The action is pretty good, although very focused around darker settings. The performance of Pattinson is really intense, and most surprisingly Zoe is quite strong and nuance in her rendition of catwoman. And I feel like Jeffrey Wright did cement all those younger actors around him. The Fx are minimal and very discreet, which is a good thing. The music is maybe the part where I felt the movie was very weak. The villains are a blast to watch and I kind of wanted more in the end. I give it 78%. I loved the more realistic view and the acting in this movie. Yet you don't really know in which Earth number universe, it is setup (the part where DC just can't make up it's mind) Expand

This is the closest rendition of a graphic novel on screen I have ever seen, apart from all its peers. The cinematography is just spectacular, each scene is worthy of pausing and framing, and is loaded with allegory. The fight scenes remind me of the taught, lightning-speed moves of the excellent Arkham series of games. I read recently this is one of the most rewatched movies in history, and now that makes sense. Pattison plays the role well, a man who is torn by this past and trying to redefine himself in the present. He displays remarkable intelligence and resources becoming a billionaire detective, yet shows character flaws and weaknesses becoming an everyman. His deliberate carefulness in each scene is appropriate, but this vanishes into decisive action for the well-being of others in times of crisis. This Batman upholds the right to life and dominance of law more so than previous iterations. The movie relies less on gadgets and vehicles, and more on wits and will. Kravitz plays an excellent Catwoman, born of pain, and bred to intelligent survival. Dano is a formulaic Riddler, but the unrecognizable Farrell is a remarkable penguin, stealing every scene. The entire cast performs well overall. I think we are now justified in seeing another remarkable Batman trilogy with a very unique aesthetic and arc. It is a pity other hero franchises cannot reach these levels. Perhaps Batman’s lack of powers and adherence to justice makes him the most relatable protagonist of all. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a poor imitation of Christopher Nolan's take on Batman. This Batman is not physically imposing in any way. It is never believable that he can do things you'd expect a super hero to do. The movie is long and predictable and uses the same fundamental plot that is present in all of Nolan's Batman movies i.e some plot to blow up or destroy the city or something along those lines. Its honestly terrible. There's like one or two memorable scenes in the whole movie. The rest is things you've seen countless times. Expand

Love people who say "it's slow and boring"...better go watch some Marvel **** of 1:30h for these people who don't know what a movie with the big M is; this is cinema.
Reeves bring the superhero genre in the pantheon of high class movies like Dark Knight and Joker.

The action scenes are way too few and boring. Yes, film noir yadda yadda but the detective is kind of dumb and he barely knows how to fight. It's overlong, the story is nothing to write home about, the chemistry between the characters not that great (especially with catwoman). The most emo, dumb, wimpy Batman of them all.

As a Batman movie it only surpasses the Joel Schumacher ones. I don't think I'll be seeing the sequel.

The new Batman is clumsy, bizarre, uneven, thinks its a totally different genre, and has some of the lamest action sequences that I didn't even know were possible to have in a movie about freaking Batman. Robert Pattinson plays, "some guy larping as Batman," and legit doesn't look or carry the weight or the part of the comic book character and is so gratingly thick throughout the movie you might think he's one of those paper-thin C list superheroes instead. Casting is a joke, with a strange sequence at the beginning involving a gang of "thugs" or mini-future-joker enthusiasts perhaps?

They restrain a clearly asian man, to ironically ask the only black kid in the group to "knock him out" as some sort of rite of passage. I mean they could just take his darn wallet, but they've really got to prove a point I suppose. Are people in hollywood even remotely aware of the violence from the last 3 years directed towards Asian people by actual black perpetrators? How alarmingly out-of-touch.
So the kid chickens out, Batman shows up, with the leader of the gang somehow unaware of who Batman even is even though the opening crawl dialogue tells us he's been "watching the streets" for a couple of years. This whole gang doesn't know who Batman is or has never heard of him? Even after the montage of various other minor crime examples all cower as soon as they look at their own shadow under the vague light of the Bat signal? They all seem to know Batman. What ensues is one of the worst fight scenes I've ever seen in a film, and yes- I've seen Turkish Star Wars among many other films.

