The photography and the soundtrack my friends are something out of this world. And Robert Pattinson's performance, he showed what it's like to be Bruce Wayne and Batman and he did it masterfully. And the direction of Matt Reeves, I already admired this man's work, but here he transcended. The movie is so good, all the characters I say ALL are important and look amazing. And Gotham was the way it was supposed to be. The result of the film was the delivery of a well-directed film, I think the script lacked some things, but nothing that erases the experience of a good film.
The photography, soundtrack and action scenes are beautiful to watch.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Batman, like everything else in Hollywood, has gone woke, and now sucks. In the first fight a predominantly white gang (now we know it's fiction) tries to convince an innocent black teen to commit a crime. He can't do it, of course, he's just too good. Commissioner Gordon is black now. As is Catwoman (who is also, of course, a lesbian). This is just the first 20 minutes, after which I turned it off. Expand

How's the movie? Depends on your expectations. If you prefer a superhero film with tons of actions, moments full of hope, deviaing from reality then this film is not for you. But if you're a fan of the genre of crime- noir investigation and have been dying to see the detective batman in live action then this wiil exceed your expectations. Why is the movie three hours long? Well, it had two important jobs to do. Create the environment around Batman in a way that it feels fimiliar, full of life(depressing life actually),a city that goes well the plot not some out of context city out of nowhere just named GOTHAM and let each of the rogue gallary member a time to shine(remember why TASM2 failed?).I loved the comicbook references in this movie. The character development was at it's finest. The intrection among them was decent. Everything in this film was grounded. The action, the story everything. Battinson was great . But Cobblepot and the Riddler stole the show for me. I really liked the Zodiac-killer inspired Riddler. The cinematography and the score was phenominal. It has become my one of the most favourite movies. Expand

A disgrace to the batman franchise. Batman is about a guy skilled in fighting armed with technology taking on bad guys. Robert Pattisons batman is a depressed person with bad mascara and daddy issues.

This Batman movie was really bad,it drags out the movie making it 2:50h with tons of slow motion. You spend the first 5 minuttes of the movie looking at a family trough a binocular.Bad acting from A-Z bad gadgets, ridler and penguin sounds more like a villain from power rangers.
Really disapointed that they release a movie of batman this bad.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I credit Christopher Nolan with creating the most definitive Batman movie/s. In Batman Begins Nolan showed us whats possible if you took a comic book character, gave it some serious thought, properly good actors and a credible story.

‘The Batman’ does most if not all of the above, and goes in a different, albeit more crude direction, and this iteration of Batman movie as a whole, has a very believable homemade feel to all the props, cars, motorcycles and gadgets and it works for this movie. Even the camerawork feels crude, but I'm sure all the shots were meticulously planned and framed because there are some very iconic keyframes in the movie and it did not happen by accident or serendipitously.

There are so many scenes, where the actors are moving so slowly and it is done in little slow motion. It is annoying sometimes. The movie is also political correct: many black men, Catwoman is shown unrealistically strong, Michelle Pfeifer was much better as Catwoman in my view and there was no fire between that Catwoman and Batman. The character Riddler was interesting, he had some good character traits, but he was shown too nerdy.
But there are some good things in the movie: The dark settings was nice, it is almost like a film noir, maybe even a bit too dark. The action scenes were also great. And the focus on the detective part of Batman was interesting, but somehow artificial and unrealistic, I prefered the first quarter of the movie.

It is the most nihilistic batman anything I've ever seen. Its compared to films like Se7en or Saw and with good reason. Not a good time for the kids despite the PG rating. Performances are lifeless. It also marked a distinct return to the 80s style lack of attention to realism, leaving no "outs" to explaining so many things that I lost count. Total reversal of realism from the last trilogy. Also, what was up with the disrespectful pacing? Editor thought he was making a soap opera or Netflix series. I watched "Drive My Car" with the same runtime, completely enthralled with almost nothing happening because editing was crisp and well-framed. The > 1 -hour of dead footage in The Batman was pointless. Expand

Some minor .. irks? The pace of conversation could be a little more varied. Every single one seemed to go at a snails pace, and everything whispered for some reason. Speaking of snails pace, can Batman walk faster when he's not fighting?

