The original, on its own, was deep in innuendos while groundbreaking in production and direction. In viewing The Matrix(1999) today, many current real world issues and commentary are discussed in great detail, setting this film as a visionary masterpiece. Now, there were two other Matrix films shortly released after the original that diverted from the apparent beaten path laid down by the original - not part of this discussion. Have you ever brought food home from the restaurant that, when originally served tasted immaculate, but just doesn't taste(or look) the same reheated at home - well, The Matrix Resurrections(2021) is such an example. Taking the leftovers of The Matrix(1999), The Matrix Reloaded(2003) and The Matrix Revolutions(2003) from the refrigerator after 20 years, mixing it all into one container then sticking it in the microwave and expecting the same taste and freshness from when it was first prepared.....no, that's not going to happen. The Matrix Resurrections(2021), also known as The Matrix Regurgitations or The Matrix Resuscitations or.....crap is a retelling of the original trilogy adapted for 2021. Gone are the extensional meanings of decades past and in place are the 21st century paint-by-numbers, gone are the groundbreaking special effects and in place is something that could have been produced by a CW Network team. The original concepts of L̶a̶r̶r̶y̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶A̶n̶d̶y̶ ̶ Lana and Lilly fall off the bridge and into the void below within the first 5 minutes of these reheated leftovers. If you have never seen any Matrix films, avoid this major catastrophe and instead discover The Matrix from the beginning, as it was intended to be told. Expand

They just buried the entire trilogy. It is not possible to watch. One gets the feeling that students were filming this film. And, of course, the left-liberal agenda is very often traced.
All hopes for a worthy continuation have been destroyed.

Matrix 1 is a Masterpiece, Matrix 2 is Great, Matrix 3 is Okay and Matrix 4 is a heartless piece of garbage movie that was only made for the purpose of making some $$$. It is even referenced in the movie that the only reason they made thisMatrix 1 is a Masterpiece, Matrix 2 is Great, Matrix 3 is Okay and Matrix 4 is a heartless piece of garbage movie that was only made for the purpose of making some $$$. It is even referenced in the movie that the only reason they made this was to have another sequel to make some cash out if the franchise!!

So why is this movie so f*cking bad? Well first of all the casting is terrible. We did get the Original actors for Neo and Trinity (Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss) BUT we didn't get the original actors for Morpheus and Agent Smith??? Those four characters are the main characters of the franchise and we only got half of the Original actors? Wtf?! It's not like the story is so complex and well thought out that there is a reason that you CAN'T bring the original actors back. Also the original Actors (Hugo Weaving and Laurence Fishburne) seem to still be active on the movie scene so I just don't see any reason to not bring them back at all. Anyway, a sequel without these original actors is already not worthy but dont worry, not only is the casting bad but the Story (and anything else) is also f*cking trash. Basically the Story is this: Neo and Trinity were resurrected by the Machines somehow so that they can trap then into a new version of the Matrix for reasons. Now a random girl who was awakened from the Matrix because she saw Neo once wants to save Neo and Trinity from the Matrix with a random guy who is Morpheus now for no reason (btw Morpheus is now a program that is designed to save the One because the people who made this forgot how the story of The Matrix works) After they manage to give the red pill to Neo by showing him a clip from Matrix 1 they go out to save Trinity BUT for NO REASON AT ALL (and this time I'm serious) Agent Smith is back (not really but we already discussed that) also normal people can be zombies and stand in their way and all that.

The story is bad as you might have realized by now but there are actually a few nice ideas like how in the new version of the Matrix where Neo and Trinity are trapped in, the Matrix franchise exists as a video game franchise made by Neo. Sounds like a fun idea but unfortunately they used this to make as many throwbacks to the previous movies as possible without taking logic into consideration.

Okay, the Casting sucks, the Story sucks but at least the fighting, choreography, effects and action are good right? I mean there are a lot of videogames for example where the story is bad but the gameplay is good. Well, in this moronic movie EVERYTHING is bad. The Fighting and Choreography is not like Matrix at all, they just throw each other on the ground instead of using kung fu with guns like badasses. The effects are most of the time fine but sometimes hilariously bad, there was a simple scene where somebody shot someone and there was just a blood effect that looked like a f*cking gif.