Pattinson almost drunkenly stands in the middle of these seven or eight dudes and gets wailed on several times, but then somehow bumps a few of them in such an uncomfortable fashion that they turn tail and flee. One dude literally pulls out a gun and takes aim, but the other thug who didn't want to commit violence tries to stop him. The bullets magically ricochet off Batman! Must be a new super power he picked up from a better Batman movie.

They then all scatter, and we get an extremely drawn out scene where Batman walks through a throng of police people at a murder scene with some black guy who isn't Lucius Fox I guess again larping as James Gordon. This is about as far as I could possibly get in the movie without falling asleep or killing myself, so honestly I don't care what happens beyond that point. The opening Riddler reveal scene is so goofy, that I almost peed my pants. Its legitmately one of the worst villain reveal scenes I've ever seen in a movie and its played one hundred percent straight.

Not recommended to anyone with half a brain or fans of the DC comics or even the Nolan films. Its so low effort and Pattinson and Kravitz are just not suited for these roles whatsoever.

This movie's detective aspect are pretty good, but they are far too convoluted, and aren't as interesting as I would've hoped. As a result there is a lot of exposition. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A great take on Batman. More realistic in a sense and showed the early development of the legend surrounding Batman within his universe. This is not an experienced Batman, but his beginning steps with being the Batman. This movie depicts a Batman that is not a combat master or knows his way out of every situation because he lacks the experience. This movie will show Batman getting messed up because he is not thinking calmly, he is thinking with rage. I really appreciated the depiction of him being amateur Batman because it shows us something no Batman movie has shown before and that was him learning how to be the true Batman. By the end he has grown substantially as a character and learned from the mistakes he made throughout the movie. The villains in this movie are also within the early development of their villainous careers, showing the penguin before he is the top boss and who was there before him. The main villain is the riddler and this is the first instance Batman and the riddler ever come in contact. The riddlers perception of Batman is twisted and unknowing of the Batman’s true motives. Spoiler, but the riddler actually believes the Batman is his partner in vigilantism, due to his inexperience with Batman. This movie is a great watch that truly shows how Batman started and the struggles he went through to overcome his internal battle. Expand

Too many forced romance scenes between Batman and Catwoman. Inconsistent Batman who is sometimes bulletproof and sometimes not. Says he is the shadows but walks right into conflicts--common thugs happy to challenge him. Paper thin characters: Alfred, Gordon, the Riddler's victims, the reporter killed by Falcone. Endless fakeouts. Batman is shot/blown up! Oh no he's fine. Alfred is dead! Oh no he's not. Batman is going to run over Penguin! Oh no he's not. Catwoman shot Falcone! No she didn't. Riddler knows Batman's secret identity! No he does not. The major was shot! She's just fine. And many more too depressing to recount. Expand

This has to be one of the most over-rated Batman movies about. It tries very hard to be "The Dark Knight" but comes up woefully short. Very minor spoilers ahead. Nothing about the story itself.

1) Batman comes across as just a regular shmo running around in a cape. No cool James Bond style, he seems almost .. fragile. And this isnt a rap on the choice of actor - he actually is pretty good (no Christian Bale, but hes arguably as good as Ben Affleck), but the dialog in parts comes across a bit whiny and Batman doesn't come across being as intimidating as the other movies because of it.
2) The story is way to long and gets a bit dull at times. I mean sure it builds up a story but it takes way long to do so. Halfway in I found my attention wandering, which doesn't happen at other long movies like Avengers:Endgame e.g.
3) The villain and plot development isnt bad, but it feels more like a serial killer movie than a Batman movie. Some of the backstory about his family has an interesting twist, and the noir feel reminds me a bit of John Wick but it doesn't come together as well as that one (Batman is neither cool enough nor intimidating enough)

So all in all ... underwhelming.

