity’s ascension just doesn’t feel earned primarily because the suffering was all Neo’s and always had been. The only way in which Trinity even remotely can be said to have “earned” this power is her being stuck in an identity she hated and that wasn’t her, finally she finds freedom and becomes her true self(i.e. clearly the writer’s surrogate character which is not bad just poorly done).

-Finally: while this is likely unintentional on the writer’s part the ending feels like a middle-finger to Matrix fans where the writer assumes as fans we are all only interested in male saviors and that “it’s time for change”, which for me is untrue. I’m interested in well written stories and fleshed out characters in which saviors, regardless of gender, deserve to be saviors because of the trials they went through. Had Trinity been the main character instead of Neo and went through what Neo went through she fully would have deserved that power and the film would have been better for it! In fact I am surprised that route wasn’t taken.

Honestly, I'm a fan of Wachowski movies. I think they're special filmmakers - unconventional and somewhat profound. From The Matrix to Cloud Atlas to Jupiter Ascending, and even the much maligned Matrix Revolutions I've found them allHonestly, I'm a fan of Wachowski movies. I think they're special filmmakers - unconventional and somewhat profound. From The Matrix to Cloud Atlas to Jupiter Ascending, and even the much maligned Matrix Revolutions I've found them all brilliantly intriguing. However, The Matrix Resurrections is a different movie.

It differs so much from its original trilogy the only commonalities they share are their titles and characters. This movie looks modern, polished, and very in the times - a whole lot more than the trilogy that precedes it but it unfortunately, ends up feeling much cheaper and very conventional.

There's some beautiful CGI and Visual Effects, some of which is entirely impressive. So the movie looks good enough and properly 2021. It also presents concepts that shine and introduce some new ideas or implementations of AI programs in cinema. And this is one of only a few positives the movie offers - positives are few and far between. While, it also does an OK job of representing aspects of our current world within the context of The Matrix.

The movie certainly doesn't take itself too seriously. It does not try to be revolutionary and while that could have been a plus, in the end, it plays out negatively. The plot is weak, sterile and unexciting. Its action sequences are poor and barring the casting of Neil Patrick Harris as The Analyst and Toby Onwumere as Seq most of the cast of the movie while talented - seem completely out of place, and uninspired. As if, they were simply - easy and convenient casting choices.

Every Matrix movie from the original trilogy was about a world vast and deep, with consequences that carried a whole lot more purpose for everyone linked to that world including its audiences, this movie however is based upon simpler, less interesting, less impactful - terms. There's some sprinkling of profundity within The Matrix Resurrections but throughout the movie it seems to be battling with the depths and grandeur of its past so much that it fails, and cannot realize its purpose. It cannot escape the shadow of its predecessors, it does not separate itself from them, and it ends up being worse off as a result.

It tries to do too much and explain too much all in one movie. So much so that this fourth installment alone could be a trilogy of its own, which I think would have helped the story and its characters - but here, everything is rushed and packed into this singular title that just ends up feeling a little ambitious but truly disjointed. While sometimes literally trying to recreate its past.

This is probably not only the poorest Matrix movie but also the poorest and most meaningless Wachowski Movie. Perhaps, the point was to kill any hope, idea, or possibility of the franchise having a future. Because this is a lifeless, conventional, and unfortunate disappointment.

I very much enjoyed this movie. As a fan of the series and a fan of the prequel Animatrix, I found the main arc of the story to be quite innovative and clever.

My main complaints about the movie have more to do with the delivery of the story, the feeling of it overall being rushed, and the special fx being mediocre. I think this movie would have been much better in a limited series format, where they could take the time to properly evolve it and go a bit deeper.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I enjoyed the movie a lot. There is a lot of self-referential/meta-humour in the first third of the movie but it works well in my opinion, I don't think it is distracting or annoying and it also makes sense within the plot of the movie.

Since we already understand the matrix going into the movie, the bending of reality can be turned up a notch without confusing the viewer and I found that they made good use of that in the first act to still keep us guessing about what is "really" happening in the Matrix or what are superstitions within Neo's mind within the Matrix (so second-degree simulations, I guess).

Dialogue and in-universe concepts are multi-layered in a good way, many lines and aspects of the world are clearly social commentary not so coded that one would miss it but also not so blatant that they would be immersion-breaking.

Of course, there are some holes in the plot and some plot points are at least unclear. But none of that is totally unexplainable and so big that it would have taken me out of the experience. Some of the exposition is a little vague and some doesn't go anywhere.