Okay enough of the rant. Basically: Bad Movie, don't watch. But If you want to see for yourself why this movie sucks ass then PLEASE Pirate it. Don't give them your money for such a piece of **** movie. It's not even a movie that is funny because it's so bad, it's just boring and sad...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I actually made an account just so that i can vote and review

TL;DR: this movie shows a style similar to how disney destroyed the star wars franchise -> corporate greed; wokeness and leeching on people's melancholies/old interests.
Objectively it has bad script, bad storytelling, and irrational-crazy plot holes. An abomination!
PROS: Actors are good; soundtrack is good; special effects are good; adds some new and fresh ideas.
CONS: Everything else immaginable (story/plot/lore; script/lines; universe; action scenes; etc) EVERYTHING ELSE is a cesspool! Now for the long version:

For a start, apparently i have to show my colors because the toleant individuals that gave this a 9 or 10 rating are yapping that all the people giving it bad reviews are either haters; bigots; trolls; or didn't understand the movie. (yes, i have read a lot of comments, both pros and cons)

- it's not my 1st Matrix movie (i rewatched the trilogy quite a few times)!
- i am a feminist: from the old movies i appreciated Switch, i LOVED Trinity and from this new movie i appreciate Buggs.
- i am not blind by conservatorism: i appreciate and understand that in 60 years tech can advance and the humans can now easily teleport using different kinds of doorways and can log-out without the need of payphones (tottaly understandable and easy to digest lore change - this is also a movie pro btw!).
- i am objective (these are the pro's of this movie too): truly, it's a very original and fresh approach to the matrix franchise to:
1) bring more sentient robot-machines on the side of humanity (and it's nicely shown)
2) show how humanity is thriving
3) create an alternate way of ressurrecting Neo and the other characters.
4) changing their faces/identities was an awesome idea (speaking of which: we were always prepared by the old trilogy that a character can have a different face: the oracle always had a different image in each movie!).

Now for the snap back to reality:

NO MATTER HOW YOU LOOK AT IT, A MOVIE IS BAD IF:
I) action scenes are spoiled with the camera super zoomed-in and shaking (example: compare Neo fighting exiles from old -vs- new)

II) you are forcing a story into fast-forward mode + no explanations (not even later) + plot holes that are so irrational its insane (eg what happened to the second helicopter @ rooftop ending scene? did it just went for coffee and came back later?)

III) a character has plot armor (i wanted to puke when i saw Buggs not taking a sigle bullet at the begining, when she gets flushed by the agent on that rooftop, and when both agents AND the swat team with automatic guns mag-dump on her from 3 meters away)

iv) you change its soul: WHEN in THREE movies did the old trilogy had a family friendly fist bump moment??? (Seq + stick insect robot fist bump to celebrate a victory) NEVER! Matrix was NEVER similar to guardians of the galaxy; or avengers or star wars (the new trilogy). It NEVER had those useless moments, never needed them. But now it's exactly like them: just a puffy team, made by puffy teammates, doing puffy things. v) last but not least, lore speaking: Trinity and Neo are a thing (which is actually and ironically even reinforced by this movie also) - so, then, WHY dismiss that at one of the peak moments of the couple???
Like seriously, the couple barely survived a huge explosion @ rooftop ending scene, and Trinity instead of going to Neo to check on him, she walked away, not even caring if he's alive or dead, so that she can bask in the beauty of the sunrise.... REALLY??????

People giving this movie anything above 7 just means you are either blinded by love+melancholy+copium; ignorant; or just trying to balance out the zeroes and 1s (action which, btw, just makes just as neanderthalic as the troglodytes who gave it 0,1,2).

CONCLUSION:
BAD MOVIE. An insult to the spirit and lore of the movie/universe.
Congratulations, you washed another franchise and made it more consumer friendly.

In 'resurrection' everything is pretty much a standard movie - it's 'face value' from beginning to end. In the great final scene a 'voice over' narrator is telling you, what is going on while it happens - tryi ng to fit a ‘this is how we are going to rob the bank’ plotting in to the mix. 'Resurrection' introduces an ironic self-disclosure twist trying to make fun of the taoist philosophy the the original one - it gives you an easy laugh but does not bring anything to the table.
Matrix 4 is unfortunately a missed opportunity for us to go deeper into the rabbit hole. - big missed opportunity.