It starts out with the murder of a Gotham city mayoral candidate by the Riddler and we are told Bruce Wayne has been Batman for 2 years fighting crime. We see Batman apprehend some random thugs early on in the Gotham streets. Batman meets with Gordon to solve the Riddler mystery, and the Riddler leaves behind riddles as clues. The Riddler is sort of like Jigsaw in the Saw movies, the serial killer in Seven, or the Zodiac killer and he wears a green domino mask with a green jumpsuit with a question mark on it. The Penguin is also in the movie as a mob boss and he's somehow involved in the whole ruse. A sexy Zoe Kravitz plays Selina Kyle or Catwoman, a cat burglar, who wants revenge on Carmine Falcone for killing her roommate. She is Batman's love interest in the movie. Overall, the movie has some great action and cinematography and is pretty tense. It keeps you on edge. One criticism I have is that it was a little too gritty and dark, and took itself a little too seriously. There is very little in the way of comic relief, but that's usually what you can expect from the Batman movies. Expand

'off' inThings I liked: The Cast: Andy Serkis is awesome in everything he does, Patterson did a great job, Jeffery Wright is the next generation's Morgan Freeman. I really like Zoe Kravitz in most things she does but she seemed kind of ... 'off' in this one. In fact the whole Batman-Catwoman romance didn't work for me. He acts all stoic, she throws some half-azzed flirtations his way and I guess that's supposed to be a romance of sorts? Colin Farrel deserves an Oscar for his performance has the Penguin. If people weren't told who was playing Cobblepot ahead of time they never would have guessed it. Paul Dano was a little...eh... much. I could have done with a little toning down of the Riddler without the PG-13 Seven wannabe.
The action was top notch and some of the best of any batman movie.
So why the score? Three major issues bring big negatives in my book: the cinematography is some of the worst I've ever seen in any movie. As dark and unrecognizable as Solo or some eps of the last season of GoT. I had to turn my brightness to max on my TV just to see what was happening in this movie. If Solo gets a knock for it, so should this movie.
The second big negative is the musical score. The entire soundtrack is a riff of the same 4 notes used over... and over.. and over again and it gets old very quick in a 3 hour movie and that brings me the third big negative:
The length. There is no way this movie needed to be 3 hours. After hearing about "Saving Gotham" with a brooding Batman for 2 hours.. I was done and tuning out for the last hour.
My next big point: this is the third Batman in 10 years. They've introduced the fourth Joker in 15 years. Why is WB so afraid of making a BM movie without even a mention of the Joker? Can we get some new villains up in here? Black Mask, Hush, Clayface, anyone that hasn't been on the big screen before? Maybe someone a little more comic-booky like Man-bat,instead of these gangsters and psychopaths, Can we quit trying to push Batman as the darkest superhero, who doesn't kill mind you, while treading the PG-13 line? I just need something new and refreshing and different in a Batman movie and this was just a harder attempt at a Batman-Nolan movie.

This leftist Marxist divisive bs agenda in everywhere on TV is why NetFlix is going broke. Otherwise, I very much enjoyed the movie. The actors played very well in their roles and I like the story: it reminded me more of the early comic books. The dark, morbid, creepy, and sad nature of things... yet there is hope and there is a fight that still lingers, and Batman, and Jim, while they are down, they are not giving up. And you can also feel the main villain wanting to "fix" things, in his own deranged manner... you feel bad for him but then you remember he's a psychopath criminal....... and lastly, by the end of the movie, you feel like things are reaching a boiling point.... things will get worse, but so will Batman. The musical score is awesome as well! Expand

Kravitz is great, Farrell is phenomenal and it was a travesty he didn't get more screen time. Dano's take on the Riddler was a bit much, its like there is middle ground between Carrey and Dano, and well, they missed it by turning him into a masked loon, think Michael Meyers with a larger vocabulary.
Serkis' Alfred is almost non-existent and the side story about Catwoman is an utter waste of time.
The score is a high point.
The reality is this story could have been told in 90 minutes to 2 hours max. Its over-inflated run time is arrogant and self indulgent.
Don't get me wrong, I had very low expectations for The Batman and it was far, far better than I thought it would be, but this sums it up:
It ain't no "Dark Knight Trilogy"

Unimpressive.

