I love this movie for it being comically accurate. it was the batman being a detective and I love how simple they can keep it sometimes. everyone's acting in the movie was so excellent. whoever says this movie is "overrated", I disagree with you.

I admit thatThe new Batman is here and from the trailers I already had high expectations and I can say with a smile on my face that this movie lived up to them. Robert Pattinson did raise a few concerns in me, but thankfully unnecessarily. I admit that Christian Bale remains the best Batman for me, but this one was also great and had something going for it. But what the film did best in my opinion was the atmosphere. It was absolutely fabulous. It immediately drew me in and didn't let go until the end, even over 3 hours in. Not everyone will like it. The pacing is slower and most importantly this is a bit of a different Batman. It's much more detectivey and rarely gets any action. Personally, I welcome this news warmly and I really liked this detective style and enjoyed watching the various pieces of information being uncovered until the very end. As I mentioned before, there isn't much action, but it's all the better when it does occur now and then. It's really great, and it felt quite realistic, which made it even more immersive. In short, this is not some superhero action movie with a full load of action and an immortal main character. On the contrary. Batman isn't as strong here and at times he takes a beating from his enemies, which adds to the aforementioned realism. What added to the quality was the music, which at times perfectly highlighted the moment and more than once I got goosebumps or simply the feeling that I was watching something spectacular. I would also like to mention the excellent chemistry between Batman and Catwoman, because we have perhaps never seen such chemistry in any Batman movie. So the question is kind of whether this is the best Batman movie. How about. It's hard to compare, because this one was vastly different from the previous ones and it goes its own way and it's doing just fine by the way. I personally prefer Christopher Nolan's Batman, but that's a matter of taste. Back to Matt Reeves' Batman, though. I believe that some will love it for its change to the detective genre and others will find it a long, slow and mostly boring affair. I'm among those who welcomed this new release and for me, it is a wonderful film that I recommend. Expand

It was 3 hours of slow, tedious dialogue, uninspired presentation, and sad sad characters (I never knew Batman could be so emo. That was A LOT of mascara under the eyes). And allow me to educate the film makers from someone who actually reads comics, because I know they don't. Superheroes are larger than reality -- that's what makes them exciting. Previous Batman films had exotic tech, wild characters that wouldn't exist in real life, and Batman did things that stretch the imagination of what is possible for mortal men. But apparently, such extras are not included with Emo Batman action figures. He punches guys, hoists himself with grappling hooks, the bat mobile is a modified 80s muscle car, and uses a stupid base jumping suit to fall with style. It's a far cry from remote attracted bat swarms, trick baterangs, and outrageous vehicles like the Knightcrawler.

And don't think the blatant racism and sexism wasn't apparent. I see you DC and Warner Bros. I see how every evil character was a white man, and barring Batman and Alfred every decent character was black or Hispanic. I see your blackwashing and the white erasure of originally white characters like Selena and Jim. I see you getting Selena to specifically call the city of Gotham a place for "white privilaged **** I see you turning the Riddler into a sad, mentally unstable loner reminiscent of the mass shooters leftwing media likes to propagandize to engender misandry and white hatred. I see you and I am calling you out for your racism and sexism and am going to tell everyone it was you're companies.
And if you dear reader downvote my review based on this second paragraph, then I say with complete sincerity that you are a sexist and racist too and you should be ashamed of your sad, hate filled life.

The story is dark but the movie itself is even darker. Virtually the entire movie occurs at night and there is hardly enough light to see what is happening... The movie is also very, very long. At three hours, it could use some judicious editing. This is especially true for the first half of the movie. It sets the tone for the movie and it does so emphatically and repeatedly--nearly endlessly. The real action and the meat of the movie does not really get going until the last one-third of the movie. That part of the movie is when the story starts to get interesting. It just takes way too long to get there. And it's so very dark it's hard to see what is actually happening. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've been waiting for this movie since the moment I saw the first shots. Already from them it became clear that the movie would turn out to be at least incredibly stylish. And this expectation was justified!