By far the best sequel to the original Matrix. The last two felt like what the movie studios wanted, this one feels like the red pill that the Wachowskis want you to take again.
I can understand that the break from the trilogies aesthetic and action will be jarring to many, but if that is all you come into this movie expecting then you are missing the point, the mental stimulation it intends to give and the enjoyment to be had.

The briefI REALLY wanted to like this movie -- The Matrix is one of my all-time fave movies -- but Resurrections is ham-fisted and heavy-handed with poor direction, editing, cinematography, and sound design. It feels surprisingly amateurish. The brief flashbacks of the original Matrix are a literal reminder of how much better that movie was than this. "Resurrections" is the perfect word to use in the title because rather than an installment that propels the story forward, it's a rehash that simultaneously relies on fans' knowledge of the previous films while borrowing heavily from them. The whole thing feels like low-budget fan fiction.

There are too many ancillary characters who aren't fleshed out. Most of them aren't given more than a handful of lines. This neither fleshes out their character nor propels the story (such as it is) forward. Oh, and the story... I saw another reviewer say that if you don't like this movie, it's because you're not intelligent enough to understand it. Another possibility is that if you think everyone else is too dumb to understand it, maybe you're just too dumb to realize how simplistic and two-dimensional the story is. What we get here is just a 2021 version of "tech is bad" and "what's reality?" It's really not hard to understand what Lana W. is saying/asking. Unfortunately, the movie does nothing to truly explore those concepts; it just gives us lazily regurgitated Matrix tropes. Despite its 2.5-hour length, it has very little to say, and despite my love for the Neo-Trinity story, their relationship was not moved forward in any way.

One big complaint is that Carrie Ann Moss is criminally underused here. She's the best actor of the franchise, IMO, yet we hardly see her. And what's really unfortunate is that when she's pulled into the climax of the story, her character inexplicably changes in ways that make no sense at all given everything that led up to those changes. So, she's underused AND *mis*used.

Overall, Resurrections is a big disappointment for this Matrix fan, and if you're someone who hasn't seen the original trilogy, Resurrections will leave you befuddled and wishing you had that 2.5 hours of your life back. I'm sad to say that while it's not a train wreck, it's just not worth your time.

This Christmas, 22 years later, the franchise has been resurrected from the John wick depths of movies in the form of The Matrix Resurrections. Of course, we have Keanu Reeves bringing back his classic role of Neo trying to break free of the matrix once again. Let's see how this 4th installment went.

Now, I know plot wise from the third movie you're thinking... Didn't white Jesus die in the last movie? The answer is literally that answer; and so, the action sequences are the only reason to watch this movie. The plot as a whole is whack, uncreative and a waste of time and money. What I will say is that they should've combined the third movie and this film because that might have been a better use of entertainment time. This movie felt better as a continuation, ending and hope-for-a-future sequel than third installment of the original Matrix Trilogy, which to me confirms that they wasted time with The Matrix Revolutions. The problem is this movie's plot feels like a complete retread. It almost feels like The Matrix re-do me-too movement. As a whole there's nothing wrong with the plot per se, but following a movie like The Matrix which was so iconic and game changing, the payoff with Resurrections just feels weak. If you're looking for a game changer, this isn't the one.

Now, as far as action goes, the movie is semi-entertaining, particularly as a streaming option. Why semi you ask? Well, a lot of the action was repetitive and again not as cool as the original film or a lot of new violent films out now. I blame you Johnny-Two-Toes-Wick. I guess what it really comes down to is that the movie has good elements but it's just not as cool as you want it to be. It's above average in execution but everything else is just average.

Unfortunately, The Matrix Resurrections just doesn't live up to the hype of the original Matrix. After 18 years of waiting, you just want a bit more. The movie was actually very crisp and looked very good, but the storyline was just boring and uncreative. If you're looking for some nostalgia and good action, this is definitely the flick to catch on a streaming service but no need to rush to the theater. Grab the matinee for the theater (or not because omicron is crazy) and a big box for the hell of it on HBO Max (I mean it's free you can't not watch it).

Is a good movie, but cannot surpass the 3 classic movies, the explanation of how was resurrected the main characters, can be acceptable in the story, but could be better, that they made with morfeo was unforgiven.