Patman is the worst performance of Batman in live action film since Clooney. That is the crux of the problems with the film, Terrible casting. With the exception of Andy Serkis and Paul Dano this was the most poorly cast batman film from top to bottom.

Other problems exist such as there being no chemistry with the cast. Pattinson and Kravitz are like watching paint dry.

The music is also a highlight in terrible. Between repeatedly beating "Something In The Way" and Ava Marie in their various rearrangements, the music is uninspired and downright bland.

There is also the writing which is more or less OK, but the pacing of it is too long, drawn out and aimlessly meandering.

Arguably the worst part of all of this is the public told you this from the beginning. Anyone who understands film making told you that this was going to be bad. Its not as bad as it could have been but it definitely is not up to the legacy of the franchise and remember this is the same franchise with batnips and Ahnold.

It took me 6 hours to get through a laborious 3 hour film from stopping it and getting bored repeatedly. A hallmark of a mediocre film

5/10. Its bad but you have undoubtedly seen worse. At least it isnt some Disney garbage.

The fact that Nirvana's "Something in the Way" -- a veritable anthem of depression -- is used prominently in at least a couple of scenes is evidence of the vibe director Matt Reeves was going for. That's not necessarily bad, but you'll have to accept that vibe as being fundamental to Bruce's nature to enjoy this movie. Thankfully, Pattinson spends most of his screen time as Batman rather than Bruce. When he is Bruce, he doesn't seem at all like the incredibly wealthy playboy/philanthropist he's supposed to be. Given the humanitarian mission of Wayne Enterprises, it's pretty bizarre that its CEO would *always* look like he's contemplating suicide. He's trying to fool the public, right?

That said, the emphasis on Batman as detective was welcome. He's supposed to be an incredibly smart guy, and Reeves really lets Batman show his smarts here. And, of course, he wouldn't be Batman without his amazing fighting chops. The fight scenes here are just remarkable. The fight choreo is the best of any Batman movie, IMO. Kudos to the stunt people in this film! I also appreciated that Reeves shows that, despite Batman's remarkable physical ability, he's still human and has his limits, which are definitely tested here.

The story is mostly interesting, but it tries to tackle too much. The movie chooses to introduce us to Batman, Cat Woman, The Riddler, Penguin, and Falcone (and technically The Joker, though just as a brief sequel teaser). It touches on their backstories, but it didn't feel like any of their backstories got the time they deserve. And this shifting about across characters had me drifting off a bit somewhere in the middle; things felt a little unfocused.

Speaking of which, the movie doesn't justify its nearly 3-hour runtime. Given the long runtime, I wish they *did* focus more on backstories, but there are some overlong and unnecessary scenes which didn't add to the narrative. Still, this is a solid entry into the Batman catalog, and with a few tweaks, I'm hopeful that the next installment (which will almost certainly feature The Joker) will be even better.