Pattinson fits perfectly into the role of the inexperienced, still unrestrained, but already moral compass and 'don't kill' code, Batman. He feels very physical here: you literally feel the necessary heaviness of his suit, the force of blows in well-placed fights. Robert looks just as cool as Bruce Wayne, who is written less like a billionaire playboy, but more like a recluse still reeling from a childhood tragedy. It's definitely an interesting approach that creates a psychological thriller/detective atmosphere.

As far as the cast, it's generally very good. Paul Dana just steals his scenes. And the very approach to the character of the Riddler has been very updated for our time. You believe him, you are afraid of him, you want to put him behind bars in Arkham. The suspense associated with it is very reminiscent of Fincher's Zodiac, which is a very nice compliment. The confrontation with him is purely intellectual, which makes the film feel like a noir detective until the third act.

The role of the Penguin is played by Collin Farrell, although he was made up in such a way that I would never know! His character is also less comical, closer to the ground, but not too much. I wonder what they'll do with it in the sequel.

Zoë Kravitz is perfect for the role of Catwoman. Her gait, look, blows are performed with the necessary grace of a cat. And most importantly: her character is not introduced for fan service, she moves the plot almost on a par with Batman.

As it turns out, director Matt Reeves, already an established master of thrillers, also has the guts to release a three-hour film in the era of couch-watching movies. But I warn you: this visual perfection needs to be viewed on a larger screen. Watching the film, you understand why it was decided to make the film so long: it has so many necessary storylines, many characters, and there is enough time for everyone. I can just imagine how Reeves argued with the producers, proving the necessity of each scene. And it's true, although the scenes are long, they never drag on too much. They rather make you savor the atmosphere and create pleasant suspense.

And there is something to savor here: each frame is thought over ten times, verified a hundred times and polished to a shine. At the cinema, I dreamed of a print screen button about every two minutes! Cinematographer Greg Frazier, who was apparently restricted in Dune, went all out and experimented with everything he could. Haven't had such visual ecstasy from watching a movie in a long time. The oppressive atmosphere of Gotham, mired in crime, is also facilitated by the very oppressive music of composer Michael Giacchino. And the song Something in the Way by Nirvana fit perfectly. I will rewatch the scenes with her again and again.

I would like to call the self-sufficiency of the film a separate plus. Yes, there is literally one scene that directly hints at what will happen in the sequel. However, in general, the film feels like a stand alone work. Even if you don't know anything about the character, everything will be clear to you. There are no constant references for the sake of references, which are full of Marvel films and sometimes detract from the film. And accordingly, there is no desire to look at YouTube 'top 100 details that you did not notice!'. Instead, it seems to me that the content around the film will be devoted to video essays that talk about the themes and symbols of the movie.

Of course, it was not without its downsides. Due to the fact that Bruce is a recluse here, you don't feel much difference between him and his alter ego. We seem to always see Batman on the screen, just sometimes he is without a mask and mascara under his eyes. I also missed interacting with Alfred. It feels like several important scenes with him were cut in the editing. I hope that their relationship will deepen in the next film. Also, sometimes I was annoyed by the invulnerability of the suit, even for bullets.

To sum it up, if you're willing to sit for three hours in a movie theater for visual enjoyment and speculate with the director about the psychology of outsiders, then you need to go to the movies. If you're a Batman fan, you need to go to the movies. If you're fed up with Marvel movies and want something fresh in the genre, you need to go to the movies. The film is worth the three hours you spend on it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A very good batman & detective movie that keeps you on the edge of your seath when things go fast. The movie ofcourse builts up the first part and succeeds in that. You know elements of the story , but in the 2nd half all the dots connect. The batman does his role really well. Same for zoe. Although im not fully shure that i really like her character. The riddler poses an excellent threat by his insanity and intelligence. The penguin feels a bit weak but at the same time he is used well enough in the movie to make him feel relevant in the story. He def has more up in his sleeve. Overall the movie has no big flaws that i can name but the dark knight just did everything better. Outside of the visuals , nothing is amazing just great. Yeah the romance came kinda out of nowhere. Which is a shame since it's such a hollywood cliche to have barely any romance between 2 charactersand yet they kiss :|