As a movie I give it a 3 because it's simply poorly structured, has very little focus on the plot and a really bad ending that just bates us into a sequel. The plot is also pretty weak and is similar to a kid's fairy tale.

I'd give this a 0 as a matrix movie if I'd feel normal, but it's Christmas and I can't do that now. It has nothing to do with the matrix, only effects like the fighting and stuff like that. Of course you have good actors from previous matrix movies in here, but the movie is pretty bad. The actors did a great job, but the director was doing a really lousy job and just went for more feel than actual structure. Really bad movie with no clear antagonist, unclear ending and weak plot. Don't go to the cinema to see this like I did, you're just gonna leave disappointed.

This was the third worst movie I've ever seen. Only Eraserhead and wonderwoman 1984 are lower on my list.

As is common in today's movies, political correctness, leftist propaganda, and perversion are promoted at the expense of plot. When you have no moral foundation, you have nothing to fight for. As a result the film descends into meaningless nihilism.

There is no real motivation for the protagonist, outside of a vague desire for a woman he doesn't know and who's already married and has children. That fact simply doesn't matter to the writers. The family can and should be tossed aside to satisfy your cravings.

The antagonist also has no motivation. There is no particular reason to enslave neo outside of him being a better battery. Various useless conflicts are engineered to try to recreate the 1999 action movie, but actually fail and are boring by comparison.

The most cringe-worthy moments are when the movie breaks the 4th wall and embeds the original matrix movie as a "game" within the current movie. It's a horrible plot device that cheapens the whole franchise.

Hopefully this movie will die a quick death. They spent millions on poorly implemented special effects and completely ignored any sort of plot. Find good writers before you waste your money on effects. Meanwhile movie viewers can avoid wasting money on this mess.

If you have loved original Matrix then there is no chance this will be anything that you can remotely enjoy. The only thing this has to do with it is the Title and the main 2 characters... well, whatever is left of them. This is a perfect representation of what political correctness and LGBTQrts+ can do with a movie. In my life I never walked out of the cinema. I'm 40 now and I just had my virgin walkout. I managed to survave maybe 5 minutes of this trash. You may wonder... but how is it possible you are reviewing it... well, my friend paid for the movie so he decided to watch this pile of jokes. He admitted that he almost walked out 3 times. He talked about the movie for 45 minutes, not for the good reasons. The story is utter garbage and doesn't make sense. He admitted that he made a mistake for staying and watching it... he would gladly pay the money again to be able to forget about the movie. I managed to get it off the net to confirm. I skipped through it once again and what I can say, this is an offence to the original Matrix. I'm extremely polite Keanu Reeves agreed to play in this I guess there was a closure somewhere in his contract and he had no choice, no other reason to explain this. Expand

