The matrix resurrections is another example with that is wrong with the movie experience today. It relies heavily on destroying an already existing franchise to earn a few easy and quick bucks.

New morpheus captivated me, agent Smith with a reframe of purpose, analyst, and of course, in addition to Neo's life the new characters. Metalanguage, criticism of consumerism these days... Nothing here is Reboot / remake. The film makes it very clear that it is a sequel. Neo's trigger has always been to do what he had to do, because beyond the wars, Trinity has always been his focus. It's not forced, there really is a chemistry. Now if you don't buy that, really, the movie isn't for you. Please don't try to compare with the first one, that's not what it's about. To the naive people who were expecting something like the first one, I'm sorry, but like everything else in life, the world has evolved... Let the next one come... Expand

same old or something new?

The Matrix Resurrections feels like a Matrix movie for a new generation, with the story elements of the first two films. i understand that the point of the Matrix itself is to be a cycle but do they have to follow most of the same beats?

i don't dislike the movie, i just thought it would offer more because of the new concepts they introduced but then i took a step back and realized that most of the things they introduced were just a setup for sequels and possibly spin offs. i do want to see more of the Matrix franchise but i felt this was just kind of disappointing, to long and just a little boring and bland.

i like this film but i was hoping for more. the acting was pretty bad and the characters from the previous franchise were either underused or just poorly written and the new villains were all bad, but that's just my opinion. i think the franchise should be handed off to new hands to see what new writers and directors can do with it. maybe a new group of creators can bring new life to the franchise.

p.s. the Visual Effects were better than I thought they were going to be and i really want to see more of the new characters because they were the most interesting thing in this film.

I heard that the producers were forced to make this movie, and you can tell. It is lugubrious (aka, slow, dull, and uninspired). What an awful way to spend Christmas afternoon!

When it was announced that another sequel is coming, I was mostly indifferent about it because that is just Hollywood now, anything can be brought back. When the first full trailer dropped for The Matrix Resurrections, it piqued my interest a bit but I didn't get hyped or had high hopes even if some of the original cast is returning as well as one of the creators i.e Lana Wachowski because, in this day and age, it is more likely to be a letdown. And as it turns out, that was precisely the case. This is, without a doubt, the worst movie in the franchise. BUT I was pleasantly surprised that after seeing the negative reception from a lot of people it wasn't an outright terrible experience for me and I ended up enjoying several parts of it even if I wouldn't call the movie good but rather a middling to above-average experience owing to my predisposition and fanboy bias towards this world.

Returning to the world of The Matrix after more than 20 years certainly carried a hefty dose of nostalgia and it was plainly enjoyable simply being thrust back into that realm. Seeing Keanu Reeves as Neo again lit up the fan in me. Having to deal with the matrix again and retreading events from the first one, despite being an obvious nostalgia bait, was entertaining especially when the movie was self-aware about it and had a meta-narrative going on. In fact, the time spent in the matrix during the first half was probably my favourite, especially when you view it from the machines or The Analyst's POV. It would have been wonderful to have Laurence Fishburn and Hugo Weaving reprising their roles but the replacement for Morpheus, Yahya Adul-Mateen II, wasn't bad. Felt like a hip version of Morpheus. Can't say the same for the new Agent Smith but he did bring some unintentional hilarity, so there's that. In fact, there was a lot of comedy relative to the previous parts, both intentional and unintentional. Some of it worked, a lot of it didn't with some scenes being pure cringe as was the case with a certain cameo.