The music and cinematography was literally brilliant, there are literally several shots in whole movie which felt like a treat for eye and music every riddler's puzzle scene its suspense-full music and the shivering satisfying fight music and general music it was Great, the tone of it was dark and philosphically the riddler's and batman's crosspath it was Amazing, the characters were amazingly developed,Rob literally felt like "The Batman" although a less bruce wayne, the penguin was unrecognizably amazing and the riddlers short apperance was awesome, catwomen and gordan was amazing as batman's allies and the whole cat-women and falcone thing was surprising, the action scenes were literall treat love all the fight scenes specially the corridor fight and the ending dramtic fight and the chase sequence it was chills,Right from the start the slowpaced detective drama the riddles and the dialogues they were brillaint, the thomas wayne framing as corrupt and the whole alfred's sequence were surprising and the whole story around gotham crimes and there lords were engaging to watch, the riddler jail meet and the bruce wayne mentioning was literally shocking and WOW then the whole ending sequence the floods and the fight it was entertainingly awesome then the scene before credits of riddler in jail and the voice of Joker it was literally "NUTS",Overall it was a great cinema and a slow-paced edge of the seat dectective thriller with dark and depth it was a Masterpiece!

The examination of Batman’s relationship with Gotham asMatt Reeve’s The Batman delivers what will come to be known as the standard for comic book films of the next decade for characters as dark, brutal, torn and interesting as Bruce Wayne. The examination of Batman’s relationship with Gotham as it’s own character is at full display here. Through following the eyes of Batman and some of his greatest villains, we see the immense pain and torment, as well as a call for justice that bleeds through Batman's soul. The inner workings of the justice system with the criminal underworld bring this to life in a way that has never been examined as well as they are here. Gotham isn’t treated as a setting, but as a fully fleshed out piece of required understanding to fully calculate why the masked vigilante feels the need to keep fighting when all odds tell him he shouldn’t. Or at least the way he thinks he should. Robert Pattinson delivers a Batman/Bruce Wayne that you’ve never seen in live action on screen, one which is more akin to the most revered of his comic arcs. If you aren’t in for a long, bleak, grim and broody journey to understand the dichotomy at play, you might want to steer clear of this hype train. DON’T BRING THE KIDS. This is probably the most adult oriented mainstream comic book film ever. It’s beyond me how WB didn’t get an R rating for this one. Everyone comes through with a powerhouse performance. From the completely indistinguishable Colin Ferrel as the just right amount of hokey Penguin, to the (unsurprising) high caliber career defining performance from Paul Dano as the Riddler. He is terrifying as the character, feeling like he was pulled out of a horror film and plopped in this story perfectly. At the same time, while it feels like there is no one who can challenge Batman physically, the Riddler feels like the only one who can overcome him intellectually. Dano’s Riddler will undoubtedly be compared to Heath Ledger’s Joker in The Dark Knight and rightfully so. Everyone knows what is at stake here and everyone shows up with their A-game. Reeve masterfully weaves these notoriously over the top comic characters in his extremely grounded film so well, that you could convince yourself they were always real people to begin with. You may not be able to tell from the previews we’ve had, but it is more in line with movies like Se7en or Zodiac, completely straying from the tones/themes of superhero movies that have run their course for years. This is the furthest from a bad thing and feels like a breath of fresh air whisked into the genre. I would even go as far as to say, as a massive fan of the genre, that this movie could eventually even rank up there with the most renown noire crime thrillers. Don’t go into this expecting some action spectacle (but there is still a good amount) but more of a detective story with Batman playing the lead role. There will be some who may find it drawn out and too long and that is fair criticism. (As with Joker, although this is far from the same movie) There are bits here that can be trimmed to bring the runtime down to a more sharp 2 hours and 30 minutes. But for the most part, I see this only being a gripe for casuals, especially in a time where folks have no issues with binging whole series’ in less than a day. If you are a Batman fan at heart, there’s just nothing in me that would say you won’t want to walk back in for another 3 hours, or scream for the sequel immediately. Once it is all said and done, and the world has had time to sit with this movie, I feel that there will firmly be two camps on what is the definitive Batman flick. The Batman or The Dark Knight, and that solely comes down to preference for genre/tone. What we are seeing here is a feat that nobody thought was possible. Matt Reeves has made a Batman film that has potential to dethrone The Dark Knight, and if it doesn’t it will nestle perfectly next to it and be known as one of the greatest comic book adaptations of all time. The film is straightforward, there is no time for jokes and following an investigative police narrative, it brings us suspense and revelations. Sensational is the word, my expectations were high and the movie exceeded them. The sound and special effects are very well used, the fight scenes are incomparable. The way they explored Bruce's feelings, showed the character's values and problems, was really good. Robert Pattinson's performance is wonderful and he can convey feelings just by looking. Robert was right when he said that Bruce doesn't kill, but he really wants to. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When it comes to Batman, it’s hard to escape the influence and comparisons to the Nolan trilogy which revolutionised how his story is told: focusing on character drama, having more realistic action sequences/plots, and favouring a darker tone. The Batman is certainly no different, and it strives to be one of the grimmest entries in the franchise. In following this approach, there are elements that work great, but there are also aspects that fall a little flat.