This goal seems to be much more important that staying true to fans, a series, and even money — as I doubt this film will do well at the box office and highly doubt two additional movies will be made from this content. From the very beginning of the movie, we see whole sequences that simply re-hashes of the original film, only with slight alterations to make way for the new characters. B-roll from the original trilogy is intercut extensively through the whole movie to remind us these scenes and sequences are supposed to be familiar. But these scenes are not nearly as well done or enjoyable as they were the first time and beg the question: were there no new ideas? Just like in the new Star War franchise, we see a new cast of characters that seem far too young and fresh faced to be believable in their roles. They have about the “grit” of armchair gamers sitting in a cyber cafe — not the charisma and gravitas of Lawrence Fishburne as Morpheus in the original films, who you believe has fought his whole life in an underground war against the machines. Unfortunately, even Keanu Reeves delivers a tired performance — with no fire of his previous character (which is already understated due to Keanu’s style as an actor) I’m a big fan of Keanu Reeves and I really came to see this movie for him, and was sad to see such a lack of enthusiasm or development of Neo. Story-wise, we pick up with Neo (as Thomas Anderson, his Matrix-world, blue-pill personality) as a game designer who is internationally known — get this — for his game franchise “The Matrix.” Yes, the entire first 3 movies in their entirety and exactness, exist within this world as a video game that Thomas Anderson wrote. He thinks he wrote it all from his imagination (stay with me) but they are actually repressed memories of his previous life as the real Neo. It’s a bit hard to follow, especially because it sometimes feels like this is a movie about Keanu Reeves as an actor, famous for the Matrix, and not a reprisal of his role in a new trilogy. What I found ironic is that Thomas Anderson’s company is working on a new game trilogy, a sequel to the Matrix, and we see scenes of his creative team talking about what would be needed in a sequel to have the same impact on the world that the original Matrix had (funny). They bring up ideas like “challenging people’s perception of reality” and “iconic action sequences” — all true, and clearly meant to communicate to the audience what they want to add to this movie. Except, none of those elements are actually in the movie. They completely missed the boat. Once the slightly confusing, winks to the audience and original trilogy are over and we get to the “red pill moment” of our main character the film completely collapses as a compelling story or having any sense of high stakes or consequences for failure. They make Neo and Trinity’s romance from the original trilogy the central theme and motivation of Neo, which was probably the weakest narrative of even the original movies. It’s even more lazy this time around. If you’re at least hoping for some innovative action sequences or a re-imagining of “bullet time” I have more bad news — nothing but gimmicks and nothing memorable. The final action sequence at the end is downright laughable at it’s total absurdity. I wish that I could say even one good thing about this movie, as I had every hope of enjoying it even as mostly mindless entertainment. But I honestly cannot think of one redeeming quality as either an action movie, an addition to a franchise, or even as a hard-core Keanu Reeves fan. Skip this one to send a message to Hollywood that we won’t accept such lazy, worthless sequels. I promise, you will miss nothing here even if you are a huge fan of the series. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. People will say 'oh but enjoyment is subjective', and of course it is. I completely understand that people can sit through something awful, be unaware that it's awful, and then enjoy it, and good for them. But, just because you think something is good, does not make it so. I for one, absolutely **** hated this film. I grew up watching the trilogy, people bash the second and third instalment but at the age of thirteen, the scene in The Matrix Reloaded where Neo fights off a hundred-or-so Smith clones to the 'Burly Brawl' track, is one of my favourite scenes in cinema, to date. The problem with the people enjoying this film, the same crowd who sung the praises of the absolute turd that was The Rise of Skywalker, spout things like 'but you got to see Neo and Trinity on screen again'. You do realise it's possible for you to see those characters on screen, AND for the film to be excellent? The two aren't mutually exclusive?

'Oh how was the birthday party?'

'Oh well the house burned to the ground but there was cake at least'. Jesus christ people. Have some kind of even moderate expectation in an art form worth BILLIONS of dollars. Fans like myself have been waiting some seventeen years for this sequel. So, when you spew absolute crap like 'Oh but the director didn't want to even make a sequel' or 'it advances the story of the trilogy, think about this; it doesn't. The film starts by telling us word for word, that the original three films weren't actually of any significance, they were video games. So, instant recognition for the source material completely pissed up the wall. 'Our parent company Warner Brothers... they want another sequel'

'What!?'

That's a line in the actual bloody film! How much adoration do you feel a director deserves, when they rock up to start filming and their attitude is 'Hmph, I don't like the fact that I'm being made to do this so I'm going to steamroll it'. Let me ask you this; how many sequels have you seen, where actual footage from previous chapters is used over and over again in the new one? No? The director makes you sit through a film, which rehashes scenes you've seen before (Neo fighting Morpheus in the Dojo was an insult and ten times worse than what it was 22 years ago) - THEN shows the original footage alongside it. So you're seeing the same scenes, twice over. What about the establishment of characters? Well, Neo and Trinity are back (which seems to be the ONLY positive anyone can find) but Morpheus and Agent Smith, arguably two of the most iconic hero and villains respectively, nowhere to be seen. Is their absence neatly written so that it at least makes sense? Nope. Morpheus is now a parody of the character he helped establish, and Hugo Weaving has been replaced by... exactly. There's also no lightning fast choreography which was such a huge part and appeal of the original trilogy, camerawork is janky and relies on rapid shot-changes to distract you from the fact that nothing worth seeing is even happening, and the acting is absolutely abysmal. Did you want a sequel which expanded on the franchise, or did you want a sequel which mocks the originals, cancels them out as 'Oh that stuff didn't actually happen', and spend most of the runtime showing you scenes you've seen before, albeit worse? The escape scene with Trinity, red pill/blue pill, the Dojo, Neo discovering 'none of this is real', it was all in the first film.

Oh but because I thought this film was **** I didn't understand it, or I'm 'transphobic' because Lana Wachowski is now a woman. Nope, it's just a horrible film and I could've written something better quite comfortably myself.