You get a new crew of characters but apart from Jessica Henwick's character Bugs, none of them were interesting or had any proper presence. The only connection I felt was that several of the actors were from Sense8, a series I happen to like. The performances were fine, including Neil Patrick Harris and Carrie-Anne Moss returning as Trinity. The second half of the movie deals more with the real world and at first, I was enjoying seeing how things have developed after Revolutions. There were intriguing tidbits and scarce info dumps as well as developments which I liked and I was wishing the movie would explore more but it was busy rushing on with its own clunky main plot. Maybe they are saving it for further sequels which I'm not sure they'll even get a greenlit on. To make matters worse, the movie, regrettably, leaned too heavily on the nostalgia baiting and dangling keychains instead of balancing it out. It was spread out throughout the runtime with the most egregious one being flashbacks of scenes from the previous movies which acted as a constant reminder that while you're back in this world, it's nowhere near as well-executed, a self-inflicted detrimental element. The element that actually disappointed me the most was the audiovisual experience, something I expected we would at least get in a strong manner even if all else fails. The action, while being fine-ish for a modern Hollywood big-budget movie, was way too poorly executed in comparison to the previous films. The trilogy was known for its Martial Arts and Gun action and you hardly get anything of the former while a flimsy toned down version of the latter with stormtrooper aim dialled up the highest level as if the operator has hacked the matrix and is purposely making the bad guys miss every shot. The biggest sin was having the now John Wick at your disposal and not giving him a gun throughout the movie or having any scene with Neo going all out and instead relegating him mostly to force push and pull. There was also no real tension or actual danger/threat in the movie. All in all, this was a clunky and messily executed amalgamation of some cool ideas and concepts, new and old, and a trip down memory lane which kept it from diving into the abyss further propelled a bit by my inner fan bias of this world. By no means a good movie and after pondering upon it for a while, I can certainly see where the hate is coming from. If you're a massive fan of the trilogy, you might enjoy it but if you only like/love the first one and didn't enjoy the sequels, chances are this won't bring your mind around. And if I were to rate it, I'd give it a 6/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I get there are some differences between the first movies but as Smith says in the last movie "I know you said the story was over for you, but that's the thing about stories. They never really end, do they? We are still telling the same stories we've always told, just with different names, different faces and I have to say I'm kind of excited. After all these years, to be going back to where it all started. Back to the Matrix." I think what people need to see that things were never gonna be the same after the first movie. People were never gonna be happy with the following movies. Making a sequel doesn't mean **** on the legacy of the trilogy. I felt great going back to the matrix and I don't understand the hate. The movie still made me ask wtf is going on at times, just like the trilogy. I just feel like people nowadays complain and cry like babies when they don't get what they want. Expand

I’m so sorry but this was one one the worst movies I’ve watched in a decade. I was planning to watch it again, in hopes of understanding it, but it is just not a film that is exciting to watch a second viewing. There were moments of exquisite cinematography but the story just isn’t interesting. I had to read a full explanation of the film via Google. The entire segment about his video game profession is way too long and pointless and wastes time when focus on the main story arc (ie what the heck just happened in the first 10-15min of the film) could have been used to explain the film better. One component of the film that truly resonated with me was the character Bugs - she was absolutely wonderful in her performance and role. Wish we had her involved more throughout the film. Overall, I’m so sorry, truly hoped for the best with this instalment. Expand

I've seen it a couple of times now, I really don't understand where all these bad reviews are coming from...

If you went to the theatre expecting another Matrix (the original), then you had unrealistic expectations, as no movie from this franchise will ever equal or surpass the original. And so to give this movie a bad score based on that unfounded disappointment, seems rather unfair to me.

I liked the updated Matrix. I was glad I found out what happened to Neo and Trinity after the end of Revolutions. I'm also quite happy with how the movie ended. The new architect was spot on (remember how much **** everyone gave the old architect?). Smith's storyline could have received some more screentime. The way the Merovingian was treated would be my only critique of this movie, as it was quite over the top, to the point it was cringy...

I hope everyone gives this movie a second chance, and finds it worth their time to review their initial reviews.

The story focusing on Neo and Trinity is a great one. It really pulled on the feels at times. I know this movie has been trashed by people and I will say that if you are looking for mindless gun violence then this is not the film for you. It does contain spectacular action sequences and they are a joy to watch. But it’s the story and deeper meaning of things that win out here, just as in the originals. The movie feels like a genuine continuation of the series. He new characters are great as well. I liked all of them and they all really have a positive impact on the film. There’s plenty of discussion about their situations, but this franchise is more about visuals and this one delivers. Director Lana Wachowski has masterfully created dazzling worlds and cool effects, all gorgeously framed and lit. Even though the dialogue sometimes drags, the performances are engaging. To top it off are the incredible action scenes; wild fights and insane stunts, all with breathless editing. Fans will appreciate the continual showdown between the realities, but everyone can enjoy the cinematic eye candy. As a result, it really needs to be seen on the big screen for full effect. Where to start: The choreography was nowhere near the same level as the previous installments. It looked like a high school produced art project. The film doesn't take itself seriously at all and it often times pokes fun and takes stabs at itself. What the heck, this isn't what a matrix movie should be like.

They replaced both Agent smith and Morpheus with new actors that doesn't act like them at all - Morpheus acts like a jester while agent Smith looks like a ivy league tennis player.....Reeves' acting is so wooden here and both him and Moss looks tired and uninterested throughout the movie...