Visually, The Batman is fantastic. The dark environment and ominous shots keep the level of tension and dread to an almost suffocating level throughout most of the runtime. Sometimes the lighting gets a bit too dark to make out objects clearly, but on the whole the movie succeeds in drawing the viewer into the miserable hellhole that is Gotham. The score is also excellent, whether it is for adding menace during a crime scene investigation or for adding to the epic-ness of a thrilling action sequence.

Speaking of action sequences, they are somewhat sparse but when they happen they are well worth the wait. The violence is brutal and realistic and some of the stunt-work is mind-boggling. When characters get hurt in this movie, you will feel it.

All the actors pull their weight and give solid performances, and nobody really stands out as a weak-point. Robert P.’s first outing as our titular hero is a reserved, but powerful, portrayal of a determined and broken man who’s trying to redeem his city and himself.

The not-so-good parts:

The storyline doesn't really justify its behemoth runtime, and it drags in a few places. The movie tried to explore a few too many avenues about the dark side of Gotham and Batman’s personal history, and a few of them didn't get tied up that well. I also felt the closing climax act didn’t really add much to the movie and could be omitted entirely.

The villain plot wasn’t that interesting for me as it just seems like a rehashed version of David Fincher’s Seven or Zodiac but thrown into the Batman universe. I do like the approach of doing a Batman movie that is heavier on the detective side, but I just felt the stakes weren’t as high or as personal as some of the ones depicted in Nolan’s trilogy.

All of the characters are very cold and bitter, outside of our psychotic villain. While I understand this is probably what the film is going for to accentuate the dark and grim tone, it also made all of the characters somewhat similar and lifeless. Some of the character relationships are also lacking a bit of chemistry compared to what I experienced from the Nolan portrayal.

While the violence is generally realistic, some scenes involving Batman himself are a bit outrageous. The guy straight up turns into Superman for a few of the fight sequences, as he handles being blown up in the face, getting thrown off a high-speed vehicle, being shot multiple times - all with no long-lasting injuries, or even a scar.

Overall, The Batman is a solid new chapter in the franchise that continues the Nolan formula of depicting Batman and Gotham with a more grounded and grittier approach, but I can’t help but feel that it doesn’t bring many new things to the table while falling a bit short on achieving the same heights that its influences accomplished.