Robert Pattison was a pretty decent choice for Batman/Bruce Wayne overall I can't fault the movie on his performance. It was interesting to see an amateurish Batman struggle as he was at the beginning still learning. Despite this the villain cast is kind of weak. Yet again they just turn the main villain Riddler into a bad Joker clone. Colin Farrell was an acceptable Penguin, but really just the side villain here still growing in the Gotham underworld. There are some good action scenes, but overall the main plot is too drawn out and it becomes a bit boring at times as this movie is definitely too long and not enough to fill in the gaps. Of the supporting cast the Jim Gordon selection was good, but Catwoman was so-so at best. She played a pivotal part, but the actress who played her was just kind of meh. Overall this is decent but still nowhere near Christopher Nolan's trilogy. Expand

Finally Paul Dano is the MVP of the movie. He perfectly portrayed Riddling from the comic & added terror with the character.Colin Farrel provide some good moments as Penguin

It’s Halloween night. Do you know where the Batman is? Is he lurking in the shadows of that alleyway you face after a robbery you commit? Is he inside the building you’re vandalizing, waiting for your guard to drop? Or maybe he’s behind youIt’s Halloween night. Do you know where the Batman is? Is he lurking in the shadows of that alleyway you face after a robbery you commit? Is he inside the building you’re vandalizing, waiting for your guard to drop? Or maybe he’s behind you in the subway as you heckle an innocent bystander. It’s a big city. He could be anywhere. He could be anybody. How would you ever know?

Matt Reeves’ interpretation of the caped crusader in “The Batman” focuses a lot on the fear that he instills. Fear has been in important plot device in every iteration, but it’s played on a lot here. A lot of criminals will boast how unafraid they actually are, but when they see the cowl erupt into the light, and the speed of him increase they can’t help but cower and lose that naive bravery.

But fear is not the only tool Batman/Bruce Wayne (Robert Pattinson) has in his arsenal. In addition to being a very imposing figure with incredible, but grounded, gadgets, Batman has his mind, where he takes on the identity of the world’s greatest detective, a famous moniker that Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin (Colin Farrell) takes and puts on its heels. And he needs to be if he hopes to save the city from its latest threat, The Riddler (Paul Dano), a masked serial killer hellbent on revealing the corruption of the city of Gotham and its leaders. Not just the crooked cops but the elected officials, members of the mob, and philanthropists alike. Those who promise change, only to be forgotten and betrayed once the power they seek is attained.
Is Riddler wrong? Not necessarily. Corruption is a powerful weapon used to turn good men around into a life of deviance. But is he going about it the right way? Again, not really. But what can one do when the judges who would oversee the cases of the men put away are as corrupt as those that are put in front of them. That’s where the brute force of those like Batman who answer to nobody but themselves and the code they abide by comes in. There’s a line that you can cross, and once you do you’re just like those you seek to destroy.

Now if you’re reading this, and thinking “Well geez, this all sounds a little familiar” you would be on the right track. While Batman movies/comics/games have been saying more or less the same thing for the last 80+ years, the difference lies entirely in the execution. At this point with all the source material available, it’s hard to get the underlying of Batman wrong. Everything lies in the performance that is given, the stakes that are held, and the technical work behind and inside the camera.

One of the most talked about and prevalent aspects of this film is the beautiful and at times chilling score by Michael Giacchino. With his imposing theme, to the beautiful undertones of “Ave Maria”, there’s a lot to love. It’s a soundtrack that has the intense seat-gripping horns and the calm harps that can mold themselves to fit into whatever scene writer Matt Reeves and Peter Craig throw at the audience. And then there’s the cinematography by Greig Fraser. He has one of the best eyes for what the camera can show us in a modern blockbuster. He’s done the great work for “Dune”, “Vice”, “Zero Dark Thirty”, and more, proving time and time again he’s a force to be reckoned with and one that ultimately should be rewarded with an even more impressive career going forward.

There’s so much to talk about, but there’s also so much movie to be had. And keeping in theme with having this review be as spoiler-free as possible, it must be urged that the words on this page can’t express how much this movie deserves to be seen. Of course it won’t have any problem with that, seeing as it has sold out its early access fan screenings days before the official release.

Rapid firing what this movie had that was especially lovely: shirtless Robert Pattinson—Colin Farrell doing a little Penguin walk while tied up—Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman (nothing specific here, just her entire presence)—incredible action work by stunt coordinators Darko Tuscan, Steve Griffin, and everybody else on the stunt team.