The story is thrilling, every punch is felt, Batman's motivations and obsession is clear from the very beginning and it shows us a side to Batman we haven't previously seen, leaning into the psychology of his character heavily. His detective skills are also front and centre whilst not taking away from the action you would come to expect from a Batman story. The choreography is the best we've seen out of any existing Batman film, the gadgets are all practical and grounded in reality, the world feels alive and lived in, the acting is also superb throughout. The cinematography and score elevates all of the aforementioned too. My only critiques of the film is the pacing gets awkward toward the later half as it feels like it's going to end in at least 3 different times which takes away from the eventual climax and that it is apparent at times it's being held back by its PG-13 rating. Particularly when characters endure great physical punishment with little to no injury shown afterward. Otherwise it was simply fantastic and easily my favorite Batman film to date. It also leaves room for Batman to grow in the sequels making me all the more keen for the sequels. If you had any doubt before and you've read this, book that ticket now! Expand

The film was too dark as if everything was filmed at nights (I hate movies that 90% were shot at night, it’s too annoying). The bike and car wasn’t technically advanced for a character like Batman who is known for his intense advanced technology bike, car and flying pad. Acts too moody as Bruce and comes off like a Walmart version of The Crow at times. Way too long. Totally contrived 'plot twists' ruin this movie. The fight scenes were cool. The Batmobile was super slick. There qere some good scenes, just clearly not 3 hours of them. At times, my friend and I wanted to fall asleep. The villian just plain sucked. The takeaway is that this just might be the worst Batman movie in the last 15-20 years or so.. Expand

Bruce was enveloped in being the Batman, why? I can speculate, but the movie never really showed me. Batman is on the riddler case, but the mystery never felt clever or suspenseful, it was bit confusing. I wanted more time with the riddler from the riddlers perspective. What made him into a ticking time bomb? I wanted to see his struggles; a game of cat and mouse.

Speaking of Catwoman, I could not have given a **** about that story. It detracted from the focus of the Riddler. However there is so many things they got right. Gotham, the suit, the casting, the mood, the claustrophobia, the corruption, the filth of the city. All exactly what I want in my Batman movie, but the story was Ehhhh...

« The Predator » !… bah putain.

And how does it fair? Yeah, it's pretty good, it drags on in some places, mostly in the first half, but when the movies finally start picking up steam in the second half, it starts to get fantastic. Without getting into too much territory, the Riddler was fantastic even though the riddles themselves didn't seem too special. We also don't spend too much time with Bruce, so the certain impact moment just fell flat cause I hadn't built a relationship with this newer Batman. Expand

Great movie. Nice start to the franchise and I hope we get more. While a little long, the action was spaced out perfectly and the ending really brings Batman’s arc full circle.

Superficial attempts at realism fall flat - the more you try to take 2-dimensional characters seriously, the sillier they seem. The Batman is a movie that claims to revolutionize big-screen adaptations of the classic character, but fails in almost every way.

The cinematography and music/score are amazing, but every other aspect of this movie left me wanting.

Batman is a moody like a teenager, and clearly is supposed to learn a lesson about what he represents to the city of Gotham. But that lesson is completely unearned by the end of the film, and in fact his character is almost superfluous to the heroic climax.

Zoe Kravitz tries to deliver an intriguing Catwoman, but the writing leaves her as a damsel in distress multiple times, and the super-flawed Batman is constantly taking the moral high ground with her and talking down to her.

Colin Ferrell's Penguin was a high point for his performance and humor, but underused as just a secondary villain.

The plot is plodding and overly-long. Upon my second watch of the movie, I found myself drifting off to sleep often in the first half. Knowing what happens next, I lost all interest in the mystery because it is delivered in an unexciting manner. The Riddler is the main antagonist for awhile, but then disappears from the movie and is replaced with a string of other threats before becoming just another item to be checked off the list by the end.