The movie has action and violent conflict but they are not the focus. The focus is clearly the experience of the main characters, Neo and Trinity, within a system that tries to control them and their decisions. At no point was my main concern whether Neo or Trinity were about to be hit by a stray bullet. That might make the action scenes less exciting but if the action had been the focus of this new Matrix movie I would have been disappointed.

The Matrix Resurrections feels like a Matrix movie for a new generation, with the story elements of the first two films. i understand that the point of the Matrix itself is to be a cycle but do they have to follow most of the same beats?

i don't dislike the movie, i just thought it would offer more because of the new concepts they introduced but then i took a step back and realized that most of the things they introduced were just a setup for sequels and possibly spin offs. i do want to see more of the Matrix franchise but i felt this was just kind of disappointing, to long and just a little boring and bland. i like this film but i was hoping for more. the acting was pretty bad and the characters from the previous franchise were either underused or just poorly written and the new villains were all bad, but that's just my opinion. i think the franchise should be handed off to new hands to see what new writers and directors can do with it. maybe a new group of creators can bring new life to the franchise.

p.s. the Visual Effects were better than I thought they were going to be and i really want to see more of the new characters because they were the most interesting thing in this film. ↓ point rating ↓

The new characters didn't feel forced and there acting was exceptional. Everything fit together so well in context with the original matrix trilogy, Ani-Matrix, the video games and didn't feel rushed. The matrix nerds like myself will appreciate the way everything was tied together and will definitely identify how much they stayed true to the source universe. IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Expand

It would have been impossible to make a film like this and please the people who hated Reloaded and Revolutions, so Wachowski channels the massive weight of twenty years of discourse into her narrative in a 'meta' form which is at times overbearing but never boring.

Is it amazing? Hell no. Is it good? Kind of. It was a fun watch and Keanu was great, but this had a completely different vibe compared to the original trilogy, which I didn’t mind too much but I can see why a lot of people don’t like it. Much less doomsday and a lot more comical. It really bothers me though that the ending leaves room for more sequels, which at this point would just feel like a cash grab. We got a happy albeit stereotypical ending, so for the love of god just let it end there. It was a nice nostalgia trip but more movies past this would just be beating a dead horse. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So after watching this and thinking about it for a while I am still not sure if it's a movie with a lot of meta pretentiousness in it, or is it pretentiously meta... or is it both?
It was enjoyable enough to watch in the latter half and there are overall some great ideas at play but certainly I spent most of the first half wondering just when the characters were going to go full on do a 4th wall break.
And while the remaining Wachowski can competently deliver a movie, having so many fan service "greatest hits" moments (very much like GB:A) actually makes the movie feel like a tired retread of old ideas in a fan fiction then a new canonical work. Acting overall was pretty good with NPH almost outright stealing the movie. The "twist" was predictable given the source and undermines the previous movies somewhat. Overall this falls somewhere between returns and revolutions so the 3rd best in the franchise.

If we are looking for positives, there are decent special effects and we learn a tiny bit more about the machine world and their motivations. That’s about where it ends. Even the first point about the special effects is countered by the fact that the effects in the first Matrix were pretty revolutionary when it came out, but now in 2021 there is really nothing special and in particular the characters look very silly when they are flying. Next, the endless pointless shooting and fighting scenes in this movie really highlight a fundamental issue with this entire story, which is that it makes no sense for the humans and machines to be fighting in this way. Both the fights themselves and the reason for the fights are severely lacking. There’s are dozens of times in this movie when 10+ guys with automatic weapons are unloading on the good guys from feet away and I’m pretty sure no one got hit by a bullet the entire movie. We are supposed to just accept this because Matrix. As I watched all these nonsensical scenes it really makes you think, why is this even happening. In this future dystopia where machines have enslaved the whole human race, why are they even bothering to punch and shoot each other inside the simulation. It does not appear to be lethal for either side and really just feels pointless and silly. Next, The dialogue was pretty garbage; just lots of cliche throwbacks (“I still know Kung fu” are you kidding me!?) Well I have a lot more thoughts that head into spoiler territory but overall I think this movie was unnecessary and has tarnished the overall quality of the trilogy. I can’t give it a 1 because I made it through the whole movie but damn it was dumb. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm very disappointed. From a fans perspective, the movie is insulting. Not because it tries something new, some ideas aren't even that bad and in the first 15 minutes of the movie I had a bit of hope. But everything execution wise is mediocre at best. Action scenes aren't edited well, you never really know what's going on, there's no sense of a well done choreography here. The superhuman fighting scenes in dark, gritty, rainy places had a whole lot of swag in the first movie. This movie completely lacks that atmosphere. It looks like some weaker netflix production. The acting isn't something to write home about, sometimes even ridiculous. The merovingian carried the second movie, in this movie they made an unfunny joke of this character. Many scenes are just comical, but involuntarily. Music? Meh. New characters? Completely forgettable. And the biggest irony is that 4th wall break in the beginning of the movie, which is a brazen move given what they delivered us with this movie. Don't spend money on this, you're going to be disappointed. Just wait a few months, stream it and be disappointed then. Expand