Overall, “The Batman” brings a lot of the same to the table, but does it with a lot more craft and precision than some other efforts. The Batman was a wonderful film, and personally I can’t wait to see the rest of the story unfold in future movies.

Robert Pattinson is an amazing actor with a wide range (The Lighthouse, Good Time, The Devil All the Time,) and Matt Reeves is a phenomenal director that's working with some of the best source material ever. Batman is a character with a very fleshed out emotional and psychological background. Matt Reeves is a director that proved to be exceedingly talented in portraying emotional depth in an unlikely trilogy: Planet of the Apes. I didn't think that those movies could possibly be very good, but Matt Reeves made me deeply care about those characters. It is, in fact, one of the most emotionally impactful movies I've ever seen. So, naturally, I assumed that Reeves would spread his wings and soar with "The Batman." I am pleased to say that this time I was correct. At the heart of this story has always been a traumatized young boy. Other Batman films really only scratch the surface of this aspect of the character compared to other mediums. Animated movies such as "Mask of the Phantasm" and comics like "Arkham Asylum" by Grant Morrison explore Bruce's damaged psyche far more than any of the live action movies, and I've always loved those Batman stories, because it explores one of the most interesting things about him. Interestingly enough, over The Batman's three hour runtime there is no drawn out backstory involving the death of his parents. The only reference we see is a brief, maybe one-second flashback, and it's there more to show us that Bruce has PTSD. This movie doesn't use the same old scene to tug on our heart strings, because surely Reeves understood that we've already seen it too many times for it to be fully impactful. Rather, he shows us a very honest depiction of the aftermath. He's in pain, and he's tired. Even more so, he's angry, and God help any mugger that happens to be in his path on a dark, Gotham night. Many talented actors have portrayed Batman over the years, and I don't think it's fair to say that Pattinson is "the best," but he's perfect in this movie, and for me, this is the best iteration of a live action Batman to date. So I can't really help but like him more in this movie than I have liked any other portrayal of Batman.

The cinematography is breathtaking. Lighting is done masterfully. Unsurprisingly, a lot of the movie takes place at night, and Reeves does an amazing job of creating these dark scenes that are almost uncomfortable in how much they obscure, to give you that feeling of suspense that anyone who sees batman emerge from a shadow would feel. At the same time, these scenes manage to beautifully light and focus everything that the viewer should be seeing. It's perfect for a noir film, and it's perfect for a Batman film. I believe that the timing of this movie was absolutely perfect. Like most of us in 2022, Bruce is experiencing dark times, and he's still learning how to navigate that darkness. Bruce's fear of losing himself to this darkness is palpable in Robert Pattinson's performance as well as in the writing of this movie. The anger and brokenness is visible on his face, as he has lost the motivation to hide it. With Batman, on the other hand, there's an almost calm composure that parallels the chaos we see in Bruce. Reeves is telling us that this is the release. Batman is Bruce Wayne's way out. In fact, this is probably the only thing getting him through it. On some level, Batman is something that Bruce Wayne has to do. I was very happy with this movie's realistic portrayal of trauma early on, but by the end I was genuinely moved by the fact that we watch Bruce become someone that is worthy of admiration. By the end of the movie, he isn't just an angry person that beats up criminals. He helps people. By being a beacon of hope for them, he is able to be hopeful about his own future. The Riddler is the other side of that coin: a cautionary tale about what happens when traumatized people just burrow deeper and deeper into their own heads and put up walls, their egos inflating as they demonize and blame the rest of the world.

In conclusion, The Batman is a story about a legend in the making. It takes place early on in this story, and Bruce Wayne is still a diamond in the rough. Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson masterfully portray "the rough." Admittedly, the Batman story has always appealed to me as a person with childhood trauma, but I think that after 2021, literally all of us can appreciate a story about a good person trying to do the right thing in the middle of a crappy situation. This isn't necessarily a groundbreaking Batman story, but it is a groundbreaking Batman movie. I predict that pretty much every fan of Batman comics is going to love this movie. People that are mostly fans of the movies might be a little divided on this one as it is drastically different from any live action portrayal we have ever seen. For me, it's an easy 10/10.