I’m actually surprised with how dark this movie is. I knew it would definitely be more serious going in. But at times this feels like a horror film. It’s a gritty detective noir thriller that feels like it takes elements of Se7en, Silence of the Lambs, and Zodiac, and mixes them with the world of Gotham, and character of Batman. This is definitely the most “detective” focused the character has felt. A lot of the movie is him working to crack riddles and uncover the truth about Gotham, all while trying to put an end to the Riddler. Robert Pattinson does a great job here. I would’ve liked to have seen more of his Bruce Wayne, as there’s only a few scenes of him as the character. But he gives us a super intimidating Batman. I love the design of the suit, and his calm, quiet voice may be my favourite the character has had in live action. Paul Dano kills it as the riddler. He is genuinely the most terrifying villain I’ve seen in a comic book movie. His first scene tells you all you need to know. While his role may be more of a behind the scenes one, with most of his appearances being audio, or video calls, his kills it with the voice and eyes. His performance definitely stole the show for me. Zoe Kravitz does a solid job as Selina Kyle here. They didn’t focus on the romance as much as I thought, and I didn’t entirely feel the chemistry between them, which is odd considering how they seem to get along in interviews. But off all the versions we’ve had of the character on screen, hers is by far the deepest. With quite an interesting backstory to tell. Penguin is pretty great in the movie. The makeup on him is insane, and he definitely feels like a different person entirely. The film has next to no humour, or joyful moments. But any of the ones there come from him. Gordon is played very well here. I really liked his dynamic with Batman. And he has a great amount of screen time. Alfred is the only character I was a little disappointed with. He’s hardly in the movie, and I felt like he should’ve had an extra scene at the end. He sort of just leaves the film. But I did like where him and Bruce’s relationship went. Back to the story, I really liked the way they tackled everything here. It’s an intriguing plot, with a lot of mystery, and while there’s not necessarily any massive reveals that blew my mind, I thought it was told very well. Riddler is just so damn intimidating in this. His traps felt like they were from saw, and some scenes definitely had me on edge and honestly creeped out. There’s not a ton of action, but when it’s there, it’s really well handled. The hand to hand fights are quick and precise. Their well shot and edited, so it’s never messy, but Batman is just fast at taking down criminals which I really liked. The batmobile chase in this is definitely the highlight, the sound shook the whole room and I was smiling the whole time. I’ve heard some complaints about the final act. But none of the reviews really pinpointed their issue with it. It’s definitely more action oriented than the first two, but in no way did it feel out of place for me. I thought it deserved and well executed. There was a few times where the movie feels like it’s gonna end, but it doesn’t. Not really a big problem though, just something that I felt. Overall it’s great. I can’t wait to rewatch it. I actually had a kind of **** experience for the first 30 or so minutes. The people in front of me were laughing and talking the second the film started, but they quickly shut up. The people behind me though were so goddamn loud with their food, it annoyed the absolute **** out of me. EDIT: Saw it a second time, loved it even more. Expand

The prologue is alienating because of the pair of chosen tracks: Schubert's "Ave Maria" and Nirvana's "Something in the Way". The photograph looks like that of "Blade Runner" but more livid and desaturated: here are not many sudden flashes, bright razorcuts of neon or lasers that cleave the darkness. The shade prevails for about 3 hours uninterrupted. At least in the incipit the pouring rain is missing, then instead it is added as well. The story is a succession of crime scenes in which a taciturn, weirdly dressed dude with a mask and cloak investigates alongside cops and detectives. If acting is optional, Pattinson could have been replaced by Robert Smith (which means the movie is not grunge or emo, but gothic). The third act loots the Fincher of '95, '99, 2007 and the McTeigue of 2005. Matt Reeves: horrible example of the new authoriality.

Robert Pattinson is THE BATMAN, absolutely my favorite performance nailed it, Colin Farrel and Jeffrey Wright were top-notch. The chemistry between Batman and Gordon was incredible. Paul Dano was very good, but nothing tops our boy, Heath.
The murder mystery noir was the right choice, absolutely loved it.
I loved the narration and it's something I am very curious to see in future chapters.
This movie kept me engaged the whole time.

Although with everything said, no, it isn't perfect.
Even though it has 3 hours, matt was able to leave some gaps and wholes in some events. For example, batman gets hit or is damaged and needs to recover, and in the next scene he is completely fine and it's like nothing happened. The relationship with Selina happens from thin air, it was very direct and without any emotion, practically rushed.
Even the cinematography was amazing, the movie itself is poor on lighting so there were scenes where you couldn't see anything, now I think there are two things to blame here, first, the projector at the cinema that I watched is known for having low brightness and I felt that in many other movies, second, the movie itself is dark, it occurs mainly at night and that's fine but at least give us the pleasure to enjoy every scene with enough lighting.

For now, a 3.5/5, after a rewatch it might not change, but I may become more assertive in some areas.