The first half-hour is almost promising, with them re-framing the previous trilogy in an interesting way, but soon we find out it's essentially an inferior remake masquerading as a sequel. The acting is poor, the script tries to be profound occasionally, but it's running on an empty, spent tank. The fight scenes are janky and stiff, and the CGI is good, but who cares when the fights are so clumsy? There's really nothing here but a steaming pile of WHY DID THIS GET MADE?

And the final scene has the AUDACITY to think they can launch a series of this crap.

I had to see the new Matrix because it's just the Matrix. I liked the trailers quite a bit. Unfortunately, I take it I was fooled and just fell into some sort of illusion that it could be good. I'm totally disappointed. When the movieI had to see the new Matrix because it's just the Matrix. I liked the trailers quite a bit. Unfortunately, I take it I was fooled and just fell into some sort of illusion that it could be good. I'm totally disappointed. When the movie started, for the first 10 minutes or so I was like yeah, this is it. I liked it. It was great. But it didn't take long for it to get bad. Very bad. There was a point where I thought, they've already messed this up and they don't have a chance to fix it. Unfortunately, that feeling stayed with me for the rest of the movie. After about 15 minutes, I was not entertained, not interested in the film, and found the story to be bad. I like the series a lot and consider the trilogy to be something amazing and yes, I like Reloaded and Revolutions a lot too, but this, this really didn't. I didn't like the new The Matrix Resurrections perhaps at all. The only thing that appealed to me here and there was the action because it had good music. After that, though, it immediately disappointed me because it had weird slow-motion stuttering effects in places that movies like that used in the 2000s. Whether this was supposed to be some kind of nostalgia here or something that was supposed to look good, I don't know. The action from the original Matrix, which came out in 1999, seemed much better to me at the same time because it didn't have these slow motion moments as far as I know. Where I have to nitpick is Neo himself. I think he's pretty much useless here. His younger self would have kicked his ass. I get that they were trying to capture the fact that he's aged here and that he's not as good as he once was, but for me he was really rubbish and in a way that I thought it was completely, but utterly unnecessary in the finale to make this sequel. The story is terrible in my opinion and I haven't even mentioned that it tries to somehow connect the previous films and explain some things about them, which usually doesn't work out well and here it turned out I would say downright awful. The action is often worse than in the previous films because Neo isn't what he used to be. Unfortunately, I don't see anything good about this movie except for a few moments with good music. I don't think this should have happened. It spoils the franchise unnecessarily. More franchises have had such an unpleasant sequel, like Terminator, Alien, Predator and so on. Now, sadly, I can confirm for myself that this "money machine" and wringing of a well-known brand was also given to the Matrix. For me, a very bad movie that I recommend avoiding and fans of the franchise should avoid. Overall, it strikes me as a better fan-made movie than a true sequel. Expand

It's written by 2 nobodies who decided to jam-pack this film with cliche action movie tropes, including, matrix zombies(the swarm). It's written to entertain children and teenagers. I mean they took inspiration from games like Call of Duty... I'm not even kidding.

You can tell Wachowski didn't even want to be involved as the film breaks the fourth wall and states it at the beginning.
The new actors are terribly miscast and there's a huge disconnect whenever they are on screen. There's no fear or tension throughout the entire film. It's obvious they are trying to create a franchise like Marvel with their lowest common denominator humor, flashy action pieces, and no substance. And, just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, the ending is basically like a slap to the face to all those who loved the original films. I mean Neo has a force-field... LOL

