This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. We are lucky to live in a world where the spider verse series was created, the ONLY downside is the amount of events that go down in the final 10 minutes to have a "to be continued" queue. We have just witnessed miles in an alternative universe becoming prowler, Spot has returned stronger than before into his original universe, and gwen has assembled a spider squad of old and new members from the 2 films, and on top of that, Miguel's (Spiderman 2099) squad is on the hunt for miles. The film is amazing but the ending just felt like a loose knot with no conclusion. Expand

Everything the first one in it's visuals, sound design, sound track, animation, writing and characters is cranked up in this sequel. The movie switches between Gwen Stacey and Miles Morales as they try to fix the Spider-Verses from collapsing. The one thing I will note is that Gwen shares the screen with Miles and has half of the movie dedicated to her. Wonderful idea but there is just one problem, the movie ends suddenly. It almost felt as if it were a single movie sliced into two, forcing fans to wait with it's 'Part 2' coming to theaters 2025. I couldn't help but feel the incompleteness of this movie as I watched, wanting more but never getting it. There is a way to build up a movie to it's sequel and there is a wrong way, which this movie decided to make. Other than that, I loved the movie and was definitely was two steps upwards in the right direction. I highly recommend this movie and is a must see. So get off your butt and go watch this movie today! Expand

And this is good, but if the first film was a self-contained story, then the second film turned out to be a little cut off. The animation is still amazing, and it is clear that the authors have advanced even further in technology, but nevertheless, in some places the production came out either too long or, on the contrary, too fast, because of which you do not have time to concentrate and feel empathy for the characters. It's still pretty early to tell though as this movie can't be enjoyed without a sequel that hasn't been released yet, so for now I'm giving it a 7 as I enjoyed this movie and may change my mind depending on how the sequel turns out. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A solid movie.

They went above and beyond in terms of animation, makes the old one almost look flat in comparison. Every universe is animated differently and it works very well.

The score is also very solid, on par with the animation, it's better than the first one which was very good to begin with.

There's a lot of fan-service but it's never too distracting.

Story is great, Miles' struggle and feeling of being left out, betrayed and forgotten is very well constructed. The man gave up his art path to pursue multi-dimensional travel, just to find out that his crush, who had the means to get to him the whole time, was too busy seeing another dude to even bother. It sets up a very nice story that I hope will end well.

The movie is also funny when it wants to and serious when it has to, it's very well balanced.

Beside that, the movie has some issues. First of all: it's very long, maybe too long. I don't see myself rewatching it as much as I rewatched the first one. Some scenes really drag out more than necessary. Individual scenes are fine but when they are put all together I just start to feel tired.

This is especially evident when you consider that this movie cannot stand on its own legs, it needs a part 2. It really feels like "Episode 1 of 2". It's not even like Infinity War: this movie has absolutely no payoff, it just builds up and keeps building up to something we won't get to see until the next one is out. So as much as I liked this one, this and its sequels should be considered a single movie came out in two pieces. And my liking for this movie will be affected by the next one.

My second issue with this movie is the fact that the moral dilemma raised by Miguel is never challenged by anyone else. Seeing the spectacular Spiderman is cool, but I think he's out of character, and this is also true with many other Spiderman iterations. They all act like minions and honestly it's kinda stupid that none of them were able to subdue Miles. I get why they had to be overshadowed, but it also cheapens them a lot. I would have rather seen either a big clash between factions or a smaller group of Spiders actually chasing Miles.

This movie trades in a lot of the originals substance to create a young man's coming of age story, which means it's full of drama. The style and story telling (along with some good laughs) carry it through to create an excellent experience. The real issue with this movie other than being extra sappy, is honestly how uncontained the story seems. It's a long movie that doesn't really end, this is either due to the fact that they knew there was always going to be another movie or because they were trying to keep the run time down. This causes the movie to need another film to finish the tale, which the first one never needed. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The highly-anticipated animated movie Spider-Man! Ah!

The plot does follow the one of the first opus and isn't afraid to introduce new characters (or some forgotten ones). I found that the movie takes a bit too much time to launch and becoming interesting though. It wasn't necessary to explain who Spider-Man and what his motto is. We are quickly introduced to Spider-Man's nemesis: The Spot, and his total lack of style and charisma. Although his character benefits from a certain evolution throughout the film, it is in the middle of the plot that he becomes truly dangerous (and oddly enough, not after that). The first fight with him is a huge mess and seems destined to amaze and make the children laugh. Nothing more than that. A main flaw to me is Miles Morales' powers that are so overwhelming without any explanation. In addition to that, the classic teenage crisis wasn't mandatory to me since it gives the movie a taste of lack of creativity. Has it nothing else to tell? Well obviously yes. And that leads me to another potential flaw: the movie opens way too much doors and intrigues. How are they going to close them all well? I guess we'll see...