Especially in the beginning the movie entertains some interesting ideas. Being incredibly self-aware and meta the movie reflects on the legacy of the Matrix movies and ponders where a sequel should go next.
The initial premise is also interesting: What if the Matrix was just a piece of fiction designed by a mentally ill game dev? Once again the movie makes us doubt what is real and what is fake. And in those moments I think Matrix Ressurections really shines.
However, especially in the second half it all falls apart and just seems like mediocre nostalgia bait. There is little agency, there are way too many pointless cameos and callbacks to the previous movies and ultimately the movie doesn't seem to have much to say after the initial points it raises in the first hour of its runtime

It's a damn shame that they couldn't take the initial premise and take it into a new exciting direction rather than just rehashing the old stuff.
The potential was there. I think a lot of the new characters were actually fairly likeable (e.g. Bugs or the Psychiatrist) but ultimately they get sidelined so that we can see an aging Neo and Trinity in action again (by the way, the action is also not as great as the previous movies either).

All in all a huge letdown. There are some highs but also lots of lows. I think it's a bit better than Matrix Revolutions but definitely worse than the original or even Matrix Reloaded

Keanu and Carrie-Anne Moss on screen together are the high-points of the film -- their chemistry is fantastic. Carrie-Anne in particular displays easily the best acting in the film and also does look great when she does eventually get 12 seconds of combat to perform on screen. But everything else about the film is very disappointing or irritating. The no-name new cast of characters that I could not tell you any of the names of, that fan over Neo and his legend feel cringe-worthy and embarrassing to the other characters in the film. The legend worship in general feels like it cheapens the plight of the characters of the original trilogy as they all have to sit there and hear from bland new characters how cool they are. The choice to have Agent Smith return but not be played by Hugo Weaving puts Jonathon Groff in the unfortunate position of doing a bad impression of a legendary character instead of being left to deliver a new character to life.

Most importantly though, this movie is simply dull: there are no cool kung-fu scenes the originals were known for, the cinematography is bland, the majority of the cast is forgettable, Niobe returning 60 years older looks awful in her aged-up makeup and delivers a distractingly poor performance and there's a LOT of exposition. At one point Neil Patrick Harris' character monologues in front of a struggling Neo for what must've been over 5 full minutes. Perhaps the poorest decision in the film is the choice to make Morpheus' death (an event that happened off-screen) cannon. Not only does it mean we do not get to see Lawerence Fishburne reprise his most legendary role, Lana chose to write in a person who is literally tasked to impersonate Morpheus (no that's not a joke). A guy shows up, says "I'm Morpheus" and then just tries his best to act like this character for the whole film. Without any of the experience or characters building that made that man who he was. In fact, his ineptitude is kind of played for laughs at the beginning. I would've expected Neo to be pissed off (once he gets all his faculties back together) that someone would just choose to impersonate one of the most important men in his life, but he feels extremely passive throughout the film -- you'd think Neo would have something to say about the world around him after all these years but apparently not.

So yeah, I like to be positive but I was very, VERY disappointed.

Do not let that crazy director touch anything ever again or it will be turned into hot steaming piles of **** too. So the Matrix resurrected, great, now it has become undead, a zombie franchise. If this is the end of cinema then just let it die gracefully. Stop the cinecrophilia.

And somehow the CGI has gotten worse since 1999.

Suffers from Hollywood corporate wokeness as well, a clear reflection of the director's personal issues and warped view of the world. The only 2 white male characters are villains played by gay actors, and somehow the machines are misogynistic; fighting them is unsubtly fighting the patriarchy. Lines like "you women used to be so much easier to control." Just garbage.

The cover song of Rage Against The Machine during the end credits was a perfect summation of the movie. I've never jumped for the remote before to stop a song from playing during end credits. This sounded like the director's daughter did a cover on a USB microphone and emailed it in.

You shouldn't have done that! Watching this movie was the worst thing that hsppened to me in 2021. I am a huge fan of the original trilogy. This one is pathetic pointless episode of a TV show that wouldn't get the second season.