All I can say is I hope the old actors involved in the original got paid upfront. Any review that scores it above a 6 got paid to do so.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The first act had abhorrent cringe boomer dialogue left and right that never stopped. Do the creators and writers think other studios are made up of obnoxious idiots that always know better than consumers. 4th wall being broken in a Matrix movie is cool if done right, however this movie just touts how good the older ones were and never stops, and calls out other tech companies to ad nauseum. -This movie has little parts that are good but it doesn't feel like "matrix", nothing feels like there is any real stake in anything they are doing. IO (Zion) feels lifeless, you see no other real people besides the military group and the backdrop of the city. Machine city doesn't show the higher machine being from the third movie (like the hierarchy of machines couldn't be bothered to see wtf is going on). Smith and his DSI have this weird mesh of personality where Smith keeps calling Neo "Tom"???and not "Mr.Anderson" helps then dips. Trinity doesn't do anything till the very end and her arc felt rushed and not as hyped as it should've been. Neo feels like he had nothing to do even though he was doing things. -I guess there is going to be more movies, its ok to be modern, but do it with a sense of self, when Bladerunner 2049 came out it wasn't trying to be hip, it filled a hole that the 1980 version left beautifully. This movie is trying to be everything and not succeeding in any way. Expand

What could have been a promising start with fresh characters turns quickly into a frustrating meta-critique on the frustration of the creation of the film before our very eyes.

The next two hours of runtime is tired nostalgia bait, beating a dead horse to the point of necrophilia, and showing off all the weaknesses of the original trilogy.

Any new and interesting ideas are presented to the audience in a single line and then discarded. New characters are introduced as replacement for old characters, and returning characters get swept into the ongoing action porn with no chance for depth or exploration. If you find anything to like about the film, trust it to be discarded almost immediately so that we can spend more time getting lazily **** by questionable reality that has been portrayed and explored better in dozens of films since the release of the original trilogy.

The quality of the film varies from scene to scene, and not just the laughable intercuts to older material. The whole thing ends up feeling like a season of a TV show recut to a feature film. The fight choreography starts great. It was easy to follow the action and the visual language of the characters is distinct. I honestly can't tell if the fights stay interesting visually, because the lack of stakes and consequence make the fights a tiring waste of time in an already overlong film. The wardrobe seeming to lose momentum in terms of vibrancy and distinctness over time doesn't help this.

The Matrix Resurrections wants to keep telling Neo's story. It doesn't want to explore any of the consequences of the original trilogy. It doesn't want to move on and explore the world it has created. It all feels so sad and shallow. I left this film with no new questions, just emptiness.

1) Didn't the authors see what they were doing? When was the script written or when filmed or when editing a film??
2) If they saw the result, then why didn't they try to fix anything during preparation and production?
3) And if they saw what it turns out ... then what happens, why was it to be released to the public at all?

I just go crazy for what I looked. It's just a downfall into cinematic hell.

In this film, everything is done wrong. Hands did not come off the face after the first fifteen minutes until the very end.
How did they manage to do it so badly? Why didn't anyone take the liberty of stopping the process and sending it back for revision? Where they were in a hurry is not clear at all.

Fights? Disgusting.
You did great fights in the first three films. Why couldn't you do the same in this?

Dialogues? Disgusting. The characters are incoherent. They just ... I have no words.

Music? I don't remember her at all. Was she even in this movie?

The characters in the film ... oh my god, I don't understand why you did all this. They just took everything and flushed it down the toilet.

What the hell was the point in all this? Everything in this film is very, very poorly done.
In no case do I recommend watching this. And fans of the trilogy should be doubly careful not to approach this "movie" even a single step.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This film was so utterly bad there were moments I had to look away. Its so cringe worthy at times I was afraid that whatever pestilence has been poured into this thing might transmit from the screen into my soul. Im at a loss for words, its simultaneously a tragedy and a crime against what was a brilliant original. When Neo is cowering like an old man on Trinity’s bike, sticking out his hand to do that shockwave like a stiff magneto with Alzheimer’s I lost it. This is insanely bad. Its beyond comprehension. He just spams that shockwave over and over and it looks atrocious. You'll see, it's possibly the worst climatic scene ever, it's shocking.

Anyone who enjoys this is probably a tad simple, and that's OK. But if you have a normal iQ, are relatively stable mentally, then this will be a waste of your time and money.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This really does feel like a Netflix or otherwise made for TV adaptation, nothing ever feels truly cinematic. Morpheus and Smith never feel like their original characters so why not just have them BE new characters? We know Neo wants to get Trinity back but I couldn't tell you what the motives really are for any other character doing what they do in the story. The constant flashbacks seem cheap and none of the action stands out. What I will say is I don't really have a problem with most of the main cast. Acting wasn't the problem, but a lot of other stuff certainly was. If it weren't for that I'd almost say it was as bad as WB's other retread cashgrab Space Jam 2 earlier this year. The whole 'meta' aspect of both movies comes across like narcissism by WB. Expand