I hope Matt and everyone listen to the negative sides and try to learn from their mistakes that might have put the movie at risk.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Such a horrible film. There was zero character development, at all. Made the story feel so disjointed. Felt like someone drew up a storyboard and was shooting scenes of it, and didn’t really care how they were strung together. Did anyone notice that Bruce was out of suit maybe for 5.5 minutes combined? Literally no lines outside of him being in his Batman persona (fighting crime!) so no chance to earn any depth. Possibly one of the worst scripts of all time. Love Rob, but there’s only so much you can do with a horrible character and horrible script and direction. Did anyone else die a little Inside when he went to the club with his hair over his face? Like an emo 00’s kid. And the casting. THE CASTING. Jeffrey Wright, while generally a good actor, was not meant for this role. I cringed every time he was on screen. Gollum/Snoke, while an AMAZING actor, is NOT Alfred. Such an odd and ill fitting choice. Zoe Kravitz is generally a bad actor imo, and the script just sent her plummeting. Can we talk about her characters big reveal with the falcon being her dad? And then what? What did we do with this info thereafter? How did it further the story? Can we talk about the weird ass “woke” lines. “They’re just a bunch of straight white privileged **** - says to a straight white male. “Let’s take down those hedge fund guys” -says to a hedge fund guy. I consider myself “woke”, but my dude, make it in character and canon. Literally pulls you right out. And the Riddler talking to his followers like a **** twitch streamer? What’s going on in this movie? Visually it was pleasing, hence my 2. That’s the only praise I can give. Rob as Batman is good, as Bruce is horrible. As Bruce, felt like a twilight rendition with his angst emo-ness. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I understood what the director was going for, however I felt there were so many issues that it made the movie very dislikeable. The script was terrible in places - drawn out and boring, which in turn seemed to make the actors unable to act to the best of their ability. Many scenes could have been cut to 25% of what they were. The camera lens choices were not to my taste, but it worked all together with the feel of the scenes. The actors were very poorly cast in the majority of characters - the only one I liked was Gordon. I do think that if you have seen the Gotham series then that may have spoiled batman films as it is an incredible series with great character development (of which there was none in this film). The romance between Batman and Catwoman was so wooden and unnatural, like there was no chemistry at all. It got to the point in the film that whenever there was extended sections that could have been a quarter of the length, I just found it laughable. I'm glad some people enjoyed the film but please compare it to a number of films and series of the same type before you decide that this is in the realm of good.
Would never watch this again and would avoid any future ones in the same series.

It was tiring to watch. Related media: This is a reimagining of the Batman story, so there is no relation to the earlier films. Synopsis: The story starts 2 years after Batman first appeared in the terribly corrupt and crime-ridden Gotham City. The Riddler starts killing and leaving riddles for Batman to solve, clues that reveal how corruption had permeated many institutions, including one that is close to the Batman.

Positive:

1) It was a relief that it didn't suck after all the rumours about a difficult production and a difficult Robert Pattinson.

2)Zoe Kravitz portraying Catwoman is the best part of the film.

Negatives:

1) The film was overly dark, lighting-wise and tone-wise. The Marvel Cinematic Universe films are so successful because you can see what is happening and they are also almost all fun to watch. I know this is a film about the Dark Knight, but you need to contrast the dark parts with the brighter parts to make the dark parts stand out more. Otherwise, the viewers are just going to be drained at the end of the film. The director may have this intention, but I had felt drained and frustrated. 2) At nearly 3 hrs long (including credits), the film is 1 hour too long. I had looked at my watch far too many times during the film, indicating that I was bored. The story is too complex, there are too many characters to follow and there are too many things happening. There is also one dead villain being repeatedly mentioned but there were no photo or video of him thus making it hard to follow the story. 3) Robert Pattinson gets to act out his emo goth but I did not enjoy watching him. This film has turned me off watching his other films because I think many of them have him acting out in the same way too.

How would the different age groups rate this:

Children: (not rated for children).

Teens: Good.

Young adults: Excellent.

Medium-age adults: Average. Old adults: Poor

My rating: 3/5 (no half scores). Only worth to catch it on TV.