The plot is a mess and the whole thing appears cheaply done like they had a 50 000 Dollar budget. Disappointment of the year for me.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am a huge fan of the matrix Trilogy... I literally consumed my first collection that included the Animatrix along with plenty of extra footage on how Keanu and all the others trained so hard...

Now... That was the past. And what do we get here? A bunch of online keyboard lions crying that woke colture has once again destroyed something that we grew to love during our younger years... Like it happened to Ghostbusters and Star Wars.
Why?

And I'm gonna get deeper into this: the union between Neo and Trinity was what always made things work, even in the past.

You think that now she has been changed and is a woke character? So it was fine when she gave Neo a kiss of life? What about Trinity busting Agents' asses on that highway to secure an asset and all the other stuff she did? She's a badass and always was.
And when they died, as it said in the movie, Neo and Trinity's source codes combined. Which was what could bring energy to this new machines faction that want to reopen the fields for growing humans... But instead, with just those two, that they saved from death, it would be sufficient. Why? Because they are BOTH THE ONE now.

The only problem is that a mind that was already freed tries to break the illusion again... And while the coding for this altered Matrix was being done it's damn obvious that part of Neo went into Trinity...

In short, what the flying **** are you all complaining about! It's freaking amazing and perfectly working in the Matrix lore! Trinity was always a badass, Neo was the superman of Matrix, now we have two Chosen Ones born from their feelings for each other, through death and time!

Bring it on! I loved all of this. And I hate gratuitous wokeness. This movie had none.

Most of these idiots with multiple accounts downvoting this movie to oblivion probably didn't even realize that Smith, The Merv and all the others were just bots created within the simulation and not the real programs from the past.

Here's my 10 to you, Keanu, still my favorite of all time. To you, Carrie-Anne, for being the best badass EVER (probably along with Ripley from the Alien movie series)... It's a masterpiece, worthy of the name Matrix.

To be fair this is also true for the other sequels. There is a lot of critic for this sequel and you hear things like “The Last Jedi of Matrix”, “The weakest entry in the franchise” or “Huge disappointment” to name a few. I think I mostly agree with the statements as it is the weakest in the franchise. Look at “Spiderman No way home” for doing an awesome sequel that pleases fans, makes tons of money and earned acclaim. But back to this movie. After the announcement of the movie my friends and I were surprised. The story of the trilogy was finished and we did not know what to expect. After the trailer we were skeptic as Neo and Trinity should not be there and it looked like a reboot or restart. Then came the movie and it is or feels like a soft reboot of the first movie. However with a weaker script, weaker acting, less coherence and less impact. The story itself feels often like a copy of the first movie, is not that great and would need a bit of improvement. I fully admit that you can find flaws in all movies even the first Matrix but this is inferior in all regards and even the other sequels are better. To be extra fair you can see this movie just as set up for the next movies and I would agree. The story starts decades after the conclusion of the last movie. The peace between humans and machines was a lasting success. The new character Captain Bugs makes a strange discovery in a more isolated part in the Matrix and it seems that Neo who seemingly died at the end of the events of the last movie still lives in the Matrix. With this the events of the movie start. On paper the story is amazing and I can retell it in a way that you will be hyped to watch the movie. The actual experience is weaker. To shorten this I say the try to recreated the “Magic” of the first movie without success. Don't get me wrong here. It is no total failure as I see some good ideas but it is not enough or just partly done right. The actors are mixed here. I am a fan of Keanu Reeves but even I say he is weak as Neo in this movie especially when compared to the other movies or John Wick. Carrie Anne Moss as Trinity is good and delivers. She actually gets a bit more room and can show more facets. Now to the elephants in the acting room. They recast two characters which roles I wont spoil. Jonathan Groff and Yahya Abduk Mateen II will always be compared to the other incarnations by viewers and this weakens them without them delivering a weak performance (This is natural with recasts or new incarnations of characters or a story. You compare this to the gold standard). The others are iconic and had many years to work. So this is a weakness that I cant blame on the actors but is valid. Captain Bugs played by Jessica Henwick is a great addition and enjoyable character that I liked a lot. The antagonist is also weaker and to be fair what does he actually want to archive? I say the cast is a hit and miss. Now to the actions and effects. I expected more in the action department and it is a disappointment. Especially the camera angles made many scenes less impactful and a bit confusing. The effects work well enough. The soundtrack is fine for me. Overall this is like a weaker re-imagination of the first movie. I fully admit that they put a lot of effort into it but it lacks or lets say reaches never the levels of the first movies or even other sequels. I would ignore this movie and watch something else but say it is not a total disaster. Expand

It feels almost in a way like a reboot with a modern-day spin to it. It feels more light-hearted, especially with Neil Patrick-Harris' character. I definitely want to give it a second watch.