I was following Jones before he made it on youtube.... saw the movie... and it is not the greatest movie of all time... but can't really understand the hate is getting.... it continues the story, it explains what happened with Zion, morfeus and the the old matrix, explains what happen with the Robots that accepted the peace with the humans, explains how the humans evolved in the 60 yeas that past... it explains why this Chosen one was so special and what made him special...something that was very well explore since matrix one and his connection with trinity... introduces this cool concepts of a matrix within the matrix, AI machines factions, Smith being rebooted into a new body and being awaken by anderson, the new matrix being one of complacency and control with Social media and NPC real NPC people walking among real humans... the concept of humans being put into stress producing more energy ...right away you see that the new matrix is identical to our world...it even hat Covid ....all the catastrophes the Annalist could dreamed to create stress and produce more power out of humans....contrary to what I heard from a lot of sites this has very little trinity... why It took so long for Neo to wake up...he was 60 years on the Matrix...how trinity got her powers so fast....60 years in the matrix the moment she regain consciousness was the same as Smith...why Neo took so long...maybe it was all those blue pills he was taking.....using the slow motion and rewind against Neo himself...shows how the Matrix even adapted to people like Neo...they even retired the agents since they had the NPCs...almost like we have those raging NPC mobs ready to take orders from social media.....I don't know if it is this super divided times we are living now...but the movie does not deserve the what it is getting... like this is more true to the source material, than the new Ghostbusters movie...like come on guys yeah the Fembusters was the worst spin on a classic...right there with the last star wars trilogy...but having kids ghostbusters, it was really not that good.... I know some took it as..." we better get behind this one or the Fembusters will win the argument"... but it was not that good ...a 10 compare to the fembusters ...but not a jewel... and this movie is definitely not the bad movie they are making out to be. ...I will give this one a 7/10. After watching it twice to give it a fair shake because the first film is nearly perfect, it only boggles the mind more how this film was greenlit. The story does not hold together and also maliciously retcons the previous films openly through actions and endless tedious pretentious exposition. And, it is so convoluted and half-realized that I don't think either the actors or the director truly understood or believed in what they were doing, as though they hadn't rehearsed or honed and edited the script at all beforehand to boil it down to its essence and make a tight script the way the first Matrix was.

There was some sensible commentary about how wokeness and feelings run the Matrix as defined by the new bad guy. This is true, but then the film insists on also being woke. I like the love 'twist' at the end, but it was completely unearned and nonsensical in its execution. This script was extremely dense and needed a year of honing; the verbal exposition walls were insurmountable and infinite...SHOW DON'T TELL.

Ultimately, his was a poorly written Rick-And-Morty/Community hyper-meta deconstruction of the original material with the specific intent of then pouring gasoline on it and setting it on fire for some reason. It was like they were trying to tell their fans that they were somehow wrong for liking the original film multiple times throughout the movie.

I don't blame Keanu or Carrie Ann for doing this favor for their friend to repay his previous kindness and success to them, but they truly should have questioned him more and forced him into a rewrite mode with someone who understands the philosophy and the human condition better because Lana has truly lost the plot, or just lost any sense of reality.

And the CGI and action scenes were fairly mediocre, especially the slow-motion which seemed as though it was done as cheaply as possible for no reason. The more you think about this film, the more you'll dislike it.

So sad to see yet another great franchise be dismantled yet again to pave the way for the dysfunctional dystopia that Hollywood now envisions for the world.

The matrix resurrection’s started fairly slow, however a lot of interesting ideas that were used. Loved seeing familiar faces, however I do wish there could have been more. The Mr Smith character was wrong on so many levels and I just hope when they make the next one, which seems likely, they take this and so much more criticism and make the next one a lot better than this. Overall, it was quite good and fun to watch, although nothing compared to the first two. Expand

The CATRIX would have been way better than this POS.

I knew this was crap going in, but even the visuals aren't that great. The original in every sense was 1000x better in every frame than this rehash.

Wow how this ever got green lit is amazing!

When I heard that they were making a 4th Matrix movie, I was baffled. The Matrix Revolution (2003) ended fine even if the movie itself was a mixed bag. The only thing that gave me hope was that one of the directors from the original MatrixWhen I heard that they were making a 4th Matrix movie, I was baffled. The Matrix Revolution (2003) ended fine even if the movie itself was a mixed bag. The only thing that gave me hope was that one of the directors from the original Matrix trilogy was returning. The premise is "To find out if his reality is a physical or mental construct, Mr. Anderson, aka Neo, will have to choose to follow the white rabbit once more. If he's learned anything, it's that choice, while an illusion, is still the only way out of -- or into -- the Matrix. Neo already knows what he has to do, but what he doesn't yet know is that the Matrix is stronger, more secure and far more dangerous than ever before". So should it have been resurrected or stay shut down?