The action is well choreographed, but just like other DCEU films, there is a swath of collateral damage that is far too apparent to be ignored as it is. Batman is just as destructive at the end of the film as he is at the beginning, leaving one to wonder what the lesson is to be learned here.

On a related note, the movie does touch upon current issues such as corruption and greed in politics and government, but then has a very regressive take on the mentally ill and the drug epidemic. The themes presented here are muddled and presented in a slap-dash manner that makes little sense.

Overall, I found the movie boring, regressive, and without meaningful themes.

It felt and looked childish with no potential dialogue for the entire movie, it all just feels like a huge stall. And for about 1 hour we had this horrible riddles of "what is a rat with wings " (in spanish, as if it wasnt enoufh of a joke). The worst is that no one knew the answer.,.

With "The Batman," I think they've achieved something really special. The creative leeway they've given Matt Reeves has not only allowed for one of the best looking comic book movies ever made to take shape, but a comic book movie that I can truly say has gotten the closest to distilling the experience of reading a graphic novel down to a cinematic level. The saga at hand is so lushly designed and brilliantly realized, layered with hard-hitting action, vibrant character work and mesmerizing exercises in world-building. The performances are frankly top tier and Michael Giacchino's score is damn near perfect, if not the best thing I've ever heard him do. There's a lot to process here, but the more I think back on it, the more I'm reminded of the things I loved. I felt things watching this that I haven't felt while watching a Batman movie in quite some time. The first and last twenty minutes of this might some of the finest bits of any Batman movie we'll ever get. Simply incredible work and I can't wait to dive into this world again. Expand

For starters who was that person that was supposed to be Bruce Wayne/Batman? This Batman is afraid of heights? When he fights, he actually stumbles when hit by a punch or punches. Meanwhile he is supposed to wear a bullet-proof gear, so that bullets shot at him do nothing, and bounce off him like pop-corn. His armour is strong enough to withstand bullets coming at him at close quarters but not strong enough to absorb punches? This Batman is a walking oxymoron. Then, there is that silly walk, out of the dark to confront some street baddies, at a crime scene, and in a Police station. Talking about the Police Station, what is Batman doing at a Police Station? He seemed like a wanna-be sleuth volunteering to help the police with errands to buy doughnuts and coffee, hoping that one day he would some how get involved in the real crime-investigation stuff. How pathetic. The Batman portrayed in “The Batman” was anything but the Batman expected. This stripped down, brooding, detached version, made the character so ordinary. What is the point of dressing someone up in so much gear with all the gizmos and gadgets and then making him so ordinary? There is a reason why he is called a superhero. Batman either is or is not. If he is not, then get rid of the whole gear, which makes him look overdressed. Also, why did it take so long for the bat mobile to make an appearance, one of the bright spots in the movie? The bat cycle on the other hand just looked like an ordinary motorbike. To make bad, worse, all of the story unfolds over an unnecessarily long duration. No marks for guessing what my rating of this movie is. Expand

From the Tim Burton films to de Dark Knight trilogy, the impact of this character is undeniable. So, how could someone write another story about Batman and still give the audience something new? Well, Matt Reeves's "The Batman" is the answer. A movie that seems to be pulled straight out of the comic books, has it's mark as the truest and most faithful portrayal of the Caped Crusader and the world he lives in. All the performances are great and Robert Pattinson is the best Batman we've ever saw on screen. Michael Giacchino's score is beautiful and helps to create an immersive atmosphere. A must see if you are a fan of cinema and of course of the Bat. Expand

The Detective we all deserve to see on the big screen. Finally. This movie captures the essence of batman as a detective and gotham as a cesspool. This is how batman is done.

One of the best movies I saw in a long time. Amazing plot and characters. Pattinson is the best Batman but I’m still not sure about Bruce Wayn.