However, I think if you're a "woke"-hating, older conservative you should probably give this movie a pass because it will trigger you with things like females taking leadership roles that classically belonged to men as well as youth-centric culture and lingo. If you cringe at terms like "lol", aren't interested in things like video games or the inclusion of minorities then you should probably do yourself a favor and pretend like this movie never happened because you will very likely get upset from watching this.

It’s also difficult to imagine now, but the initial Matrix was released with very little promotion, especially against the anticipated release of the Phantom Menace. I went into Resurrection with little expectations and excitement. I loved the first movie, felt so so about the following sequels, but respected they told a complete story, and felt this new one was a nostalgic cash grab. I don’t know if that’s true, but the film is very meta and overall enjoyable. The story moves along quickly and I was impressed they let people age, particularly women which is rarity in movies. The younger cast is cool, and there are much worse ways to spend an evening. Expand

I've watched the first film easily over 100 times, and although 2 & 3 had their issues, I still appreciate and enjoy them for what they brought to the table. Naturally I saw this film on opening night and even bought 10 tickets for my friends to come along. The apologies I've had to make to everyone I took along, speak volumes about how big the downgrade is with this film vs. everything that's come prior.

* The action, worse
* The lighting, colours, cinematography, and overall look of the film feels more like a tv show than a Matrix film
* The writing/dialogue/pacing, worse
* The audio, worse. (couldn't make out some dialogue, soundtrack/score is a huge step down)
* The 40mins of over-done meta commentary at the start of the film quickly becomes painful to watch
* Virtually all the characters felt underdeveloped
* Strong fan-film/parody vibes for almost all the runtime

The film isn't completely without ideas or moments with potential, but they're all drowned out under the weight of it's many problems.

Maybe giving this film a 1 rating is too harsh, but all things said and done, I'd rather I hadn't even seen it.

But it'sA depressing, messy, allegory on the drudgery and banality of modern day life and its modern social methods of control (i,e social media). That sacrifices the franchise, using nostalgia as a trojan horse to deliver its subtext. But it's fundamentally a love story. Or so we're told.

All the known stamps of a solo wachowski project of the last 15 years are present here. Convoluted premises and plots, with sloppy spiritual and pseudo-philosophical messages. You've heard the criticisms before. "Interesting ideas, poor execution". Blah, blah.

This time there's a new added twist. Overusing meta narratives to subvert your expectations of what a sequel/reboot should be like. Half way through the movie, after your head has been beaten to a pulp by these meta narratives, you'll pick up on things the movie wants you to gloss over. Like a splinter in your mind driving you mad... How they bridged the last movie to the new one seems treated like an afterthought. How they brought back old characters seemed forced and sloppy, and sometimes intentionally played for comedic effect. Oh, and there's a war going on with new alliances forged. Did you forget of all that? Because what they really want you to remember is that this is a love story. Or that maybe the noise of social media is just like war's. Oh heck I'm confused.

It also looks very scaled down compared to the first three movies, while still remaining a visually-competent movie. All actors do a good job specially the new girl who serves as a catalyst of men's fanboyism over neo.

Where do we go from here, it's up to what people will get out of it...
To me the movie felt more like a final send off, than a sequel meant to reboot the franchise. Because the motivations given as an excuse to make this movie sound dubious at best. The end result could be easily misinterpreted as a final FU to fans of the original matrix film, from an industry veteran whose interesting but flawed work, has been largely ignored by pop culture in the last decade...

I'd give the movie some props. You see, the movie and I had a connection. I don’t fully understand how it happened. But it finally killed ALL my curiosity and interest in any future reboot, remake, prequel, sequel of ANY franchise. It did really made me think how burned out I am on modern hollywood movies. And even though it felt like a depressing exercise to sit through it, it set me free. I've unplugged of any interest in crappy reboots/sequels - a new man, so to speak. Btw, did I mention it's a love story? I guess I felt too burned out at the end to care about that. Definitely not worth a rewatch.