One of the things I liked in this movie was the ideas that were explored. In the first act of the movie, it's revealed that Thomas (Keanu Reeves) created a very popular trilogy of games; The Matrix Trilogy. It then becomes incredibly meta and self-aware which was oddly enjoyable. The film also explores some things that have changed since The Matrix Revolution (2003). A lot of these were very interesting and I am glad that it didn't feel like nothing came of Neo and Trinity's sacrifice. The world of the Matrix has changed and the "real life" world has also changed. The changes for both were no doubt very compelling to watch. Keanu and Carrie return as Neo and Trinity respectively. It was great to see them both and I find the chemistry between the two to still be there. Out of the new characters, I love Jessica Henwick who plays Bugs. She is the cool rebellious character who would break the rules for the right thing. I also think Yahya Abdul-Mateen II who plays the new Morpheus is also great in the role. He does a good job of giving off a similar vibe to that of Laurence Fishburne, the original Morpheus. However, this new Morpheus feels so inconsequential to the story that I wondered why they even bothered having Morpheus in the film. Likewise, Jonathan Groff plays the new Smith and I just don't understand why. Like the new Morpheus, the new Smith is also very inconsequential to the story and just feels like he is just kind of there for nostalgia bait. Unlike Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jonathan does not feel like Hugo Weaving, the original Smith. So it is very jarring when he is on screen and is spouting lines like he is supposed to be Smith when it does not feel like it whatsoever. Both of these two could've just been entirely new characters. It also annoys me that the director didn't just bring back both Laurence and Hugo if they were planning on bringing both their characters back. Laurence and Hugo, to me, are both also important people to the Matrix franchise. The story didn't work well for me either. The first act is being self-aware about how studios love milking franchises and not doing anything bold with it. Yet this film does the exact thing it is trying to criticize. After the first act, it becomes a very generic story about saving the girl and stopping the bad guy which is disappointing. The first act also retreads a lot of the same beat for beat stuff that was in the first Matrix film. The main character notices things are off, he then meets a person who convinces him the world is fake, the mirror sequence, the red pill and blue pill stuff, the learning Kung Fu sequence. It is also felt odd having to hear the characters explain the concept of the Matrix again even though this is the 4th entry and most people watching this would already know that. The movie also has way too much exposition and people explaining things. There are moments where I felt like I was being bombarded with way too much information. Sometimes it feels like it would be better to show and not tell but this film does a lot of telling.

Another aspect that made the Matrix trilogy stand out was the iconic action sequences. However, they are incredibly boring in this film. The hand-to-hand fight scenes are overly edited with quick cuts that made it irritating to watch. There are no cool long shots like in the original Matrix trilogy. The choreography is just not that great and it feels weak. What makes it worse is that a lot of the action scenes just has Neo use some kind of force push power which screams lazy. The visuals and music score are fine but they do lack impact and are not memorable either. The film also includes a lot of flashbacks and footage from the older Matrix movies and I find it a little annoying. It feels like they were trying to beat it into the audiences head "remember this!".

In the end, I came out of this thinking that they shouldn't have made the 4th film. It did not feel like a story that was worth telling. This film is just pandering towards peoples nostalgia and it does not do a good job at it either. I don't know if this is a start of a new Matrix trilogy but if it is, I am not very optimistic about this new direction.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just created this account to show my disapproval for the cash grabbing **** show that is called The Matrix: Resurrection. Philosophical added value: 0, Memorable action scenes: 0, logical and enticing plot: 0, inspiration less humor: 0, Memorable actors (besides Keanu and Carrie-Anne), 0, woke level: over 9000. I see so many reviews from 'Hollywood sponsored 'reviewers defending this movie. Don't mind these people. Every matrix-respecting fan wouldn't rate this sequel high. This is unfortunately nothing more than a cash grab with 0 added value. The other two sequels were a 10/10 compared to matrix resurrection. Take it from someone who has written a thesis on the matrix.

I give this movie a 2 for effort.