The CGI is incredible all along and never fails to offer us magic scenes. Some action ones however remains mind-numbing and in-your-face to me. Colours and wonderful, as well as the lighting and charcters' design. Special thanks for the punk Spider-Man on that point. The many easter-eggs are fun to look at and don't pollute thepace of the feature. The very end especially is a enormous flaw, but I'll let the future prove me wrong if they manage to end it carefully.

The soundtrack, produced by the rising star Metro Boomin is interesting but sadly fails to equal the one of the previous feature 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' (with its iconic 'Sunflower' from Post Malone and hip-hop/latino R&B fusion). Fortunately it doesn't prevent it to compliment the movie with strong sequences paced by 'Am I Dreaming', 'All The Way Live' or 'Self Love'. Thanks Metro Boomin for that!

It was indeed a fantastic cinematic experience bringing the right amount of humour, the beautiful art style and visuals that we loved in the first one, an incredible soundtrack which suits every frame of the movie & great and well-choreographed action sequences.

The entire cast did a phenomenal job, bringing us a sequel which was just as good, if not better, than the first one. While at the same time, setting up the stage for what’s more to come!

The best part of the whole movie was the art style, which was unique and a breath of fresh air. Kudos to the whole animation team, as it really felt like they gave their all for each and every scene.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Great film. The multiverse both makes sense and functions in this universe, every character is likeable and well developed, Spot is such a great character and especially how he starts as a nobody and becomes "The Villain" The only con is the ending, I understand that it would be too long but we waited half a decade for this film... How long until the next? I will say the art stye has charm and is unique which is something nice to see these days... Overall an excellent film that achieves everything it sets out to accomplish only having a cliffhangar ending being a con. Good work Sony Expand

How can it surpass the already excellent original in every conceivable way? How can it juggle dozens of well-written characters, numerous story-lines, various visual styles, genuinely funny jokes and dramatic moments that actually work? How can it tell a cohesive complete story, develop on the first movie's plot lines, and set up the third one so thrillingly, while making 2 and a half hours pass by like mere minutes?

Well, apparently, it just can, and I'm grateful to the team behind it for pulling this off. Can't wait to see Beyond the Spider-Verse.

Some of the coolest part is to see the unique designs for each of them, ranging from a London punk to a motorcycle chick. But that's only the beginning of the dazzling, sometimes dizzying visuals. Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse is without a doubt one of if not the best Spider-Man films I've ever seen in recent memory and dare I say surpass both it's predecessor and No Way Home. The first thing that immediately springs to mind asSpider-Man: Across the Spider Verse is without a doubt one of if not the best Spider-Man films I've ever seen in recent memory and dare I say surpass both it's predecessor and No Way Home. The first thing that immediately springs to mind as to what makes this movie a masterpiece is that it took what made the first movie work and dialed it all up to 11 and never letted go of that in even the slightest and it properly implemented fan service into the story properly better than No Way Home ever did. The first thing on what I mean about that is how the main things I loved about the first movie were the characters, complex story moments, color palettes, soundtrack, and Easter eggs. Firstly, the characters old and new are phenomenal with their complex story arcs and moments in the spotlight and it leaves you hanging on who to root for in the end when you think about both sides of the story, there's so many more art styles and color palettes and they are utilized so well that it becomes a genuine treat to look at, I didn't ever think they could ever improve on the soundtrack from the first movie but those people somehow went ahead and did that with so many new tracks fitting appropriately into the action and silent moments, the fan service is properly utilized here by making it connect to the story here and it feels understandable unlike No Way Home, finally of course, the Easter Eggs here are simply phenomenal and have so many more moments to showcase themselves and it's always satisfying to spot them when rewatching the film. Overall, this movie is what happens when you have people who love your source material enough to commit to it 100% and I cannot both recommend this film enough and get ready for the last film. Expand

5. It's about 50/50 Gwen v Miles. Maybe even more Gwen.

Agree to desagree with the ending, most people don't get the switch in the point of view from Miles to Gwen. Just as the lights dimmed, I was told this was a two-part film and I groaned. Why drag it out? But then the film starts and even at over 2 hours, I was itching for more.

Gwen opens the film and its action-packed and brings up straight back into the ground-breaking animation style from the first film, and after a confrontation with her cop dad, we learn how she joins the other across the Spider-Verse gang.