As someone who REGULARLY binges the original Matrix trilogy ((much like anything Disney barring the Mandalorian relating to Star Wars (thus far)), it really shows as a sign of the times that a movie literally cannot be made unless it's showing some kinds of things that as a white male, I'm not allowed to talk about on the internet. A good movie, does not need to lean anywhere near as hard on its source material as this one did. Literally every throwback to the original movies, I knew was going to happen before it did. The bit at the end where Trinity is looking at the sky, I was sitting there saying "don't you dare say it, I swear to god, do not say it", and then cursed the movie aloud for the god knows how many'th time for it literally just doing what the old movies did to be relevant to fans. The best way to describe it is that in one of MauLer's videos, he explains that the prequel Star Wars movies are bad, but the reasons they're bad is complicated, whereas the sequel trilogy is bad and it's obvious why. This movie, is the latter, if you took out every reference to the original trilogy of Matrix movies, you'd still have give or take 20 minutes of really awful movie to slog through. There's nothing new here, there's nothing impressive, the one "big" fight scene of the movie was unimpressive, the two or three smaller fight scenes were awfully choreographed considering all the work that was done in the original movies. Returning the Merovingian (I think), had literally no impact on the movie, and only using flashbacks of Hugo Weaving and Laurence Fishburne is some kind of sin, which is only further compounded by completely replacing both of them with other actors. I have never, in my 30 years of watching movies, watched something as self-fellatory as this movie.

Also, the memories of someone being used by a games development company? Where have I heard that plotline before? Oh that's right, ASSASSIN'S CREED IV BLACK FLAG. Worst thing is, I have to watch this awful mess at least 2-3 more times just for a stupid review that even I don't care enough to write or record. Wish me luck folks.

This film is content to leech off the original trilogy and has almost nothing to offer in the way of new ideas. New characters are almost entirely forgettable as they have little chance to make an impact on viewers. The whole thing is just really up its own ass and goes as far as literally winking at the audience to one of its countless references. There have been a lot of legacy sequels stuffed with fan service lately, but this one really cranks it up a notch. In the first half of the movie there are quite a few times footage from the original movie appears, they even had Neo watching it himself. It's all too much. But sadly that original footage just highlights how much worse this new movie looks. Beyond the story the movie just does not have the look of the classic movies. The scenes in the 'real' world do try to capture the look of the original films, but the stuff in the Matrix is bland, neither congruent with the old movies or establishing its own identity. Even the action scenes are mostly uninspired, at times downright cheap, and never hold up to the standards set by the original trilogy. Ultimately this movie feels like a waste of time, a nearly joyless retread of the classic movies that neither lives up to the quality of the original Matrix trilogy nor has any original ideas of its own. The combat scenes are a mess. There is too much information, too close combat and no clarity. Technically the are well done but everything else is too fragmented. The music wasn't really good, except maybe in two or three places. At least the actors are pretty good. The main characters seems to have fun. The best of them was surely the Analyst. I give M4 a 52%. There was a story but it was send at the speed of a train to the viewer, with little though on how it's processed. Expand

From the cringey dialogue, poor acting, to overly long non-sensical expositions, boring action, boring characters, lack of music, lack of originality, lack of story and ending with a terrible cover of the original Rage Against the Machine song. Interesting parts were underdeveloped and everything else non-interesting was overly developed. Scenes and dialogue from the first film were quite literally reused here. It reminded me of the Boondock Saints sequel which was almost literally a copy of the first.

What's most baffling was the early meta-commentary on bad sequels and studio pressure. Was the film purposefully being meta about how bad it was or did they think this was actually a different kind of sequel? In the first film you had snippets of Baudrillard's reference to Simulacra and Simulation. The Matrix Resurrections feels like a photocopy on it's fourth scan of the original; best avoided all together and removed from the first trilogy.

