It's amazing how incompetent people work for Disney these days! The movie is terrible in literally everything, and the aquafina song almost made me vomit... Too dark to see, too long, too bland. She's a great singer, I'll give her that. But like most animated movies, The Little Mermaid simply doesn't work in a live-action setting; and especially if the story is fundamentally unchanged.

Remarkably dark and sinister in places, the underwater characters bob and sway with all the grace of a drowning victim, as if undergoing some macabre ritual to transform into a sea creature, but frozen halfway through the process. No performer stands a chance. Not due to lack of talent (although that's a problem too, primarily with the childlike void-simpleton prince) but instead there's too many problems to overcome, too many terrible decisions to rise above. It's as if the cast thought that their faces would be animated too in the end product, and therefor maintained a static expression as instructed. I also find it totally hilarious that we're given Javier Bardem in a fright wig and pearlescent merman armor, and yet it would be a total stretch to give the main animal characters just a little more expression or personality of any kind, as opposed to the thoughtless, absurd looking deathmask versions in the film. And then you get to the final scene of the film, which is more akin to a fan-fictioneer afterthought. Just in case people missed the main message of the film and needed a simplified version. These are the kinds of things that make me happy I haven't brought anyone into this world. If for no other reason than to spare them the indignity of these films. For its much much harder nowadays to keep your kids safe from the digital age.… Expand

Bad live action recreation of the original movie. I am not even going to mention the actress who does not represent the original vision. The movie itself is bleak and washed out. It's just another souless live action Disney movie.

Comparing to the original animated movie, the original little mermaid movie has more life to it than the remake live action is. Part of the scene where Ursula said about calling Ariel as Red. This is the fluke that Disney made which I am looking where is Red. There was no Red. The song that Prince Eric sang was boring.

2nd fluke that Disney made is that braided hair won't last underwater. It is very unrealistic.… Expand

How could things get this bad at Disney? Seriously....how? They are so creatively bankrupt that they can't even STEAL their old content effectively. Wait...wait wait wait.....we have to check some boxes first. Change skin color for a bunch of people, change the theme of the story to be geared towards female empowerment (because Disney has never done that before), and make sure we hire people based on their skin color/gender. Talent? Pfff.....that's not a part of the hiring process you fool! Put aside all of the politically driven choices that were made for casting and writing (such as Arielle killing Ursula, not Eric), the film is just an absolute slog. I cannot imagine children wanting to watch this film. I was wanting to fast forward through it after only about 10 minutes. There is so much pointless fluff; it isn't exciting. What is the opposite of being "glued to your seat"? Wanting my seat to have an "EJECT" button? Yeah, that seems about right. Disney has no idea how to make movies anymore. It's just a fact. They don't care about entertainment and I don't think the executives even actually care about the various political causes they pretend to rally around either. They just care about the ESG money being funneled in from Blackrock and State Street. Well guess what Disney? I think that line of credit is starting to get tapped out. Your coffin might need one or two more nails but any way you cut it, modern Disney cannot continue in this fashion. What we the customers are left with are soulless PRODUCTS, devoid of any character, risk, heart, or quality. I have been watching the woke agenda take over for over 15 years.