I rather watch 1 and half hour action oriented Batman vs Deathstroke story with cool moves, gadgets, vehicles than these 3 hours pls no sequels by Matt Reeves. These 3 hours can shorten, do away with that wayne parents stuff. Hey, Matt, did u copy some idea from the game Batman Telltale? Should do film like Batman Arkham Knight style. Batarang used from the chest like a waste. A disappointed film. The action scenes, what few there are, are terrible, none of the characters are memorable, and none of the twists really work. They're all either extremely predictable, or far less interesting than what I was coming up with while watching it. Worse than all of this though, is supposedly an intellectual movie, that has multiple illogical and down right stupid moments that require unacceptable levels of suspension of disbelief from the viewer. The Batman series has had phases of excellence and phases of disaster, and sadly, this movie falls in the latter category. Save your money and watch something else. Expand

My spoiler free review of “The Batman”

So, as someone who has a bit of a Batman obsession since I was about 11 years old and have read my fair share of comics while collecting a good amount of graphic novels over the years; let’s just say I was very excited for this movie. I was nervous though….

It’s been 10 years since we had a solo Batman film. We never got what we were promised with Ben Affleck’s version which was no fault of his really but that’s another story(looking at you WB) which meant that the Nolan films had been our saving grace and our curse. Was that trilogy really as good as it was going to get?

I’m happy to tell you the answer is a resounding NO!!!!! Writer and Director, Matt Reeves of The Apes Trilogy has carved out one heck of a story that you owe to yourself to see on the largest screen imaginable!

I can see this making a lot of peoples top 5 lists for best comic book (Marvel or DC) films of all time and even though it's March, it should easily be one of the top 10 films of 2022 when the dust settles.

Couldn't believe how grounded and realistic this felt even compared to the Dark Knight Trilogy. This version of Gotham seemed like it was set in the 90's yet had a lot of today's problems which makes this film very relevant and powerful.

The cast was amazing! This Pattinson guy has come a long from Twilight let me tell you. What a great actor! His Bruce Wayne is bitter and troubled. In turn his Batman is hellbent on vengefulness no matter the cost to himself. Batman with a death wish! But great story telling shows the character evolve throughout and by it's end you see him realize his true destiny on inspiring hope in a city in desperation of it. Well done!

Catwoman was amazing and as reported her chemistry with Batman is off the charts hot!!! She's just really cool and has deep story too. Others are great too such as Gordon, Alfred, and Penguin, but boy did Paul Dani as the Riddler steal the show!!! A mix of intellect with disturbed sense of morals and reality made him so frightening. Easy to see how he was based off of the Zodiac killer but I instantly got John Doe vibes from Seven with this guy! Creepy!!!!

In fact this movie should remind you of Seven, Zodiac and probably China Town with a tiny bit of Saw for good measure. The classic Noir element recalls an era I am not as familiar with but I instantly thought of Maltese Falcon especially as Batman narrated the entire film with such gloom.

This is unlike any other Batman film you have seen before yet it feels like a Batman graphic novel bursting with life on the screen. So immersive! The question is whether this is better than the Dark Knight or even if it's the best Batman film ever?

Well, I won't say it's better than the Dark Knight which has become the gold standard for comic book films but I will say it's one of the three best Batman films of all time. It deserves multiple viewings and it deserves to be the first chapter of at least a trilogy if not 5 or 6 film anthology.

There are things wrong with this movie. But I'm tired of the tired indictment that a movie cannot be good if it is 3 hours long. If you want nothing but mindless action go watch Fast and Furious. People can enjoy films that make you think and don't have explosions every three minutes. I enjoyed the acting, the script, the ambiance, and music. It was grim and dreary but not lacking story and action.

A massive letdown...

I'm as big of a Batman fan as they come and I was beyond excited for this movie after several stunning trailers, I even liked the casting of Pattinson of Batman and wanted to see him prove all the doubters wrong...

First I'll say what I did like about the film:
-The score
-The cinematography
-Colin Ferell's unrecognizable performance
-The Batsuit and Batmobile
-Catwoman's portrayl

Now what I didn't like about this one:
-The snail like pacing
-Emo Bruce Wayne who doesn't separate his Batman persona from his regular life
-The lack of screen time and chemistry for Alfred
-The jumbled and disjointed plot that doesn't seem to know exactly where it's going
-Riddler's ultimate ploy at the end of the movie not aligning with his motivation from the rest of the film
-The lack of memorable action scenes - Some rather cringey/weak dialogue which I blame on the writers and not the stellar cast

While not an entirely a bad film, it simply left me with a feeling of "meh' which is not what I expect from a big budget lice action Batman reboot. A reboot has to feel necessary and this movie does nothing better than the Nolan film's already pulled off. I literally went home and rewatched Batman Begins after I left the theater just to remind myself of what a Batman movie should feel like.