If this was the movie that came out in the late 90s, it would have never skyrocketed to any measure of success. For those that say this movie wasn't so bad (or actually said it was decent or good), they have ZERO standards. None. These people will accept trash. Compare this movie to the original Matrix which came out in 1999, the original had better music, better edited and flow, better more memorable supporting cast, costume design, fight choreography, tension and tone, momentum, style, etc. The original had so many badass scenes. The only line I remember Apoc having, was when he turned to Neo and handed him a gun, and said "I hope the Oracle gave you some good news." With just one line he was more memorable than any of the new crew in Resurrections. Switch, in her all white, first introduced by pointing a handcannon at Neo in the car. She was badass. Matrix Resurrections is a parody of the original Matrix, and is a fan-fiction version of it. Neo is ridiculous in this movie, as all he does is this Jedi 'force-push' move to protect himself. There is a bootleg Morpheus in here, which does NOT work. They think the audience can tolerate this replacement of Morpheus... they are wrong. Same thing with the replacement of Agent Smith, which calls Neo 'Tom', instead of Mr. Anderson (WTF?). All of this DOES NOT work. Also, the villain is corny and cringe. Nothing about this movie moved the Matrix series narrative any further. Another review said it perfectly that this was wholly unnecessary. If you're not adding anything of substance to it, don't bother. Because then all you're doing is sullying the franchise name. The only thing this movie does is elevate the 1999 original to higher levels -- a different league, since this movie in comparison is such a downgrade. I am left thankful that Laurence Fishburne (Morpheus) and Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith) get not get dragged down by this. Expand

Bad. Really bad. Boring. Self-referential to an absurd and lazy degree. Contrived. Bad CGI. Bad choreography. As a long time martial artist, I'll say the fight choreography in this film was BAD. The previous Matrix films' fight scenes were like a dance. This film? No. As if those issues aren't bad enough, I see blatant woke-ism in changing "the one" to be "the two" and how Trinity is even stronger than Neo or at least can fly first. A bit contrived? I wonder if the other Wachowski "brother" was the true creative? Oh and speaking of blatant woke-ism, how about the coffee shop scene where she poses the question about whether she as a woman has been culturally programmed to want kids?!

Throw in a blue hair Pat, teen references to Chad, some shaky cam, and really poor cinematography, then you get this...high-school fan "film". Also, how did the mumbling get through the editing room? I'll tell you how, they edited the film while stoned and laughing at the WB sugar mommas.

After all, this movie is the epitome of getting back at Mom and Dad, who raised the spoiled brats who made this.

I'm actually embarrassed for the folks that created this cringefest. There must be something truly awful going on in Hollywood when you realize just how poor these people are at story telling. What was once an admiral art form has really fallen into something lazy and ugly; the politicization and subversion of everything for the sake of the Twitter mob. The premise of the film was almost interesting but then again, it wasn't executed well at all. I came into this realizing that the blue haired trans was there to tell some woke diversity story and was willing to look past it, but then everything else happened. It was quite boring and I turned it off.

This thing was cringe and lazy.

I'm sure they don't care though. This was probably not meant to be a real film but a middle finger to anyone who ever worked at making something memorable and creative. After all, socialists and communist cannot create...they only consume and destroy.

Strongest disappointment of the decade. Why, why it was necessary to resurrect the matrix, and even so mediocre. Even a copy of the beginning of the film was made worse than it was in the original episode.

After the Halloween retro, the Bill and Ted retro, and gods know how many other retros we get we now have the Matrix retro, clearly made since Reeves is now a hot commodity thanks to his good-guy media persona and John Wick. I enjoyed the nostalgia and the Analysis is interesting; though it might have been the Architect. It was good to be back in the world again and the music poured into my veins. However, Smith was under utilized and the pacing dragged. Overall was glad to see where the story went after 3. Thought it was a better retro than I have seen but no hold on the past 3. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just recently rewatched all the matrix trilogy and was pleasantly surprised how well the movies aged, the action cinematography, story and characters were all extremely entertaining to watch. However upon watching the matrix 4 its very apparent that regardless of its 'self aware meta humour' the movie does not feel like a matrix movie. The original Mr Smith and morphius actors are replaced which creates a massive distraction in the film as I don't think their acting performances are as compelling. All the side characters are boring and get little to no development and the third act of the film completely falls apart with a weak villain and the only compelling story is between neo and trinity who reprise their roles amazingly but the script fails to support them. The final reveal in the movie is that trinity is the one or that neo and trinity are both the one which is a fine reveal but it's executed poorly, the action scenes are also messy as there is a lot of shaky cam which doesn't compare well to the well choreographed fight scenes in the original film. Overall as someone who is a matrix fan I found the film disappointing and for me the worst one. Expand

If the actors bothered to enunciate their words more clearly I might have had a fighting chance to get past the 20-minute mark. For my daily dose of mumbling I can hang around the toddler in my house.

It wasnt anywhere near as great as the 1st, and yes some of the cgi felt clunky, but overall I enjoyed the movie and its narrative and want some sequels. It resurrected the world and did what it needed to do while introducing enough new elements. That said, should they make a Matrix 5, They do need to do better. I give this movie a solid 7.