There are so many things I would like to talk about so for the short review, this movie is amazing if you like batman, with much action but also much mystery, suspense. great acting, Robert Pattison completely owned the character, and every time he was on screen we could just feel his presence, and that feeling of superiority that batman radiates upon people, and the film scoring is just beautiful and a must-see. Now I would like to address some things that other people have been saying and I would like to comment on the fact that this is NOT a marvel movie, other reviews have said things for example " this movie was too dark, depressing" or "I wanted to see with my kids but it was too violent" but that is who batman is, if you read a batman comic it won't be happy, funny jokes, but a dark, violent, grim and serious story with some heavy topics. Secondly, this movie had a different pace, mood, and theme as the other times we have seen this character on the screen, One thing about Batman is that he is not just the world's greatest fighter but also the world's greatest detective and that was a complaint that I had with the other movies because they completely ignored this aspect of him, action here and there but never how smart he really was and in this movie they completely flipped it, showing us his skills as the worlds greatest detective most of the movie, trying to solve this mystery of murders, trying to understand the killers objective and who he was, and Lastly, he is not a "Ben Affleck" batman who will burst into a room with 30 people and take all them out without breaking a sweat, Pattison's batman is in his 2 year as Batman, even though he has his flaws in terms of ability, he is still learning how to be batman, but also struggling in finding who he really is as bruce Wayne. he is not a christan bale's bruce where he uses a fake smile and playboy lifestyle to hide his identity as batman but this bruce is in a very dark place and struggling mentally on who he is and what he should become vs what he needs to. I loved this movie very much, I'm going to watch it for a 2nd time tomorrow and I think you should two. Expand

The people who didn’t like this either don’t know or understand the source material and we’re going into this thinking it was a spectacle mcu family friendly film full of action rather than build up characters and an immersive experience of the world of the Batman comics. Robbert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, Paul Dano, John Turturro, Collin Farrell, Andy Serkis, Peter Sarsgaard all prove that they are worthy of their triple A acting status with brilliant performances that just capture you.
Yes, The Batman is the best live-action Batman movie of all time.

Best batman movie, from acting, cinematography, story. Some may tell that pacing is slow but for people who likes murder mystery they will love it. The only disappoinment I would say is music, other than that everything is perfect

It's also interesting to look at the psychology present in Batman's mask and how it affects his personality as Bruce Wayne. When wearing the mask, Bruce "loses" emotions and becomes more instinctive, and when he takes it off, he "sees" himself dependent, bitter, as a person who is not able to overcome his trauma. He does what he does on the streets as he believes it's a unique way in his life in the sense of facing the past and preventing it from happening to other people. It's like Bruce just confronting his inner beast, in this case, the Batman persona. Also, it's important to see that Batman, in his second years on the streets, is still imperfect, that he's still in a process of identity construction. In that second year, he investigates a series of murders of Gotham's politicians and influentials (who were related to Batman). However, an unexpected moment, such as banners and the political case was exactly with the corruption of the city, becomes something more personal, which has psychological consequences and shakes Bruce's essence and mentality throughout the plot. It is also interesting to analyze how the film connects the Riddler's life with that of Batman: Trauma motivates one to fight crime, while the other to commit them. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Actually it should be a good movie. But I just don't feel this.
Starting with the fact that it is too long and has many lengths and that the dialogues are to fall asleep, it is not convincing over the entire length.
The cast is good except that Catwoman is a miscast.
The action is well staged but dulls because you always see the same thing.
Considering all the qualities of the Batman movies as a whole, this one is no more entertaining than the Joel Schumacher parts. Are ok, but far from the great films of a Nolan or Burton.