I don't mind reboots, it would of been fine though the story is just so bad. I don't mind if Neo isn't the main character but the writing has to be good if not better than the original trilogy. Writers need to get off the cocaine. The movie was getting better as it went on until, It just keeps bashing people over the head for what they believe, sure people excuse it away cause it's just a movie, but then why does a movie have to throw in real life social political BS. I thought the whole idea of the woke agenda was to bring people together but all it does it tear people apart. It takes a jab at conspiracy theorists, and people who like the original trilogy, which to me sorry but even at the base level of just its story is a lot better than this. This movie is OK so to me it's about a 3, bashing the original trilogy yet having to pull from and rely on it shows a weakness in writing. The SJW Matrix is the worst design of the Matrix I have ever witnessed and it's just Cringe, Agent Smith, Cringe, what i think is the new architect which acts as Mr Anderson's/Neos councillor is cringe. None of these people have any originality and are just a compilation of awful aspects to make them seem like an interesting character when they are not. Sadly the whole story winds down to save the woman, just like Mario saving Princess Peach What I do like about the movie is the new technology used and the friendly machines and I wish it could be better than it is but sadly it's just not, it boils down to a typical love story of a man pleading to get his old lover back and it would be OK if it wasn't so generic and overdone. Comparisons to The Last Jedi are far too kind. This is the Star Wars Christmas special of Matrix films.

Another return to another long-dormant franchise. In this one, we see Thomas Anderson (Keanu Reeves) having returned to a normal life and living blissfully unaware within the Matrix as a top-dog video game developer based off of his experiences from the previous films, only to find himself being pulled back into reality to further face his destiny as Neo, as well as past threats and familiar faces, including Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss). I think I speak for just about every fan of the incredible and game-changing first film when I say that both 'Reloaded' and 'Revolutions' left so much to be desired in terms of overall execution, as well as building upon the first and all of the mind-blowing and innovative things it ushered in for the action and sci-fi genres when it was first released back in 1999. So it goes without saying that I approached this new one that's released 18 years after 'Revolutions' with hopeful caution. If it could at least top the last two films for me, then my expectations would be glady met and satisfied, and I'm happy to report that that's exactly the case here with this film! Director Lana Wachowski seemingly knew how difficult of a task it'd be to try and live up to the already perfect first film, and so instead, we're graced with a film here that embraces and celebrates all of the best aspects of it, such as the stunning action choreography and sequences, with just the right amount of nostalgia sprinkled throughout. The action here is as top-notch and entertaining as almost everything we saw in the first film! Furthermore, the inept Jesus/messiah symbolism surrounding Neo is completely done away with that really bogged down the last two installments. Reeves is also in top form here, giving us some of Neo's most epic and even humanistic moments as well. Carrie-Anne Moss is also a welcome return here and stands out in several moments throughout as well! The film even finds room to cleverly poke fun at itself and the franchise's past, becoming very meta in some scenes, especially towards the beginning. Granted, there are some pacing issues here and there, along with a slightly excessive amount of exposition, but all of this is greatly overshadowed by a very ambitious and for the most part expertly-crafted new addition to the franchise that none of us knew was coming or needed for the longest time. Overall, I found it to be a very worthy and greatly entertaining installment that was able to right the wrongs of so many things about the last two films, and is easily what I'd consider to be the next best film in the franchise behind the ever-so-classic and amazing first film! I've found all of the installments to be long-winded exercises in metaphysically oriented intellectual masturbation broken up periodically by stylish action sequences and glitzy special effects. And, regrettably, this latest sequel is mostly more -- a lot more -- of the same, a picture that could have easily (and more accurately) been titled "Another Matrix Movie." What's especially disappointing here is that the film actually starts out with some promise, presenting a narrative in which the picture hints at being a delightful send-up of itself. It also includes some interesting allusions to the lack of meaningful distinctions in contemporary political forces and the public's often-sheep-like responses to the dictates of officialdom. And there's some pleasant humor served up in the supporting performances of Neil Patrick Harris and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. However, despite these fine attributes, this overlong slog runs out of steam quickly, relying on nostalgic flashbacks from the franchise's previous installments and trotting out an increasingly tiring series of explosions, fights and bombastic special effects to carry a story that becomes so convoluted it's hard to imagine it holding anyone's attention (even those who are metaphysically oriented like yours truly). At bottom, there seems to be little to characterize this latest sequel other than it being a vehicle to provide its distributor with yet another cash cow and director Lana Wachowski (sans sibling Lilly) with an opportunity to redeem herself in Hollywood circles (at least at the box office) after several disappointing outings. As a consequence, though, the film fails to deliver much of anything new, fresh or exciting, instead presenting viewers with a release that might have been more aptly called "The Matrix Retreads."
