Sonic the Hedgehog is an ordinary good movie. But he has certain problems. Overall the film was mediocre it's animation & character design was impressive but the plot seemed badly written. Along the film there were scenes that didn't make sense, some even coming out of nowhere and shouldn't belong in the film. One of the most confusing of these scenes was the first, Who is Sonic's carer / mother and where did she come from? Why isn't she a hedgehog instead of an owl? Etc.
But I am grateful for some changes that had been made for the film otherwise it would've clearly gotten terrible ratings and scared children… Expand

I never cared about Sonic, never even played any of its games, and yes I knew about it.
But the movie and characters were so good I wanna watch it again, and I’m actually looking forward to the sequels!

What I liked about it was the relationship with James Marsden’s cop counterpart. They had chemistry. And I actually liked Sonic, also he had a very satisfying arc. A lonely and traumatized being that gets a loving family at the end. Archetypal, sure, but well told.
Even compared to other kids movies this is definitely one of the better ones.
Also I think the need of connection theme of the movie reached a personal level to me and many others. Even surrounded by people, we sometimes feel lonely. A deeper connection is needed. Best friends.
Forget "you HAVE to see this movie if you liked XYZ", it's a good movie. See it. Have a good time! It's worth it.… Expand

Great movie. Slow start but gathers pace. Jim Carrie is good and gives Dr Robotnik a bit more dimension. Kid loved it. As someone who grew up with sonic games I enjoyed the nostalgia of it. This movie has had a lot of flack over the last design of Sonic, but the entire movie, especially with Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, makes everything so much better. Jim Carrey as Robotnik/Eggman was absolutely hilarious, James Marsden's acting as Tom was top notch, this movie has an amazing blend of emotional moments with absolute epicness that is unmatched. My only gripe is that Sonic's powered up form could've been better explained with more than just "unlimited power", plus some moments in the movie drag jokes just a little too long. But that's literally a SECOND too long. Not any further. And the powered up form is still really awesome to watch, and the events that triggered it are absolutely mind-blowing. This movie carries emotional weight and has plenty of jokes that land, the packing is perfect, and the entire movie is jawdroppingly beautiful. Also, to everyone planning on watching it in theaters, don't leave right when the credits start. There's a special midcredits scene that you're going to love … Expand

For a movie that got the butt-end of the jokes while it was in production, I must say. They did a good job fixing up our blue hero's face. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have been a huge fan of Sonic ever since I was 5. Everyone in my class used to say their favourite superhero to be Spider-Man, Batman, Superman etc, but when I'd say I like Sonic, everyone made fun of me. Not just because Sonic is supposed to be "childish" as they called it (because ignorance is bliss; they'd even think Conker's Bad Fur Day is childish because it has animals as main characters). And I swore that one day when Sonic gets a movie and all normies start looking up to him then I will mock them.

When the first trailer of this movie was shown I almost had a mini heart attack. This was not just an atrocious design, it was a nightmare! Thanks to the petitions and Paramount listening to the fans, they finally redesigned Sonic. And then when I finally watched the movie, it felt so satisfying. I had never watched superhero cartoons or read the comics, so I suppose this is the same joy Marvel fans get when they see MCU movies. Today was my turn to take the joy.

I really like how they chose to focus more on character development than the story, which is absolutely necessary because they are setting it up for a franchise. They should not rush anything. In the first movie Sonic and Donut Lord have established their friendship and in the post credit we see Tails come to Green Hill looking for Sonic. Also Eggman gets trapped on Mushroom planet in the end which is where Sonic 3 & Knuckles takes place, so it's clear that Knuckles will also appear in the post credit scene of the second movie.

Sonic fans are known to be toxic. And I was also one of them as a kid. So for us fans, this movie is like a dream come true. People here are criticising how slow and cliché the plot was, and even I really hope they come up with something original and more fun in the sequel.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Hi, I am from Iran. I was studying Iranian critics who had a negative opinion of Sonic. I saw that most of them are over 30 years old. They objected to three things in this film and said that it would be better if they were not: Sonic should have been a killing character - they changed Sonic's story and my vision changed to Sonic's character - aimless. It was unique in the live genre and it is not like movies like Ted, The Lion King, etc. Sonic's film has given a beautiful story to Sonic's character. So I have to say that I expect Sonic 2 to be unique like Sonic 1. They are sorely mistaken.… Expand

I think this movie is a must for every Sonic fan out there.

Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik/Eggman is just comedy gold, you can't take the characters he plays seriously afterwards, but I've never been able to do that with Dr. Robotnik/Eggman.
He also fits in very well with this mad scientist Robotnik/Eggman with his crazy nature.
Sonic's behavior is like that of a teenager who often cracks jokes, many of which I remember but others were also strange.
Whether you like the story that Sonic had to move from another universe to planet Earth because the echidnas hunted him down is up to you.
Video game adaptations are mostly bad than good, but this film convinced me otherwise that video game adaptations can be better than expected.… Expand

I see this when I have not played a Sonic Game, and it likes me, later I play Sonic Mania and Sonic Generations and next I will play Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 and Sonic Forces, the movie is good 8.5/10

Sonic the Hedgehog is a real fun and fresh video game movie that is one of the best out there. While that isn't saying much since most of them are pretty bad, Sonic the Hedgehog is a really entertaining time that kids and adults alike will enjoy.

I loved it! It's a bit cringe, but it's a family film after all. If you're a sonic fan I'll recommend this 10/10, you can catch some pretty reference too

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Probaby not the greatest movie but a solid one. Especially with scenes like, the time freeze scenes. The jokes were mostly acceptable. Love Jim Carey being eggman: a really amazing choice IMO. I would give this movie a 8, but the fact that Detective Pikachu exists makes this movie lower my expectations. I know that sounds dumb...… Expand

This movie is pretty good! Sonic's voice sounds just like the original modern Sonic voice. The thing I don't like is Eggman's look. While it was a good movie I think the user score is a bit too high. Some of the jokes were funny but there was a good bit of Gen Alpha humor, Sonic honestly felt like anyone that's in high school so he did feel kinda cringe but he wasn't aWhile it was a good movie I think the user score is a bit too high. I mmean it's not a bad movie but if you want a Sonic Movie, just go watch the second one cus it's way better.… Expand