We get an intimate glimpse of the Morales family dynamic and the strains Mile’s superhero’ing causes. Their interactions are realistic and awkward, the over the top metered with genuine moments.

The film explains the multiverse in probably the most coherent way in recent history, with the idea of disruption of “canon events” lead to the destruction of the universe in which that disruption occurred. Lots going on! There are a couple of twists that are carefully set up throughout the film so when they’re revealed, it pays off. The cinema I was in literally gasped in unison at them.

The main villain comes from humble beginnings to ultimate top-tier bad guy, and we understand why this happens. It’s quite uncomfortable to see how, due to no fault of his own, the villain is made fun of, not taken seriously and dehumanised until he is driven to prove his worth in the most maniacal way possible.

I understand this is a movie with multiple Spider-People, but at times the film feels bloated and repetitive, and some bits could have definitely been removed. The main antagonist Spider-Man – leader of the group – is well-crafted, imposing and eventually menacing, and having our Peter Parker make an appearance is welcomed. Across the Spider-Verse is quite as impactful as the first film, but I don’t think that was a realistic expectation to have. The visual style is out of control and coherent at the same time but you may find yourself having to close your eyes for a moment to reset your optic nerves.

The plot twist cliff-hanger? Dang.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Technically good, conceptually stale. This movie does humor better than most Marvel films, the action is more similar to the comics and the animation is top notch. It is a little too much flash, visually. It distracts from the plot. The emotional tone fails. The parents are a bore and I'm not even sure there's chemistry between Miles and Gwen now? Its still weighted with agenda driven nonsense as well. It passed the time. Expand

Unfortunately if you liked Spider pig or the other spidermans from the last movie, you won’t be getting them here despite the movie introducing a plethora of characters who don’t live up to the last movie’s spiderman noire/pigs

The movie still maintains that signature style from the first movie although sometimes the colors and flashing lights are a bit chaotic and the movie too heavily focuses on needless action/movement scenes. The tone of the styles also varies widely, some making my eyes hurt. Someone who has epilepsy should 100% not watch this movie. At times I felt like a horde of unicorns were vomiting in my face. Some action scenes go on for way too long with awkward comedic dialogue in between like this first time where they chase the villain who can make holes. It just dragged on and on and just had so many one line quips from this hole guy that just fell flat. I kept waiting for some sort of conclusion or wrap-up but nope, this like everything else in this movie is not concluded. Don’t get me wrong, the action scenes are great but it comes at the expense of the characters. Characters like ‘afro lady’ spiderman and punk spiderman did not connect like spiderpig, noire, etc. Spiderpunk would make cringy lines for modern 2023 audiences along the lines of ‘capitalism bad!’ And afro lady seemed to have only existed so the movie could fill their diversity quota since she had 0 personality and didnt act, dress, or look like anything attempting to be a ‘spider something’. They werent terrible but compared to the contrasting personalities of spider pig and spider noire, these characters just felt uninspired.

The end action scene of the film, which can hardly be considered a ‘climax’ unfortunately doesnt make too much sense as it says that it is canon that miles father must die, however the film completely ignores that spiderman’s uncle already died. Spiderman canonically must have some loved one die and they establish this in the first movie too, it does not need to be a captain, so it was awkward and contradicted itself when they tried to shoehorn in that ‘oh yeah miles, your dad will die because he is a captain even though your uncle already died’. What was the point of showing spider gwen and every other spiderman’s dead loved one if you are going to introduce a new concept that two loved ones must die? Why didnt spider gwen care if her captain dad died? Why is it ok that gwen just spontaneously leave her timeline and that has no timeline consequences? Why are all of mile’s spider friends suddenly uncaring a-holes who would try to stop their friend from saving his own dad? I like that peter parker has a baby now but he’s really swinging his toddler around as he does extremely dangerous stuff when this movie establishes over and over the theme of parents protecting their kids. Another awkward addition to this movie for a few attempts to make the audience go ‘awww haha the baby does spiderman stuff too’

Worst of all, the movie opens up three huge plot points and doesnt care to conclude anything! Ok ok we get another movie but at least attempt to finish something. The cliffhanger ending felt like it belonged in a TV show, not a movie that I’m watching in theaters. The movie doesnt even have anything remotely close to a climax. It just ends. When ‘to be continued’ flashed on the screen, i could hear ‘what!?’ And ‘really…’ from people in the theaters. There are good and bad ways to do cliffhangers. The empire strikes back had a cliffhanger but it still had a climax, and still concluded itself in someway to finish this chapter of star wars. Spiderman did not do this and it was just unsatisfactory. They tease a ‘final battle’ w spider pig, noire, etc and it was such a cop out and made me wonder why all of them only decide to show us at the very end. Was every character from the first movie really so indifferent to mile’s problem after they risked their lives to help him in the first movie? If yes, why deteriorate these established characters? Because the writers wrote themselves in a hole and needed to explain why everyone wouldnt just help spiderman, or why any spiderman, many who are pure hearted do-gooders, wouldnt help another spiderman save his dad.