A new era for Batman has begun, and it's really exciting.

In this neo-noir thriller, Batman goes full detective, something that wasn't developed at all in previous film versions. This time, we get a cunning protagonist that, with the audience, connects the dots that will let him solve the case, along with some hurtful doubts about his family.

Robert Pattinson shines as the titular superhero. Although we don't get to see him that much as Bruce Wayne, his portrayal of the masked vigilante probably it's my favorite so far. His Batman exudes fear at every moment, but he's no perfect hero. The fact that the story is placed in his first years of crime-fighting lets us see some of his clumsiness in various situations, stressing his vulnerabilities. But it's the emotional ones that make his character more compelling and nuanced. His obsession with making a difference backfires immensely, and this is the core of the story. After all, maybe vengeance is not enough. Hope we get to keep this version for a long time.

The rest of the cast is great too. Zoë Kravitz, as Catwoman, flirts with the femme fatale trope for a moment, but her character develops into something of her own along the way. Jeffrey Wright is phenomenal as Commissioner Gordon, unexpectedly delivering some comic relief (I know what it sounds like, but just wait to see it). But Paul Dano is the true star here as the psychopathic Riddler. Even with his mask on you can feel the insanity with which he portrays the iconic villain. Think of him as the Zodiac killer with Jover vibes.

Overall, this is a solid film and a great way to start a new trilogy. Definitely want to see what happens next in this version of Gotham, especially because of the state left at the end. Here's to emo Batman supremacy!

Im usually kind but this is one of the worst movies i've ever seen. And i have no idea where the positive ones come from.

* He cant fight, the only move he knows is hammerfist.
* He walks straight into room without any tactic or minding his surroundings. You know how he use to be silent and sneaky? Now he just walks in with his heavy boots clomping slowly into the room. He's walking like a kid that borrowed daddy's shoes and **** his pants. Its so weird.
* They only shoot him right at the strongest points of his armour. They even walk up to him and shoot point blank in the stomach even though they know its bulletproof. Maybe aim for the face? Nah!
* But that probably wouldnt work either since he literally takes a bomb to the face and nothing happends. And its straight in the face from a decimeter or two away. Not even a bruise.
* Batman doesnt kill. But still causes the biggest traffic accident in the citys history killing a dozen people and doesnt care. For no reason, the payoff was nothing.
* He has one personality trait: Sadness. Remember Afflecks sad Batman picture? Thats him for the entire movie. He has no other emotions. None. At one point he's angry but still manages to be sad at the same time. Another time he's sad and sad at the same time.
* You want some light flares? Well you got them! Especially since its constantly raining heavily and the camera has to be filming straight into car and motorcycle beams. But dont worry, you also get muzzle flares straight into your face because why not.

Just watch Batman Begins again. This is so bad.

Few movies that come to mind is The Matrix, Batman Begins, Dune, Terminator etc. and quite remarkably The Batman from Matt Reeves is a masterpiece from its first go that it’s almost scary to think how they can follow up on this movie. Thankfully it’s a question for later on to think about and looking at present without spoiling anything can simply say The Batman is pure brilliance. This doesn’t rely lot in action but on story building. That’s what sets this version apart from equally brilliant Batman Begins. A must watch in big screen preferably in IMAX. Run to see this as soon as possible. Expand

The Batman is more than just a comic based feature, it's totally new and unthinkable, Matt Reeves leans on classics like Batman Year One and The Long Halloween, even the Arkham series video games, but adds his cinematic vision, making there is even a reflection on each clue of the riddle and the environment in which he won fans and followers. The politically weakened Gotham is the key point for the outcome of the plot that has moral lessons about what is revenge and what is justice. Reeves manages to make Batman's heroic journey human, how fair are you?
About acting... Robert Pattison is far from the best Bruce, even because the story makes him more withdrawn and newly accustomed to the nightlife as a dark knight, but as Batman... he's on par with Bale who, in my view, is the best Batman of the movies.