▪ Text: Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy are praised as one of the greatest superhero movies, as its prestige set an unsurmountable standard for later productions. After a decade, The Batman is agreeably the most successful resurrection of the icon.

Suppressive close-ups, contrasting lighting, and ceaseless soundtrack all display the palpable tension of Gotham city and its humid hellholes. Where the neon light couldn’t reach, even a silent frame of lurking shadow could instill fear into the audience.

Regarding characters, Andy Serkis’ veteran version of Alfred, Colin Farrell’s perfidious Penguin, and Jeffrey Wright’s faithful Gordon all provide new vibes that are unique from the previous movies. With a pair of nerdy glasses, Paul Dano performs a lethally menacing sociopath, child of solitude and envy, who’s distorted wish for a purge of corruption can only be expressed by bloodshed and grotesque riddles. Zoe Kravitz on the other hand, presents an audacious but righteous Catwoman with lineage that motivates her vengeance, as her relationship with Batman develops from enmity to mutual attraction.

Robert Pattinson nailed his character, through the detailed investigation and powerful punches, introducing an uncompromising, reckless, but dutiful vigilante. Even masked, every glimpse and stare of Pattinson fully demonstrates the Batman’s hesitation, fury, and vigilance. Bruce Wayne lacks affection, and Batman lacks recognition; Bruce grows by heartfully loving Selena and accepting the sin of his family, Batman grows by becoming a savior, a fearsome symbol, a stray of light that wades through murk and leads the people. Whether frantic mobs or hypocritical politicians, it is convincing that the city’s depravity can be arbitrated by our hero.

The only things I have to complain: firstly, can we not whisper through all our dialogues? It’s extremely tiring to completely understand the plot especially for a detective movie. Secondly, because of the singular narration, the pacing of the film is slightly slow. This can be resolved by combining conversations with ongoing events to increase tension and speed up storytelling (which is what Nolan did to earn 9.1 for Dark Knight on imdb).

Overall, Batman meets my expectation and impresses me with a different tone from the other DC movies. An absolute must-see.
▪ Summary: Resurrection of the Batman

It reminded me of a bad re make of the movie Seven. It just doesn't make very much sense, and Robert Patterson looks and acts like an emo Heroin junkie. There is a lot going on, but it doesn't really seem coherent. Similar to how the last season of Game of thrones jumped around to cover a lot of ground. I liked the idea of the how bruce wayne's family had done some shady stuff, and the riddler was trying to expose it, but patterson is just such a bad actor its to hard to sit through. Look at Patterson and jeffery wright trying to solve a mystery and compare that to brad pit and morgan freeman in seven. The imagery is way to similar. With all that money they couldn't come up with something original smh Expand

Totally missed the fundamental aspects of Batman's character. Batman/Bruce Wayne is a brilliant tactician, able to battle God level enemies based on his intelligence, planning and undefeatable resolve. He is not a depressed and emotionally weak child, yes he is internally emotionally compromised but this was outrageous. I appreciate the attempt to do something new but totally missed the target. Why is this woke social justice crap necessary in a Hollywood movie? Is it possible to just be entertained without being annoyed and subjected to the injustice de jour whining that is the modern day libtarded modus operandi. The DCU actually took a good turn with the Wonder Woman films, Shazam, even The Joker and the Snyder cut of Justice League. Who wrote this tripe? A junior high school kid? This film is long, the writing is pretentious bordering on parody, resulting in *actual* parody at times, and even though the cast is great and it is well shot, it just can't save it. I think comic book movies, just like actual comic books, are done. Modern Marvel movies are no better, and have actually been worse for some time. This movie is just straight up terrible, and if you make it through the olympic marathon run time, you are a greater man than I, Gunga Din. One star for production values. The writing is the worst I've ever seen, as a very longtime fan of such, in a super hero film. That is it. Please stop inflicting this cr*p on us. We have had enough. Expand