I am saying a lot of critical stuff here but only because i love the first movie so much. A special hats off to the excellent soundtrack although sometimes i felt like the movie was made to fit the sound track and not the other way around

I was thrilled at it getting a sequel but was slightly worried it won't live up to the first one. Is Across the Spider-Verse a worthy sequel or one universe that should've been closed?

Firstly, let's get the obvious out of the way. The animation is SPECTACULAR! The animation and art style changing depending on what universe the characters are in or even what universe the characters are from was a great creative choice. The way the characters move, the vibrancy and the colours of the world are so gorgeous and beautifully crafted. The action scenes are thrilling and exciting while also being well-choreographed. The soundtrack is still phenomenal here as well, with a special mention of Spider-Gwen's theme. In terms of story, Spider-Gwen has a bigger focus this time. We get more exploration of her backstory and her struggles, such as loneliness and guilt. Her character arc is one of the great highlights of this film. Miles Morales is still of course the main focus as well and has his struggles too. He is starting to experience the "Spider-Man" problem of balancing his own life with the responsibility of Spider-man. The sequel continues his arc of trying to become his own hero and it is still very compelling. The chemistry between both Miles and Gwen is strong with their relationship being one of the things I enjoyed. Spider-Man 2099 returns from the post-credit of the previous film to a major role in this entry. I like that he is the one Spider-Man who doesn't joke like the others as it furthers the contrast between him and Miles. The way he is animated feels more inhuman as well which makes him significantly frightening. He isn't the main villain though, that comes to a character called The Spot. He is a very interesting villain as he comes off as very goofy and silly. His origin is also a bit ridiculous. Despite all that, the directors managed to make him come off as very threatening with how they used his abilities. It is impressive that made a lame-looking character be that menacing. The returning voice cast such as Shameik Moore as Miles, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen, Brian Tyree Henry as Jeff, Luna Lauren Vélez as Rio Morales, and Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker is still great here. Oscar Isaac also returns as Spider-Man 2099 and he is awesome. In terms of the new voice cast, Jason Schwartzman is terrific as The Spot with how he portrays both the silly and serious side of the antagonist. Karan Soni is funny as Spider-Man India and Daniel Kaluuya is quite cool as Spider-Punk. Despite the multiverse theme, the information dumps never become too much. They are written in an understandable way that the audience can still digest. The humour is still genuinely funny and there wasn't a joke that didn't land

In terms of issues, I do find the second act a little bit too long. The second act is mostly about the family drama of Miles Morales and it does go on for quite a while. It doesn't help that the importance of this drama doesn't come into play in this film but most likely the next one, so it doesn't even have a proper payoff. Additionally, the sound mixing can be a bit off. It is sometimes a little difficult to hear dialogue during scenes with loud music or action. This is especially noticeable in the beginning with the drums feeling way more loud than the dialogue. This is also very clearly a part 1 film. It ends at a point where it feels like it is about to enter the final act but it just ends before it does. If the aim was to make me desperate for the next movie then it succeeded!

Overall, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a very worthy sequel that builds upon everything that made the first great. The multiverse is such an overdone thing but this film still somehow makes it feel fresh! If the final movie in this trilogy is as good in quality as both this and the first movie, we might have one of the best trilogies in cinema history! The 3rd film can't come soon enough because I am dying to watch it!

It is a perfect sequel for the "Into the Spider-verse",leaving fans on one of the biggest clifhangers from MCU so far. The movie has good funny parts and even better serious parts with many eastereggs across every scene.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Near perfect animated action movie that kept entertaining throughout its long running time. The animation is absolutely top notch, so well done. The story stays light-footed because of the clever and witty dialogue and characters. SpecialNear perfect animated action movie that kept entertaining throughout its long running time. A brilliant job taking him from a running joke to a genuinely scary nemesis. Rightfully being hailed as a high water mark in animation. Can't wait for part two. Expand

"Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" takes animation, story-telling, and cinema to a new level. It will probably win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and get nominated for Best Picture.

The film is very good and brings all the qualities of the first, almost all, in fact what is missing is the impact of the first that would be impossible to replicate.

I hope the next instalment doesn’t take this long. Expand
